Blessed

Times like these, when I'm bogged down with work, finals, and longing to go home, I often forget how blessed I am. It gets hard, sometimes, to remember to count the wonderful things in your life when everything seems so bad... but really, if you took the time to write down all the good things in your life and all the bad things, I think you'd find, more often than not, that the good outweighs the bad.

So, in an effort to make my life cheerier, I will try to (daily) list a blessing or something that just makes me happy. (Perhaps this, too, will encourage me to post more in general.)

So today's happiness:
- Toasted bagels with garden cream cheese
- The smell of fresh paint
- Kitchener stitch
- Having a single!!!!

Well, I don't really have time now, but a quick rundown of my life here in college...

In the last month I:

- Tried a falafel for the first time
- Went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
- Watched Jersey Boys
- Went to Florida
- Played Super Smash Bros until 4 am in the morning... Actually, I do that every Thursday
- Ate at Barca 18 for free. Free!!!
- Watched Rigoletto
- Went to a poetry slam at the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe... pretty hot stuff yo.

In the next week I will:

- WATCH WICKED

Yeah.
Huh... 598

Still, I've always loved the tale of Tristan and Isolde. It's the most beautiful story ever told - next to that of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
- Ellsworth Toohey, The Fountainhead

We can never really know another person, except by our first glance at him. Because, in that glance, we know everything.
- Ellsworth Toohey, The Fountainhead

And what, incidentally, do you think integrity is? The ability not to pick a watch out of your neighbor's pocket? No, it's not as easy as that. If that were all, I'd say ninety-five percent of humanity were honest, upright men. Only, as you can see, they aren't. Integrity is the ability to stand by an idea.
- Kent Lansing, The Fountainhead

To say "I love you" one must know first how to say the "I".
- Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

It takes two to make a very great career: the man who is great, and the man - almost rarer - who is great enough to see greatness and say so.
- Kent Lansing, The Fountainhead

It was the only thing I ever wanted. And that's the sin that can't be forgiven - that I hadn't done what I wanted. It feels so dirty and pointless and monstrous, as one feels about insanity, because there's no sense to it, no dignity, nothing but pain - and wasted pain.
- Peter Keating, The Fountainhead

Look at everyone around us. You've wondered why they suffer, why they seek happiness and never find it. If any man stopped and asked himself whether he's ever held a truly personal desire, he'd find the answer. He'd see that all his wishes, his efforts, his dreams, his ambitions are motivated by other men. He's not really struggling even for material wealth, but for the second-hander's delusion - prestige. A stamp of approval, not his own.
- Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

Nothing can be reasonable or beautiful unless it's made by one central idea, and the idea sets every detail.
- Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

Men hate passion, any great passion. Henry Cameron made a mistake: he loved his work. That was why he fought. That was why he lost.
- The Fountainhead

SENIOR BALL.

Initially, I wasn't going to go. Then I was going to go alone. But through (much) convincing, prodding, and nudging, I decided to go and go with a date. Mitty can be so annoying. But I guess I am glad I went because prom was awesome and very memorable.

So pictures. Beware. They are very ME-centric... but then this is my lj, so what am I saying?

A quick run through of my night:

George came to pick me up around 2:45. Well, actually like around 2:55. And he came bearing flowers which apparently is cute. Then the parentals took pictures, and we went off to school to take more pictures, and then we went to George's to take even MORE pictures. And THEN we went to Deanna's house to... you guessed it... take MORE pictures. So there was a lot of picture taking. We went the restaurant and the guys kept whispering. So Alison and I pretended to whisper things to each other to try to be annoying. When it was clear they were planning something, Alison said we should come up with a way to embarrass the guys. The guys, however, took us by surprise and fricking sang to us at the restaurant. So, in retaliation, we sang "Be A Man"... a capella! We rocked. Then we went to prom. Prom was a lot of waiting in line. A lot. I saw a lot of things I didn't want/need to on the dance floor but that's to be expected. We tried to go bowling, but alas, it was closing in half an hour so we went to go get food instead. Frances and I got a Jack Pepper Scramble or whatever and it was quite good. Then we tried to go to Wal-Mart because Mitty was convinced it was open 24/7... well it's not. So we returned to my house to watch a movie. Halfway through, we decided to go watch the sunrise. Well, there were mountains blocking us so we said screw it and called it a night at 6 a.m.

Me pretending to put on George's boutonniere. For the record though, I managed to pin it back on later when I removed the blue netting.

Outside by my lovely fountain.

Me with my sister.

George and I outside of the limo.

Eddie taking a picture of Frances sticking her tongue out and making funny faces.

Frances and Sheng, in the limo.

Brittany and Frances, in the limo.

My shoes and George's.
... postponed.

I actually don't know when I'll be able to have time to blog about it... if ever. The first reason being I'm going to be busy as hell this week and the second being I'm pretty damn lazy. But, I went. I saw. I conquered. My group was fun, my date was great (ooh, it rhymes.), and the night was memorable... in a good way.

That'll be all for now.

(I am the world's worst blogger.)

When did I get one?

Suddenly, I have a life.

I seriously haven't had time to stop and just whatever. It's been high speed these last two weeks, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down. This is the story of my SUDDENLY EXCITING LIFE.

I left for tour last Wednesday. Chorale tour was everything I hoped it would be and even more. I love singing, I love performing, but my voice crapping out wasn't too cool. It's finally better now and let me tell you, if I can't sing I'm seriously the most depressed person. But I got to know a bunch of people from SL and they were totally awesome. (Much love out to Alex, Caitlin, Michael, Maria, Abier, just to name a few.) KAZOODLES! for shizzle. And Disneyland. God who doesn't love Disneyland? Except we sang in the lines all the time. It was fun at first but after awhile, even I got sick of hearing "Laudate Pueri" for the 28496724th time that hour.

The Sunday we came back I went out and got my prom dress. (!!!!) Monday I worked on projects for English and Physics because... I left Tuesday for Ashland. Holy crap. Ashland is ALLERGY COUNTRY. And I don't even have allergies. Ashland was much less restricted than tour when every single minute of the damn thing was scheduled. It was refreshing to just hang out and have fun. I actually liked the plays. The Importance of Being Earnest was hilarious, and A Winter's Tale wasn't too bad.

But I've seen enough of buses to last me a long long long while.

Today... well yesterday now... a couple of friends and I headed out to the city to hang out with <s>penguins</s> Alex who works at the aquarium. That was fun. I like fishies. And the penguins were great.

Pictures later. I need to do econ. AHHAHA.

I hate the rain.
Ten random things about me:
01. I just bought the soundtracks for My Fair Lady, South Pacific, and West Side Story. I am a happy little girl.
02. I bite my nails. What a bad habit.
03. I have a burn on (mostly) my left arm that I got by pulling down a rice cooker when I was eight months old.
04. I love musical theatre/Broadway/musicals/you get the idea.
05. When I'm really bored at some sort of formal event, I pass time by drinking water. This often results in many trips to the bathroom.
06. I lived the first fourteen years of my life in San Francisco and the past four in Fremont. The next four will most likely be lived in the grand city of New York.
07. I used to collect turtles when I was younger. Apparently I'm too lazy to continue.
08. I have a tendency to have bursts of strange obsessions.
09. I also have a tendency to randomly burst into song.
10. I have a short attention span.

Nine ways to win my heart:
01. Serenade me.
02. Make me laugh.
03. Talk to me, converse with me... just show me you have depth.
04. Respect me.
05. Treat my family well.
06. Be open-minded and understanding.
07. Spontaneity.
08. Cook for me. :)
09. Be yourself and let your guard down. Yeah it's cliche.

Eight things I wanna do before I die:
01. Get married and have a family.
02. Cook as well as my mom.
03. See the Giants win a World Series.
04. Study abroad/travel.
05. Own a place of my own and decorate it however I please.
06. Own season tickets for the Giants.
07. Meet Jeff Francoeur.
08. Resolve my personal problems/reservations/confusions regarding religion.

Seven things that annoy me:
01. Rain delays.
02. The Barry Bonds steroids scandal. Seriously, people. It's old.
03. Hypocrisy... but I guess everyone's a little hypocritical.
04. People who can't get over themselves.
05. Nagging.
06. Small, spoiled dogs.
07. The fact that the Chess soundtrack is 35.99. wtf?!

Six things I wish for:
01. An unlimited supply of yarn. Oh man.
02. An amazing singing voice.
03. Self-esteem and confidence.
04. Unrelenting faith.
05. A really fast metabolism.
06. World peace. Really.

Five things I'm afraid of:
01. Failure.
02. Losing sight of my aspirations and dreams as the years wear me down.
03. Singing in front of people. Not spontaneous singing... I mean a solo performance.
04. Rejection.
05. Razor blades and shaving.

Four of my favorite songs:
01. Defying Gravity - Wicked
02. Dare You to Move - Switchfoot
03. Curve of the Earth - Matt Nathanson
04. Lonely Night in Georgia - Marc Broussard

Three things I do everyday:
01. Sing.
02. Knit.
03. Laugh like an idiot.

Two (more!) things I do everyday:
01. Sleep.
02. Crack lame jokes.

One person I want to see right now:
01. You.
______________________________________________________

1. The tagged victim has to come up with 8 different descriptions of their perfect lover.
2. He/she needs to mention the sex/gender of their perfect lover.
3. He/she must tag 8 more people to join this game and leave a comment on their comments saying they've been tagged.
4. If tagged a second time, there's no need to post again.

The perfect lover: Compassionate. Open-minded. Has a brilliant and beautiful smile that he uses often. Likes kids. Intelligent. Tolerates my obsessions. Has a good sense of humor. <s>Jeff Francoeur</s> Shares my aspirations.

<span class="ljuser i-ljuser i-ljuser-type-P " data-ljuser="iliveforthis"
April Showers bring... postponed games

I remember now why I love baseball so friggin much. The sunshine! The grass! The solo shots that tie the game in the ninth inning after you blew the lead! The Texas Leaguers that score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth!

It's all so beautiful.

And now I can say this with a clean conscience:
Steve Finley is frickin hot.

And I'm going to marry Jeff Francoeur.

[/fangirly squealing]

Edit: Look: Mr. Francoeur

Pure unadulterated geeky/dorky smile on an absolutely hot boy.
Honking is a bad idea. Unless you want to pay a fine of $340.

Only cars have to follow traffic lights. For pedestrians they are merely "guidelines."

Speaking of cars, you can't make a right turn on red lights. Unless a sign says you can. But otherwise it's illegal.

The weather is cool, brisk, and sunshiney. It's raining here. WHY.

The Met is cool. I like the Met. I like the artwork. I like the Egyptian exhibit. Egyptian art is really cool. Except the CAT scan of the mummy was kind of disgusting. The paintings were beautiful though. I can't believe people can produce such beautiful things.

Toys R Us. Anyone who's been there understands.

Shopping and pizza! My aunt said I had to try the pizza.

I was fricking tired after my red eye flight, and my feet hurt really badly... but good times.

Traffic sucks.

If I could have ANYTHING right now...

I would wish I could sing a C#. In full voice. And have it sound really pretty.

So

I just wasted the last half hour watching the latest episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Before you accuse me of having no life (though you'd be right), you should watch it. Because it's good stuff. Even though it's wannabe anime. IT'S GOOD WANNABE ANIME.

ZUTARA!!!!!!!!!!

That is all.

I can't believe Crash won. Really. Wow.

That said I want to see...
The Constant Gardener - Because I love Ralph Fiennes. Like fo shizzle.
Brokeback Mountain - Yeah. I like Jake Gyllenhaal. But that's not why I want to see it. But it helps. Haha.
Memoirs of a Geisha - Once it's out on DVD and I can rent it. It probably isn't a very good movie but I want to see it and its prettiness anyway.
Munich
Good Night, and Good Luck - Jesus. I've been wanting to see this for a long time.
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit - Self explanatory.
Curious George - Because he's cute. :)

The coming soons:
V for Vendetta
The Libertine - I have yet to see a movie where Johnny Depp wasn't amazing.

Excitement.

There are certain stories that just put everything in perspective.

http://www.fnnc.org/drunk-driving.html (DISTURBING IMAGE WARNING.)

This girl is stronger than I could ever be. I think I would have rather died. But somehow she found a reason to live, the strength to pull through. And most of all, the strength to forgive. I don't know if I could forgive the driver like Jacqui did.

Don't drink and drive. Two years ago, my cousin was hit by a drunk driver. We thought he might never walk again. Even now, he walks with a slight limp. Driving under the influence is about the stupidest thing you can do.

If you can get past the pictures, take a look at her story. It's an inspiring one.

After a year of silence...

I GOT SPEAKERS.

And a sidenote: if you're curious about my knitting - _knitaholic.
