Hi! My name is Moritz and I am about to start my PhD. An incoming CLS fellow, I am co-advised by Bernhard Schölkopf and Gunnar Rätsch. Before, I completed my undergraduate studies in Mannheim spending a semester each at Harvard and NTU Singapore. Afterwards, I started my Master’s in Statistics at ETH Zurich. There, I have been particularly interested in theoretical statistics and the statistical foundations of machine learning.

I pursued my Master’s thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen. Next to Bernhard, Siyuan Guo and Jonas Peters have been co-advising this project. Published at NeurIPS 2025, I researched in-context counterfactual reasoning in Transformers.

Going forward, I intend to work on causality in foundation models with a particular focus on health care applications.

You can find my current curriculum vitae here.
