Casting a wary glance at the door, he carefully throws back the covers and slides out of bed. He winces slightly as he puts weight on his bad ankle, bu quickly leans against the wall and hobbles over to the window.

[The video feed turns on with no warning, and at first is jolting around so much that it is impossible to tell anything about the location or the person carrying it. There is only the sound of heavy breathing, the howls of the ferals and a low motorized whine. Suddenly the feed straightens out for a second, showing a familiar looking clearing not far from Dissimulo. And a very familiar soccer ball slamming into the nearest feral.

It is thrown into a tree with enough force to splinter the trunk, and the pack shies away for a second. But that doesn't last. With another loud howl they begin to close in.]

[Conan listens worriedly to Ran in the other room. This entire disaster had caught him completely by surprise. Not only the illusory bodies being replaced with real bodies, but the thick fog cutting off travel options. Not to mention the sudden disappearance of everyone in the house. Adam and Makoto had disappeared with no clues to their location. Hattori and Kazuha were gone as well. Lost in the fog, he culd only hope.

And there was nothing he could do. Leaving the house with no clues and little visibility would be a mistake. And he could not lead Ran into that kind of danger. All he could do was try to gather information.]

Hattori? Where are you? What's your condition?

Luke? Where are you? Are you staying inside somewhere?

Is everyone okay? This fog is scary isn't it? It would be awful to be lost out there. Is there anyone missing?

Has anyone thought about what to do about all the corpses?

[The first time Conan wakes up, it is to a very familiar pain. Like his very bones were melting and reforming. He bites back a scream and falls unconscious again after only a few seconds..

The second time Conan wakes up he pushes himself up into a seated position and gropes for his glasses. Instead he accidentally knocks his communicator onto the floor as he reaches much too far, overbalancing and falling out of bed with a loud crash. After a stunned moment he sits back up and stares at himself in shock. He was in his real body.]

How? The last thing I remember...

[He cuts himself off, both in surprise at his own voice and at the memory. He shouldn't have survived that. He'd been able to calculate exactly what his captors' intentions had been, and there was no way he could have escaped from it without injury.

Shinichi stands up, hastily wrapping the sheet around himself, and strives to form a plan. First, he needed information. He needed to know where he was and what had happened. And he needed to get in contact with Hattori and Ran. Were they okay?

...Also, he needed clothes. Whatever this location was, the thin sheet he'd located was not nearly enough to ward off the chill.

So, information first. He reaches for the communicator and begins to compose a text message using the highest security he could think of. After a moment of thought he encodes it for the added security.]

[Conan tosses and turns restlessly in his sleep, obviously struggling against a bad dream. All of a sudden he bolts straight up with a half-strangled scream and falls out of bed. He doesn't even notice his hand knocking his communicator onto the floor.]

[He looks around frantically for a moment, then slumps back to the ground.]

Just a dream, is it? How embarrassing.

[He knew what had brought it on, of course. So many people had been attacked recently. Some of them close friends. And... he had been completely useless when Hattori had been attacked. With this child's body he had been helpless to do anything more than watch over Kazuha and Ran.

He knew better. Everyone was fine. But all the same he found that he couldn't resist the urge to check on everyone. He hastily stands up and begins to silently make his way toward Ran's room.]

[This place.... He recognized it. But how? How could he have been brought here again? And how could he have forgotten it all these months? He takes up the communicator and looks it over skeptically, wondering if the people he had known here before were still here, and switches it over to audio. But before he can say anything the teen detective is overcome by another attack. He clutches at his chest and breathes harshly, staggering over to lean up against a wall.]

[S-so hot. I feel like my bones are melting. Will I really change back now? Will I become Conan again? Now? Without a chance to tell her?]

[Shinichi desperately attempts to formulate a plan through the pain. He couldn't allow himself to change back here. Not where anyone could find him. He would be completely vulnerable after the change. This costume had served him well when he had needed it to hide, but none of his gadgets were with him. He could only think of one desperate course of action. Still clutching at his chest as the waves of pulsing pain swept through his body, he slowly raises the communicator to his face and whispers to it in a voice hoarse and strained by pain.]

Hattori?

[But he can say nothing more as the pain suddenly intensifies and he screams.]

[This entire situation was completely illogical. He'd seen the murders and he suicides in that other place, before all of his memories simply stopped. And now it was like none of that had ever happened. How was it possible? How had they pulled off that trick?

[Conan is seated at a table in a dimly lit location, with a pile of thick books by his side. Every one of them is heavy enough for the boy to need two hands to carry them. He shoves the last book back onto the table and speaks into the communicator in a whisper.]

Ne, has anyone noticed? There's something strange about the books in-

[He freezes as an adult's shadow falls over him.]

Boy? What are you doing? Don't you think those books are a little advanced?

[A hand can be seen reaching down and gathering up the books on the table as Conan pastes an innocent smile on his face.]

I'm playing! Don't high school students do homework just like this?

[Three days in this place, and he'd made no progress in deducing the motive behind this situation. There seemed to be no pattern in who had been taken and how long they had been kept here. Not even the victims who had been kept here for long periods at all knew anything real about the situation. The few supposed reasons he'd heard were ludicrous and obviously merely a guess on the part of his fellow captives. Obviously, he couldn't make any more progress in this case until he had acquired more information.
