Cadence!
Write a lot and often: that's the goal here.
Cadence!
If you want to get good at something, you're going to have to
do it a lot;
get a lot of feedback so that you can adjust your aim;
let that thing take over your day so that you think about it even in the shower;
Cadence! My name is Neil. Whenever I have to think I do it verbally, by writing on a Google doc. I've stumbled on a lot of ideas in my life so far and would like to share a few here. And, because there are way too many things to talk about, I'll make sure to maintain cadence!
There are a few reasons for this:
I have control over how long it takes to make something. If I let myself take 6 months to write a blog post, it will take 6 months for me to write a blog post. If I force myself to write them in a single hour on the other hand, I'll get much, much better at writing fairly-polished writing quickly.
There are a million subjects I want to cover. "Million" is not an exaggeration: there really are a million subjects out there for me to comment on, and I have already commented on a few hundred, just not publicly.
I get to receive criticism for my ideas as I go, and I get to build up a readerbase for future (better) posts. As I publish daily, people will hopefully comment enough that I can adjust my writing style and the quality of my ideas. Also, as I get better and as the amount of people who stumble upon my blog increases, the larger the readerbase will be for my future ideas.
So that's it, then. I'm going to publish an inkling faster than is healthy: and, with enough time, the quality of my posts will increase but my cadence! will remain the same.
Posts I publish immediately, with little forethought, will bear the warning label “raw”. Posts that summarize previous “raw” posts and tie it all together in a nice, long, perfecter post will carry the label “cooked”. No: “core”. That sounds nicer.
I don’t know, I just came up with that last paragraph: I really am making it up as I go.

How interesting. How quaint. How cute. How banal. How droll. How temporarily tantalizing. Good night.
