Preserving Tradition, Advancing the Fan Experience
Built for the Big Leagues
With a storied history and an enthusiastic fan base, LECOM Park is extremely special to the City of Bradenton and baseball fans throughout the country. As the third-oldest ballpark still actively in use—behind Fenway Park and Wrigley Field—the facility is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Spring Training (January–March) and the Bradenton Marauders minor league games (April–August) each year.
NDC Construction began a trusted partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates more than three decades ago. Since then, NDC has completed notable projects at both Pirate City and LECOM Park, providing updates and enhancements for the Pirates organization and their fans—without interfering with operations. Here are just a few of them.
Boardwalk Renovations (2013) – $11 million*
When the Pittsburgh Pirates and the City of Bradenton wanted to renovate and expand LECOM Park, NDC Construction performed the design-build project with Fawley Bryant Architects.
The renovation included the addition of a 19,000-square-foot boardwalk encircling the entire stadium. The facility’s capacity was expanded to more than 8,500, with 4,600 new seats installed and 570 new covered bleachers added in left field. Upgrades were made to the scoreboard, the sound system, and security measures, while concession stands and a tiki bar were also added. The end result was well-received and obtained multiple accolades.
McKechnie Field Clubhouse (2015) – $8 million*
With an eye toward finishing the project by Spring Training, NDC Construction undertook an aggressive 5.5-month schedule to replace the 1923-era clubhouse with a new one-story, 22,516-square-foot facility. The state-of-the-art new clubhouse features two spacious locker rooms, a hydrotherapy plunge pool room, a weight room, and a full-service kitchen. It also contains conference rooms, training rooms, and office space.
Simultaneously, NDC Construction added new stadium seating and vomitories, and replaced the metal roofing over the seating areas.
Additionally, because the clubhouse expansion would impact the adjacent Bradenton Sanitation Yard, NDC Construction built a new truck wash station and 7,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building—providing welcome improvements to the yard.
Everything was completed on time and within budget.
Visitors’ Clubhouse Addition/Home Clubhouse Renovations (2023-2025) – $2 million
NDC Construction undertook the building of a new 3,000-square-foot clubhouse facility that is separate from the existing clubhouse. This new structure offers visiting teams a dedicated space to use during Spring Training visits.
The home clubhouse was also renovated in order to add women’s locker room facilities. With more female coaching and training staff joining the MLB, this enhancement was a valuable addition.

I have had the opportunity to work directly with NDC on multiple large-scale projects, including the extensive renovations and ongoing enhancements at both LECOM Park and Pirate City in Bradenton…NDC understands that sports facilities are community assets. Their work reflects a commitment to long-term sustainability and the broader regional impact of athletics, while consistently meeting deadlines, honoring budgets, and delivering spaces that perform as beautifully as they are built.
