Sometimes I wonder just how different humans are from animals.
They may have a smaller brain than ours, but they do have the same amount of compassion we hold.
Today I drove out to pick up my cousin who got lost coming over. Near where she parked her car, there was a squirrel in the middle of the road nibbling at some roadkill. I didn't know that squirrels were carnivorous. Later my cousin told me this:
"The squirrel wasn't eating roadkill, it was actually another squirrel. They were playing in the middle of the road when a car ran over one of them. The other one was trying to pull its dead friend over to the side of the road."
Yes, a squirrel actually doing that. Of course, the squirrel didn't realise its friend was actually dead but to imagine an animal capable of it...
Later we drove past again and found the other squirrel also dead, ran over barely six inches from its friend. It probably was still trying to the very end to pull its friend over to the side of the road.
