darthbatgirl for her request of "Peter/Bobby, jealous" in my Mood Challenge. This is set in the Ultimate Universe, in an AU where Jessica came to live with Peter's family after the clone saga, and Peter and Bobby are dating. Also, fuck Ultimatum and everything it represents.
"My life sucks."
"Come on, Pete, it's not that bad. I mean, at least Ol' JJJ is laying off someone."
Peter picked up the Daily Bugle and playfully flung it in Bobby's face. "Look at this! 'Amazing Spider-woman rescues cat from tree.' She even got to pose for a picture with the firefighters! Remember when I saved Jonah from the Scorpion last month? He pepper-sprayed me, the police started shooting, and I had to swing out of there without being able to see!"
Bobby shrugged. "Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug, I guess."
"I'm never the windshield." Peter collapsed on the bed, sulking.
Bobby sat down on the bed next to Peter. "Hey, you know this is all unimportant, right? I mean, it's one step above high school politics. You're out there, kicking ass every day, and no one appreciates it. I've got the X-men backing me up all the time. It's easier. But you do this on your own. And it might suck ass now, but you're going to be the best of us because of it. Everything they throw at you just makes you stronger. And you're going to prove them all wrong. Especially JJJ and his stupid haircut."
"Thanks. I just don't get it. Why does the Bugle love Jessica all of a sudden? Whatever happened to 'masked menace'?"
"Dude, the media loves girls in masks. You and I, they could care less about. Besides, not everyone can appreciate just how hot a good-looking guy in spidey-pajamas is."
Bobby leaned down and kissed Peter. Peter sat up, smiling. "You're great. Even if they aren't pajamas. I just...kind of wish I'd get a job-well-done every once in a while. It gets tiring, trying to do good and never getting any recognition for it."
Suddenly the door to Peter's bedroom burst open. Peter and Bobby pulled apart, fully expecting to see a furious Aunt May glaring at them. Instead, Jessica ran into the room, hurriedly changing out of her Spider-woman outfit and waving a copy of the Bugle.
"Pete! Did you see this? I made the front page!" She grinned wildly.
"Yeah, I saw." Peter faked a grin. "Congrats, sis. I've been on the cover a few times too. Never so positive, though."
"I know. JJJ sucks. Still! It's pretty cool." She ran up to Peter and hugged him. "Thanks. If it wasn't for you looking out for me, convincing Aunt May to let me stay here...I'd still be on the run. I wouldn't get the chance to be a hero. None of this would have been possible without you."
Peter felt his face turning red. "Hey...you're family. What else could I do?"
"Not everyone would see their randomly-appearing girl-clone as family, Pete. Don't sell yourself short, big bro." Jessica gave Peter one last squeeze. "I've got to go show this to Aunt May!"
As Jessica ran out of the room, Bobby grinned. "Still feel unappreciated?"
"I guess not. How can I stay pissed off with you two around?"
"So...if you're in a better mood, I guess I shouldn't go ahead with my plan to freeze all of JJJ's boxers solid tonight?"
"Hey, I said I was in a better mood, not a forgiving one! Some opportunities are too good to pass up." Peter laughed. It was good to have friends and family who appreciated what he did, even if the rest of the world was a little slower at it.
