So I took a Random "Social Attitude" Test Thingy, for shits and giggles and because I haven't used this thing for personal purposes in, oh, years. I got:

Radicalism 72
Socialism 68.75
Tenderness 59.375

These scores indicate that you are a moderate progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as left-wing.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an egalitarian with several strong opinions.

Apparently I'm the diet coke of left wingers, not quite leftie enough, but I swing a mean protest sign.

And this year's death toll for my high school graduating class has reached 2. We were a class of ~130. Seriously, two deaths in one year? WTF, class. Just WTF already.

I should have linked this last week. My bad. I keep forgetting that I have friends on LJ that don't move in these circles.

help_haiti is a community hosting a massive internet auction, all proceeds going to approved charitable organizations as determined by the winning bidders (if you're going to donate to UNICEF or Doctors Without Boarders, why not get stuff too?). There's still a day to list things or to bid on what's listed. My winning bids, if any, will go to DWB, and I'm already tapped to both write fic and extend beta services.

Ahh, fandom. Thank you for reminding me why I love you so.

DONE and DONE!

My humble offering is fic #494 to be posted to this year's Yuletide. And I got it in with 1:17:37:50 left to go. That's way better than last year, of which we will not speak, and the year before, when the time to spare was something like 7 minutes and change, or even the year before that when I got it in with maybe 5 hours left, I think.

Of course, it hasn't been beta'd yet. Beta has a copy, and sometime between when the archive's editing glitch has been patched and when the stories go live I'll get the beta'd version back and make whatever edits are required. But the fic is in and no matter what mother nature throws at us I no longer have to worry about it.

*squee*

That is all.

Apparently, as of LJ's next code push, not only gender will be a mandatory field at account creation, but they're also dropping it down to a binary male/female option. That's right, not only will you be forced to specify a gender, but you'll be also pigeonholed into either/or. This lovely bit of needless discrimination against the transgender & genderqueer community (likely) brought to you by the (alleged) need to have more specifically targeted ads.

ETA: That was beta code and will never go live

Thank you. That is all.

Over here at [info] toast_ofthetown.

1) Comment with your username and the fandoms you write for.
2) People will comment with positive comments and general squee for your fic
3) Go back and scroll through the list and leave comments for your favorite authors.

Of course, as of when I commented, there were 35 pages of comments (hinthint), so that's a lot of authors in a lot of fandoms you probably won't recognize, but what are memes if not amusing time-wasters?

Dear kink meme prompt response pre-Yuletide writing exercise,

Who the fuck told you to grow a plot? Or a plot whose linchpin requires a good 4 hours of poor man's research Wikipedia study? If I'd wanted to fic, I would have dusted off one of the umpteen WIPs I should be working on instead.

Also,

Dear widget behind the curtain muse,

In concept, writing exercises only work if you stick to the script! I'm not trying to subvert them, honest, so stop twisting my intent. How can I write effectively beyond my comfort zone for Yuletide, when it matters, if I can never manage to do so in practice where it means nothing?

Sincerely,
me

Ganked from inzilbeth_liz--

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So ask me something you want to know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

That was me, finally fully realizing what the weight of ~215k words worth of edits are going to feel like. And just in time for NaNo, too. *grumble-mumble-bitch-whine-mutter-mutter* Eep.
