In the heart of the American Southwest lies Flagstaff, Arizona, a city steeped in the mystique of the stars. Nestled beneath the dark, clear skies of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff has long been a hub for astronomers and stargazers alike. But before telescopes and observatories, ancient cultures roamed these lands, their connection to the cosmos profound. Our region’s native tribes honored the skies above, weaving celestial patterns into their traditions and ceremonies.

Fast forward to the 20th century, Flagstaff became home to world-class observatories, attracting scientists and dreamers from around the globe. It was here that Pluto, our solar system’s ninth planet, was discovered in 1930—a testament to Flagstaff’s pivotal role in the study of the universe.

Today, Flagstaff continues to be a leading community in the celebration and conservation of the cosmos, being recognized as the world’s first International Dark Sky City in 2001 all the while training astronauts to walk on the moon. We honor Northern Arizona’s rich lunar legacy all the while celebrating the star-filled future side by side with our most loyal and faithful fans.
