Rose closed her eye and let the cool sea breeze wash over her. Meditating always helped to take the edge off. Her body was tired, her mind was full of concerns, and she was ready for this pregnancy to be over. Being here, on this tropical island thousands of miles from home, was wonderful, but at the same time she was worried about all the things that could go wrong. She trusted M'gann, but this seemed insane.

"I brought you some fresh guava. Your favorite, right?"

Rose craned her neck around to see M'gann walking down the beach. "Thanks! Give. I'm starving."

M'gann sat down next to Rose and handed her the fruit. She smiled as her girlfriend dug in. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling nine months pregnant." Rose said in between bites. "Remind me why I thought it was a good idea for us to have sex with you in guy-form? Even if you were a really hot guy."

"I'm sorry you're uncomfortable." M'gann said as she stroked Rose's hair. "It'll be over soon. And then we'll have a child together. Created from our love."

"In the middle of nowhere, though? What if something goes wrong?"

"It's important for a martian child to be born in a climate of peace and tranquility." M'gann smiled. "The first psychic imprint it receives is critically important. This child will be born sensing our love, and not any of the chaos of the world around it."

"Well, I guess one plus of being out here is that no one gets to see me scream. Can't have anyone see the deadly Ravager freak out while giving birth, right?"

"Our child's a shapeshifter, Rose. It should be relatively painless for you once I'm able to establish a psychic link with our child." M'gann leaned in and gently kissed Rose. "Anything I can do to make this easier on you. You've done the hard part."

"Damn. Did I pick the right species to get pregnant by, huh?" Rose grinned. "Any chance you could psychic link right now, tell the kid to hurry up a little?"

"Some things have to happen at their own pace." M'gann said as she rested a hand on Rose's stomach. "I can't wait to meet our child."

M'gann helped Rose up, and they walked along the beach, watching the sun rise. As a new day dawned on this tropical paradise, it seemed like they were the only people in the world.

"I've got to tell you, Meg, you've had worse ideas. This place is - Ng!" Rose groaned suddenly.

"Rose!"

Rose smiled through gritted teeth. "Looks like I'm getting my wish."

M'gann helped Rose lie down on the beach. "Just stay calm. I'll guide you through this. It'll be over before you know it."

"I trust you."

"I love you, Rose."

M'gann leaned in and kissed Rose passionately, then focused in on the nascent mind growing inside her. This was the most important moment of their life, but she knew everything would be okay. Their child would enter the world, surrounded by its mothers' love, here far away from the sounds of chaos and violence that engulfed the world. She gripped Rose's hand, vowing to get her through this as easily as possible, and established the psychic link with their child.

"Hi, baby. Don't be afraid."
