Issue # 110 Chasing Autumnal Gold
A few of our favourite photos from the season so far...
Hello! How is autumn treating you so far? As I’ve written before, as someone who works outside most of the time, I have a complicated relationship with autumn; the days are darker, wetter, colder and the work is generally more gruelling as it switches from making things to lugging chainsaws and other tools over long distances in the name of conservation.
On the other hand, autumn is no doubt one of the most aesthetically pleasing seasons, brimming with opportunities for seeking photographic gold. With that here are some of our favourite images of the season so far…
It’s been a gloomy kind of season thus far, short on golden light, yet still and calm for the most part allowing the yellowing leaves to linger, bestowing the landscape with a warm glow in the absence of sunlight.

There’s not been much time for mountain adventures, but we’ve been on the water in our canoe and out in the woods and by the river for both work and pleasure a lot.

One thing I love about this time of year is the interplay between leaves and water. Little echoes left behind, tracing hidden patterns of flow and current, tiny pools of copper and gold.

It’s been a good autumn for fungi hunting too. And, for plant galls, like the amazing cherry galls on this oak leaf…

Well, that’s all for now. We’re packing up our van in preparation for a short trip to Scotland next week, which if the weather is kind will include a few days canoeing and camping - wish us luck!
With warmest wishes,
Andrew, Emma and Benji
