Jaime squirmed under Superman's intense gaze as they hovered over Metropolis. This was a lot less pleasant than his last team-up with Superman.
"I'm glad you came, Jaime. I don't want this to feel like an interrogation, but it's very important to me that I get to talk to you about this."
"Sure. I get it." Jaime gulped. "So what do you want to know?"
"You and Kara have been dating for a while now, right? A few months?"
"Yeah, we were on and off while she was on New Krypton, but now that she's back we're official. I really care about her, so - "
"I have no doubt about that. You're clearly a step above the last two boys Kara was involved with - the ex-con and the Apokaliptan lunatic. You've obviously achieved a lot in your short time as a hero, and - hold on."
Superman sped off in a blur of blue and red. Jaime hovered there, twiddling his thumbs as he waited for him to return.
"Sorry. Had to help out some firefighters. As I was saying, my problem isn't with you. I'm just worried about Kara. She's been through a lot of emotional upheaval lately, and I don't want to see her get hurt."
"I'd never hurt her."
"I know, and I know I'm not Kara's father, but I'm the closest thing she's got on Earth. So I'm naturally protective of her - even if my wife would likely chew me out for being so old-fashioned. I suppose I'm hear to ask you about your intentions."
Jaime's Scarab beeped loudly, in a way that he knew was its own unique kind of laughter. He tried to stifle his own. But it was a decent question, and one he wasn't afraid to answer. "Honestly? I don't know. Kara and I...we're young. We're both 16. I don't even know what classes I'm taking next year, let alone what I'm doing for the rest of my life. But I do know that Kara's probably the most awesome girl I've ever met. She's had an insane life, survived so much...but she's such a good person. I feel like being with her makes me want to live up to the legacy that she wears on her chest. And I think I give her a little bit of the normal stuff that she never got to have. We work. And I don't know if I've totally blown it or what, but I'm going to keep seeing her, and I hope you approve, because your opinion means a lot to me."
Jaime held his breath as Superman eyed him. Superman cracked a smile and laid his hand on Jaime's shoulder. "I'm glad Kara's dating a boy as decent as you. You can breathe now."
Jaime let out a deep breath. "Man, that was intense. I can't believe I just got quizzed on my intentions by Superman."
"Well, you alleviated any worries I may have had, son. And I know you two will be responsible. Because I've met your parents, and we have each other's phone numbers."
Superman smiled slyly as Jaime gulped. "Understood, sir."
-----
Jaime flew into Kara's room as she sat up. "You survived!"
"Yeah." Jaime grinned. "It was intense, but he seems to approve. It means a lot, knowing that Superman is behind us seeing each other."
"Of course, I totally wasn't going to stop if he told me to." Kara said as she kissed Jaime. "He's nice and all, but way overprotective."
"Yeah, I know. My parents are the same way."
"Oh, man." Kara's face suddenly turned serious. "Your mom's totally going to want to give me the third degree at some point, isn't she?"
"Oh, yeah. And trust me - Superman has nothing on Bianca Reyes."
"Hold me."
Kara playfully threw herself into Jaime's arms. Dating in the superhero world was always interesting, but it was worth it.
