The Obi-Wan Kenobi show has eaten my brain. This is where Tumblr as a format kind of sucks. There's no real community to speak of, only a string of blogs. Also it's not a great place for large blocks of texts. So I thought I'd ramble here a bit. BUT FIRST. I've done more fic. :D

Anyway, about the show:

Going into this show I already knew that it was never going to be enough for me. And now there's only one ep left and IT'S NOT GOING TO BE ENOUGH. Honestly it seems like there's so much to it yet that I'm not sure how they're going to wrap it all up in one episode.

I'm slightly disappointed that we've not seen Ahsoka or Cody. MAYBE SEASON 2? lol no I doubt there will be a season 2. This sounds like a one and done situation. This series has been very specifically focused on Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader's relationship, and if you start throwing other preexisting characters in it starts becoming something else. Leia is a preexisting character, but she highlights the whole Good Father/Bad Father thing that Obi-Wan and Vader have, so she fits in nicely. Luke would have fit as well, but I'm glad we got Leia. The franchise is very Luke-focused and we deserve more Leia content, damnit!

God, Vader takes Bad Father to the extreme. Vader's forever killing children over and over and over. There have been many things he's done wrong, but it's like his original sin. (Think back to the Tuskens in Attack of the Clones and how he killed the children.) And then he stabs Reva even after saying he knew she was one of the younglings and he can't stop killing children. Of course it all finally stops with Luke when he saves the child.

This show has definitely demonstrated just how tangled up in each other Obi-Wan and Vader/Anakin are. Everything in their lives are about each other. Even after everything Obi-Wan doesn't want to kill Vader, and I'm convinced that Vader doesn't actually want to kill Obi-Wan either. I'd have to watch all the eps again, but I don't think Vader has ever said words like "you're going to die now." It's always about pain. He rolls Obi-Wan around in fire, but then basically lets him go. In Revenge of the Sith, their battle was like "I have to try and kill you now because you have to try and kill me now." Obi-Wan would definitely yank Anakin back to the light if he could, and I'm pretttttty convinced that Vader would happily pull Obi-Wan to the dark. They are "complementary halves of a single warrior" that were torn in half and wishing they were whole.

Well, one more ep and it's likely to be a gut punch. We know none of the OT characters die here and everyone will go back to their reset positions for A New Hope, but somehow Obi-Wan needs to get to the mindset that nothing of Anakin is left. Like I said, gut punch.

Well at least they get to be Force Ghosts together eventually.

Burning Hate Winner

Hook/Emma. This is my number one most hated ship in all the land. If I could douse it in gas and torch it with a flamethrower, I would. The burning hate I have for this pairing is well beyond anything EVER.

Hook is your classic manpain prettyboy DOUCHEHOLE. Emma is in no way responsible to "fix" his slimy ass for any of the horrible things he's done (MURDER, ATTEMPTED MURDER, BEING A GENERAL SKEEVY PRICK). Just because he's "pretty," fandom fucking swoons over the asshole. (It's the Loki factor.) Ohhhhh but he's a poor wooooobie who just is misunderstood and neeeeeeeds love. FUCK THAT SO VERY MUCH.

*flips hair*

Anyway, I don't care who Emma winds up with (if anyone), just as long as it's not Hook. I would judge her writing and characterization so very much if she winds up with Hook. JUDGE JUDGEY JUDGE.

My very great rage of this is part of why I don't watch OUAT anymore. Fuck that show until Hook is gone.

DNW (and the Shippers are Weird) Winner

Sherlock/Molly. This one doesn't have the very great rage as above, basically because I like both the characters. Just not together. Now, I really liked them palling around in The Empty Hearse (for the most part - that whole "my type" thing was super awkward). But an actual romantic relationship is a horrible horrible idea that should never happen. The worst bit is that if it would for some reason happen on the show, it would be a super gross Moffatization of a relationship. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE.

NO, MOFFAT. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE A FEMALE CHARACTER IN THERE WHO SWOONS OVER YOUR "UNREACHABLE" MALE LEAD TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S NO HOMO. STOP WRITING THIS SAME STORY OVER AND OVER IN SHERLOCK AND DOCTOR WHO. IT'S REALLY GROSS.

My hypocritical nature on this all is that I do ship Sherlock/John. And the only explanation for this is: Male taking advantage of a woman and treating her like shit - cannot handle. Male taking advantage of a man and treating him like shit - eh. And just because Sherlock is now not as horrible to Molly as he once was does not mean that it's suddenly the basis for any sort of healthy or sane romantic relationship between the two of them. (Congrats! You're not as much of a dick as you could be! True love!)

The I Don't Care Winner

Every single ship in Harry Potter. After this past week's thing with JKR, I have been exposed to HP shipping. It's super clear that everyone has deeply ingrained head canons about all the characters, AND YOU DO NOT MESS WITH THAT. All I know is that Hermione is not some prize or something to validate Ron or Harry's existence. (Also lol Snape's pairings.)

My brother and his family are out right now for a late Christmas, and my 4-year-old and 2-year-old nephew and niece are oddly hilarious.

One of their favorite things is to look at people's travel photos. "Let's go look at grandpa and grandma's Alaskan cruise!"
The 4-year-old can read and write, but is sneaky about it. He much prefers other people to read and write stuff out for him, but will do it when people aren't paying attention.
2-year-old: She took a bite out of a cucumber. "It's like the moon! That's a simile." (Not "smile", simile.)
The 2-year-old is well on her way to becoming Legally Blonde. She's smart as anything, but everything needs to be PINK, and SPARKLES, and FLUFFY.
The're highly indifferent to the existence of other children. XD
The SIL is pregnant and the kids have already named it Rhinoceros Snow. And it's a Big Frickin Deal that this is the baby's name.

Other than that I really enjoyed the episode. The Magnussen plot was tense in ways the Moriarty plot never was. (BECAUSE IT'S A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CHARACTER.) Neat little things like the "dummy" in the empty house. (Which was a bit heartbreaking.) I was dubious going in because Moffat, but clearly he spent all his time on this instead of Doctor Who.

Mary was a shocking twist! I really wish she wasn't pregnant because she can definitely be part of the crime solving team! Well, once she has the baby maybe they can get a really good nanny. :D BUT OMG MARY. I mean, I was hoping before this series that I'd like her, but I had no idea that I'd LOVE HER LOTS. Former intelligence assassin? You go, Mary! XD I still think they all need to live together at Baker Street. Sherlockina would have so much to play with!

But Christmas at the Holmeses was just perfect and hilarious! Much of this ep (I wrote "fic" first lol) was hilarious, even with some of it being super angsty and tense. (Kudos to the writing team to having much more fun with it this series. It's sort of evolved a bit from S1 and S2, and I really like the direction they've taken it.)

I'm kind of laughing because I'm sure Moffat thought he was ending it on THE MOST SHOCKING CLIFFHANGER EVAR!!!!! BUT SURPRISE, I DON'T FUCKING CARE ABOUT MORIARTY SO TO ME THIS EPISODE ACTUALLY ENDED COMPLETELY RESOLVED. PTHTHTHTHTHTHT.

Well, this series should result in loads of lovely fic! I can't wait. (And need to set up some kind of filter that excludes Moriarty.)

P.S. A handshake at the end? Could you No Homo any harder?

But this one was great! I'm going to need to watch it again because there were so many moving parts. But things to love:

Sherlock vetting John and Mary's friends and scheduling social meetings. XD
Mary and Sherlock planning the wedding.
Mary being the one to try and get John and Sherlock to do stuff together.
The whole drunken thing with Sherlock and John, and it turns out they'd only been gone for 2 hours. LOL YUP. They're so in middle age already. XD
Sherlock accidentally saying just the right thing to make everyone cry.
Sherlock basically giving his own wedding vows to John and Mary (and baby).

See, now Mary and the baby have to live because Sherlock will make the most horrific uncle ever. "Want to see a decapitated nun?" :D

It's a new year

That really was SO MUCH FUN. :D I'll have to see how it stands up on multiple viewings but I think this was my favorite Gatiss-penned episode for either Sherlock or Doctor Who.

I'll do the couple of things I didn't care for first:

Not answering the question of how Sherlock did it. I'm not full of rage about it, it's just more of a SIGH. Because this is exactly the type of thing that Moffat & Co. likes to pull. And then they think they're so very clever when it's really just annoying. So all the fake-out explanations at first were interesting but by the end got tedious.
Crazy Anderson (Philip?) seemed sort of pointless. Maybe he was meant to be a fandom insert? Or maybe it was showing Anderson getting what he deserved? I mean some of it was entertaining, but it never went anywhere. (He was the guy who planted the fake body? Okay...)

But the rest was just plain happy-making!

John and Sherlock's spread-out reunion was great! John kept trying to strangle Sherlock - LOL!!
I already love Mary. :D (DON'T KILL HER OFF, PLEASE. D:) I loved that she was a bit of a fan of Sherlock and was the one to try to smooth things over between them. I also liked that she and Sherlock went off to rescue John.
I loved Molly's involvement as temporary sidekick. I really hope her fiance is not a bad guy because Molly deserves someone who is absolutely not a dick. (Sherlock/Molly is my notp)
Speaking of, I liked John being in Sherlock's head to the point of distraction. It makes their friendship not so one-sided to me. It's not all John needing Sherlock, but Sherlock really does need John.
Benedict's parents as Sherlock's parents! XD I am going to need a million fics now to explain how Mycroft and Sherlock came from those two. XD XD
The plot was alright - nothing stupendous or clever. But I didn't really need that when the focus of this episode was always going to be about the characters. The time flew by as I was watching, which is always a good sign.
Sherlock, you are such a dick with that bomb thing. It was obvious, but it made me chuckle. Because really, does anyone ever expect Sherlock not to be a manipulative asshole? XD

I've probably missed something I wanted to mention, but it's been a while since I've watched a show/episode that's just plain entertaining.

Doctor Who weekend has been survived! I still haven't watched The Day of the Doctor, nor am I terribly interested in doing so. Tumblr has provided me with enough gifs that I'm pretty sure I got the gist of it. :D

BUT! If you like Doctor Who and you haven't yet seen it, you MUST go and watch The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. (aka The Fish Doctor) FUNNIEST THING EVER. And honestly all I ever wanted in an anniversary show. Peter Davison is so funny, and after watching this I simply adore Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. :D (P.S. When did Paul McGann get so damn hot?)

I think I need to flounce from OUAT. So far this season it's had only one good ep - the one with Regina and Tinkerbell. The rest have been mediocre at best, and I don't know what the hell happened to their CGI budget. The Neverland plot is super annoying, and I want to kill Emma's love triangle story with fire and knives.

The thing that makes it even more super annoying is tumblr - I should just never ever ever wander into the tag. It's mostly fawning over Hook and/or Peter Pan - two characters I also want to kill with fire and knives. UGH.

I am seriously not surprised that the show is now only pulling 7 million as compared to the 11 million it was doing in S1 and the beginning of S2. (Ratings starting to tank with the introduction of Hook. Coincidence? I'll say not because I really hate Hook.)

In better news, have you seen the new promo pic for Sherlock S3? Because it looks like John/Sherlock fanart. Between this and the lens flair DW pics, you are so awesome, BBC promo dept. XD

Thumbs up for this ep! I just looked it up and it was written by Jane Espenson, so this makes a whole lot of sense.

I really enjoyed Regina and Tinkerbell's relationship. In what could have been downright silly, it was instead something super complex and rich. I really liked Regina in this ep. The whole "I'm damned. Don't be damned too." was pretty brilliant. Yay for Jane Espenson writing this!
Of course you could see that Robin Hood was Regina's True Love a mile off. Aaaaaaaaand there goes a lot of Regina-based ships in fandom. (Tumblr should be entertaining for the next couple of days.)
Speaking of, I loved the bit where Regina called Hook Emma's boyfriend, and Emma was all "wtf no" and Snow was "dude, she just lost Neal." It was almost a message to Hook/Emma fandom right there. XD (Not that anyone will pay attention. All they'll hear is "BOYFRIEND OMG".) I'm going to predict that Hook and Tinkerbell will ride off into the sunset eventually.
Mulan/Aurora! :( :( :( :( On the one hand I'm happy they sort of made that canon, but on the other hand, POOR MULAN. :( :( Philip is a drip and Aurora should run off with Mulan. But blah blah blah pregnant fairytale etc.
I'm quite happy Neal's in Neverland now. The dude's becoming more and more kickass.

TV Stuff

Sleepy Hollow: I have a problem. So far I LOVE Abbie. She is one of those rare 3D characters that appear once in a blue moon. The other characters are also pretty darn good. (Well...lol John Cho. What are your acting choices?) But the plot is just so so so incredibly silly. Last night when I was watching 1x02 I was playing on my computer most the time. I want to take all these characters and give them a new show. I'm not sure how long I'll hang in there.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The one ep I've seen so far has been pretty entertaining. I'd recommend giving it a try.
Downton Abbey: Man, I still haven't watched the Christmas ep. :D Maybe I'll catch up once it's all on Netflix. I'm just not super motivated to watch - I think the ultra ridiculousness of its storylines last season sort of killed my interest.
Once Upon a Time: The promos seem obsessed with Hook, and if that's how the show's going I probably won't stick with this one long either. Because while it's rare for me to have outright character hate for anyone, HOOK MAKES THAT CUT. OMG. He is the smarmy nails down the chalkboard of my soul. JUST GIVE ME CHARMING FAMILY BONDING, ALREADY.
I'm in the middle of a Star Trek TNG marathon. LOL this show. I'm not sure why anyone would bother with dangerous space travel when they have holodecks. Another thing - what do people do on the Bridge for the 99% of the time that they're not in battle or docking somewhere? I mean, a person on the Conn gets to push a button every 3 hours or so, so that's something to do. But what do the people in the Executive Chairs do? Do they have heart-to-hearts? Play word games? Gossip? I'm sad for them - their chairs aren't even recliners and I don't think they have cupholders.

I think I ship Spock/Uhura if only for the sake of their arguments. XD FUNNIEST EVER.
I love how the entire crew is basically "shut up, Kirk." XD
Cumber was really good. Khan is the nastiest piece of shit ever, but I think he made an interesting character out of him. He wasn't exactly sympathetic, but you could see where he was coming from. And it wasn't too sympathetic (e.g. Snape), but at the same time it wasn't the stereotypical insane villain either (BBC Moriarty or TOS Khan). It was all much more subtle and I've not seen a villain exactly like that before. Kudos to the writing and the acting.
That is probably the most crying in a Star Trek movie/episode ever. Every other scene someone's crying. MWAH.
I both liked and was frustrated by the round and round revenge cycle. I'm hoping that was the point - that the act of revenge will just spin and spin and never solve a thing.
I'm not quite sure why some die-hard fans thought this was the worst Star Trek thing to ever exist. I know some people were irked about the whole Khan race issue, but other than that this was a pretty good flick. Started a bit slow I guess, but other than that. Maybe because it twists every piece of TOS canon? Of course to me that's what a good AU does. Reimagined/rebooted things that just tell the same exact thing over and over don't typically hold much interest to me.

Of course, I'm a big fan of the new Marple stories as well - the ones that have re-written endings and entire stories from the originals. I know die-hard Agatha Christie fans pretty well hate the new Marple. I guess I just love it when you take from the old but make it into something new.
I had to laugh at a couple of Galaxy Quest type moments when it came to the ship. OH, YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY PUSH A BUTTON ON THE OTHER SIDE WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY FLIPPING A SWITCH IN A RADIOACTIVE SPACE? SLIGHT DESIGN FLAW, YES? XD

aj has written a fab meta about Tony/Pepper and their relationship from IM1 through IM3. (HEH. First typed "S1".)

And goldy_dollar is writing Tony/Pepper that includes Pepper and Natasha kicking ass. (Which IMO is the best possible type of IM fic imaginable.)

HOWEVER, she's not writing fast enough (blah blah blah "I may never finish"), so if anyone has any good newish Tony/Pepper recs, I'd love to have them! (I don't keep up with fics in this fandom, unlike the Sherlock AO3 page I check obsessively.)

Overall it was...okay. The parts about the murder were interesting, although it sort of just dissolved by the end. But the parts that rehashed Pride and Prejudice I found boring as anything. It read sort of like those meta fics that rehash episodes only to provide their slant on what happened. Not that I found anything in the book to be controversial, but I couldn't have cared less about all these motivations that supposedly happened six years ago. Nor did they really relate to what happened in the present day, no matter how much the author tried to shoehorn that in at the end.

The one thing good about making this into a miniseries is that presumably they'll need to focus on the murder mystery rather than the dreary internal monologues.

It will be interesting to see if they tweak the characters at all from the book. In it everyone is extremely passive, letting events wash over them. I kept expecting Darcy or Elizabeth to start investigating or doing something, but they pretty much trudged along.

I also wonder how Jenna Louise Coleman will do playing Lydia. In the book Lydia is very much one-note and extremely unsympathetic. And for some reason hates Elizabeth with a burning passion. (I do not remember this from P&P.)

So I guess to sum up, I enjoyed the mystery (while it was a mystery), but the characters not so much. The mystery could have been just as enjoyable with OCs (and would have basically lost nothing), but I suppose it wouldn't have gotten the publicity it did with these characters. Well, it is basically well-written fanfic.

I'm actually impressed! I'm happy they're going with someone older this round, and from the roles I've seen him in he's a hell of an actor. Sadly the writing team won't be changing, which means it could be just as much of a mess as S6 and S7 were.

But the real question is if there will be as many Twelve/Rose manips. XD

The Veronica Mars movie looks good!
Catching Fire looks good!
Matt Smith is capable of being a gross dudebro.
Shippers are predictable when TPTB say that a fanon ship has no basis in reality. (HOW VERY DARE YOU. YOU'VE DISRESPECTED US. YOU'RE SO HOMOPHOBIC.)
But casts can be super adorable.
And I approve of info learned about Sherlock S3. Well, except for the "cliffhanger" part. Ugh. IT'S SHERLOCK HOLMES AND YOU SHOULD BE TELLING STAND-ALONE MYSTERIES. YOU DO NOT NEED CLIFFHANGERS. IMAGINE MISS MARPLE WITH CLIFFHANGERS. YOU CAN'T BECAUSE IT'S STUPID. YOU'VE USED UP THE ONE CLIFFHANGER YOU SHOULD EVER DO IN SHERLOCK HOLMES STORIES.

Also, I'm not too fussed about John getting married. 1) I love that Amanda Abbington is playing her and hope she'll be as awesome as movie Mary. 2) I fully intend to keep reading John/Sherlock fic. XD (Although I'll be avoiding the super angsty Mary-bashing fics, thanks. AUs are always good.)

UGH. WHEREIN EVERYONE ACTS LIKE A MORON. 105% of the problems in this book were due to everyone suddenly dropping 50 IQ points.

I understand that the next books are better, so I'm hopeful, but this one. UGH. The melodrama of OMG RAMSES HAS A DAUGHTER, BUT NO SHE'S NOT HIS DAUGHTER AND BECAUSE NO ONE BOTHERED TO EXPLAIN IT TO NEFRET SHE HARES OFF AND MARRIES A MURDERER. AND MEANWHILE NO ONE BOTHERS TO CLUE IN DAVID ABOUT THE WHOLE FORGERY THING, AND AMELIA AND EMERSON ARE PRETTY MUCH LALALA WHATEVER ABOUT EVERYTHING BECAUSE NO ONE IS CAPABLE OF ACTING LIKE AN ADULT IN THIS STORY...

I really like Elizabeth Peters' stories for the most part, but when she goes off on that rare melodrama tangent I want to toss the book out the window. Fortunately she's really only done that kind of crap one other time - when Amelia was kidnapped by Sethos so he could proclaim his TRUE LOVE to her.

I'm not sure if Peters writes drunk every once in a while or what. XD
