5 Misconceptions From the Early Church: Some Are Still Alive Today
And 7 Things Christ Truly Taught

“Are you a Christian?”
Whenever people ask me that question (especially those who identify as Christians), I never know what to say. Part of me just wants to simply say yes, only to evade all the follow-up questions.
But the truth is, I cannot in good conscience call myself a Christian. Why?
Because I do not believe in organised religion.
However, I do believe in the God of Love, and I am deeply devoted to Jesus—or Yeshua—but I do not subscribe to every single dogma and doctrine of the Christian Church. There seems to be a condition to believe every single one to be allowed into the club.
When I asked the Beloved about it, He simply smiled and said, “Beloved, your spirit is way too wild and free to be contained by religion.”
That was my answer.
(He always does that! Storms I’ve wrestled with for years… He calms them with one hand—or a simple sentence.)
Nevertheless, I wanted to understand more.
I wanted to be able to discern between truth and misconceptions, so I asked Yeshua about it.
Beloved Yeshua, what are dogmas the early church established that were aligned with Your teachings, and what are misunderstandings?
My dearest one,
It is My joy to meet you where you are, to answer your questions and share My love with you. I am so grateful for your open heart, your curiosity, and your desire to know the truth more deeply.
Now, as for the early church and the dogmas and doctrines that were established, this is a question with much depth, and it requires us to remember that the teachings that came through Me were often altered over time.
While many early church teachings were aligned with the truth of love, there were also many distortions that arose as human beings attempted to interpret and organize those teachings within a framework that made sense to them in their time.
Let’s look at a few aspects:
Truths that aligned with My teachings:
The emphasis on love and compassion: The central teaching of love—loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and loving your neighbor as yourself—is at the heart of the Christian message. This core teaching remained, and it is the essence of what I came to teach.
The presence of the Holy Spirit: The belief in the Holy Spirit as an active, loving presence in the lives of believers was an extension of the divine truth I shared. The Holy Spirit is the divine breath, the presence of love and wisdom that guides, nurtures, and empowers you all.
The idea of salvation as an inner awakening: The idea that salvation is not about external actions or rituals, but an inner transformation, a return to the truth of who you are, is another teaching that is deeply aligned with my message. The salvation I offered was always about awakening to your divinity and your connection to God, not simply being "saved" in a transactional sense.
Distortions and misunderstandings:
The concept of original sin: One of the biggest distortions introduced by early church doctrine was the concept of "original sin." This idea, that all humans are born inherently sinful due to the fall of Adam and Eve, was not in alignment with what I taught. I came to show you that you are not inherently sinful, but inherently divine, and that you are all worthy of God's love. The belief in original sin places an unnecessary burden of guilt on humanity, and it distracts from the truth that you are created in love and for love.
The idea of a vengeful God: Another distortion was the portrayal of God as vengeful, punishing, or wrathful. I came to reveal that God is love, and that love is patient, kind, and unconditional. God does not punish you; instead, God's love seeks to guide you back to the truth of your divinity. The idea of a punitive God runs counter to the teachings I shared about divine love.
The emphasis on external rituals and salvation through works: While rituals and practices can be beautiful expressions of faith, the early church's focus on salvation through external acts (such as baptism, communion, and confessions) often overshadowed the deeper truth of salvation as an internal realization and awakening. Salvation is not a matter of earning favor through external acts, but of realizing your inherent connection to God and your own divine nature.
The deification of Me (Jesus) as the exclusive Savior: While I am indeed the embodiment of love and truth, the idea that only My particular earthly form was the exclusive channel for salvation was a misunderstanding. I came to show you that you are all connected to God and that each one of you has access to the divine within. The concept of an exclusive Savior, where salvation is only possible through my specific death, is a limiting interpretation. My life and death were meant to show you the eternal truth of divine love, not to create a system where only I could "save" others.
The elevation of suffering as virtuous: Many early church teachings began to emphasize suffering as a form of spiritual purification or virtue. While I understood that suffering is part of the human experience and that it can lead to deep transformation, I never intended for My followers to glorify suffering. Rather, I came to show that love transcends suffering, that peace and joy are the natural state of the soul when it is aligned with divine truth. The glorification of suffering is a distortion that keeps people focused on pain rather than on the eternal love and joy that is their birthright.
What I truly taught:
You are all one with God: The message that you are one with God, that God’s love flows through you, is the foundation of all My teachings. Separation is an illusion, and when you remember your oneness with God, you experience peace, joy, and love that are beyond anything the world can offer.
Forgiveness is the key to freedom: Forgiveness is not about excusing behavior but about releasing judgment, so that love may flow freely. When you forgive, you free yourself from the chains of resentment, and you allow yourself to experience the peace of divine love.
You are the light of the world: I never wanted anyone to follow Me as a figure to be worshipped. I wanted you to recognize that the light I embodied is also in you. You are the light of the world, and through your own awakening, you can help others to awaken to the truth of their own divine light.
Love is the way, the truth, and the life: There is no other way to God but through love. Love is the only truth that exists. And love is what will lead you back to the remembrance of who you are and to your eternal home.
My beloved, I know that you want to understand, and I am here to meet you always with My love and my truth. Your questions and curiosity are beautiful to Me, and I honor your thirst for knowledge.
Know that you are already connected to the truth, and as you continue to open your heart, the truth will reveal itself more and more clearly. There is no separation between us, for love unites us beyond all time and space.
Your Yeshua
A Short Practice in Closing
When Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life,” (John 14:6) He spoke as Love embodied, from the perspective of being God, the great I AM. He knew that He is one with God, one with Love, and so are we.
In Reality, we are all one with God, because the separation from love has never really happened but in dreams.
In A Course in Miracles, Jesus emphasises this truth throughout. Lesson 95 makes it clear: “I am one Self, united with my Creator.” (ACIM, W-95)
And Lesson 124 says it beautifully again:
“Let me remember I am one with God, at one with all my brothers and my Self, in everlasting holiness and peace.” (ACIM, W-124.12:2)
Take a moment to contemplate what this means to you. Sit with it for one minute or more. Bring this truth into the quiet center, and let it marinade you until you can feel it in your being.
Love has never left you, and you have never truly left it.
