I am finally watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal! Thoughts thus far:

1. Despite the fact that I'm almost through ep. 3 and I'm enjoying it immensely, I do wish they'd explain some of the characters better. Who on earth is Ha In Soo exactly and why does he look like he's about to have an aneurysm at any moment?
2. I can't decide if all these "put the cross-dressing girl in sexually charged situations" is intended to be as homoerotic as it comes across on screen. I get the "oh no I have two male roommates" thing, but wtf is this "hazing via stripping in public" nonsense? (Sidenote: Gu Yong Hwa is obviously gay and he is HILARIOUS, I love him. XD)
3. Why is Sungkyunkwan so hard to spell?!

I realize now that I am woefully uninformed about recent Japanese dramas because I've been watching/trying to keep up with a lot of Korean dramas and I miss them. The last Japanese dramas I liked were Ryusei no Kizuna and VOICE and both of those aired AGES ago so clearly I am totally out of the loop. Any suggestions? I haven't even watched Bloody Monday 2 although the first season was very silly (but very pretty, which has to count for something. XD)

1. WTF RAIN GET OUT OF THIS VIDEO. Your boys can do their own shower scenes, c'mon now. (Not that I have anything against Rain being half-naked, but I think it's in bad taste to do this kind of thing for your own group. Is he afraid that they don't have sex appeal even though they're not marketed as such? MIXED SIGNALS, RAIN, DNW.)
2. Eww neon.
3. THUNDER DOESN'T LOOK BAD! I'm amazed, guys, normally he looks 100% puppy to me and he actually looks....idol-like in this teaser? The sky must be falling.
4. GO looks so much better without the facial hair - more idol and less sleazy-old-man-who-hangs-out-on-street-corners. But why does he have 70% of the close-ups in this teaser?
5. Poor Mir has terrible close-ups, none of them really show his face. XD

So I said I wasn't going to get into any more boybands, right? And then I started watching MBLAQ's Idol Army episodes and I find that the production crew has fondly named these boys "the village idiot-idols" and omg they're hilarious. XD I even watched the first 2-3 episodes of their Art of Seduction show (I can't remember where I stopped but it was their first show so it was SUPER AWKWARD and I didn't feel like finishing it) and you can see Rain telling them to be all cool and charismatic like him, and the boys all nod very solemnly and then once Rain is gone they continue to act like retarded teenage boys, it's glorious. I still don't really like their music (omg what is it with me and liking pop groups only for their variety show appearances) but they are having a comeback soon and the concept photos look pretty good ~~aka just like Rain!~~ so maybe it won't suck!

In other news, Hyori is still the Queen, haters to the left. XD

Currently watching:
-Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (a lot of shoujo nonsense but packaged in a wonderfully ridiculous way and the acting's pretty good, shock/awe/horror/etc.! Only subbed through ep. 5 so far - I could watch on mysoju but Vikii has been giving me a lot of trouble and I hate the quality of the video/subs on Vikii too. I DO NOT NEED YOUR EXTRA "omg he's so cute <333!!!1!!111!" OKAY, VOLUNTEER SUBBER, OR YOUR CRAPPY TRANSLATIONS. Ugh.)
-Ando Natsu (only subbed through ep. 6 so far; cute and has lots of adorable wagashi in it but the lead actress is not that good. The main supporting cast has been excellent though and the whole drama REALLY makes me want to live in Asakusa XD)
-Meitantei no Okite (stopped after ep. 4 and picking it back up again, only the last 2 eps have never been subbed)
-Tokyo DOGS (may not finish because the over-acting just kills me. Why you would get that good of a cast - insofar as the leads, anyway - and then make them act badly is beyond me.)

I only really want to watch the first 3, BUT THEY ARE ALL UNFINISHED. WOE. :||| IDK what else to watch - I'm really in a drama mood right now, but everything popular is either really shoujo-ridiculous (in a bad way) or really melodramatic (in a bad way). I got part-way through You're Beautiful a few months ago but I couldn't finish it because the teenage emo was killing me, plus the main characters all annoy me, the new Korean dramas all look...bad (or they haven't started yet) and I JUST WANT TO WATCH SOMETHING DECENT, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK.

I just checked and this is the first time I've gone without posting at least once a month. XD I don't really think it's because I have fewer opinions on my fandoms but I'm so wrapped up in my RP games (going to be in 3 next month, OMG I have never been in that many at once!) that I can hardly keep up with those, much less what new things Korea has done to torture their artists. And to be honest, after the whole 2PM fiasco I've gotten really upset with the Korean fans, enough that I don't follow artists nearly as closely as I have been in the past. The only agency that hasn't let me down so far is YG and even then GD had that stupid "plagiarism" controversy. If we count for a moment:

SM Ent: DBSK is embroiled in multiple lawsuits, and if they break up I will cry. Seriously. I only got into Asian music because I ran into DBSK's "Rising Sun" MV back in 2006 (yes I know that's not when they released it, I was a little slow jumping onto the bandwagon XD) and I will be so, so upset if this stupid lawsuit stuff doesn't get resolved. Plus their new music has been kind of sucky lately - I haven't liked anything since "Bolero". SHINee's new song is pretty good if pretty ridiculous (what is "elastic" supposed to mean, guys? XD) and f(x) is okay too, although I'm pretty sure that SM is going with the "we control your image so tightly you have no personality" route. AND WHERE IS CSJH?! Come back please, you ladies are fierce. :P
JYP Ent: omg I'm not even going to talk about 2PM because I think the whole thing is epically moronic but Wonder Girls haven't released anything new ~~except for the 234th version of "Nobody" yaaaaaaaaay~~, 2AM hasn't released anything and 2PM's new album is mediocre. There's rumors of a new boyband ~~hahaha because Korea really needs more of those~~ but FIX YOUR EXISTING GROUPS FIRST, JYP. (And JYP's releasing a new album himself! NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOU DANCE OR SING, GORILLA MAN.)
DSP Ent: Okay so I'm not really upset about DSP since SS501 made a great comeback (even if "Love Like This is the only good song on that single) and they're doing shows and everything! *squishes them* It's good to have them back, they're pretty much the only "boyband" left that doesn't have underage members. (I can't get into the younger groups, okay, I am a terrible nuna fan who laughs every time they do something "sexy" or "charismatic." You are 16 kiddo, you don't even know how to spell "charismatic".) And Kara is taking a break after their last album, which I liked a lot - it's very sugary and bubblegum poppy but I love it, don't judge me. Not a big fan of DSP's new group Rainbow but I generally don't follow new groups unless their debut song is really good, and I don't like "Gossip Girl" at all - does it remind anyone else of a weaker version of 4Minute's "Hot Issue"?
Cube Ent: Not that I have anything against Cube Ent, but I really don't care about either of their groups. They seem like B-rate versions of Wonder Girls and 2PM.
Pledis Ent: Please to be bringing Son Dam Bi back! "On Saturday Night" was pretty awful, I don't care how popular it was in Korea. XD You've done so well with catchy songs so far, don't let me down! Also I am really sad that After School is going to be a rotation group - if they ever balloon like Morning Musume I will lose all faith in Pledis.
Good Ent:: Okay this isn't their fault but OMG SHINHWA GET OUT OF THE ARMY PLEASE. XD Also where the hell has Hyesung been? I know his last album didn't do so hot (nor did Minwoo's) but c'mon, you're both still better than the kiddos on the scene at the moment.

Also of note: KOREA, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY, ENOUGH WITH THE NEW GROUPS. Male or female, there's been a bajillion new "debuts" in this last few months and I can't even remember half their names. ~~Except for HAM because well, it's a girl group named HAM. I mean, seriously?~~

I feel like this post is getting really negative, so have a list of music that I really love right now!

1. Lyn's new mini-album - the title song and "Nuna's Song" are both fantastic. :D
2. SS501 - "Love Like This", although "Wasteland" isn't bad either. Their dancing is still cheesy but whatever, I <3 them.
3. Icon ft. Eun Ji Won - "Beautiful Lady". I love this song! Go Eun Ji Won, please release your album soon. :D
4. IU - "Marshmallow". I am kind of ashamed of this one because this song is sugary enough to give you cavities but IT IS SO CUTE. SO. CUTE. The rest of the mini-album isn't bad either, but I want IU to go back to using her full voice because hey, she actually has a strong voice! Stop hiding it, whatever IU's management company is.
5. old NEWS stuff, mostly "Forever" and "Why". Yes I watched the Winter Diamond Party Concert recently ~~what a terribly host club-ish name, next thing Johnny's Ent will start marketing their boys as actual hosts.~~
6. OMG THIS ONE ISN'T ASIAN. Mika's "Rain"! I love Mika so so much. YAY GOOD FALSETTOS!
7. Whale and Jo Kwon - "Drunk Shot". I can replay this over and over again and not get tired of it. Don't ask me for my playcount on iTunes, it's too ridiculous to admit.

I'm also seriously considering renaming this journal. It was cute when I first made it but now it just looks terribly Myspace-ish. XD Ideas, anyone?

Good lord it's been forever since I posted anything here, huh? I'm sure most of you thought I was never coming back, and to be honest, now that I've had time to think things over I've decided on some changes:

1. Friends cut - I haven't done it yet, but my flist has gotten ridiculous and it needs some major pruning. This is mostly for the people who've friended me that I still don't recognize, or people that I simply haven't talked to in forever. If you want to stay, leave a comment and tell me so!

2. Fics - as of this point, I will no longer be writing fics. I've stopped reading them, with exceptions for my favorite authors, but I think it's simply a part of my life that I've grown out of. If you friended me for my writing (although heaven knows why anyone would do that since I hardly wrote anything to begin with), this is probably your cue to gracefully bow out, no hard feelings. This is going to be strictly my "fanfom" journal from now on, which means that only squeeing, reviews and ranting will go here from now on. It's not like I really keep a "RL" journal to begin with, so y'all really aren't missing out on anything.

3. Chay/Eryn, I haven't entirely decided yet but I really think I'm going to have to leave YZDX - not because I don't love you girls (and trust me, I do!) but I simply don't enjoy it anymore, plus my other time commitments don't leave me much time for uploading. I'll still be a comm member and I'd love to discuss music with you guys here, but I don't think that being an uploader is something I really want to do anymore.

4. Chay/Eryn/Manda, I'd like your college addresses so I can mail you girls things - you can PM me or something, since I'm not screening comments on this entry. You don't have to if you don't want to, of course, but you're all starting college and I want to send you girls care packages. :P

5. I'm going to do a big music-talk post soon because OMG SO MUCH NEW STUFF I DON'T EVEN HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO LISTEN TO IT ALLLLLL! But for the hip-hop fans, go listen to Drunken Tiger's new album RIGHT NOW because it is amaaaaaazing. Everything else I will get to soon.

6. Any RPers within you guys? Genkan Gakuen is opening up apps on the 15th, and I'm one of the mods! It's Harry Potter magic meets Japanese school, and it's going to be awesome. :D

I JUST GOT BACK FROM A COLDPLAY CONCERT AND IT WAS AMAZING and they did a short set on this tiny platform in the back of the stadium so I was pretty much A FEW FEET AWAY FROM THEM. I WAS *THIS* CLOSE TO BEING ABLE TO TOUCH THEM AS THEY WALKED BY, GUYS.

By the way, I was rewatching the AAA in Tokyo concert and there was a song called "still" (according to the subber) that I didn't recognize but I really liked it. I checked all the album track lists and I couldn't find it - does anyone know if it's a b-side or something? EDIT: I found it! It's the b-side from Happiness. XD

2. SHINee's new mini-album! I've only given it a cursory listen-through but it sounded pretty good. I wasn't thrilled with "Juliette" but it's kind of growing on me, although god knows their costumes are hideous. I think there's hair on the costumes, wtf get that stuff off of them before my brain dies from the ugly. That's as bad as a Johnny's costume, and we all knows Johnny's is the last stop before fashion hell.

3. What is DBSK up to these days? Secret Code came out a while back, they're on tour for Mirotic (or is it over now), "Stand By U" just came out (one day SM will learn to use real words instead of letter substitutes) - oh, and Heaven's Postman trailer just came out too, right? Am I missing anything?

4. I am kind of tempted to watch RESCUE even though firefighters don't really do anything for me, but I kind of want to see Nakamaru act. Has anyone seen it?

5. Kara is kind of cute but I can't stand their music, and I only think they're cute because they were on Every1 Idol with 2PM and it's hard not to be cute around 2PM anyways. I'm so picky about my girl groups, this is kind of ridiculous.

6. Speaking of girl groups, OMG 2NE1 DEBUTED AND THEY ARE AMAZING. They'd be more amazing if they'd appear in more goddamn shows, but I can wait. YG do not fail me now.

7. The Wonder Girls are apparently going on tour with the Jonas Brothers, wtf? JYP how do you even get these kinds of hook-ups?

8. Son Dam Bi gets prettier every time I see her in an ad. This is terribly unfair.

Okay, this is kind of a weird question, but how many of y'all RP? And of the people who do, who would be interested in a Hogwarts-type game set in Japan? It'd be like the Asian version of Hogwarts, essentially. A friend and I are considering starting a game but we don't want to do it if no one is interested.
