I marathoned the second series and I'm just going back now and watching all of series one. WHY SO GOOD, SHOW? Laurie is pretty much my favorite character, but they're all kind of amazing. IT'S BECOME MY COCAINE!!

Mad Men's back as well folks. Not sure how I feel about this season yet, but I always feel that way then it ends and I fall apart because I don't have it in my life anymore. FAT!BETTY is not my favorite thing in the world, but I get where they were going with that.

I've been watching a shit ton of movies as well. Watched 'Like Crazy' today which was cute, but idk there's something about Jennifer Lawrence that just makes me like all of her characters much more than anybody else in the film? It felt like she was in it for all of two seconds but it was the best two seconds of foreverrr. Just not feelin' it, Felicity Jones. (I take it back, I was totally feeling it until Sex-Hair-JLaw comes stumbling out, then I wasn't).

Also 'Meeks Cutoff' was surprisingly good. It was super slow but really, really engaging. It's kind of like the antithesis of all the movies that are coming out at the moment, so it was nice.

Immensely interesting post, I imagine... ;P

Hm. Who knows.

Anyway, so I figured I should update? Can't remember when I last did so, so here it goes.

Just got back from NYC, had a two and a half week trip there to basically get drunk, smoke a lot and have some sex. Does that border on being tmi? Eh. Anyway, in that regard it worked out quite well :P The Good

Porgy and Bess - I know that there was a whole lot of outrage about this particular adaptation of it, and I've listened to the older scores etc, but to be honest this was my favorite show. So much so that I forked out $150 twice to see it. Can I just say, AUDRA MCDONALD? Why has this woman never entered my life before??? SHE WAS FLAWLESS AND IT IS MY NEW LIFE GOAL TO LISTEN TO EVERYTHING (pretty much done) AND SEE EVERYTHING THAT SHE HAS EVER DONE EVER. Would I have enjoyed it as much had it been somebody else in that lead role? Probably not. But thankfully I didn't have to face that option. Orchestration was amazing. Costumes (which were apparently designed by one of the ANTM contestants from cycle 7) were amazing. Overall production value was amazing. Let's just say I'm looking forward to the cast album that drops early May.

Anything Goes - So here's something that a lot of you folks probably don't know, but I am a massive Sutton Foster fan (so the thought of her headlining a series for ABC is thrilling!). Anyway, I saw this one twice as well, the first was a 21st present from my folks and the second was all me. This show. Seriously. I'd already listened to the OBC recording like 7 trillion times, but to see it live was amazing. THE CHOREOGRAPHY! OMG. And Sutton. Oh Sutton. You are the light of my life, woman.

On a side note, I met Joel Grey (who's also in it) a couple of nights before I went to see it at the Metropolitan Club. A friend of mine put me onto it and the guy that was launching his album that night plays the Purser in the show, so the night my mate and I went to see it Joel grey was just like, sitting 5 feet away from us. My friend had no idea who he was, and so when I went all weird and fangirl on him he was like, ready to disown me. Then we saw the show and he understood. But anyway, that was cool. Apparently Sutton Foster went to the Met Club the night previous but we obviously weren't there... forever kicking myself.

Other Desert Cities - old flisters will understand my complete adoration in regards to Stockard Channing, and she definitely DID NOT DISAPPOINT! She was glorious. The script was glorious! I bought the script about a week later and it reads just as well on page as it does performed, which is rare and completely delightful. Beautiful production. John Robin Baitz is probably my favorite contemporary playwright/screenwriter and he did not disappoint. At. All.

Death of a Salesman - Phillip Seymore Hoffman. Andrew Garfield. Linda Emond. PERFECTION. I still can not get over HOW GOOD Phillip Seymore Hoffman was in this. Andrew Garfield (who I don't feel particularly for or against) surprised me with how good he was at playing Biff. Goddamn. Of course it's an amazing play - and I've seen it about 7000 times before - but this was by far the most gut wrenching. I put it all down to Hoffman and his ability to carry an entire audience with him. Like seriously, that man is amazing. The sets weren't out of this world, which was disappointing because there are fun things that you can do for that play, but overall it was impeccable.

Venus In Fur - Nina Arianda. FUCK. Incredibly written/directed. I'm not sure how I felt about Hugh Dancy but all I have to say is NINA ARIANDA BE IN MY LIFE ALL. THE. TIME. Seriously have not been able to process this yet, and it's been over a week since I saw it, but it was just perfection. Might have a better comment once I've ordered the manuscript, recieved the manuscript and read it without Nina Arianda and her glorious face/being.

Godspell - Ugh. By far the best ensemble that I saw. All of them were glorious. And in 'Turn Back, O Man' I got felt up by the girl singing it, which made me happy :P

The Rest of Them
Stick Fly - I'll be honest, the only reason I saw this was to see Joanne from Rent (the movie, don't judge) make out with Charlie from the West Wing. So far as the play was concerned, I think the most fun was hearing the crowd's reactions (it was the end of the run so cheap tickets, and I was the only white person in the theatre). But yeah. Tracie Thoms is pretty good. I like her.
Rent - Great musical. Terrible production.
Seminar - Alan Rickman = genius, god, etc etc etc. He was fabulous. I loved the actress that played 'Kate' as well but have no idea what her name was. Pretty funny. Definitely speaks to the overeducated, which I enjoyed :P
Wit - I'd only ever seen Cynthia Nixon in SATC but she did amazingly well in this! I think this is a glorious play, seriously fabulous. The writing is sublime.
How to Succeed (with Nick Jonas) - Idk. I heard rave reviews about this and then was a little disappointed. Best thing about this show was that I was in the front row... Nick Jonas is pretty good on stage though - I saw him in Les Mis and he was good. He was good in this as well. Pity he's a Jonas brother.
The Road to Mecca - Not all too bad. I love the writer of this (literally have his anthology that has been read many times), but idk. It wasn't bad by any means but it wasn't exactly great either. I blame the directing/sets tbh. Carla Gugino is sexy as fuck and can act as well which trust me, I was the most surprised by. The others were good too but Carla Gugino just lights up the stage.
Phantom - I'm probably not the best to comment on this seeing as it was an 8.00 show and I'd gotten half an hours worth of sleep the night before, so I might have been drifting off to sleep...? I love this show though, and it was a pity that they had the understudy Christine on because she didn't quite hit those notes...

I'm pretty sure I've forgotten something, but yeah, I watched a lot of theater

What else is happening? Am doing honours this year, which basically means that I have to write a mini-thesis (not as big as PhD, but still substantial). Still figuring out what the hell to do for that. I'm also in the midst of writing a play (hence the copious amounts of money spent on theater tickets), so that should be done hopefully by the middle of the year... hopefully.

Aside from that, not much else is happening. What's up with you flisters?

I GOT MY LAPTOP BACK, YAY. I also have a load of work to do for ye old university, but I can't be bothered at present. Would prefer to post something here, make some icons, etc.

aka. procrastination, but whatever. I've suddenly got the urge to share a whole bunch of fandom opinions, so here we go :D

Glee. So I know that there's a lot of people out there who don't like it this season, but I'm not one of them. The thing that I love about Glee is that it's just mindless, enjoyable television, and it's fun. So there. While I'm on the topic of unpopular opinions, I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS, I DON'T SHIP KURT/BLAINE. Actually, Kurt's just been a bit annoying this season. I don't know why, but last season I loved his character, yet this season he's just... unlikeable (hypocrite here... I am Betty Draper's no. 1 fan). Anyway, that's that.

On the other hand, I love love love Sam. It's ridiculous how quickly Sam/Quinn became my otp on this show. I used to be in love with Puck/Quinn, but that basically got thrown out the window as soon as their whole courtship started. I'm digging the fact that Quinn's actually had some lines this season as well. The fight with her and Santana in one of the early eps is still one of my favorite bits of this season. AND LOL WHAT THEY GAVE SAM/QUINN THE DUET AT SECTIONALS? Awesome. Sure, she's not as good a singer as Lea Michele, but Dianna A. kinda rocked it. Just sayin'. What else? I love Mike Chang, Artie, BRITTANY!!!!!!!!! and I kinda miss Finchel. Puck is badass and hot as usual. Basically, I still love this show.

What I'm watching at present:
The Good Wife - got into this just before my computer died and I'm fully caught up now. I love love love it. Last week's, where all of the tension between the partners just went up that extra notch and GOD I'M EXCITED FOR THIS WEEK. I honestly don't think that Alicia will go with Will.. don't ask why. I can see dramazzz though. And Cary is hot. just sayin'

The Walking Dead - 3 episodes behind, but so far I'm loving this. Who wouldn't love a zombie apocalypse show? From what I hear, there's also heaps of fun stuff coming up... so that's cool. I like this show - and the guy from Love Actually is in it. :D

Downton Abbey - not sure if I ever posted about this show, but IT IS AMAZING. I don't even know how to describe it... Mary/Matthew was amazing. That whole last episode was amazing actually. Very sad, but good. The best bit about this show is that I got to write about it in one of my essays... very enjoyable stuff. And Maggie Smith? HBIC.

What else? Loving Modern Family, COMMUNITY, parenthood... have started cracking into Fringe so hopefully I can get caught up by Christmas. Don't think there's much else I'm watching... what should I be watching?

THE SOCIAL NETWORK. LOVED IT. LOVED IT. LOVED IT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE I WANT YOUR BABIES, BUT I WANT ANDREW GARFIELD'S MORE KK? Farrrrr out. Jesse Eisenberg was incredible as well. His character was so unlikeable, but so likeable because of that. And I know there was a lot of criticism about the lack of females in this or something, but I really don't think that was a massive deal. Because I only saw it yesterday, I'm still in the ADALKFHSASJHSAJKASJGJAKSGFJSA mode.. mainly because of Andrew Garfield's face. yeah... on the bandwagon.

Speaking of Andrew Garfield, Never Let Me Go anybody? Incredible. I cried and cried and cried. Those three, Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan really worked well with each other. Very very good group effort. Digging it.

What else? Harry Potter was incredible, no? Incredible seems to be my word today. Looking forward to the next one. I'm also looking forward to Black Swan (!!!!!!!), Rabbit Hole and The King's Speech.

So now, after all that, I'm thinking it's time to get caught up on that advent calender.

Let's do a meme, because I'm bored.

1. Ask and I'll assign you the basis of some show/movie idea. (pick which one you'd like)
2. Create the characters you need, including the actors who'd play them. Photos optional but recommended.
3. Come up with a general synopsis of the premise.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU WRITE A FIC OR SOMETHING TO GO WITH IT, BECAUSE I'M IN THAT KIND OF MOOD. :D
(an oldie but a goodie)

In other news, I got a promotion at work. eh. It's alright. I am now officially a supervisor :P Exciting stuff.

What else? Most of my friends are at uni full time, but because I'm going to London this semester I don't have classes til I go (5 weeks!!!!!!!), therefore my days are spent either working, photoshopping, or rewatching random eps of Mad Men. The photoshopping is mainly mad men related as well. That's all procrastinating for things that I actually have to do, like finish the color grade on my film, write the next one... actually, I'm in a writing mood right now. Might be the wine talking. idk. AM LOOKING FOR SOME NEW MUSIC, SO IF YOU'VE GOT ANY RECS, LEMME KNOW.

<s>and I've had a bit too much wine this evening and am craving a cigarette something bad.</s> Smoking is bad for you, kids. <s>she says as she lights up</s>

idk.
True blood: lulz @ eric/sookie. I don't know why. It was kind of too sexy for words though... Watching Season 2 and Season 3 consecutively.. so I might make more detailed reaction posts once I'm caught up.

now, on to the main topic of coversation. MAD MEN. Is it just me, or is Don just constantly punishing himself this season. In 1-3, he was so so SO self absorbed, but this season it's like he's constantly thinking about Betty and/or how badly he can beat himself up to deal with it WHICH IS FANTASTIC TV. Seriously, I love it, and Jon Hamm plays it so well. ANYBODY ELSE NOTICE THE 'NO, HERE' -- LIKE HE SAID TO BETTY IN S2? (I think it was S2). HE WANTS THESE WOMEN TO BE HER.

Hm, what else? The lack of Betty made me sad. I've noticed (mainly from reading reaction posts) that I'm in the Betty-loving minority. Ah well. More for me. I missed Peggy and Pete this episode too.

LANE IS AMAZING. I WANT HIM TO WATCH MOVIES WITH ME ALL THE TIME. I've always liked Lane, and I kind of figure that this episode was his unofficial initiation into the Man Men crew. I'm expecting a lot more of him in the future. I especially liked the bit where he teamed up with Joan when she fired his secretary. Jesus... they come and go so quickly in this show :P

Speaking of Joan, THIS EPISODE WAS PERFECT FOR ME IN TERMS OF HER CHARACTER. IT HAD HOUSEWIFE!JOAN AAAANNNNDDD OFFICE!JOAN. Basically I loved when she walked into Lane's office the second time and told him off. HELLS YEAH.

The dramazzzz with Anna made me sad. Idk. I guess I like her, and that whole storyline is interesting, but it's not my favorite part of this show.

is it just me, or is anybody else missing the actual work? I want to see them shooting around ideas and stuff. SHOW ME THE MONEY, PEOPLE.

Overall though, good ep.

Rewatched 4x01 and 4x02 after my last capslocking post so that I could actually write a decent post about it.

First of all, I'll be damned if Don and Betty don't get back together at the end of this season. My opinion on the whole Betty/Henry situation? He's going through a mid-life crisis, and she's lashing out against Don. It makes sense, because thus far he hasn't seen that whole ~other side of Betty (either that or he chooses to ignore it, like when she takes Sally out of the Thanksgiving dinner). And she's lashing out at Don for the whole Dick Whitman thing. I still think that Betty and Henry have no chemistry at all, and honestly, I think that the kids will bring them back together.

Speaking of the kids, I get the feeling that Sally Draper is just about to go off the rails. idk, Am I the only one that thinks that? Am totally loving Glen/Sally as well :D makes me laugh. I still think that Glen is a creepy little guy though. Somehow I think that he'll end up making Sally do bad, bad things. lol.

SPEAKING OF THE KIDS, THEY'VE ALL GROWN UP.

New offices -- don't like them as much as the offices in s1-3, but I'll get over it. Loving the new, confident Peggy, and am also liking Pete a lot more this season. I still don't like them together though. And as wierd as it is, I liked Peggy with Duck, not the new guy. whatevs.

So glad that Joan is back in the office, and that whole Christmas party bit in 4x02 where she's sexy and everything IS WHAT THE SHOW NEEDED. Am looking forward to seeing more housewife!Joan, because even though I missed office!Joan last season, housewife!Joan is this fantastic other side to her. Liking that she's got her own office now as well. Tres bien.

What else? I've got a bad feeling about Sterling's future. Don't like the Lucky Strike guy - never did, but especially now. I kind of miss Ken, but liking Pete kind of makes up for it. And I miss the two guys from s3, the European one and the other one. I hope that they make a reappearance. Am also missing the excitement of the job that was so prevalent in the first 3 series'. I guess because the firm is still new and whatever, it'll take a while to build up to it, but their creative meetings where they just whammed out ideas and stuff were such a highlight. Hope they return soon.

All in all, LOVING IT. I don't think I've mentioned how much I still love this show in this post. I LOVE IT.

TIM BURTON

i'd never really been a big fan of tim burton until this year. after i saw sweeney
todd, which i loved, i went on to rent out all of his films and now i can say that
he is by far my fave film director. that's why he makes number 10, just for the
pure awesomeness of his movies.

9. GUILLAUME CANET

another person that i discovered this year was guillaume canet. at first i thought
he was just to good looking arm candy of marion cotillard, but now that i've seen
a couple of his films i've discovered that not only is he INCREDIBLY attractive,
but he's also majorly talented.

8. CATE BLANCHETT

cate's always been one of my fave actresses, and this year with i'm not there,
indiana jones and benjamin button she blew me away again. hometown pride.

7. JOHNNY DEPP

like cate, johnny has always been up there. i mean, just LOOK at the guy! can't
wait for public enemies next year!

6. JAMES DEAN

i never understood the fuss about james dean... until i saw his films, and took
a good look at him. okay, you've got to admit, they guy was very very attractive!
haha. i saw all three of his films this year, and now i know what all the fuss is
about. (:

5. HELENA BONHAM CARTER

i love her wierdness. haha, i know that might sound funny, but i think it's great
that she just wears what she wants and doesn't care about what other people
think of her. i commend her for that! plus, i've also come to realize that she's a
pretty good actress.

4. LEONARDO DICAPRIO

LEONARDO DICAPRIO IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. PERIOD. he's incredible.

3. KATE WINSLET

kate winslet has always been one of my favorite actresses, but for some reason
i've come to enjoy her work a lot more this year. i think she's incredibly talented,
and on top of that she seems so real.

2. HEATH LEDGER

this was, by far, the biggest tragedy of this year. i've been a fan of heath for a
long, long, long time now (anybody remember when he was on home + away?)
and i was so sad when i heard about his death. in the dark knight he once again
gave a fantastic performance, and it's such a pity that the world won't get to see
more of him.

1. MARION COTILLARD

i had no idea who she was until she won an oscar, after which i decided to watch
la vie en rose to see what all the fuss was about. I WAS SHELL SHOCKED. after
watching her in that film, i'm convinced that she is the most talented actress in the
world. you thought heath ledger was good in the dark knight - you haven't seen
nothing if you haven't seen marion in la vie en rose. anyway, she is officially the
top of my list, because she's gorgeous, talented and, well... french.

FAVORITE FILMS
no commentary on these ones, sorry!

10.
WHOA. Okay, it's been a long time since I posted last, but basically all of this award fever has me all caught up! Here's what I'm betting on:

My prediction is... A REVOLUTIONARY ROAD SWEEP! Yeah, I've thought long and hard, and I think that it's got a good chance of taking out all the big ones.

Best Picture (Drama): REVOLUTIONARY ROAD! Yeah, I hope this movie cleans up. I'm probably biased. Benjamin Button has a strong chance I think, but I'd love to

Best Actor (Drama): Leo! Well, the film hasn't come out yet, but from the clips that I've seen he looks really good (both physically and in terms of his acting), and I really think it's about time he did a sweep of all the big awards, don't you? So deserving, hope he gets it. If he doesn't get it, my second bet is on Mickey Rourke, because from what I'm hearing the Wrestler is pretty damn good. If Brad Pitt gets it instead of Leo, I might actually start crying.

Best actress (Drama): This, for me, is a face off between two fantastic actresses - Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep. I really, really, really want Kate to get it because I'm so sick of her losing! Seriously, like Leo, she deserves a sweep. That being said, Meryl looks great in Doubt, and so it's really in the air with this one. I was suprised that Anne Hathaway got nominated... the trailer shows a little bit too much over-acting for my liking, but oh well.

Best Picture (Comedy/Musical): Jesus.. I have no idea with this one. In Bruges was funny as hell, Mamma Mia was pretty huge, but then again I think that Vicky Christina Barcelona has a good shot too. I didn't see Burn After Reading but now I kinda wish I had... so yeah, not sure about this.

Best Actor (Comedy/Musical): Give it to Javier, purely on his sexiness. Lol. I think it's between Javier and the boys from In Bruges, but again, I'm not too sure.

Best Actress (Comedy/Musical): Meryl Streep. I don't think she's got much competition. I would love to see Rebecca Hall pick it up for Vicky Christina Barcelona, but c'mon, Meryl's gotta win something.

Best Supporting Actor: HEATH LEDGER. THERE CAN BE NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. HIS PERFORMANCE WAS INCREDIBLE, AND I CAN'T THINK OF HOW ANYBODY COULD TOP THAT. I would have liked to see Brandon Walters (is that his name?) from Australia, because I thought that he was fantastic too... but oh well. Lol at Tom Cruise, by the way.

Best Supporting Actress: I think that Amy Adams looks really good in Doubt, or Marisa Tomei for The Wrestler, but of course, Kate Winslet is my second favorite actress (behind Marion, who owns my soul) so I hope she gets it. I just want her to get one of the two that she's nominated for, alright? Lol. WHY WASN'T CATE BLANCHETT NOMINATED??!!??!!

Best Director: Sam Mendes. He's got the midas touch when it comes to making films, so give it to him for God's sake.

And the other categories? Well, I don't know about them. Who knew Clint Eastwood was musical though...?

I went to see twilight this past week, and it was alright. Robert Pattinson is gorgeous, but it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen. Eh. The attractiveness of the cast was enough to sustain my interest.. so I'll probably keep iconing them.

Found some good pictures over the past week from different events and whatnot and I figured I should share. Under the cut:

How come nobody told me about David Kross before?! Look at that lovely looking boy! He plays opposite Kate Winslet in The Reader... and damn he's fine.

Yeah.. I don't know about you, but I'm looking at him. Kate Winslet looks more tanned than usual... :P

OMGWOW.
Alright, first of all, let me say, the trailer for Revolutionary Road gaves me chills. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, it's below the cut: WATCH IT. It's Sam Mendes, Leo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet at their best.

Second of all, in my searches on youtube, I found a funny video about In Bruges.

WARNING: PURE AWESOMENESS!
<lj-embed id="1" />

WARNING: Lots of swearing in this one.
<lj-embed id="2" />

Whoa... I graduated from high school. How scary is that?

The graduation thing was on Thursday, but I haven't really had much free time on my hands before now.

At the awards ceremony, I got a lot more than expected: 4 for water polo, 1 for contribution to the liturgical life of the college (wtf?) and another one for orchestra. Then, to top it all off, I got the Paula Dawson award for the best artwork thing, which was amazing!

I also found out the other day that a girl who used to be my friend, X, we'll call her, has decided to have her own pre-formal drinks, and has invited everybody in my group but me and my best friend Chris.

I suppose I'll have to wait until the 17th to see who my real friends are.

Wow, the first personal entry in ages.

Aaaages.

Okay, so basically, my major work for Visual Arts is due on Monday. It's a film - an appropriation of Julius Caesar by good ol' Willie Shakes. So, a whole year's worth of work will be finished on Monday.

How scary.

So anyway, my teacher wanted me to mock up a poster and a DVD cover. Here's a small version of the poster:

Just imagine seeing that in full movie poster size just before walking into a dark room.

Sinister? Hopefully.

Maybe I'll post the DVD cover up when i'm done with it. Maybe not.

Either way, it's kinda exciting.
