An Announcement…
Perhaps it’s time…
The first time I met Ghost I was seven, nestled in between my father and grandfather in the front seat of the truck. We were crawling along a Miami street in rush hour, en route to a restaurant. I can’t forget it. Ghost became a consistent, if not constant, companion from that point forward.

I turned 30 at the beginning of February.
As my birthday approached, I promised myself to open paid subscriptions as a means of “taking myself seriously.”
It’s now more than a full month past my birthday, and still I hesitate.
No more, though.
Here’s what I need to explain:
Maryann and the bulk of my short fiction will remain free. If that’s all you needed to know, now you know it.
As for a paid subscription?
*More experimental fiction, including a bizarre little slasher novella and “scenes from a graveyard” which will be pieces that I abandoned for one reason or another
* More personal writing such as poems and vignettes exploring my depersonalized/dissociative episodes.
* “Newsletter” addressing my process or inspiration behind current writing projects (including off-substack endeavors), other hobbies, and more “slice of life” stuff
* potentially some other occasional things like recordings and the ability to prompt me (though with 4 kids I can’t make a promise this will be more than maybe once a quarter)
If this is something you’re interested in, I’m opening paid to $5/mo and $50/annual.
I couldn’t make it less than $5, so if that’s not your budget and you want to pay less, I do have a ko-fi below:
Thank you all for reading! I’m astounded that this many people care to read what I’ve written and actually seem to enjoy it! You have shared such kind words and thoughts with me, as well as your own writing which has been such a joy to read.
Truly and dearly,
Thank you.
Had someone told me that Emmett Otto was a time traveler, I would have believed it. If someone had told me he was a skinwalker, a shapeshifter, or any other of the enumerate cryptids of legend and lore, I similarly would have believed it. Truly, I would have been hard-pressed to find evidence to the contrary.
