Welcome Message from MIS Admissions Teams

Thank you for considering Munich International School as the next step in your child's educational journey. This dashboard is designed to give you an overview of Munich International School's entire admissions process.
Before applying, we encourage all families to:
- Understand our academic programmes (IB Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, IB Diploma Programme).
- Review our School Fees & Reductions section below.
- Refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.
- Familiarize yourself with our school's Code of Conduct.
When To Apply
The school year at Munich International School runs from August to June, and we accept applications starting in October for the following school year. We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible, as places are limited.
Subject to space availability, we also accept new students during the school year (except Grade 11). If you are interested in applying for the 2025-26 school year, please contact admissions before applying, as many of our grades are full.
If you are interested in the 2026-27 school year, please fill out an enquiry form and the admissions team will be in touch. Please note that your application will only be considered for the specific school year for which you are applying for. Receipt of an application does not hold a place.
If you still have any questions before applying to our school, do not hesitate to email or phone our admissions office. We are available to show you our campus and explore the possibility of enrollment.
Kind regards,
MIS Admissions Team
Denise Hitchen, Lee Kim Briffa-Jaspers and Julie Kempe
Overview of Application Process

The intention of our admissions process is to get to know your child and to ensure that the school's educational provision matches your child's needs.
Step 1 - Submit Application Form and Application Fee
The first step in the admissions process is to complete the online application by clicking on the 'Submit Application' button above. You will be asked to complete a basic application form (4 sections, approximately 10 minutes) to begin the application process. Please note that there is a non-refundable application fee due at the time of application. The fee for each submitted school application is 330 EUR. If you believe you are exempt from the application fee, please contact us directly at: [email protected].
Once you have submitted your Application From and paid the Application Fee, the system will generate your OpenApply account where you will have access to your child's customized Checklist of Required Documents. You will be able to log into your account and access this Checklist from within your family's account in the Open Apply portal at any time. These documents are used to support your child's application.
Step 2 Complete Your Checklist of Required Documents
Complete the other items on the application checklist - some files can be filled out in OpenApply directly, others need to be uploaded to the platform. Please note that all documents written in a language other than English need to be accompanied by an unofficial translation. You will have access to your OpenApply dashboard at all times to access and review which items have been submitted and which Required Documents have not yet been submitted.
One of the Required Documents is the "Confidential Recommendation Form". Please first ask the academic/kindergarten teacher who you feel knows your child best to fill out the online form. Then insert the teacher's contact details (name, email address) and we will send them an email with a link to the form (available in English and German).
For families applying to Early Childhood through Grade 4 who are living in the Munich area, the Admissions Team may invite applicants to an Introduction Session on campus as part of the admissions process. These invitations are extended after the application and supporting documents have been reviewed.
During the visit, a small group of four to five applicants will take part in a selection of play-based activities and games. Our goal is to create a relaxed and welcoming environment where children feel comfortable and at ease. Your child will spend time with members of our Junior School team during the session. This visit helps us gain further insight into your child’s development, learning style, and readiness for school, complementing the information provided through the application and supporting documents.
Once all items have been submitted, the Admissions team will confirm the application is complete and your application will be passed on to the appropriate School Principal for review. After reviewing an application, we will notify you if your application has been accepted, waitlisted or declined. Application review typically takes 10-15 working days, but we endeavour to provide feedback as soon as possible.
Step 3 - Official Offer & Contract Signing
If a place is offered, parents/guardians will be notified and a letter of offer will be sent to you via email. The school contract and other documents will be made available via check list items in your personal dashboard. The contract should be returned by the date specified in your offer letter. The Registration Fee for the first year of enrolment of 2,021 EUR is payable upon signing the MIS School Contract.
*Please be aware of the following:
- Receipt of an application does not hold a place.
- Please be aware that we receive a large number of applications and spaces are limited.
- If your application has been waitlisted, we will not be able to tell you where you are on the waitlist and if/when a place may become available. For more information about our priority and waitlist, please read our Admissions Policy section.
- Please note that all decisions are final. A reason will not be provided, should an application be declined.
- We strongly discourage any attempt to influence a decision or gain advantage by approaching members of the board, faculty or staff. This may result in an application being declined.
Admissions Policy

Applicants can be admitted throughout the year based on the school’s judgement regarding the suitability to its highly rigorous academic program and space availability. MIS only accepts applications from students who will be living at home with at least one parent in the greater Munich area.
Applicants are admitted independently of their parents' financial situation and solely on the basis of the applicants' academic performance and individual strengths.
Testing and Screening
We do not have academic testing or interviews as standard, but these may be requested in some circumstances. This may include testing in mathematics and English.
Selection Priority & Waitlist
Selection Priority
Admission will be granted to applicants for whom the school’s programme is appropriate, who meet the criteria of the programme and who relate to the mission and values of the school. Not all students are suited to this type of programme and MIS takes very seriously the happiness and well-being of all students, so they can be successful in this type of learning environment. The selection of students will be based upon demonstrated academic proficiency and appropriate behaviour, as well as attitude to school and study habits. Admission will also depend on the availability of places. When determining admission, preference shall be given to applicants in the following order of priority:
- Internationally mobile students who do not have reasonable educational alternatives in Germany.
- Siblings already attending MIS.
- Children of alumni and students returning to MIS after a leave of absence.
- All other applicants.
Waiting List
If a place is offered on our waitlist we would not be able to inform families where a student is on the waitlist and if/when a place may become available. The waitlist will be reviewed on the following dates: 5 May and 4 August 2026. Given the school’s priority system, a student’s position on the waiting list may change if there are subsequent applications that carry a higher priority.
Applicants transferring from the German School system
Applicants who have German as their first language, have resided in German most of their lives, and/or have been educated in the German system (and thus have a local alternative to MIS) will be expected to demonstrate compatibility with the international character of the school and a high level of academic proficiency. Applicants applying to Middle or Senior School are expected to have qualified for placement in or promotion within a Gymnasium.
Applicants for Grade 5 transferring from the "Grundschule" must also submit their Final Grade 4 Report Card (Übertrittszeugnis) when this becomes available. Applicants are expected to have achieved a grade average of 2.0 or better to be considered for admission to Grade 5 (German grading scale: 1= excellent to 6 = poor).
Special Needs/Academic Support
Learning Support services are available to all MIS students who demonstrate academic needs beginning in Early Childhood and up through Grade 12. As a faculty, we aspire to the pedagogical principles of Universal Design for Learning by carefully designing learning opportunities to best meet the needs of all learners. We serve students with exceptional talents through a range of strategies delivered within the mainstream classroom. Students with learning needs may also be eligible for classroom and assessment accommodations. Learning Support Teachers provide targeted instructions based upon students' individual needs in small groups and in whole class lessons. MIS does not have the facilities or personnel required to serve the educational needs of students who have significant learning, mental, emotional or physical disabilities.
Students applying to MIS must provide the school with copies of recent psychological, clinical or school testing, and evaluation reports, translated into English, if necessary.
Checklist of Required Documents

Below is an overview of the Required Documents. Some documents are required for students regardless of the grade they are applying for, and some documents are specific to only certain grades or situations. Once you have submitted your Application Forms and paid the Application Fee, you will be able to access your child's Checklist within your OpenApply Account. Your application will not be reviewed until all of the Checklist of Required Documents is completed. Application review typically take 10-15 working days.
All records/reports must be submitted in their original language and include an unofficial English translation (saved and uploaded as one document).

Do You Know Which Grade Level to Apply For?

Depending on the age of your child as well as the hemisphere and/or school system you are coming from, you might need help to determine which grade level to apply for at MIS. Students coming from a school calendar that starts in January and ends in the same year, will be placed in the grade level they have just completed (i.e. they must repeat a semester). We are prepared to consider advancement if the child is age-appropriate for the higher grade level, has a strong academic background and does not have any other issues, such as being an English language learner.
