Apostle winks at the “natural edge" table and clearly announces its maker’s mark and mind. Stacked slabs, carved incessantly, jut into space like a weather-beaten coastal cliffside. A ball gouge mimics the natural elements, standing in for rock-corroding wind and waves. As in erosion, the work is accomplished through endlessly repeated action.

Executed in walnut, maple, and brass, Harmika draws inspiration from the Buddhist practice of stupa-building. This information can be taken or it can be left. Her eight stepped ziggurat represents the Noble Eightfold Path, the four legs the Four Noble Truths, and her Double Vajra-like lamp the Tree of Life connecting heaven and earth. Although this item is not fully custom, different dimensions and materials can be requested.

Portal's intricate wooden patterning emerges undulating from an epoxy soup. Always made with a found or given door as a slab base, Portal rests somewhere between an interdimensional entryway and an attentive support. Its multitudinous feet are reminiscent of a rug's tassles, yet are made from collected pewter bowls, plates, cups melted and recast. Portal is an exercise in shapeshifting, in transformation.

Mississippi is a product of historical noise. Stacked molding holds and reveals years of repainted rooms, renovations, changing tastes. These histories are subdued and transformed into layers of colored static adorning weighty architectures, resting places for your precious things. Dreams of Mississippian ceremonies atop massive mounds of earth buoy your fingers as you select your jewelry for the day.
The dresser pictured features collaborative sculptural work with Cassie Works. Jewelry and hand modeling provided by Cassidy Snider.

Soft granite shelves lay like rectangular tongues inside Kennel's cage of chain link. Turbo dogs, barking, running back and forth are summoned opening the creaking gate door. The groaned reminder of cracked city sidewalks, metallic limits tucked within masses of growth.

Piranesi's clean lines of cabinetry are engulfed by an energetic ruination, a new and active ordering of its form. This entropic force at once interrupts and holds, boiling scagliola and broken balusters becoming structure and support once more. Ruin is its own language: gravity, water and exuberant life’s never-ending conversation. Piranesi is part of an ongoing experiment translating the logics of ruin into a design language.

Laminar contains multitudes: drips, tips, and lines. A delicately tensioned structure dripping with translucent color. Hand-applied epoxy is allowed to be as it is, fluid suspended in space. Lathe-turned wooden accents anchor a body veering toward amorphous, and offer an organic counterpoint. Look at natural and synthetic playing nice.

Mound is a design and fabrication house, born in a global pandemic and designing with end-times flair. We concern ourselves with Post-Lifestyle design: objects blind to feeble trends and bottomless pit consumption. To those early modernist shamans, who said design can better someone’s life and nourish the interior self, we listened and learned.
Mound designs for the tomb-set society, those discerning old souls who suspect “new” was invented to sell shoes and cereal. Mound is a skull stretched across the periphery of your living room. Mound produces grave goods you can live with.
Mound is based in Richmond VA on Powhatan land. To discuss customization potentials or commission work, please email.
