the most soothing and gorgeous writing, great recommendations, the most chilled-out place on Substack
someone actually doing "public philosophy"?! incredible. always thoughtful, always a must-read. also Laura's voice recordings of her essays are so great and so full of warmth and humour.
the person who has been the most *correct* in predicting what's going to happen with AI, and incredibly enjoyable snarky writing too
this is the best Substack on Substack. sorry to all the others. but for writers at least - this is Continuing Professional Development for writers, working on a short story every week, really getting into why it works, very serious intense discussion. If you loved A Swim In A Pond In The Rain, this is basically that class but in a newsletter. Brilliant.
I live in a world of middle-aged novelists fretting about whether anyone will read a book again. Jasmine's writing, ideas and guests on her podcast are a BREATH OF WONDERFUL FRESH AIR. At last, we can breathe again. She is excited about the future and eager to get to grips with what the new tools can and cannot do. Both practical and inspiring.
I've been following this newsletter since before I knew "Substack" was a thing. Austin is very very good on the creative process, on the entire creative life, and he recommends excellent books. Very life-enhancing. I wouldn't be without this newsletter.
this is what we're here for, isn't it? very in-depth reading and an encouragement to the intellectual life. AND GOOD THOUGHTS ON NOTEBOOKS.
