Just to check, re: Mr Frank Klepacki...

if anyone's suddenly found a spare couple of hundred dollars under the sofa, do feel free to say so. We've /probably/ got sufficient for the $1k option, assuming those who have stated their contributions can make them, but more pledgings couldn't hurt.

Otherwise, it's all systems go in twelve hours' time for Phase 3.

Since my leaving to go to Dad's for the weekend last Friday and this evening, my mother and stepdad have managed to throw off the shackles of the progress they had made towards accepting the fact of my recent failure.

With the result that I got to hear the You Have Failed Us speech again, followed by the You Have Ended Your Life speech and the We Think You Don't Feel Bad Enough About Having Failed So We're Going To Describe How We've Been Having Stress Attacks speech. Obligatory Harry Potter referencing post, spoiler free for your viewing pleasure:

Read it this morning, hurriedly, since my mother was eyeing it up greedily. Was pleased to note that Rowling's settled into her progressively darker style after two rather weak books - less adolescent whining all round and more paranoia and intrigue, very nice.
Narrative Convention continues to be my friend and companion; I can safely claim to have worked out the identity of the titular HBP ahead of time, and had called the identity and time of death of this book's clog-popper back when book two came out. ¬¬ A number of surprising and good plot twists, though, kept it being at all pedestrian.
Harry's, erm, 'beast' is a bit new on the scene, though, innit? Maybe he should train it like an amorous version of Sam Vimes...

STRIIIIDERRRRR!

Furthermore, a list of all similarities between the original book and the film:

a) Mars attacks Earth with three-legged mechs
b) Red weed
c) Ogilvie has a cellar
d) Earth's secret weapon

Which, frankly, is two more than I expected on entering the cinema.

Most enjoyable, all in all, even if it does use the tired old 'Dysfunctional family has all its problems solved in the process of the destruction of civilisation as we know it' gag.

Update as concerns: My life.

1) Papers being re-assessed as of tomorrow.
2) If the reassessment is not sufficient (which is likely unless there's been a stunning cockup) I shall re-enroll into the 3rd year and resit the exams at the end of it. Heavy workload, but damned if I'm going to waste three years' work over a set of exam woes.
3) If the college gives me any crap over any aspect of this, I have about five different sources of backup all prepared to go in like the US Marshals to hold my flank.

4) I have summer job yey; this means I shall have funds for said year. Promotion and payrise over previous job, too, which is le tasteh.
5) Going to do some writing in my spare time; various persons may relax in the knowledge that Project: SGU will continue as planned although slightly delayed.
6) Shall go back to the fencing lessons, 'cos I miss all that.
