The smell of blood around house Ciaculli is finally starting to fade.

JILL, for one, is glad of it. She doesn't think she'll be able to sleep at all for the next month or so - and even then, she doubts she'll ever be able to forget what she's seen in the past few days. Blood and death, she'd been prepared for - you don't get far in the business without a bit of both beneath your belt - but all this watching and wondering and waiting - and these murders, all these in-family flayings and scaldings and the thing with the rats, whatever that was, they hadn't exactly been as neat and clean as a few bullets to the spine...

Sick minds. Sick, sick minds.

But, Jill thinks, setting her mouth into a grim line and following the other three survivors into the kitchen, there's one at least that she won't regret. She remembers Yukeh screaming as the cabinet had bounced down the stairs, remembers hearing the crunch of bones and the sound of wet plops as Yukeh's body had hit the sides and blood had started to splatter out of the growing cracks in the wood (probably aided by the various knives, stakes, and nails the four of them had driven into the piece of furniture before shutting her in -)

A fitting death for a traitor.

But she can't help but relax a little, finally letting go of the tense set of her shoulders for the first time in days. Finally, all the people she couldn't trust are gone from the island and it's just her, Tess, Case, and Aisu left -- and she knows she's in good hands. The cleanup after Yukeh had taken half an hour or so, but the afternoon sun is still shining, the skies are still blue, and when she gets into the kitchen, the other three are already discussing their plans to leave the island before the sun goes down.

There's a sense of victory in the air, and Jill can't help but smile.

---

The smell of blood around house Ciaculli is finally starting to fade.

TESS can't say she really misses it. She returns Jill's smile with a big grin of her own, already having insisted to the rest (multiple times, in case they'd missed it) that she'd known it was Yukeh all along, her and that Pao creep. It was so obvious, didn't they see? And Yukeh trying to throw suspicion off herself by killing off Lavie at the end, but Tess had seen through that double bluff so fast she hadn't even blinked, oh, she's just that good -

Or, well, there had been that one night where she'd totally thought it was Case, but man, it had turned out he'd saved her life, good thing she hadn't shot him in the face or something, huh?

But she hadn't, no harm done, and that was the point anyway, and Tess's grin just gets wider as she turns away from Case and Aisu still deciding on details about booking rides back to shore and stretches, glad to let them handle things and even gladder to be free of the paranoia. Not sleeping for days has left dark marks beneath her eyes, and on top of not sleeping, after finding Lavie in the oven, she hadn't even been able to -

"Hey!" Tess says, and bounds over with renewed interest to the refrigerator, tugging it open and peering inside. It's still almost entirely full, enough food for fourteen people for a week - it looks like she hasn't been the only one unable to eat and the deaths have been keeping the larders packed. "Dude! 'm hungry, we should totally have a victory party or something!"

"Sure, that's a good idea," Case says. "I'll cook."

"I'll go call the ferry boat guy," Aisu adds. "And grab a bottle of champagne from the cellar."

"Okay, I'll get plates and napkins and clear off the dining room then!" Jill chimes in, and then they all glance back expectantly at Tess, who shrugs and takes a seat on the counter behind her.

"I'll sit in here and make sure Case doesn't poison the food," she says around the apple already in her mouth.

The four of them look at each other for one tense moment, and then the irony of the situation hits and they all start to laugh.

---

The smell of blood around house Ciaculli is finally starting to fade.

Not from the living room, AISU notes, taking a wide detour around the puddle of Yukeh still seeping into the carpet at the bottom of the stairs, but that didn't matter - they were all going to be out of here soon. Kind of a shame that Miru hadn't made it - she'd been the only one Aisu had really known before she'd arrived on this deathtrap - but just the fact that she's still alive and breathing, well, Aisu knows she should be counting her blessings.

She grabs the phone in the living room and dials for the ferryman on shore, telling him to be there at oh, around eight or nine and informs him that no, they were only going to need one boat this time, not four. Some accidents have happened and their numbers have lessened, I hope you understand - and her tone warns him not to ask any questions. That done, she heads downstairs and picks out a likely looking bottle with a long incomprehensible name in French and returns to the kitchen with it slung over her shoulder, only to find the room empty save for Case.

Aisu stops in her tracks, looking around warily - it looks like the instincts of a crisis don't fade away as fast as she'd thought. "Where are the other two?" she demands, trying to keep the edge out of her voice.

"I killed them," Case calls cheerfully over his shoulder, doing something at the stove that involves lots of pans and boiling and sizzling noises. "And then I kicked Tess out of here 'cause she kept trying to eat the stuff before it was done. Mind grabbing some candles and glasses and stuff and helping Jill?"

It takes a moment for all this to sink in - and some distant crashing noises from the dining room to filter through to the kitchen as proof - and then Aisu's shaking her head, deciding she's never going to get used to the casual way Case jokes about everything. Give her Jill's honest fright or Tess's honest anger any day instead. But then, she supposes that all four of them have something to offer.

After all, they did get through this, didn't they?

"One day that sense of humor is going to get you killed." Aisu snorts - but half-grins anyway - then grabs four champagne glasses and a few candlesticks from the far cabinet and heads past Case into the hall to the dining room. "Or get me killed."

"Hey!" Case breaks into a grin of his own. "I'm on your side, remember?"

---

The smell of blood around house Ciaculli is finally starting to fade.

CASE wouldn't know about it - it's been years since his nose worked at all - but it's been replaced by the smell of food, plates and plates and plates of it - and the sounds of screams and gunshots have been replaced by the clink of utensils against dishes, at least for the past hour or so. That is, for the past hour or so once he'd taken a bite out of everything first to prove it was safe. But anyway, now the four of them are lounging around the table with full, contented looks on their faces, just waiting for the tell-tale sound of the ferry boat arriving at the dock, when -

"Oh," Case says suddenly. "We forgot about the champagne."

"Oh yeah, I left it in the bucket over there," Aisu says, and then Case is going over, pulling the bottle out of the ice and popping the cork. He fills the four glasses then replaces the bottle to cool, taking two drinks in each hand and presents them to the table - Jill and Tess to his right, Aisu to his left.

"Don't we need something to toast to?" Jill asks.

"How about us?" Case asks, raising his glass.

"Sure, sounds good to me," Tess says. "To us!"

Case watches her clink her glass with the rest - she downs the cup and sits back down with a contented sigh - then has an hand on Aisu's arm, pulling the glass away from her mouth. And then he watches the realization dawn on their faces - sudden terror on Jill's, slow disbelief on Tess's, and questioning surprise on Aisu's - when the three of them notice that only the glasses that belong to Tess and Jill are empty.

Oh, he's been waiting for this moment. Ever since the second day.

"You didn't," Aisu starts, glancing over at him and then at Jill's suddenly pale face, then tosses her champagne glass aside, starting to laugh. "You did, you bastard. You spent an half an hour cooking in the kitchen and then you sedated them with the drinks?"

"Hey," Case says with a shrug, "I was hungry. And you wanted classy. You can't go wrong with champagne glasses."

"What -" Jill manages to squeak before her knees go numb and she sits down hard in her chair. Her eyes are starting to glaze over, trying to focus on Case and failing, and the drink slides from her hand, crashing to the floor.

He ignores her question - and the mumbled, blurred what-might-be-curses coming from Tess - turning to Aisu instead and continuing to chat cheerfully while the two across the table stare, unable to do much more. "So what now? They won't be going anywhere for a while, and we've got about fifteen minutes before the ferry gets here. We could blow the place if you like."

"Blow the place?" Aisu raises an eyebrow. "With what explosives?"

"Remember when Tess was threatening to explode the whole place with everyone in it?"

Aisu nods. "What about it?"

Case is starting to grin again.

"Did you know she brought enough bombs to actually do it?"

---

The smell of blood around house Ciaculli is finally starting to fade.

Though frankly, it doesn't make a difference from here, out at the dock. About all that you can tell is that there's a house at the top of the hill and that there are two people making their way down from there, grins on their faces and looking like it's the best damn day of their lives.

"Hey," ANG waves. "Just the both of you, then? And it's only been six days, too."

"Just the both of us," Case nods. "Lovely island, by the way."

"Glad you think so. I'm kind of proud of it, and the house too - though I hope you didn't spill anything on the carpet, those stains take forever to get out."

From where she's boarding the boat, Aisu glances at the other two. "I don't think you're going to have that problem this time," she says with a laugh.

"I'll hold you to that."

Gesturing to the boat, Ang gets on board. Case follows shortly, and then it's on with the engine and it's home, sweet home for the three of them. Aisu asks about events back on the mainland and is obliged with a tale of betrayal, people shooting each other in the back and general fun and games, nothing that wasn't really unexpected, nothing she's not experienced first hand before. She nods when expected, makes the right noises at appropriate moments and watches until they're far enough away from the island before giving a thumbs up to Case.

That is why, two minutes into their journey, the house explodes.

"...Won't have any problems getting the stains out of the carpet, is that so," Ang says.

Case grins. "Thought we'd give you a hand with that, you know. There's probably not much stain left. Or carpet, but you don't mind, do you?"

In the distance, the dust from what was once a nice, well sized house is clearing to reveal - well, not much at all, really.

"You could have asked first, really."

"Didn't want to trouble you with that, either," Case says, "but look on the bright side, you'll probably never have to worry about carpets or curtains again!"

"Got that right," Ang mutters.

The boat continues to speed off, further away from one island, now houseless and still recovering from the aftereffects of the blast. It'll be quite a while before anyone else will be camping overnight there, that's one thing you can say for sure.

Leaning back against the bow, Aisu finally relaxes, smiling contentedly.

"You know," she says, "I can't wait to go back already."

M A F I A G A M E :: Take Two, Day Five

Day five, and almost everyone wakes up in their own beds.

Tess is the first up because she's an early riser, nothing new, and it's still pretty damn amazing that she's out here. If she had her way then she'd just blow the place up and wait for the boat to come by and pick her up, get her out of here, because as far as she's concerned five days of putting up with this kind of tension is five days too many.

Aisu's the first person she meets outside, still somewhat groggy and a little tired. Neither of them bother to speak, because really- there's nothing much to say. 'Gee, I wonder if anyone else just died last night' isn't exactly a great topic to touch on while going to the bathroom, anyway.

It's halfway through that when they hear a scream.

It's Jill.

Which is acutally a good sign for her, since you have to be alive to even scream. Though Aisu and Tess have started heading over and bump into Yukeh on the way. She's just got up, just got out of bed and this isn't really what she wanted to wake up to but, hey, what the hell-

There's a bit more screaming, for good measure, before they finally make it to the kitchen. Case is already there, giving Jill a drink and waving a little as the rest of them come by.

"Guess what's for breakfast," he says.

Jill drops the glass and stares at him. "That isn't funny," she says, "That's-"

"Lavie, yes," he shrugs, "but why waste something already been cooked?"

Now might be a really good time to turn your attention to the large oven, where there's a body that's pretty much charred through and burnt inside. The smell isn't so much bad as just wrong, either way, Aisu can't help a small giggle. "Is that all of her?" she asks, "I just- oh god it's-"

Tess nudges her quiet, before crouching down to look at the body. "Looks like it, I guess, except... no skin. No face, hair, whatever."

Behind her, Yukeh brings one hand to her mouth, looking like she's about to throw up. She bites her lip a little, before finally heading out of the kitchen. Just standing there with the body, like it's nothing at all, that's just not something she can do.

Which is why she's the first to find the rest of the it.

Lavie's room, the one closest to the main hall- it's there that Yukeh headed over to. So she's the first to see the sun peeking through the curtains, dust floating and settling gently on the empty bed and the open cupboard door, inside of which hangs Lavie's shirts, Lavie's pants, and Lavie's skin.

There's even a neat little pool of blood just underneath, for good measure.

Her eyes widen- it looks terrible and she backs out just as the others come by, probably with the same idea as hers.

"Inside," she says, it's just about all she can manage, slumping against the wall. "just- hanging there-"

Five left alive, now, and she's one of them, that's true.

But for how much longer?

"I don't think I expected this," Pao says, good naturedly. "Then again I can't say I didn't see it coming entirely."

She's leaning back in her chair, feet on the table. Anyone would think it's just another ordinary day and it is, really, as far as ordinary passes around this place. "You know the thing is, there's really not much of a reason to kill me, but then again, I guess you could have said that about the rest of them." She shrugs, before looking around at the rest.

Yukeh's looking away, somewhere between bored and tired, while next to her Aisu seems to be paying more attention to the table than to anyone else. No matter how routine this has become, it's still not a subject that anyone really likes to talk about.

"Not much of a reason for you to die, maybe, but not much not to either," Lavie says. She doesn't have to add that the same applies to all of them, they all know that.

"I know, I know," Pao sighs. "Well, now I've got to wonder what to do. Throw myself off the roof? I'd probably get a broken leg if I did, and then someone else would have to finish me off, that'd be terribly messy."

"Or we could find one of the spiders from last night, how about that?" Tess suggests, rubbing her arm somewhat conciously- it still hasn't healed yet, and won't be for quite a bit. "Stuff it down your throat, then you'd choke and get poisoned to death at the same time."

Pao looks over at her. "Oh, that's creative. Though I don't think those have ever really been my taste, no."

"Lead?" Jill asks.

Everyone looks at her for a moment, before she shakes her head slightly. "I mean, is lead more to your taste?"

There's another awkward moment, before Pao finally laughs. "Well, not my favourite thing, I'd say," she says. "Certainly not even in my top ten, you know. But I suppose there's worse things out there."

"I suppose you'd know what they are, too," Case smiles back. "So, will you be staging a shootout? Asking for a chase? Jumping into the ocean and drowning yourself? I ask this only because it's more convenient for us all, that way."

Leaning forward, Pao thinks for a moment. "More convenient? Well, then, I suppose to spare you all the trouble, I might just take the quicket route-"

And there she is, gun in hand and pointed right at her temple. It's an old one, a good solid revolver which'll blast your brains out anyday. Messy, maybe, but quick, just like she said.

"-though, you know what? I think I'm going to be seeing some of you join me pretty soon, if you know what I mean."

"I hope not," Aisu says, first thing she's said in ages, glancing up quickly.

"Well, hope's a nice thing to have," Pao replies, and pulls the trigger.

Less than half of the original number left, now. And yes, you'll certainly be hoping for the best.

It's hard to believe that it's only been four days since you've come out on the island.

Take a short trip away from the mainland, they said. Have a relaxing vacation, they said. Get to know your family members better, they said.

Well, you're all certainly getting the last one right down.

Between the fevered confessions and dark secrets, there's plenty of time for people to make friends- or at the very least, temporary alliances. I'll help you out if you help me, let's just keep each other alive and hopefully we'll last long enough until this whole week's over. That's the idea, anyway, so with luck and a bit of fast talking it won't be your body that everyone wakes up to the next morning. The longer you can keep yourself alive, the more chances you have to get things straight...

"Did anyone ever tell her not to wander around at night?" Lavie asks, looking at the body at her feet. "I'd never have expected her, of all people-"

"Somehow I don't think that would have made a difference," Jill murmurs, frowning slightly. Kneeling down, she closes MIRU's eyes. There's something about the corpse staring straight up at them that's just uncomfortable. Not that it looks any better like this, with something stuffed in her mouth and a torn off bit of cloth acting like a gag in it, hands tied behind its back, lying spread-eagled on the living room floor.

No sign of injury or hurt, at least. The only odd thing about the body would be the upturned bucket on its torso, weighed down with a few rocks. So far, no one's touched it. Not out of respect to the dead, no, but rather out of the knowledge that anything could be ammunition here. Knowledge of the murder, knowledge of the method- it's better not to say anything, that's the first thing on everyone's mind.

But sooner or later, someone has to move the body.

It's Aisu who finally steps up, wordlessly, and starts removing the rocks. She's a little nervous, almost drops one. But one person stepping up was enough and in a second Tess joins her, taking the rest of the rocks and dropping them unceremoniously on the floor.

"Well?" she says, and looks over at Aisu, who shrugs a reply. "Fine. Count of three-"

And then they both lift the bucket off, only for them to drop it almost immediately at the sight underneath.

It's a bloody mess, the torso, with bits of bone showing and blood everywhere. The edges of the wound are jagged, almost as if the skin was ripped out rather than cut-

-no. Not ripped.

Clawed.

Eaten.

From inside the body, there's a faint movement. It takes a second before everyone watching sees it, and that, coupled with the bucket, suddenly makes everything clear.

Aisu gags slightly, backing off into Case, who steadies her before stepping around to take a closer look at Miru. Pao's approached the corpse from the other side, and takes the bucket, putting it away to get a better view.

"You know, I've heard about this before," Yukeh says, from where she's watching the body, her expression critical. "Put some rats in a bucket, hold them over a person and heat the bucket."

"They'll claw straight through flesh," Pao finishes. "Well, whoever did this was certainly... resourceful." She pushes her hair back, out of her face and stands up. "That can't have been a pleasant way to go."

"You mean there's such a thing?" Lavie says, and it's met with some laughter. "Wonder who'll clean up now."

"Well, it's not going to be me," Case replies. "Pity she can't clear up after herself, though. That would be ideal."

"You'd think that, wouldn't you?" Tess mutters, shaking her head. "Well. I'd suggest blowing this whole fucking house up and us all inside it, that'd get rid of whoever's killing us for sure. Seeing as I don't have enough explosives around here, though..."

She doesn't have to say it, really. As far as the rest of you are concerned, well. It looks like it's going to be another day spent getting to know your fellow friends.

Let's hope you know each other well enough to make the right choices.

Kat's already headed for the main door, guns out and an expression on her face that says that if she's going down, she's going to take everyone else down with her.

Aisu and Yukeh are shooting back, but somehow, either by sheer luck or skill or because they've got to deal with the fact that Kat is shooting at them, too, Kat somehow manages to make it to the door, and out.

Back in the dining room, the rest of you look around. "It's not like she can get off this island," Tess comments. "So she'll be out there."

"Waiting in the dark to pick us of one by one? A bit cliche, don't you think?" Case replies, leaning against the doorframe. "I'd propose another hunt, but you know how it is, money's short and all that."

Jill looks at them, mouth open, but just as she starts to speak there's a scream.

"Kat?" she asks, and then there's that scream, again.

It's definitely her.

Everyone shares a look that says: this could be a trap, this could just be a lure, but...

"I'll check," Yukeh volunteers. She's still got her revolver out in her hand and if anything comes up, well, it's not like she's a slow shot. Case nods to her and steps aside, and it's a few moments before a shot rings out.

A second or two later, Yukeh comes back in. "She must've stepped on a spider or something," she says, "found her lying on the ground, face all frozen up."

But it's always wise to make sure, and besides, dying like that is long and painful, she doesn't say.

The rest of you don't seem to mind, though, so the body's left there to rot- it's too late to clean up and anyway, you're tired after a long day and somehow you can't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, it'll be all over now.

One of the things about burns, one of the interesting things, is that when you mention them, people will inevitably think about fire. Like witches, being burnt at the stake, like torture, with a lit cigarette being extinguished in your eye. Burning and fire, they go together. No one asks why, they just do.

The other interesting thing about burns is that in a pinch, just about anything hot enough works just as well as fire does.

This is why, when Yukeh wakes up, she smells something like soup.

It's not a bad smell, as smells go. It's just like there's something cooking, only it's odd because the room she claimed for herself isn't anywhere near the kitchen or the main hall. It's near the back garden, in fact, and the only thing outside her window are the porch, the rest of the island and the outdoor jacuzzi. Odd, but she's been in stranger situations. They all have, anyway, so it's no big deal.

Getting off the bed, she drags a brush through her hair a time or two. That smell's still in the air, and whatever it is it seems to be coming from outside. By this time, the sun's up in the sky, and she figures, hey, maybe she's going mad...

"Yukeh, good morning."

That's Jill, at the door. Her expression's a bit more worried, and Yukeh doesn't have to ask why.

"Who's missing?"

"MUGS. Have you- did you hear anything? See anyone? I know I haven't, but that's what we'll all say..."

Behind Jill, Aisu turns up. "Yukeh? Oh, you're here, that's good. Have you seen-"

"No, I haven't. Is someone cooking something, though? There's been this smell around."

Jill steps into the room, Aisu after her, and takes a few sniffs. "You're right about that. Strange, I didn't smell anything out there."

Almost tentatively, Aisu heads over to the door connecting Yukeh's room to the porch. "Do you mind," she starts- and then opens it anyway, stepping out.

"Oh," she says, a moment later. "Oh. Um, I think I've found her."

---

One of the interesting things about commercially made jacuzzis is that they can withstand water temperatures of up to 104 Fahrenheit without malfunctioning. From the way this one appears to be somewhat damaged, then, a careful observer would be able to deduce that the now tepid water filling it was at some time in the recent history of its use at a temperature of above 104 Fahrenheit.

The other thing that would have tipped them off would probably have been the body floating in it.

Bits of skin have been flaking off and floating in the water, which is by now a sort of vague red colour, and what skin left on the corpse is an ugly mass of white and brown, inflamed and peeling off at the same time.

"Ooh, that looks nasty," Pao comments, grabbing onto the torso of the body and hauling it out onto the porch. Aside from getting wet, bits of skin have stuck to her, too, but she doesn't seem to notice as she turns the body over, face up. Or rather, front up. There's not much of a face left on it, to be honest.

Lavie peers over her shoulder at the body. They've all gathered to take look at it, and regardless of how unrecognisable it might be right now, the fact that there's ten of them and one body pretty much speaks for itself. "Wish I could say it was suicide, that'd solve so much problems," she murmurs, looking over at its ankles and wrists, which have been neatly bound together. "Somehow I don't think so, though."

"Pity, isn't it?" Kat shrugs, not willing to get involved with this one. "I took care of Val the first time, that was trouble enough. Besides, my leg-"

"No one said you had to," Miru says, giving her a sharp glance. She's leaning against the wall of the house, arms crossed. "But the fact that she's dead, that it hasn't stopped, you can't just ignore that."

"I wasn't, for crying out loud, do you have to make it sound like I'm some kind of idiot?"

Before they can get into an argument, Case picks up the corpse, slinging it over one shoulder and getting bits of it all over the floor and himself in the process. "Oh, go on in," he says, gesturing at the door. "I'll join you all later." Taking a few steps down into the garden, the body still dripping, he grins back at the rest. "And you know, I really was looking forwards to a nice long soak later. Is the world against me, today?"

It's Tess who flips the middle finger at him, Tess who hasn't said anything yet, who knows all too well that it could've been her there, it could've been her body being dragged off to be thrown in some hole nearby and getting dirt kicked over it. "Get the fuck out," she says, a half-smile on her face, "and don't come back until you're done."

"Trust me," Case replies, and everyone who's still around laughs.

Oh, you'll trust all right. In no one but yourself, and in nothing but your words.

Today's shaping up to be a fine day already.

It's faster, this time. In fact, it's not even night when all votes are in, all decisions are made.

No one has to say a word, even. There's no shouting, no posturing, not like the previous day. Experience? That's one word for it. And it's always nicer to be civil to people, after all. Never know when they're going to kill you, and hey, maybe if they remember you as 'that nice kid', they'll go easy. A quick death and all that, as compared to two hours spent cutting you slowly to bits.

Then again, maybe not. But you never know, right?

So it's with a sigh and a smile that Hannah shakes her head at the end of it all. "You guys are really set on this, huh," she comments, and then: "You sure you know what you're doing?"

Of course they do. Of course you do.

You're just taking care of yourself.

"Well, then hurry the fuck up."

And that's Tess, who can't quite mask the tension in her voice, the question of how long this is going to take because goddamn it she's tired and she just wants this to be over already, and that's Jill with a hand on her shoulder, bending down and whispering something to her, and whatever it is, it seems to have calmed her down for a second or two.

"It's a bit crude to put it like that," Jill says, straightening, "but, yes. I'd think we know. What we're doing, that is." She shrugs a little, almost apologetically.

Almost. Not quite.

The others are quiet, just waiting- because some of us have more patience than that, because some of us haven't had one of our eyes and most of our face pretty much clawed up, because some of us are busy doing forming a synchronised floor and celing inspection unit.

"Want a gun?" Lavie offers, looking askance at Hannah. "Not like you don't have your own, but, well..."

"It's alright," she replies. "You know, I'd really hate it if the rest of you think I'd be as easy to take down as that."

Miru shakes her head. "We don't. You want a chase?"

Hannah pauses to think for a while, and then nods.

"Yes," she says, "I think I'd like that."

---

It's night. Not that it makes much of a difference, anyway- it was a cloudy day and none of you even noticed the sunset. More important things on your mind, like, say, not getting killed now.

Miru, Tess and Jill chose to stay behind, said they'd look after the house. Look after each other, and anyway, that was fine. The odds were stacked enough, after all. So now, in the dark, with only the moonlight and what little illumination there is from the house, the other eight are out.

No one knows where Hannah is. She had a headstart, after all, it was only polite.

"We'll split up," Mugs suggests. "I'll go with Yukeh and Aisu to cover this area and all of you can work out how to cover the rest of this island."

Pao coughs, muttering something under her breath. "The rest of us, huh."

"Do you have a problem with that?"

"No, no, except that it'll take forever, at this rate." She yawns, covering her mouth. "Why don't we just all go wherever the hell we want and for a bit of motivation, whoever manages to kill her gets, let's see..."

"I've got two hundred with me," Kat offers.

"Hundred and fifty." That's Lavie.

"Two thousand," Case murmurs, and the others look at him odly for a moment. "What, well, you never know."

They pool their money, including the rest, do the sums and it comes to just under three thousand euros, a good enough sum. Hannah would be proud that they'd manage to get that much, in a place such as this.

And then it's on.

Mugs heads off on her own first, while Aisu waits for a bit, before following- no harm in that, and if something's in the way then at least it won't go for her, first. The rest of them split up, Pao, Yukeh and Kat to the beach, Case and Lavie to the forest.

About fifteen minutes later, there's a scream. Kat's got her left leg stuck in some sort of trap, knives angled downwards into a small pit and it's hurting like fuck so if the other two could just get her out, please, please, thank you-

Aisu's run into some trouble of her own, found herself in a patch of ground that's not quite what it looks like and twisted an ankle. She'll be fine, because Mugs hears her and goes back to lend a hand, and later, lend a shoulder to support her back to the house.

Case walks around a bit, and then decides to return to the house. Frankly, Hannah's already as good as dead, and someone else can do the dirty business. Running around in a forest avoiding knife traps isn't quite his idea of a fantastic evening, and anyway, money goes around and comes around, all you've got to do is wait.

So it's Lavie who finds Hannah. Hears her, more like, and there's a moment of doubt because this isn't going to be easy. But that was the whole point, so she's not complaining.

She glances around a bit, there's got to be something she can use. Gun, sure, but who knows if-

Hannah's behind her already, knife in hand and about to stab and-

She barely ducks in time under her arm, gets her gun out but her hand's hit and she drops it, too late, can't go back for it now and-

She's ducking again and feeling around and there's something, just there that she grabs and pulls up and stabs and-

-the knife stops, inches from her head, and then drops from a lifeless hand.

---

It's past midnight when Lavie comes back to the house, a sharp grin on her face and Hannah's head on a tyre iron, cut off at the neck with Hannah's own knives.

"Money's mine," she says, and sits down in the nearest chair.

"Think you're going to be around long enough to spend it?" Yukeh asks, from where she's giving Jill a hand with cleaning and bandaging the wounds on Kat's leg.

"Dunno," Lavie answers, "but, you know what?
since I'm offering the traitors the option to pick their preferred method of murder, would you guys like to pick your preferred method of death if you get voted for? it's optional, and if you don't pick then I'll just come up with something like I did with Tricks. all comments will be screened.

also, I've heard that some people might be considering using screen videos or screencaps to prove that they're not traitors, by demonstrating how they can't access the traitor only post. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. mafia's a game about words and trust, and anyway if I were the traitor and I was asked to do this I'd just open up photoshop and cheat. but, yeah, no screen videos or screencaps, please, because that makes things really unfair and sort of upsests the dynamics of the game.

that being said, I'm keeping a private post with my notes on the game and I have to say it's been really, really fun to watch so far and I hope that the rest of you are having as much fun playing it as I am running it.

EDIT: JUST TO SAY, THOUGH, I REFUSE TO WRITE ANY MORE SCENES WHERE PEOPLE GET VEGETABLES STUFFED UP THEIR ASS.

Guess I'll be keeping a commentary on this from day 2 onwards- haha oh god yesterday night. YESTERDAY WAS FANTASTIC. Hannah got Miru as doctor, Miru protected Tess from the traitors and it is looking WAY UP for the loyalists.

Or was looking way up for them, anyway.

exploding dinos: I actually had two plans :| if Tess lives, I tell her I'm the doctor
exploding dinos: if Tess dies, I pretend to be the inspector and say OK, Tess WAS innocent but she's dead (that's why I told everyone NOT to vote for her last round, of course I inspected her first), MIRU IS ALSO INNOCENT (I know this because I am a traitor -- and now miru is on my side because I know she's innocent) -- looool

exploding dinos: the only way jill could be so sure that I'm not the doctor
exploding dinos: is if she's the doctor
exploding dinos: /lynches her

...But Miru is the doctor, and if Case had just said 'I know you're innocent' rather than 'I know you're the doctor-', that would be pretty risky. However the plan of 'MAKE IT SEEM LIKE I'M BEING FRAMED' plus 'I'M THE DOCTOR AND I PROTECTED YOU, TESS, TRUST ME NOW' is working amazingly well. Like he says, either he wins this whole thing dramatically or he goes up in flames. Either way, it should be badass.

rahmbo road: YAY
rahmbo road: PS BTW
rahmbo road: HANNAH OR LAVIE
rahmbo road: I have my suspicions on them???
rahmbo road: and theyre kinda simple minded suspicions because I really suck at playing this.

JILL DARLING YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT JUST HIT YOU. And if Case bandwagons on Hannah, he'll be getting rid of the inspector WITHOUT EVEN REALISING IT. Somehow, a situation I saw as being hugely advantageous to the loyalists just turned into a Crowning Moment of Awesome for him.

...Consider me duly impressed.

---

Writing up Hannah's death early, watching this over and over again to get an idea for what to do. Writing like this is actually a bit painful, because it is SO INCREDIBLY BAD CHEESY DURAMATIKU but it's also really fun, ahaha.

One of these days I should run a game set on a 17th century pirate ship, then I can make people run around and say things like "Avast, you scurvy dog! I'll not barter my life for your truth!"

I don't even know what that's supposed to mean, but it sounds cool, which is kind of the point.

---

People over at the death post have figured out Case is the traitor. NO SURPRISE, considering that Hannah's the inspector, and she knows Miru is the doctor and Mugs, who was on the unfortunate end of 'I'll make her trust me then I'll kill her off so HOW CAN I BE THE KILLER' was subject to Case's 'HI I'M THE DOCTOR' speech. Even if they get Case, though, Aisu is still going under the radar...

...well, no. She's pretending to be the inspector. If they manage to kill Miru tonight, their chances of winning are pretty much 100%. However, if Miru's protecting herself, Case will have- an interesting time explaining how he picked her. That, and Miru apparently did know Hannah was the inspector, so- haha, well. He's already turned one very bad situation into a good one, but two of them may be a bit difficult.

Also because Aisu's claiming to have checked Case out and confirmed his innocence, if Miru manages to prove that Case isn't innocent, Aisu will obviously be linked to that.

---

NO MIRU WHY AREN'T YOU PROTECTING YOURSELF.

D:

---

WELL day five and it's pretty certain that the wolves are going to win. MAYBE KILLING LAVIE wasn't the greatest idea- it might have been too obvious and Jill is starting to be suspicious. YAY JILL! But, sadly, it's too late.

...oh god Jill just got tripple bluffed by Case.

SHE WAS SO CLOSE. SO DAMN CLOSE TO IT. Though frankly, even if Jill turns and votes for Case or Aisu, Tess pretty much gave Case her vote so that's a 3 - 2 voting majority for the traitors ANYWAY.

But still, I'm sort of proud of Jill... even if she's getting played... totally...

---

It's over, haha. BUT FUCK, THAT WAS FUN.

It's three in the morning by the time everyone's got to bed.

Miru stayed behind to clean up, of course, and after that headed back to her room to wait for the next morning. It's been a late night for all of them, and it's only too easy to imagine that some of them might not be waking up for the dawn.

Which comes, in its own time. It's a cloudy morning, and the sun's rays are weak at this hour, but that makes no difference to all the people who're inside the house. They wake, one by one, making their own way to the hall. Some are wary, some nervous, and some-

Aisu stares. "Oh- god. My god, TESS, you-"

"I'm all right," Tess replies, weakly. "But, well, wouldn't you know it..."

She's a sight for sore eyes, indeed. Look at her, arm half torn off and a nasty cut to her head. She's got her right eye shut- and no surprise there, because whatever cut her cut right across that eye, as if they intended to cut it right out.

There's blood all over the floor. The only reason she's not dead yet are the stitches and bandages to her head and a tourniquet that's keeping her arm from being all torn off. Whoever did the job of dressing her wounds was in a hurry, but good at their job. And there had to have been someone, because to look at her state, there's no way she could have helped herself.

"Who was it?" Kat asks, and there's a look of anger on her face. "Who did this to you?!"

Tess raises an eyebrow. "Patched me up or broke me down, which one are you asking about?"

"Why don't you flip a coin and pick?" Mugs replies, deadpan, same time as Miru opens her mouth to speak.

"You must have seen something. Someone."

Tess coughs a little. "Wish I knew. I'd kill them myself, the fucker. But-" she sighs, and shakes her head. "Didn't see anything. Whoever it was, they got me from behind. Then I blacked out, and woke up like you see me now. But trust me, if I knew, or if I find out, they're going down."

"So it was too much to hope that last night would be the end of it," Pao says, yawning and stretching. "Pity."

"Don't say that," Yukeh chides, "you never know. Well- I certainly don't, so."

"So we'll just have to find out, won't we?" Case finishes, a half smile on his face. "Again." He turns around to look at the others, the ones who haven't spoken yet. "Oh, we managed it yesterday, we can manage it today, can't we?"

Hannah stares at him, frowning slightly. "Do you know anything? Because if you do, you'd better speak up-"

"No more than you do, I'm certain," he replies.

"Or no more than she'd admit to, more like," Lavie comments.

And there's no conning themselves, because they know this to be true, too. That just like yesterday, one- or more- of their own are guilty for the sight that's met them this morning. And just like yesterday, none of them are going to admit to it. None of them ever would, and for most of them, they'll even be telling the truth.

Jill glances around. "I'll go get drinks," she sighs, and starts for the kitchen. "Looks like it's going to be another long day."

Accusations fly fast, and it's really no surprise.

What were you doing? Who were you with? What's your deal, and yours, and yours-

Old rivalries come to light and new ones are created during the talking. Oh, this is democracy at its best, indeed, with everyone's fingers pointing every which way except for directly at themselves. Accusations fly fast, and free. After all, it's only murder that comes with a cost, and only the victims who pay the price. Anything else is fair game, as everything else has always been.

It takes hours to decide, but once the dust has settled...

"I didn't- I didn't," Tricks says, and then: "You don't even have any proof."

"We don't need that," Yukeh sighs. "You know that just as well as the rest of us do. And words are just another type of proof, if that's what you're worried about."

Tricks looks around the room, searching for a friendly face. But there isn't one, and that's hardly a surprise, because none of you were friends to begin with, were you? It's need rather than want that's drove you to come here, and it's the same need that's driving you now.

"I've had enough of this, so if you've decided what to do, I'm leaving." Mugs says. She glances quickly over at Tricks, but before anyone can say anything to stop her, she ducks out and leaves. No need to stay where you aren't wanted, and it's the same sentiment that Aisu and Kat apparently share, because they take their leave a second or two afterwards.

Tricks is still sitting down, keeping her hands on the table. If there's still a chance, still one more chance that maybe she can persuade the rest to understand that she-

"Look, just listen to me," is as far as she gets, before Hannah shakes her head.

"We have. We know what you have to say."

"Same thing the rest of us have," Lavie chips in. "So. Do you want to do the honours yourself, or would you like us to give a hand?"

There's a moment of silence, before Tricks shrugs, and nods, and pulls out her pistol. "Fine," she says, "I'll do it myself. I'm not that much of a wimp."

"That's the spirit," Pao says, laughing. "Come on, now-"

She's cut off when she sees where Tricks is aiming- at her.

It's a pity Tricks never gets to fire, though, because before she can pull the trigger, Jill's got her own revolver in hand and there's a neat little hole in Trick's head. Several holes, in fact, the others not so neat.

Tess looks at Jill and back at her own hand, and then at Case and Hannah, who've also got their guns out. "You know," she remarks, "I really didn't want to have to do that."

"I'm sure," Case replies.

"No, really. Don't you trust me?"

Case looks at her and shakes his head, but it's not like any other answer was ever expected. No one's trusting anyone else, especially not after what happened tonight. "You know, we might as well continue this elsewhere," he says, and heads out, Tess and Hannah following.

Jill's still back there, with Miru. Pao, Lavie and Yukeh must have left together when no one was looking, none of them are here now. Heaven only knows what they've gone to discuss...

"I'll clean up," Miru says, breaking the silence.

"Really? I thought you weren't- well-"

"No, it's fine."

Keeping her gun, Jill takes one last look at the body. It's hardly recognisable as Tricks, any more, but then again there's no real need for it to be. "Guess I'll leave you to it, then. See you tomorrow?"

Miru laughs. "Yeah," she says. "Yeah, okay. I'll see you tomorrow, then."

Again with the smell of blood.

When you first got on the island, it was more like the smell of dust and bleach, the lone bungalow not so much in disrepair as in ennui, unused, uninhabited. Until now, of course, but that hardly needs mentioning. Because of all that trouble on the mainland, you're here now, stuck here for the time being.

It's a lovely place.

The only thing that's detracting from it- well, there it is again. The smell of blood. This time, however, it's not so bad, because at least you won't be spending forever getting the stains out off your clothes. There's the old bloodstains all over the floors that never got cleaned off and all that nice new red stuff that's been ever so neatly poured out in wineglasses set on the dining table, greeting you good morning after your first night's rest.

Count them. One for you, one for me, one for you and you- and there are thirteen, in total, and all that must have come from somewhere, mustn't it?

That's the second thing Case says, the first one being: "Oh, well, that's not wine," upon picking up the glass closest to him and taking a sip. And that's when you all start looking around, and that's when you all notice that there's thirteen glasses for thirteen people and one of you...

"Val. Where's Val-?"

It's Yukeh who asks that, glancing around nervously and not taking a step closer to the table. Pao shakes her head in reply, and a few of the others mutter something about not seeing her since last night.

"Someone must have..." Tess starts.

"Seen her? Killed her, more like, from the look of it," Tricks finishes, reaching for her pistol. Much good it'll do, though, because no one's saying anything, everyone's just waiting for someone else to make the first move. Make the wrong move.

It's Miru who does, turning away from the dining table and shaking her head, half stumbling away. It's Miru who, while backing off, bumps into the cupboard by door that opens, revealing two arms and a head.

VAL's.

Drained dry and pale, sitting there looking more like parts of some oversized doll than the limbs of a person who'd been murdered the night before. Artfully arranged, too, with the eyes open and staring straight out over folded arms; someone took a fair bit of time to get this done.

You discover the rest of the parts later on in the day. Mugs comes across a leg stuffed down an umbrella stand. Aisu finds the second in the oven. Hannah opens the freezer and finds what's left, and there's a moment of debate with the rest over where to throw it out or just shut the door and pretend no one saw anything.

In the end, Kat's the one who supervises the digging down in the garden out the back, and the dried out parts are placed inside, one by one. And all of you gather around, say what needs to be said and bury the body, but there's no burying the fact that Val's dead, and it was one of you that did it. Maybe more than one, but there's no way of finding out.

Jill's the first to suggest it, over a quiet dinner- to put this up to a vote. "We know each other," she says, "we knew her. So-"

(It goes without saying that everyone has a reason, and everyone has an alibi, they do not bother to mention that.)

"I'll go with that," Lavie agrees, for reasons of her own, and so here you are, gathered together in a place that's traded one type of danger for another.

"Let him who is without guilt cast the first stone," she quotes, before shrugging and taking a look around the room. "So. Who'll start?"

SETTING :: Campo Dei Luce

☼ It's a nice little island off the coast of Sicily. There are few inhabitants here and it does get especially bleak sometimes, with its fair share of rocky shores and old ruins to explore.

☼ Perhaps if you're feeling particularly romantic, you might like to consider a nice long walk by moonlight? The gentle sound of the surf, the atmosphere of nostalgia, the feel of a razor edge against your throat- then again...

☼ Ahaha. Perhaps not. Let's move on, shall we?

☼ For the past few decades, this lovely little island's been used as something akin to a safe house by the esteemed Costa Nostra. Need a place to rest? Recuperate? Plot the downfall of the legal system? Campo Dei Luce is right there.

☼ There's a fine manor house in the centre of the island, it's somehow been provided with running water and a decent supply of electricity from the generators in the basement. It's surprisingly large and airy, but don't look too closely at the stains on the floor, will you?

☼ The coastal guard keep a fine distance from the island and really, it's a lovely, lovely isolated little stretch. Not much news comes in and not much news goes out- but that's just the way it is.

☼ Two years ago, a massacre occurred on the island. 13 people arrived and 1 was left as the sands were soaked with blood. Murder upon murder night after night, and the bodies, well, they just piled up.

☼ As to what became of the sole survivor? Obviously, having survived that, well... you'd survive anything. So perhaps someone did get their happy ending. But the thing is, well. The thing is, why let a perfectly good island go to waste? Tie a few rocks to the bodies, dump them in the ocean, and there you go, a perfectly serviceable holiday island. Baring a few bloodstains here and there, but that can't be helped, don't mind it.

PREMISE :: A Reason For Living

☾ Members of the Ciaculli Family! For all your vacation purposes, why not consider the wonderful setting of Campo Dei Luce? Away from the mainland, away from the police, and with wonderful sunsets and beaches, nothing could be finer.

☾ Oh, certainly, there are the rumours of ghosts and bloody murders and there are all those suspicious bloodstains, but you won't be adding to them, will you?

☾ After all, you're just here on a holiday. And better to holiday on this nice little island, so removed and peaceful, than on the mainland where if you make one wrong step, well, you'll certainly be taking a break from your normal life- but no where so pleasant.

☾ And who are you, anyway? No one special, just ordinary people with ordinary lives- for this part of the world, and this part of town. But you all know what's at stake, naturally, so it makes far more sense to just relax and enjoy the scenery. Murder? Betrayal? Oh, come now, that's all in the past.

☾ ...Or is it.

GAMEPLAY :: How Things Work Around Here

☆ All times will be reflected as GMT / UTC + 8 time.

☆ The game begins at 0900 HOURS on THE TWELFTH OF MAY and is conducted in cycles of 24 HOURS, along the lines of:

- 1ST 24 HOURS [ FIRST DAY ]
- 2ND 24 HOURS [ FIRST NIGHT ]
- 3RD 24 HOURS [ SECOND DAY ]

and so on.

☆ At the beginning of each day, someone is found dead. During the course of the day, players may theorize about who amongst them is picking them off one by one and vote for the person they find most suspicious.

☆ When night falls, the person with the most votes is killed by the group. During the night, those with special roles are requested to contact ang either through the posts specifically filtered to them [ traitors :: inspector :: doctor ] or through AIM [ gunmetallic gray ] or through email [ chaotic.storms[@]gmail[.]com ].

☆ When the next day dawns, another body is found.

☆ There are:

- TWO TRAITORS
- ONE INSPECTOR
- ONE DOCTOR

☆ The TRAITORS aims are to achieve the death of all loyal Ciaculli members while remaining alive and avoiding suspicion. They are aware of each other's identities but not of the identities of any other player. During the night, they may pick one person to kill.

☆ The INSPECTOR is a faithful member of the Ciaculli family with the ability to discern the loyalty that others on Campo Dei Luce have towards the Ciaculli. During the night, they may select one person to investigate.

☆ The DOCTOR is a loyal member of the Ciaculli family with the ability to protect one person from death each night. During the night, they may select one person to protect. If the TRAITORS aim to kill the protected person, the person escapes death and the day begins with no murders.

☆ The game ends either when:

- ALL TRAITORS ARE KILLED
- THE NUMBER OF TRAITORS BECOME EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF LOYAL CIACULLI

☆ In the first case, the loyal Ciaculli win and manage to make it off the island on the first boat that arrives to pick them up. They don't win anything else, but they're not dead either. Small things are something to be thankful for, after all.

☆ In the second case, the traitors to the Ciaculli win and manage to make it off the island on the first boat that arrives to pick them up. They've succeeded in wiping out a good portion of the higher ranked Ciaculli members while they've been at it, too- not a bad job, considering.

PLAYERS :: We Stand For These

Thinking of setting up and running another mafia game. Instead of a new setting, I'll just be reusing the old 'YOU ARE ALL MAFIA PEOPLE ON AN ISLAND SOME OF YOU KILLING OTHERS LOL' thing- set two years in the future, why not? Been a while since I wrote anything much, anyway, haha.

I think this one will be shooting for maximum 14 players since I'd rather it not carry on too long and boring, so signups'll either close at, uh, whenever we hit 14 players or if we don't, TOMORROW NIGHT 8PM for me which is 20:00 HOURS on the 11TH OF MAY at GMT +8 time. Which is 12 hours ahead of New York time, if I'm not mistaken, so just... yeah... it works out somehow...

Edit: Signups are now closed! To those that have signed up, please reply to this post to confirm your participation. Also, please go through all the information in that post, as it outlines how the game will be played.
