New!Mod Application

N E W ! M O D A P P L I C A T I O N

You have until: The end of OCTOBER 31ST, 2009 to submit your application.

With the Real Life and the school year being here IC!ly and OOC!ly, the moderators are in need of another mod to help out with things about the community. There is really no sector to hand out for the mod to be in charge of, so as long as you are happy and enjoy being well-rounded, the help will most likely fall in community upkeep and applications. Just another number to add to the list, we would need help with things that don't get taken care of on time due to various schedule changes around the community.

And four is such a clean, even number! You would not be a submod, you would be a mod of course. We're all just mods really, crazy-wacky mods. Everyone can have their say in events though, its not a big deal to help out, the assigned fields just keep things a little more organized.

R U L E S ;
□ Applicants must have a strong understanding of the game play and the way of things. It would be nice if the applicants had some seniority in SH to know how things run and the mannerism of certain people, but if you are new and feel like you are up to it, by all means apply away. Please consider that when applying you consider that not only that you will be making important choices on your own and keep things at the level the game is suppose to be at, but you must work well with others. Even though the fields are split, big events and important choices need to be run by all moderators. All player complaints need to be addressed as a group, as a whole, to keep things clear and healthy. Discussing and argument is part of a relationship, but one needs to know how to handle it respectfully and professionally.

□ The mod will be voted on amongst the current moderators. Applications will be screened to keep drama out of the process.

□ The amount of effort you put into your application is of your own accord. You put into it what you put into it, We are not giving you a 2500 word limit or anything, but your effort will be apparent and will help in the matter in who to choose.

A P P L I C A T I O N ;

<b>Name:</b>

<b>Please indicate any previous moderating experience:</b>

<b>How do you think we can make this game more all over player interactive and lessen possible cliques:</b>

<b>What do you think would improve the game’s appeal towards people applying and those already involved:</b>

<b>What's your schedule like in terms of school, work and RL:</b>

<b>What makes you think that you are suitable for a moderators position:</b>

<b>If you were added on as a moderator, what would you do as a mod for the community, how would you clean things up, what would you encourage, what would you change:</b>

<b>A does a plot where A got hurt and didn't leave any notes on if they made plot with someone to help them and mun of B who is a authority figure decided to be an authority figure and help them. C comes along and gets mad at B for interfering in the plot and saying they had not part in it, A also gets mad at B and B gets mad back. WHAT DO YOU DO?:</b>

<b>What type of events do you think the game should focus more on since the game is following the early wizarding wars time line?:</b>

It fulfills all of our bullet points without being excessive. We hope it assists you in applying!

Character Information
Name: Maka Albarn
Canon Origin/Series: Soul Eater
School Year: 3rd
Gender: Female
Age: 13
Out of school living location: Bloomsbury, Camden borough, London. Both of her parents work in the Ministry <strike>or at least both until Mama left</strike> and Spirit is too squeamish to go very far daily in the Floo network.
Blood status: Halfblood

Personality: Maka was described as a serious person that tries hard, this is true to some extent but there's a lot more to Maka than that. She does try hard with a lot of aspects in her life due to her want to be the best and most self-sufficient she can be and create a deathscythe more powerful than the one her mother created. She studies to get the best grades she can (and even finds the learning and testing parts fun) and she fights hard (oftentimes without thinking because she knows if she has time to think she'll start worrying and not do it, having courage is important after all. Though with some situations she eventually realizes that she needs to step back and think for a moment.) Maka is not completely serious all the time, she's actually quite friendly to most people that don't appear to be out to cause trouble (much to the annoyance of her more cynical partner, Soul). As a friend, Maka is as supportive as she can be given her fairly limited view of some things and even if some of her friends annoy her.

However, there are less than desirable aspects to Maka as well. Actually, some things about her personality can get downright ugly when her emotions run high (and, subsequently, greatly upsets and throws her off) or when something aggravates the various issues/complexes she has. Though Maka is quite confident in her abilities and works hard to keep herself strong so she can protect her friends, she tends to become obsessive with perfecting things and REALLY stubborn, making sure her friends safe and getting the job done even through risking her own life. Sometimes she even loses her temper and becomes violent (though this is mostly towards Soul.) OH AND BY THE WAY, she has an inferiority complex, trust issues, holds some serious grudges and is a misandrist.

Canon Background: Maka Albarn is one of the three main meisters in Soul Eater and the first character introduced in the story. Her partner and friend is Soul Eater (mostly called Soul) Evans, a boy that can turn into a scythe for her to wield. She's a student at Shibusen, a school run by the Grim Reaper that trains meisters, the wielders of weapons, and weapons, the people that can turn into weapons. They hunt down kishin souls (souls that have become corrupted) and witches to protect the peace. Maka's father, Spirit (who is referred to as Death Scythe), is also a scythe that's one of the Grim Reaper's weapons called a "deathscythe" and her mother was his previous meister (though before the series started, they divorced and Maka holds a grudge against him for his womanizing).

Maka and Soul gathered 99 kishin souls as it's the goal of all Shibusen meisters to gather 99 kishin souls and one witch's soul so their weapon partner can be made into a powerful deathscythe with them but a certain accident happened to have their souls confiscated. They struck down what they THOUGHT was a witch and Soul ate her soul, but it turns out she was a cat with "strong magic" as she calls it and she lived through the assault because cats have nine souls. Go figure. They were stuck with Blair from then on and now have to gather kishin souls all over again. Eventually, as is traditional with shonen anime, they have to forget about gathering kishin souls all over again to fight against the bad guys that crop up to set their PLOT into motion. These bad guys come in the form of the witch Medusa and the original big bad Kishin Asura, both of whom threaten to infect the world with MADNESS.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): Maka's life was that of a fairly normal child in the beginning. Kami (Maka's not very certain that's her real name) and Spirit (though he's not commonly known by this name, most people call him Death Scythe), her parents and two very well-known Aurors, did all they could to make the best life possible for their daughter despite the fact that they weren't home as often as they should have been. And despite the fact that they actually moved a couple of times before settling in Bloomsbury closer to the Ministry. Maka, precocious as she was, had already decided exactly what she was going to do with her life; she was going to be an Auror just like her parents. Once she got to Hogwarts, she became bound and determined to be in the top of her classes like her mother so she could show up her parents <strike>but mostly her Papa since she started to notice that he was becoming a little too friendly with women that aren't mom</strike> when she became an Auror. Despite the insistence on studying and not socializing much, she made friends that would pull her out of her studying hovel often and force her into going outside.

When her second year was almost done, Maka got a letter from her mother saying that she was leaving Papa and being assigned to a different post in a different country. Henceforth, she would be traveling to different countries and not physically reporting back to the English Ministry. This made Maka all the more determined to achieve her goals and she went back to her regularly scheduled life as that's all the girl could do. A few months later there was another blow to antagonize Maka's sense of confidence as news of dark wizards attacking her school broke. She became obsessed with being useful to Dumbledore and shut herself off completely to study and practice. It started to take a bit of a toll on her health, but she refused to stop. Now Maka's in her third year and despite her insistence on isolating herself, she actually gets along with most of the other students and does well in all of her subjects, as she prefers it.

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor: The whole of Maka's character is facing things down with courage and fighting fear, even if she is afraid and unsure of herself. She's brave, greatly prefers to do what's right (though she seems to take a "the end justifies the means" attitude with some things. She hates to lose) and can be rather hotheaded. I suppose that's what happens when you're facing down enemies that use fear and insanity to manipulate and overpower others. <strike>The whole "courage" thing gets repeated so often, she may as well be the Cowardly Lion's coach.</strike> She could fit quite well into Gryffindor.

Hufflepuff: Maka does have a strong sense of loyalty and even if she is hotheaded she has a kind heart given that she won over Crona despite the little sexless blob not knowing how to deal with affection. That and her determination to win and hardworking personality can fit as well. Although she's a bit too...well, forceful, if that makes sense for Hufflepuff. It's not completely impossible for her to fit into Puff, it's just not as fitting.

Ravenclaw: Maka's a nerd. No, really. A total perfectionist bookworm that reads for fun and likes doing word games. As said before she studies obsessively and finds things like exams, which are ordinarily daunting, a fun test of her knowledge and knows all of the rules and regulations of her school by heart. In the creative department she likes writing poetry, but only to work out her ~*feelings*~. But she thinks fast on her feet in battle which leads to...interesting results.

Slytherin: She's ambitious so far as...she doesn't like to lose and having a the end justifying the means attitude. <strike>Which leads to at least two deals with the devil, as it were.</strike> And she manipulates her dad with cuteness when it suits her, but that's really about as far as it goes for Slytherin characteristics.

Sample Journal Entry:
So, these are the journals everyone's been scribbling in during class. <strike>That's no better than passing notes.</strike> I don't usually have a reason to write in journals, but I guess there's no harm in trying to keep up with this one. How is everyone today? Are you [if she didn't say she didn't usually write in journals, it would have been made evident by the ink drippings here] keeping up with classes all right? <strike>I hope not everyone's dumb enough to pull a stunt like Soul did, anyway.</strike>

Oh, my name is Maka Albarn, by the way. It's nice to meet you.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:
Platform 9 3/4 was active as usual as students gave their partings to their parents and boarded the train. Maka wasn't paying attention to this, however, as she was flipping through a blank journal she found in a pile of bills on her father's nightstand. "Papa, what is this and how long was it there?" she asked, brushing off some dust with a look of distaste.

"W-well..." Spirit eventually said after a moment of fidgeting and fiddling with his jacket nervously. Maka took that as a sign that he was about to say something that would make her want to hit him when he coughed and said: "It actually came with your letter of acceptance t-to Hogwarts...three years ago." He immediately recoiled when Maka glowered at him. She should have been afraid of him causing a scene in the next moment, but she was too annoyed at the fact he had been hiding yet another thing from her. Predictably, Spirit put his face in his hands and started to sob. "Papa's sorry, Maka, Papa's so sorry!" he cried as people walking past stared at the two. "But--but--that journal connects you to a network in the entire school, dirty boys in there might prey on you!"

Maka scowled and brought the spine of the journal down heavily onto the man's head. "I'll be fine!" she snapped while Spirit started rubbing his head. "Now I have to go. Don't get arrested while I'm gone," Maka added, turning and marching to the train.

"Papa loves you, Maka!" she heard Spirit call after her.

"I know," Maka muttered, rolling her eyes. "I know." She sat down and put her journal in her bag, trading it for a book she had been reading as other students milled past. "Does he always have to be so paranoid, though?"

Here is a reminder of how the games will be run;

Each team member can submit an input of how their character did in the match, and in turn, the announcer (once given the winning team for the match by the mods), can take creative liberties with it and base the match partially on what they've gathered. This match will then be posted on the log community for all players to see. The winners will be done by dice roll by the mods. There will be about 6 matches a year. Points will be compiled and the winning team gets the house cup and all the glory at the end of the year.

Player participation in encouraged in the results of the announcers summary of the match. The winners will be decided beforehand with a dice roll done by 2 moderators, best 3 out of 4. The announcers will be given some time to write their summary, (with back up commentators in case of emergency) then will post them on or by the 3rd in the log community. Players can then feel free to respond and react to it in game.

If you don’t respond to this post on time, your character's actions will just be backdrop for the match. Your input is your choice, but remember, the announcers have creative freedom and not everything you wanted to happen WILL happen, something that we don't expect anyone to criticize the announcers about. Not everyone can get knocked out in one match after all, so it's all a surprise, yes~?

Comments are screened.

This match will take place during musical days, please make sure to include if your characters will be singing during the match.

APPLICATION GUIDE

A P P L I C A T I O N G U I D E

Having trouble with your application? Worried whether it'll be accepted or not? Here are some tips that we offer for prospective players to get an idea of what we look for in an app.

→ Read the rules. This is a big thing, you must read the application rules (as well as the community rules) and the HP!Canon to apply. Not following the rules is a good way to get wavered. And subsequently rejected. And we REALLY don't like rejecting people.

→ Word Count. If a section has a word count, writing less than required is another good way to get wavered. We DO check, so doing a few words extra is the safest bet. The word count is so we can see you have a grasp on the character enough to write a decent amount on them.

→ Grammar and Spelling. This should be a given, but an application ridden with grammatical errors does not a happy mod make. We view grammar issues as something that will persist during play and it can be distracting for your fellow players. Given the fact that people tend to have a lot more time to mull over an application than a tag, checking your spelling and grammar is highly recommended.

→ Personality. We like to see ALL aspects of their personality, especially if it undergoes a large upheaval in canon. Even if you plan on picking up a character midway in their development and playing it out in-game, we want to see that you know your character and how they grow or react to different circumstances. This portion is important, because no matter how their history is morphed for Harry Potter canon, their personality should stay the same. Staying IC is important.

→ Hogwarts Houses. Characters are complex, and they rarely fit in just one house. Most people have the personality they reveal to others, and then their true selves (which might be a different person entirely). In this section, we're asking for you to explain how your character might be courageous, loyal, clever, or resourceful, and if they completely don't fit a house, we're asking you to explain why. We generally don't recommend using this as an opportunity to pimp your character for a certain house or over generalize with 'they aren't pushovers so they can't be Hufflepuff' or 'they don't hate muggles and they aren't evil so they can't be Slytherin'. This section is so that we can get a fuller image of your character and your understanding of them, so we can better pick a house for them. For brief info on the characteristics of each house, read up on them on the FAQ.

→ Canon!History. When we say brief, we really do mean that. A few paragraphs is fine, but a 3 page report is excessive, unless the series is extremely obscure. Whether the canon history is long or short, we will research your series and hopefully have a mod who knows it judge your app. This is more for your benefit to re-examine your character's history in preparation for doing the HP!Canon history, and to see if you know your canon. (But don't give us 2 sentences, plz.) For the Hetalia characters, we prefer to see more of the history of the character in the context of the comic, rather than the actual history of the country. You can have a little of the latter, but if it's nothing but that, you'll probably be asked to revise it.

→ HP!Canon History. This is the place people often struggle the most. The thing to consider is, if your character was a wizard, how would they be? It's a great chance to get creative, but it's also the place that tends to have the most amount of issues in converting the original canon for the character. When in doubt, consult the FAQ and the links provided on the HP!Canon Guide. Consulting a moderator before applying is also wise if having difficulty.

The best advice for this portion is to use common sense and to write a backstory that will result in your character having the same personality as they do in canon. This is also the portion to put the classes or hobbies your character enjoys.

→ Suitability. This is a section for teacher characters only, and it is not always required. However, if you feel there may be some question as to why Dumbledore would hire your character (for example, if they are a murderous psychopath, if they can't manage basic spells, if they are allergic to children, etc), we would like you to provide a clear explanation as to why they should be hired. If the mods are unsure about your character's suitability, we may ask for elaboration on this section.

→ First Person. First person is an entry written by your character on the journal system for others to read. This is a chance to showcase two things: their personality and your handle on the voice of the character. You've described their personality, so this is the place to show it. Showing speech patterns that the character shares is also encouraged. They can post about homework, quidditch, or anything, so long as it displays part of who they are, even if it's only the face they show to their peers.

→ Third Person. The third person sample is at times viewed as difficult, but it doesn't have to be. The best third person posts are the ones that have the character doing a physical action that shows their personality and how they act. Your character could be doing something mundane, such as studying, walking through the hallway, or practising spells, but if the spell sets someone on fire, is it intentional? Were they having difficulty prior to casting it? Does anyone comment to it, and what is your character's reaction to them?

This is just one example, but it's meant to display that the log doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to be consistent with who they are. Many fail to make the word limit for this one, so being conscientious of your word count is important as well.

→ When in doubt. Contact a mod before submitting. There is no lack of places to message us and we'll be happy to help. You can also comment to the FAQ or this entry if you have a question you think everyone could benefit from. We have a sample application for those who find themselves struggling, as well.

Hope all of this helps and happy apping~!

Plots tend to be a sequence of events, where as events are one time occurrences.

Plots; Serious physical/magical injury, turning into a vampire or a werewolf, any dark wizard plot, actual criminal offenses that can take place in the real world (i.e.: rape, murder and so on) all need to be approved by the mods.
This is the post for beginning of the year sign up for Quidditch, Head of House, Quidditch announcer and Prefect sign up.

We start out fresh every year so all previously held spots are gone, this is done to give everyone an equal chance at getting a spot. You may re-apply for previous spots but you will be competing with others.

The spots that are up for grabs are as followed.

Head of House: Professors only. No teaching assistants or graduate students; if by chance the rolls are not filled by full-blown professors then the rules may change to allow TAs to apply. Expect to have these positions voted upon.

Head Boy/Girl: 7th year only, one boy and one girl. These positions will also be voted upon.

Quidditch: Each house has a team of 7. 1 Seeker, 1 Keeper, 2 Beaters and 3 Chasers. These spots are for 2nd year and up only.

Prefect: Each house has a male and female Prefect for 5th, 6th, and 7th years. If you choose to apply for one of these spots, you must apply for the spot that is relevant to your school year.

If there is more than one applicant per spot, there will be a community vote to determine who is best suited for the position. If only one person applies for a positions, this does not mean that you will get it. The mods have the right to reject any application that they don't see fitting a character. Quidditch captains will be determined at a later date.

Each player is allowed to occupy THREE SPOTS. This does not mean one character can occupy multiple spots, this means that Mun A may have Character A be a Prefect and Character C be a Quidditch Player.

Head of House
<b>Name:</b>
