So I've been teaching Korean students online for more than a year. My job situation has been dire, since my insurance is being canceled at the end of August and I need a full time job, and I haven't had any interviews in ages.

I applied for a couple places teaching English in Asia, thinking "Why not? I want to visit Korea anyway" and "It's not like I'll get the job," the possibility of teaching abroad having come up before and my anxiety-ridden homebody self gone, "Yeahno."

So today I got an email from one of the companies. They'd be "very interested" in talking to me. My first response was \o/ I called her back and left a message, then went on the website and read about all the paperwork and things I'd have to straighten out.

Cue panic.

OMG it's for a year and halfway around the world, and the most time I've spent away from home is five weeks and I don't know anybody and I won't speak the language and I don't have that much classroom experience...

I'm a little calmer now, but still freaking out. I'm obviously hoping I get the job, since it'd be awesome to put on a resume and probably a lot of fun, but...*ulp*

Here's their next move: The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, would obliterate any semblance of online privacy in the United States.

This so-called cyber security bill aims to prevent theft of "government information" and "intellectual property" and could let ISPs block your access to websites -- or the whole Internet.

Don't let them push this back-door SOPA. Click here to demand that your lawmakers oppose CISPA.

CISPA also encourages companies to share information about you with the government and other corporations.

That data could then be used for just about anything -- from prosecuting crimes to ad placements.

And perhaps worst of all, CISPA supercedes all other online privacy protections.

How did you get into each fandom?

Dr. Who: I'd heard about it, but purposely avoided it, because I like to be thorough with my fandoms and the show had been running since '63. Then dad downloaded "The Next Doctor," I glared at him and said "You just had to get me hooked, didn't you?" Now I've seen all the eps except some with the First and Second Doctors.

Suits: I'd seen prompts for it on comment_fic and it was on my "to watch" list. Finally got around to it in January, I've only written two fics so far, but if I get inspiration I'll write more.

White Collar: Started watching it about the same time as Suits, since it was also on my "to watch" list. Still in season 2.

Supernatural: I heard about it after the first season started, thought "Hm, sounds interesting," then promptly forgot about it. Then season three of Torchwood happened, Ianto died, and the showrunner said in an interview: "There’s a risk that some people won’t come back to watch now that Ianto’s gone. I thank them for watching the show and I recommend they go watch Supernatural, because those boys are beautiful." "Fuck you very much, Rusty, I will," I thought. I got caught up on the eps, was extremely obsessed during season five, watched season six and a few eps of seven before I quit (Sera Gamble is no Kripke). I still write fic, but it's more an "every-so-often" thing.

Hawaii Five 0: I saw prompts on comment_fic and heard about it on my twitter feed, but wasn't really interested until I saw a preview for a crossover ep with NCIS: LA. I decided to watch that, and of course I had to watch the rest of the eps first so I'd know what was going on.

Sherlock (BBC): Heard that Mark Gatiss was working on it, saw the first episode and fell in love. Haven't written any fanfic yet, since I don't think I can do the characters justice.

Dr. Who: Rory. He's all around decent and so underappreciated at first.

(I use "currently working on" loosely)

1. Michael was talking with Lucifer when he heard a completely strange sound. It was something like arf and something like wrof. He and Lucifer both turned and stared at the…animal.

2. They don’t talk about it. And not in their normal “Repression is the best way to deal with things” way. It’s the elephant in the room, this Thing hanging between them that might have worked out, after a whole lot of angsting, except for how it happened.

3. Harvey doesn’t get drunk. Oh sure, he drinks, but he hates being out of control, so he doesn’t do it more than necessary. He’s a master of nursing whisky, because beer wouldn’t match his image.

4. Neal fidgets. Peter’s in with El, playing the supportive husband. And since he can’t be in there too, playing the supportive polyamorous lover, he’s stuck out in the waiting room while his non-biological kid is born.

So I've been watching White Collar lately, and I've become totally addicted to the show, so much so that I end up staying up til all hours watching (stupid cliffhangers!) I also ship Peter/Neal/El. And last night I had a White Collar related dream. It was kinda fractured, as dreams tend to be, but I'm tempted to try to make this into a fic.

1st part:

•El and Peter have a son (named Nick) who is born with some sort of heart defect (hole in his heart?). Neal leaves because he can’t deal with Nick possibly dying.

2nd part:

•Nick (about five) is with Neal, who lets him do whatever he wants, takes him places, etc. Not sure where El and Peter are. Nick doesn’t remember them and calls Neal ‘Daddy.’
•Every night Neal and Nick string beads, prayers that he’ll get better, and hang them in his room. Meanwhile Neal is trying to find a donor for Nick, but most available organs are adults.
•Nick collapses, Neal takes him to the hospital, where he’s put on life support. Peter comes and confronts him about taking Nick. Neal says he was trying to help. Peter is furious and says, "We're done." And then I woke up.

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.

An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.

The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.

This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.

It's time to stand up and demand change. Spread the word everywhere if you are just as angry and outraged by this.
