We reduce our carbon footprint wherever we can. No one has to be perfect, but the platform makes our many small steps visible and thus encourages others. The anonymous summaries also show politicians that behavioral changes are already happening in many areas. These can then be complemented by government measures.
Politics must set and adhere to binding climate targets in all areas (e.g., energy supply, mobility, buildings, industry, agriculture). Corporations must stop shifting the costs arising from climate and environmental damage onto society. This petition is designed as an ongoing activity: we keep the issue visible and act together.
The fossil fuel industry used the concept of carbon footprint to shift sole blame to individuals. We are reclaiming that term to capture our responsibility as individuals and households. Both individual and societal actions are needed.

What we demand
We, the signatories of this permanent petition, demand from our respective governments:

Recognition of the situation. Publication of the scientifically supported statements (Scientists4Future 2024):
- The continuation of human civilization is extremely endangered by the climate catastrophe.
- The CO₂ concentration in the air is far too high (0.43 ‰). The IPCC shows a pathway (SSP1-1.9 “1.5°C pathway”) that gives humanity the best chance of survival.
- This pathway has a target value of 0.35 ‰ by the year 2150 — already now, hundreds of gigatonnes too much CO₂ are in the air.
- We must radically change course now, even if years too late.

A socially equitable transformation by 2040 to achieve full climate neutrality.

A socially equitable phase-out of subsidies for fossil fuels.

Inclusion of all relevant sectors: energy supply, transport, buildings, industry, agriculture
Why this platform is different
We are not a click petition. We are an organized group of people taking action: all signatories affirm that they will make their personal contribution — both in terms of their footprint (reducing their own emissions) and their handprint (amplifying impact on others and political engagement).
Our actions become visible and can serve as a role model for others. Via push notification or email (both optional), signatories can stay up to date and receive scientifically vetted information about possible actions. Before elections, election programs are reviewed by fact-checking organizations and the results are forwarded accordingly. According to a representative study by the Research Institute Social Cohesion, Leipzig, 71% of Germans are in favor of more climate protection (FGZ 2025: 29). 67% are themselves trying to contribute to climate protection. In other countries, the proportions are likely similar. This platform is intended to make these people visible, show what they already do personally, and feed back into society through voting recommendations and other political activities.
You can think of the signatories as a virtual party with only two main goals: climate protection and biodiversity conservation. These goals can only be achieved if political issues such as lobbying and democratic participation (e.g., via citizens’ assemblies) are addressed and resolved. The signatories’ contributions in these areas are made visible in anonymized form and then also serve as an incentive for others.
If we become 20 million, our activities will also have an impact within political parties. We will be impossible to ignore.
The platform is designed to be international so that a worldwide community can emerge here.
Who is behind this platform
This platform was developed by volunteer supporters of the climate movement. It is data-minimizing (we do not store any email address, name, or place of residence), multilingual, and transparent (the code is open source).
