Total number of completed stories: not counting drabbles, 10. I wrote sixteen drabbles that were decent enough to be reposted after the meme.
Total word count: without my wips, it can't be more than 30k. my guess is 25k.

Overall Thoughts

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I wrote way, way less than in years past. part of this is probably since I didn't do a big bang, which would have beefed it up, and because of the drain of olymfics. after that I swore I'd never do another fic competition or exchange, I was so drained...and then I signed up for ficmix. rule for the future: STOP SIGNING UP FOR STUFF.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in january?
dream high, since before it aired I was all trololol that is going to be a terrible show and then I was clawing at my face at how perfect kim soohyun was ~~and how terrible taek was :(~~. I didn't expect to write this much snsd either, or kangteuk and hyoyeon/donghae.

What's your own favorite story of the year?
of the "real" stories, I would probably say my ficmix. it could have been better, but looking back on it I was more inspired than I was for a lot of stuff this year. of my drabbles, blame game jongho, inspector juju jonghyun/junhyung, and the silence jongyu are my favorites. ha, they all have jonghyun in them, that's sadly a coincidence.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I signed up for olymfics and help_japan T_______T I learned that it's very difficult to force yourself to be inspired by something. although honestly, it turned out all right in the end.

kangteuk olymfic and ficmix. but it's not like I can expect much when I'm writing about eeteuk and eunhyuk, given they're two of the most hated people in fandom.

Most fun story to write:
almost all of the drabbles, especially the sm the ballad ones, the jonghyun/world ones. the snsd au wips I have are pretty fun too, I need to remind myself of that and work on them :|

Story with the single sexiest moment:
lol I didn't even write that much touching this year.

Most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
when I thought up the "domestic apocalypse" scenario for jongyu I was like wtf that is so wrong. but adventure time does it, so :\

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
writing kangteuk required me to think about eeteuk outside of his foot-in-mouth moments? but that's the way he is I guess, he's hilarious one moment and infuriating the next.

Hardest story to write:
fuck. kiseung. olymfic. I still hate the ending. I remember sitting in the tv room writing it and just silently raining on my face and jen came over and was like WHAT IS WRONG and I was like...the internet...help_japan was a sloppy process because I couldn't inspire myself, but once I thought of the eventual ideas it wasn't that bad. I went through like three different premises for the juju/jonghyun fic though and that sucked.

Biggest disappointment:
the wips I didn't finish by the end of the year, and my kiseung olymfic :\ although I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed by my writing or the reaction in the voting. rating it high or low didn't bother, but when people said it wasn't canon or that the interpretation of the prompt wasn't good that hurt :\

Biggest surprise:
the fact that I wrote so much snsd. in non-surprises: the abundance of jonghyun pairings.

Most unintentionally telling story:
????? I guess jongfany is telling in that's how I see fany if she lived in america all her life. and that I squeezed jaysica into it like a stupid thing.

anyway! the way I see jongyu has morphed a bit since I first started shipping them. I think they're close (or close in theory) partially because they're the closest in age. when you think about it, age doesn't make much of a difference later in life, but when you're a teenager even one or two years changes everything. if I had been in onew's shoes it seems only logical to reach out to jonghyun, who's only 5 months younger, first, rather than the other three, who are 2-4 years younger.

they also have really similar attitudes/aspirations about music. they've both become reasonably good dancers, but they both entered sm because of singing--onew was in sm academy and jonghyun went to a music school before he dropped out and got a ged. with the exception of zhou mi, the people they trained with mostly specialized in dancing, so I can see them getting closer because of that as well--and it shows in the number of duets they've done over the years. they're also the two most interested in composing, so I can see them getting closer over that as well.

They have similar personalities, too, in a lot of ways. They’re both a little nerdy and weird, and I can see them having a lot of in-jokes or making geeky references that no one else in the band gets. They both can assert authority, seeing as how they act as “good cop” and “bad cop” with the rest of the band, but they seem to get seriously angry infrequently. There’s a lot of noise in shinee fandom about jonghyun being a douche, but I think that jonghyun, onew, and minho are the most inherently kind of the group/the ones with the least prickly personalities. That isn’t to say that taekey are douches, but I think they’re a little more aloof and awkward, particularly with new people. Jongyu are both funny, agreeable, smart, ambitious people that would have a pretty steady relationship (this is why a lot of people can’t ship them, because they’re basically baby animals with very little conflict).

that isn't to say that they're not different. onew's music taste skews a little older than jonghyun's--he likes jazz and trot and happily does musicals and even the opera solo for their concert. jonghyun is clearly a child of pop and r&b (see: his eternal devotion to wheesung and brown eyed soul). he went to rock of ages so he clearly supports onew, but I remember in one interview he said he had absolutely no desire to do a musical. but I could be totally making that up. onew used to be incredibly awkward on tv, but he's learned to adapt and appeal to a multitude of people and audiences. He fits in well with the established comedians. jonghyun knows how to appeal to shinee fans, he plays off of the other members pretty well, but you could never send jonghyun alone on a show. he's not someone with universal appeal like onew and he doesn't seem to really mind that either. He composes, he hangs with his heroes, he does smtb, he bangs sekyung—he’s got a lot of what he wants. but again, this is speculation and I could be completely wrong.

jonghyun’s a little more mischevious than onew and would hesitate much less about breaking rules if they got in his way—in an interview he gave a while before/maybe while he was trying to woo sekyung, he said “something has to explode for it to be fun” in regards to shinee’s clean reputation, and that’s something that, imo, onew would never say (at least not in public). Like I said, they’re both nice people, but I see jonghyun as having a small group of very close friends and onew being more willing to branch out/go drinking with people he’s just met. jonghyun doesn’t take teasing well, especially when it’s about his singing, and onew loves to tease and make jokes. Onew can drink much, much more than jonghyun, who gets really bad cases of asian glow. They’ve both been seen smoking but fandom seems to think that onew has quit. These might be sources of conflict, if you’re looking for them.

The tl;dr version is that jongyu are very similar losers with subtle differences that get along quite fabulously. if you have further questions go ahead and ask, and undamage could probably go much more indepth than this.

Part 1: The Part Where Wikipedia Is Copypasted.

Here we have baby Nole’s first television interview. Awwwww, he looks exactly the same.

Novak Djokovic (Serbian: Новак Ђоковић, Novak Đoković), pronounced [ˈnɔvɑk ˈdʑɔːkɔvitɕ] (born 22 May 1987) is a Serbian professional tennis player, who is currently ranked the World No. 3 2. He is often called by his nickname, Nole, pronounced No-lay.

He has won one Grand Slam singles title, the 2008 Australian Open, becoming the first player representing Serbia to win a Grand Slam singles title and the youngest player in the open era to have reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slam events. He was also the runner-up at the 2007 US Open and a bronze medallist representing Serbia at the 2008 Olympic Games. In addition, Djokovic won the Tennis Masters Cup in 2008 and has won five Masters Series tournaments.

Novak Djokovic was born in Belgrade, SFR Yugoslavia to Srđan, a Montenegrin, and Dijana, a Croat. His two younger brothers, Djordje and Marko, are also tennis players with professional aspirations. Since the end of 2005 Novak has been dating Jelena Ristic (former schoolmate).

Part 2: Nole’s Mad Skills

Why we should like him as a player?

This is a tennis lesson from Nole from Time Magazine’s site. He is a fabulous teacher. And he’s got some mad skills. He’s basically an all-around player—his tennis is best on hard courts, but he adapts fairly easily to all surfaces, demonstrated by how he’s reached the semifinals at every slam. He has a badass forehand and a love of drop shots, which sometimes lands him in trouble when they…don’t go over the net.

In comparison to the other big two, Federer and Nadal, Nole shows a lot more emotion on court. He’s known for bouncing the ball a lot before he serves, and the more he bounces it, the more important the point is to him. He yells, he flails his hands around, he shrugs, he beats his chest. It makes him both thrilling and exhausting to watch, because the emotions you see him express, you start to feel yourself. Sometimes Nole does get caught up in his own emotions (hence the occasional choke) but I think he’s slowly getting better. As I’ll elaborate later, Nole has gotten more and more mature on and off court as I’ve begun to follow him.

And if his lovely play doesn’t get you, keep this in mind—when Nole wins, Nole takes his shirt off.

Part 3: Off-Court Behavior

For a while, people following the men’s game talked the most about Federer-Nadal-Djokovic as the forces to be reckoned with (Now it’s them plus Andy Murray), and Nole was pegged as being incredibly different from the other two. And he is, in some ways. Roger and Rafa are known for being mild-mannered, classy, and, in general, not very controversial. Nole, on the other hand, is loud, funny, sometimes outspoken, and not afraid to speak his mind no matter what the issue. I love Roger and Rafa and wouldn’t change anything about them, but I love Nole for being their opposite.

I’m not gonna lie, Nole has said some incredibly stupid stuff—his parents haven’t said the smartest things either. The American press isn’t terribly fond of him (Although except for Jon Wertheim, the American press doesn’t love anyone that isn’t American), and neither is my grandmother. In fact, the reason I joined this comm in the first place is to get away from the negativity about Nole and, to a lesser extent, Roger in the mainstream press. I won’t defend the stuff he’s said in the past, but in recent times he’s definitely learned to bite his tongue. I can’t say I’m not proud /sniff

this is the best English television interview I’ve seen of Nole, given this year at Wimbledon. A few years ago, he wouldn’t have been this calm or well-spoken. So proud, so proud /sniff

Part 4: Nole and his BFFs

this is written by an_ljubic, who is a god among us and knows way more about Nole’s friends than I could ever hope to know.

Novak is really friendly, and that’s a fact. You can usually see him flirting having a good time with his fellow serbs, Rafa and Muzz, or ~fighting over a pair of socks with Gillou. Even Roger, who wasn’t very fond on him because of the impersonations, ended up asking Nole what to do when the Queen came to Wimbledon (I think Nole didn’t know either, but they both handled the situation pretty well). They really respect each other and talk football sometimes.

Viktor Troicki is his best friend on tour. I still remember Nole’s gf Jelena tweeted something about him being the ~third weel of their relationship lol (her twitter was so cute!). I’m pretty sure you all watched that Gypsy video but it’s a solid evidence of their camaraderie so I’ll leave you with that :P

Muzz has been an important part of Nole’s life =) …lol ok ok jk, but they’ve known each other for quite long. At the AO 06, they played doubles together and lost, but Mandy’s hair is still the cure for depression. There are ups and downs, and I think these guys have had low points in their relationship but they get along pretty well. Plus, it seems like they practice together. A lot.

Gillou ♥ Watching two of my favorite players get along that well makes me happy =) Too bad the video won’t embed, but Nole thinks Gillou looks like Edward Cullen (and according to him is quite an honor). And here’s the ~sock fight video

While Delpo was fulfilling his duty as the official Boca Ambassador, I think he gave Nole a Boca shirt (Roger and Rafa got one too but none for Muzz). Then, I’d say he’s friends with Mario Ancic too ‘cause they live next door in Monte Carlo and practice together quite often (or practiced, since Mario isn’t at his best =/). Gael used to be closer to Nole when they were juniors. Finally, Marat likes hanging out with him =) (and who wouldn’t).

Part 5: Nole and Serbia

This part will probably bore you all to tears, but I think it’s important to mention. Serbia’s a very politically...troubled country right now so it’s hard to separate Nole from his place of birth. I won’t go into detail about the history behind the current situation in the Balkan peninsula, but if you guys have any questions about the matter feel free to ask me. I myself am not from there, but I did a research project on the area throughout the 20th century so I have some understanding of the situation.

Nole (and to a lesser extent, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic) are a big source of pride for Serbian people. They send out an image of Serbia to the world that isn’t based on shady politicians or the murderers of the 1990s. As a taxi driver told Nole’s inteviewer for Men’s Vogue, Nole has done more for Serbia’s image than any politician. He has a hand in running the ~~Djokovic Open~~ Serbia Open, and his parents have a charity for children.

Kosovo’s secession is a touchy subject for him, because he has family there, and, to be honest, it’s a touchy subject for all Serbs. I can’t think of a proper analogy that demonstrates how culturally significant Kosovo is—the closest thing, I think, are the thirteen colonies, but even then we Americans don’t consider those anywhere near as important as they do Kosovo. The 2008 protests in Belgrade were violent, but the video he recorded for the protest was nonviolent, and he wasn’t present.

One of the biggest political issues in Serbia today is whether to remain an ally of Russia, or to apply for EU membership. Nole, like the current Serbian president, supports joining the EU, which in my opinion is the better option. That said, joining the EU won’t be an easy process. Nole considers the other South Slav ethnicities his equals, and even his brothers. He was once mistakenly called a Croat at a tournament, and although he corrected the announcer, he said something to the effect of “it’s okay, we’re all the same”. He’s also done some peaceful stunts with Croat players on tour, such as exchanging shirts. It’s a very innocent way of looking at it, because the South Slavs are quite culturally different from one another, but it shows that unlike the ethnic cleansers of the 1990s, Nole doesn’t consider himself above them. Props, bb, props.

okay first warning: I don't have any pictures :( which, yes, is entirely my fault. I charged my camera and then forgot the vital step of PUTTING THE BATTERY BACK IN. so yeah. I suck. I'm sorry. if it makes you feel any better, since the stadium was dark and the lights were insane there are very few pictures that would have come out well. anyway.

also, weirdly, it ended two hours earlier than I think smtown seoul did? although I think that might have been a combination of a) the afterparty, b) la transit being a douche and ending really early and c) the staples center being like gtfo idek. I honestly didn't mind that much. we still got a LOT of special stages and eargasms.

the good news is that I got there just fine, taking the train. we got a hotel for after the show and then I came back to school this morning. and then collapsed onto my bed. I hate los angeles, shittiest city in the entire world, but I'll do it for you, smtown.

DANA AND SUNDAY WERE AMAZING. sunday was really cute and she was like "hi! I'm sunday! :D" my everything was flawless. zhang liyin was amazing too :(

I got really excited when I heard the first few notes of lachata. I LOVE ALL OF F(X)'S DANCES T____T and then like, shrieked when luna started singing, girlcrush forever. no amber :(

they all introduced themselves in english, and victoria said a few words in chinese, and then krystal was like "we're really honored to be here and now I'm going to introduce my sister jessica :D" so then they did tik tok and it was so hilarious I was dying. their choreo was really cute though, probably better than kesha's choreo tbh :| and minho came out for chu, which made everyone scream, although I definitely fell out of my chair laughing when krystal was like MINHO!!!!

KANGTA WAS AMAZING. he had a lot of stage presence and...swagger idek and he and ara's duet had this adorable skit where they kept randomly finding microphones everywhere. ARA IS REALLY PRETTY. so then the entire stadium started screaming and I was like wtf and then I realized onew was on the stage giving ara a mike lmao. and then he like, bowed to kangta and left idek so cute :( ara and yeonhee were both really impressive as singers.

the trax were really great too ;; they did cold-hearted man first and I was really impressed, and then they kept doing better and better with their other songs. jay spoke english ^____^ and in general he was pretty great.

I think this was when kyuhyun and seohyun did their duet? you could barely hear kyuhyun over all the screaming jfc, but seohyun did a really good job of projecting over everyone. seohyun, jonghyun, onew, luna, key, and ryeowook were the easiest people to hear/the ones who were the best at projecting. and of course whenever changmin...screamed you could definitely hear that. but their duet was really cute and when they held hands I was like :33333 omg :3333

ZHOU MI AND LUNA'S DUET WAS SO CUTE AHHHHHHHH DKGjDFLKGKDLFJ zhou mi was wearing a suit and glasses and was dapper and tall and his voiiiiice and luna had this cute pink dress and they stood next to each other and the height difference was the cutest thing in the world :(

heechul did this song where he screamed and flailed a lot but it was also pretty great, and it started with henry playing an ELECTRIC FUCKING VIOLIN. I'm almost positive he kissed henry during the song, or made it look like he did, and according to someone else he kissed zhou mi too. oh heechul :D

when I heard the first notes of stand by me, I didn't know whether to laugh or 8D. the song reminds me so much of senior year and wasting my time watching bof with sloth, even though I hate listening to it lmao. but jonghyun and onew were so nice to listen to 8) and they were the first group to really...mingle with the fans. can I just say now that JONGHYUN IS A SPAZ. if they're not dancing he's like, nodding his head and having a minor seizure in place. and then my friend was like "he's really short" SOBBING he's so cute :( and taem and minho have literally no singing parts in stand by me so they looked really bored :( but they sang replay next and I guess they weren't so bored then.

after replay they introduced themselves. they said "hi we are shinee!" but didn't introduce themselves separately so I didn't get to hear jonghyun attempt english :( but onew asked key to say something in english and I don't remember the exact phrasing but it was like "our name means to receive light and tonight we've received a lot of light from you guys so thank you" idek IT WAS THE CUTEST THING EVER. and then he was like "are you ready for the next song?" and then like shrieked ARE YOU READY at us like three times because it was get down and apparently this made him very happy. this is also when minho started having a seizure on stage and didn't stop for the rest of the concert T_____T and hearing key say "I'm the cool cat" live was...kind of great. and onjongtae just...flailed their arms and tried to look cool. and then they did juliette, and I forgot how cool the choreo was T___T

lee yeonhee's solo was this english song, and her english was pretty bad but her singing was really good. taem played piano for her and so whenever his face was on the big screens people just started shrieking, and he was just like shyly smiling and minding his business. sobbing I wanted to take him and luna home with me :(

for the rapping stage, minkey and eunhyuk and shindong walked through the crowd (but not by us) and then onto the stage. minho continued to have a seizure! and eunhyuk was pretty badass. but that's to be expected I guess.

sobbing when yesung and jonghyun came out for their duet I was like "oh hey jonghyun lol who the fuck is that oh it's yesung oops fail." yesung should just stick to holding out notes, because his voice sounds better then than when he's like...trying to be all swaggery idek :\ jonghyun is flawless, and that's not even bias talking okay.

snsd had the cutest outfits for run devil run :D they were these hooded sparkly black dresses idek they were adorable. jessica's hair looks really good! sooyoung's...doesn't T___T I think tiffany might have gotten botox in her cheeks or her wisdom teeth removed or something. if the former, DO NOT BE BOM. they introduced themselves in english and then tiffany asked us if we were having fun and then said she was nervous :3 :3 :3 but then she was also like it's really great to be here! god bless you all! and then they changed their outfits on stage (not a big deal, they had their next outfits on under the dress) and tiffany was like sooyoung can you introduce the next song? and sooyoung said "the next song is kissing you" in a really adorable korean accent T______T during kissing you and then later during himnae they didn't dance in formation, but fany and yuri were closest to us and they were doing the dance in place and it was really adorable :3 :3 :3 :3

the first song suju did was super girl 8) they did the korean version and everyone except heechul took part, which was...surprising. henry still had his dance solo, but yesung took zhou mi's part and I was like >:||||| but the dance is so great sobs. NO ONE BOOS HENRY IN THE UNITED STATES. they introduced themselves, eeteuk in korean, zhou mi in mandarin, and then henry was like "hey guys it's really an honor to be here we're living the dream are you guys excited :DD" he was kind of awkward and definitely speaking on the spot but it was cute. and then siwon was like WASSUP LA!!!! and then asked us if we were "having enjoying" and he gets points for trying and then he was like GOD BLESS YOU and I was like lol ty siwon. then henry and mi left and they did no other and miinah.

I'm pretty sure boa did my name first, and then talked to us exclusively in english. her english sounds really bad when she's singing, but when she's just talking she sounds fine, if a little severe with her r's. she seemed really, really excited to be here. and then cries during I did it for love key came out for the guy's part and they stood next to each other and HE. LOOKED. SO. BIG. I mean he's not short and I already knew he had broad shoulders but he looked gigantic next to boa and really, really manly. I'd hit it.

the dancer stage was SO. BADASS. first it was just taemin, then taemin and eunhyuk, then hyuk, taem, luna, and hyoyeon. at this point I was practically screaming GRIND ON EACHOTHER but they didn't :( then luna, yuri, yoona, sooyoung, and hyoyeon did a dance to that one go girl song (shake them dice and roll em or whatever?) and I was like lol so gangsta. and then the boys came back, now accompanied with shindong, donghae, and minho (LOL WHAT) and they all danced together. I still wish hyohyuk and taemluna had done some grinding but I'll take what I can get :\

after this they showed this video that was all SMP! SMP! and then there were a few lipsynched performances. ring ding dong and nu abo were obviously lipsynched, and I think genie and sorry sorry were also but I'm not sure. I have to say though, snsd's genie outfits were fucking adorable. I was really scared that this meant the rest of the performances would be lipsynched too, but thankfully that wasn't the case. I think it was right after ring ding dong that onew did the name I loved, although I'm not gonna lie I didn't see the point in him doing it with ryeowook :| it's not like ryeowook sang badly, but it's...onew's solo. but onew was still flawless :|

F(X) DID MR. BOOGIE. IT WAS FLAWLESS. LUNA IS AMAZING. jonghyun was really hilarious to watch during up and down, he was just...flailing in place but I was still like :Q________ it was neat to see the whole song live instead of just the part they did on music shows 8D

homin's entrance was pretty epic. there was this huge booming voice that was all DONG BANG SHIN KI and then they were raised on these wires up to the top and then just made jesus poses and floated around for a good minute. the entire stadium was FREAKING OUT. I bet some people had problems with them introducing them as dbsk, but I saw it as like...a glimmer of hope idek. and I :")-ed whenever I saw TVXQ! on the little ticker going around the stadium.

they did this cute medley of dbsk songs first, with the way u are, RISING SUN (!!!!!! DANCE BREAK!!!!!), o I think?, purple line (LOL YUNHO'S GAY DANCE) and mirotic. during mirotic changmin did yoochun's rap and I laughed a little except then he did his scream and I was like :OOOOOOOOOO changmin has really bad hair by the way. the sad thing though was during part of mirotic you could hear jaejoong and junsu's voices really, really clearly, almost as if they were backstage. for the rest of the concert, homin were so mindblowing that you almost forgot there were three members missing, but in that moment it was like a huge blinking JAECHUNSU ARE NOT HERE sign. in retrospect, the fact that homin didn't sing any ballads was a minor indicator as well. homin did two solos after the medley that I didn't recognize. and then homin were like "hi! we are DONG! BANG! SHIN! KI!" and then changmin was like "...thank you very much" and they left the stage and I was like LOL WHAT WAS THAT MIN.

the next stage was suju doing don't don but then there was a surprise and halfway through it became ~trax max~ (not even kidding that's what they called it) and heechul was on drums with the trax and changmin was singing and screaming with jay and halfway through he just...ripped his shirt apart. my friend who doesn't know dbsk that well was so impressed with him, and of the two changmin actually rocked the stage a lot more. yunho's dancing was good but that's pretty much all he did, and I wasn't close enough to really see his gorgeous face :\ idek but it was cool!

suju did dancing out and u (!!!!!!!!) and I was so excited for u you guys don't even understand. during dancing out sungmin and shindong were like goofing off in this little corner together, doing sweet dance moves, and hyukhae were doing really ridiculous fanservice. at one point, siwon wasn't wearing anything except a blazer, and I got a really good look at his abs. they are really defined D: this one girl was waving around a little cutout of heechul's twitter icon, and he literally took it from her and waved it around for the rest of the show LMAO also during u, sungmin took a fan's camera and took a picture of himself during his solo, then gave it back to her. LUCKIEST GIRL EVER :((((

snsd had really cute outfits for oh :( and for gee :( and of course tiffany changed the beginning of gee to fit la because she is adorable :(

quasimodo was really, really pretty :( all of them did a great job and jonghyuuuunnnnnn :((((( him and onew did their part in making up for jaesu not being there, let's just say that. and lucifer was GREAT sdlkgjdfl sobbing :(((( I was like, bouncing up and down in my seat.

BOA BOA BOA!!! she got her own introduction video. there was a problem with the sound system when she first came on, and it was playing dangerous and energetic at the same time lmao. and boa was like "I can't hear my voice!" in her cute little english and sounded so distressed. and then she sang dangerous and afterwards someone came out and touched her mic and she was like "okay now I can hear my voice :D" so cute :(((( and then she sat on a chair and was like "this is really really special for me, I always wanted to perform here and also I just released hurricane venus, and it's really special because it's my tenth anniversary :DDD" and then she was all "this is my favorite ballad" and sang stand by. and then they...took the chair away and she did energetic and hurricane venus. she ROCKED both of them like crazy. the stadium exploded during hurricane venus.

boa stayed in her outfit, but then everyone else came out in the smtown shirts and started singing the last song. onew and kyuhyun were hanging off of each other for the entire thing. boa had a solo line and donghae was like, cupping her chin and then she poked him like "gtfo" and it was adorable :((((( luna spent the whole song in front of my section waving at people like the cute little thing she is :( can I just put luna in my pocket :( jonghyun took a ginormous camera from a fan and took a picture of a few snsd girls and maybe minho and then gave it back and I was like ldkfgjdfl so jealous :(((( I don't see how people think he's an asshole, he only had three functions the whole night: herp derp, charismatic, and adorable :( I'll have to watch fancams to see what other people were doing, but I mostly just watched onkyu and luna because they were right in front of me and I couldn't find jonghyun :\

after the song ended, everyone pretty much loitered on stage for as long as they could. minho and a few members of suju took a picture at the end and onew ran back to them except...not in time for the picture LMAO. snsd and shinee stayed behind after everyone had gone off to say hello to the crowd one last time as a group, and then eeteuk and one other person were the only people left on from suju and they were just like "....WE ARE SUPER JUNI-EOYO!" by themselves lol. after the concert was over we loitered around trying to find the heart-shaped smtown confetti they were releasing from the air, and we succeeded! mine broke though so I have to tape it back together. and I managed to secure a few abandoned balloons and glowsticks :D

other than the obvious seeing smtown live part, they left a huge impression on me because of how hard they tried to speak english exclusively throughout the show. at kmf nicole said "are you guys having fun?" like twice and nichkhun introduced himself in english, and one older singer spoke english but that was really it- all the announcements and mc dialogues were in korean, and most of the artists didn't even try. it sounds bizarre, but at smtown I felt like, as an english-speaking fan, I actually mattered to them. even if they just said "my name is ____" or "thank you" it made a huge difference. I think boa, tiffany, siwon, henry, krystal, and key made a big impact on the english-speaking fans because of this, boa, fany, and henry especially, because you could tell they were nervous and it was really sweet. key's english has improved, too, his pronunciation is really good and he talks pretty quickly in comparison to say, siwon and boa. likewise, zhang liyin/zhou mi/victoria got huge reception from the chinese fans when they spoke mandarin. idek I just really, really appreciated them even trying to speak my language. it made the whole concert that much nicer :")

before I start I should mention that I didn't actually get to see the wonder girls perform. my friend and I had to catch the last train leaving la back to college which meant we left right before they started. sunye and yeeun did sing with a trot singer though, so we saw them. but hey, I didn't go for the wonder girls, so idrc.

GORGEOUS FLIGHT ATTENDANTS. basically pre-concert a ton of people were handing out free stuff but the lines for the free stuff were hella long so I didn't really bother. and I mean, what would I have done with the free stuff. carried it around. :\

instead I sold my previous ticket for half the price to an ahjumma who gasped when I said "I speak korean" in korean lol and then proceeded to haggle with her in korean. and then practically kissed her feet when she bought the ticket.

this boy. is dressed. as hyoyeon. I have some videos of this fierce asian guy dancing to oh and crazy because of you but I need to upload those :\

if I had to rank fangirl/fanboy presence, it was 2pm > beast > kara > wonder girls, although the cheers for wg were still loud as fuck. nichkhun got the loudest cheers of any single person (seriously when his face was on the big screen all I could hear was screaming). there were still a TON of b2utys or whatever they're called, so I was happy.

I don't know this trot singer's name, but she sang a song with snsd on a music show recently? and she sang the same song with sunye, yeeun, gyuri, and seungyeon ~~the only girl group singers present with singing ability~~. sunye is gorgeous I hate her.

a song about the world cup with haha, kim jong kook, 2pm, and kara. it was cute idk.

by far the fiercest non-idol there. she spoke a ton of english and the poolside section was going crazy for her and she was like "YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO I AM DO YOU" and they just...screamed louder. and the absolute best was when she sang amazing grace and then she was like "now I'm going to sing it for the koreans" and SANG IT TROT STYLE MOCKINGLY LMFAO

~indian wells~ days three and four, compiled in one post because we got out of our session on day three at midnight and like hell was I posting then :|

I missed jankovic's semifinal match due to a higher calling, so by the time we got there, the most exciting thing going on was andy murray practicing shirtless.

it was extremely hot out there, and it didn't help that we were in the direction of the sun and I was wearing black (while putting on sunscreen I may or may not have accidentally undies-flashed the muzz ugh embarrassing). there were a couple of kids and their mom sitting next to us who kept whining and fucking yelling at murray to sign their stupid oversized tennis balls (like, "andy we're dying in the sun hurry up!"). I wanted to lean over and be like, bitch is practicing he owes you twats shit, but instead I just walked away for a while. idk I hate when fans treat people like their property. when I came back, my mom had this:

roddick had a signing that day, but in order to get an autograph you had to have a ~red piece of paper~ that they stopped handing out about ten minutes before the signing started. so I was kind of like uh wtf and wanted to smack the security guard that kicked me out of the line due to my not having this red thing. and the woman in front of me who had one had already gotten roddick's signature THREE TIMES. what a greedy bitch, I just wanted one for my obsessed brother :(

still nothing of interest was going on, so we laid out in the grass. it then came to my attention that court three was empty and had no security.

as you can see, this was a very exciting tennis day. :| we ended up leaving and then coming back shortly before stosur's match ended so that we could ~sneak~ into the night session, which had two vastly more interesting matches than what was going on during the day. I'm not even going to bother posting stosur pics because I don't really care. unfortunately, her match ended early, and they kicked everyone out of the stadium to prepare for the night session, foiling our plans. but we are crafty people.

you see, they had this text-to-win contest to win box seats for the night session. WE didn't win it, but the people who did saw us sitting outside the stadium, eating tacos sadly, and asked if we'd like their tickets. we about fell over ourselves saying thank you, I just wish the ticket had the man's address on it so we could send him something. his tickets were about the same level as the ones we bought, but on a different side.

this meant we got to see.....rafa! blurry action shot is blurry.

slightly better. no flash + no sunlight = not so great quality. but rafa! of course bb is committing fashion crimes but I can forgive him.

so, interesting story. after this match was a women's doubles match, and since pretty much EVERYONE left the stadium, it was announced that any person with a ticket could sit in the lower-level seats, as long as they moved if the actual ticketholder reared their head. meaning...we sat courtside. 8D

this was our view, without zoom. BALLIN. ahem. anyway.

cj! I think she must be trained in america or lived there at some point, because her english sounds quite fluent and she kind of carried herself like an american would. she also said sorry if her ball happened to hit the other players :( what a cutie.

I might have to become a zheng jie stan, she is seriously the cutest thing ever. her squeals of displeasure whenever she did something wrong made the whole crowd :3.

their high fives are really cute. they are just cute, overall.

they ended up losing, though :( I ran around the stadium to try and get their autograph, but as you can imagine they were very disappointed and just walked by with their heads down. some people were all "hey you won't even sign?" but I understood :( I'll be rooting for them from now on because they're adorable.

the team that beat them ended up winning the whole tournament :\ great for them, although I don't really care about them. I honestly thing zheng and chan outplayed them, but whatever.

THE NEXT DAY...

one picture of ljubicic because I am still a bitter bitch because he beat nole AND rafa. fuck you ljubicic, and fuck your fans harder. most of his fans were pretty composed, but this guy sitting next to us was (obviously) not croatian, was wearing employee clothes, and acting like an obnoxious asshole and would scream ljubicic's name like EVERY FIVE SECONDS. the spanish ladies behind us actually started imitating it under their breath and I couldn't stop laughing. honestly if I heard his voice rn I would rip his balls off.

also some of his fans called him "lubie". um. like, lube. what. no.

rafa wearing his unfortunate shorts again :( the rafa fans sitting behind us were too cute. but I think everything that has to do with rafa save his fashion statements are cute.

there has got to be a better way of having croatian pride than wearing those unfortunate shirts. bring a flag!

IT'S RANDY BITCH. look, he's even puffing his cheeks! this is actually the first time in a while I've openly rooted for roddick, usually I'm pretty indifferent to his results. but I have an irrational dislike of soderling so I was like WIN RANDY WIN.

oh yeah, and that asshole rooting for ljubicic was rooting for soderling. I looked at my mom and was just like WE NEED TO MOVE.

I've warmed up considerably to randy, and even though he's nowhere near my favorite I have to admit seeing him irl I understand why he has fans. he is really, really exciting to watch because he hits the ball so hard (okay and his mannerisms are hilarious). I don't think it was the atmosphere, because the crowd wasn't that vocal for him until the very end. the number of sod fans actually surprised me, because well...unless you're swedish or hate nadal I don't see the appeal. but I'm biased.

after andy wrapped up his match we skipped the ladies' doubles final in favor of swimming and came back in time to see rafa. yeah, I know, way to have female pride.

bromanceeeeee :D rafa wears normal shorts when he's playing doubles, but fug shorts for singles. idgi. also during this match they played both gypsy and baby got back. I repeat. they played baby got back during rafa's match. IT FITS SO WELL.

they're not quite as bromantic, but they're also the number one seed.

rafa played much better tonight than he did against verdasco and feli lopez. after they won rafa and marc shared two very, very bromantic hugs, but I couldn't get either of them on camera. for reference, it looked a lot like this.

there weren't nearly as many serbs there as there were in 2008. I wonder if they'll appear for jelena? I hope so.

:3. after the huge photo op crap, nadal went around signing a shit ton of autographs, way more than anyone would expect him to, the sweetheart. nestor and zimonjic (sp?) didn't really sign and marc looked kind of lost. security is usually really tight on stadium court so generally only the people sitting right above the player entrance can get autographs, but for some reason (probably because it was doubles and no one was there) security kind of gave up after this match ended. so I ran on over to that section and found myself in a huge line of people, but ended up leaning over a few chairs, tapping a girl who was at the wall, and handing her my ticket. GREAT SUCCESS.

I feel accomplished and ridiculously lucky ;______; nadal is seriously so sweet I can't see anyone disliking him. a lot of people are worried that he's overexerting himself by playing singles and doubles, and it's a valid worry and I'm worried too, but idk. he seemed really happy out there. I mean, yeah, because he won, but he looked really great. and lopez hasn't really had a moment in the sun, so I feel like rafa's just doing him an incredibly sweet favor by playing with him and getting him some titles and cash (I think roger used to do the same thing with a friend of his?). :)))))) my love for him has increased.

and that's really all I have to say. it was a ton of fun, this is a really great tournament and if you ever have the chance to go you should totally do it! the earlier days are better for seeing more people, but the atmosphere for semifinals and finals is a lot more electrifying. the food is good, there are autograph sessions, it's well organized, and (for the most part) the staff is really friendly. it is also in a really pretty setting. lots of bonuses, okay. ~~and the williams sisters don't go, although some people might see that as a bad thing~~

~indian wells~ day two

the first highlight of the day was getting to ride in a golf cart instead of walking the whole way to the tournament gates. thank you, kind old man.

next we went to see andy eeyore murray play against an irrelevant american. you can't really tell from the pictures, but our seats were much better today. I felt a lot closer to the action and had my own ledge to put my feet on 8)

when we first walked in I was like, wait, andy didn't have those guns on sunday. and then it hit me.

after andy was done we had a quick lunch break, and caught this on our way out of the stadium:

unf. they moved onto the practice courts to play some tennis after that, but we ended up going to see tsonga on one of the outer courts. lesson learned today: outer courts fucking rock. you're closer, you're cooler as long as your bleachers block the sun (ours did), you can hear players and see their faces! I mean...I knew all of that, but since there were so many good matches going on at stadium one on sunday we didn't venture out for long periods of time.

tsonga was quite fiery today! he had a lot of energy and had some damn fast serves. he is also as cute as ever :(

montanes put up a good fight, but tsonga caught fire.

HER DRESS IS KIND OF GORGEOUS. jelena always wears colors that really pop. I was rolling in envy the whole time I watched.

jelena is very classy. she walked out on the side where I was sitting, so as soon as I saw the ballkids lining up with their giant autograph balls I scurried over to see if I could get lucky. I did! it was pretty much me and the ballkids waiting for her. I told her good luck (and her clothes were even prettier close up) and some adorable old guy behind me was all "you'll be here for the finals won't you?"

at first I thought it looked like nonsense scribbles, but now it kind of looks like jj and a heart :3 she is too cute. I honestly have no idea how I've gotten this lucky. in three days the number of autographs I've received in my entire life has doubled. yeah. in eighteen point five years I got two autographs, and then came to this tournament and got the same number in three days. sobs.

AND THIS IS WHERE THE ~~BROMANCE~~ FUN BEGINS.

they are both really cute :( my mom spent this whole match trying to get a photograph of nadal picking his butt, and like squealed happily when she finally did.

feli and verdasco were very fiery during this match D: there were times when both of them got really pissed. even though they ended up losing, they seemed really comfortable with each other and more accustomed to playing together than marc and rafa. ohohoho.

DAT ASS. they played gypsy during one of the breaks (if you don't know, the song that rafa was in the mv for, during which he awkwardly watched shakira dance sexily for him and pretended to sex her up with clothes on) and I cackled inappropriately.

I didn't take that many pictures because doubles (and the match in general) is just really exciting and I didn't want to miss anything. but I made sure I got plenty of bromance shots 8D

after the ~epic spaniard doubles showdown~ was over, they kicked out all the day ticketholders so that the night ticketholders could see rogrog LOSE fuckfuckfuck. so my mom and I went over to see the end of james blake's match. since he ended up losing I'm really glad I got to see him, since I loved his book and he's pretty much the only american player I'm fond of. roddick is great for lulz, but blake is just a good kid.

I felt really bad for almagro even though he ended up winning :( some of the american fans were being really rude to him. like, he started talking to the chair umpire in spanish and someone yelled SPEAK ENGLISH. and I was just like RUDE, plus the umpire quite obviously spoke spanish. and this one guy in the first row kept heckling him, it was like being at a football game or something. what a bad impression to give someone of americans, really :(

I'm tired as hell so no more pictures for now :( I am also really heartbroken that rogrog lost, but have an overheard conversation between a man and his drunk girlfriend.

~indian wells~ day one

if you were not already aware, indian wells is very pretty.

see. very pretty. moving on. we got there at like 12-ish in order to walk around before 1:00, when murray started his match. 1:00 was also when kim clijsters was starting her autograph session and I was like CANNOT MISS THAT. we walked around to see the practice courts, but no one of interest was practicing except monfils, so we decided to just get in line to see kim.

this is how I passed the time while in line. this poor man. a lot of people at tennis tournaments are apeshit and collect autographs and like, this one spoiled little girl made me want to rip my ears off and her white trash mom was all YOU STAND IN THIS LINE I'LL STAND IN THE OTHER ONE. anyway. autographs aren't really that important to me, I'm more interested in seeing people, so I don't have many autographs and certainly none from tennis players. I've also never seen kim irl before so I was like MUST. WAIT. IN LINE. and they freaked me out when they were like "only fifteen more minutes" and I was like 20 people down but it turned out all right!

GORGEOUS SWEET AMAZING BABY. I love how fresh faced and sweet she is :(( I told her good luck and she actually said thank you and I was like :3 :3 :3 I wanted to ask about her daughter but she'd signed a lot of things by then and I didn't want to waste her time :(

while I was still waiting in line to see her, people were getting in the nadal line for 2:30. with chairs. and I actually saw nadal two years ago up close so I wasn't going to wait in a line for an autograph I might not even get. so we went to go watch andy murray and andreas seppi.

eeyore was kind of crabby in the first set (he actually yelled ANDY MURRAY!!! lmao) but he got his act together. my mom was getting really hungry so we decided to walk around and eat once it was clear he was going to win. no sign of murray's hbic mom :(

okay so now that you've seen that, let's start with some basic information. kim jonghyun and lee jinki (onew) are the two oldest members of shinee, and were the only legal members when the group debuted. both are promoted as the ~singers~ of the group and rightfully so, as you'll see when we get to their duets. :3

birthday: april 8, 1990
his official nickname is bling bling jonghyun because he wants to ~sparkle~. ...yes. idk.
enormous bias aside, jonghyun is a very gorgeous dork. he's confident in himself, but at the same time he's not as much of a variety show natural as minho or key, but he lights up whenever someone asks him to sing. he takes music and his singing very seriously- he wants to be a composer after being an idol, and wrote the lyrics to juliette. he even sings in his sleep! in yunhanam, he was the most ~smooth with the ladies, but jonghyun's a walking contradiction of combined charisma and awkwardness most of the time. he's very supportive and loving to the other members of shinee, and laughs rather loudly. he's an endearing stupid cow. :3

birthday: december 14, 1989
he's leader onew, which, yes, makes infinitely more sense than bling bling.
onew is pretty much impossible to hate. he's adorable, handsome, geeky, has a beautiful voice, and is infamous for his body gags and onew sangtae. like jonghyun, he's a huge music geek and a trot geek in particular- onew's pretty much an old man, rofl. he loves bad jokes and puns and tells them all the time on variety shows, and finished in the top two in his class in high school (he also won an episode of star golden bell! smart boy is smart). onew is universally loved by variety show hosts and comedians (particuarly jung joori) probably because they have the same mental age rofl. and well...it's hard not to love onew. look at his smile.

so, why are they an otp?

well, for starters, as you'll see in the huge number of videos, they love to sing with each other, and their voices blend beautifully. jonghyun greatly enjoys kissing and hugging onew in public as well. and onew returns the favor in a less greasy way. they're not as openly skinshippy as, say, jongkey, but they're definitely not subtle.

personality-wise, jonghyun and onew are pretty similar. they're both insanely dorky, greasy, and embarrassing, but also endearing and sweet. they're the kind of people you'd take home to your parents, and they seem pretty mild-mannered. both of them are ridiculously passionate about music too, and jonghyun said that onew is his favorite to sing with. basically, jongyu are two geeky overaffectionate puppies. :3

and let's not forget: onew and jonghyun both ship jongyu. yeah. it's that real. /lame
