Oh wow, it's been forever since I updated this thing. I got kind of got distracted. By like. A lot.

Anyway.

First of all, I hope everyone had a happy holiday. Mine was pretty good. :3

Secondly, with all LJ's recent bullshit I am probably going to move over to my dreamwidth account, etcetera, for actual journal-type blogging. Though I clearly don't update very often lately, but still. Just an FYI, if anyone wants to add me there.

TV ramblings

So, I'm actually excited about TV for the first time in a year or more. I've become pretty disinterested in a lot of the stuff that gets aired in the US over the past couple of years. There are a couple of shows I follow (Glee, at the moment. True Blood, in the summer), but I'm not particularly enthusiastic about them at this point. But between Camelot, The Borgias and Game of Thrones, that's changing.

I watched Camelot this weekend and enjoyed it a lot. Admittedly I went in with a heavy Arthurian bias. I eat adaptations of those legends up, and have for years. There are only a few modern reworkings of the legends I've disliked. So, I was most excited about this one and I wasn't disappointed. At least not yet. Oh, there were some problematic elements, but it looks like an intriguing take on the legend and the series is seriously gorgeous. The sets, the cinematography, and the music are all A+, and the costumes are....interesting, if not always practical.

Also I love this kind of portrayl of Merlin. Where he's ambiguous, manipulative and enigmatic. It makes me happy. I'm also really interested in Morgan, who has the potential to be awesome in this. Though the character could also go really wrong, depending on the writing. But I'm going to try to be optimistic because I was really liking her by the end of the second episode. And she and Merlin have the potential to be extremely hot. I'm shallow, yes.

I wasn't able to watch The Borgias tonight, but I recorded it and I'm looking forward to watching it because kyaaaa the Italian Renaissance. And I've always been interested in the Borgias. They are so fucked up.

Game of Thrones is the one I'm most dubious about because I didn't actually like the books when I tried to read them, but that doesn't mean I won't like the TV adaptation so I'm going to give it a try, at least.

I also watched the premiere of Body of Proof last week, and I'm not usually a fan of crime shows (with the exception of Criminal Minds, when I happen to catch it), but I was impressed. I liked Dana Delany's charcter quite a bit and was pleased to see a TV show revolving around a woman who's over the age of 50 and whose character is driven and ambitious. So I'll probably keep an eye on that, too.

This is the first chapter I've had anything to say about in awhile.

Okay, so I didn't care that much about Hanzou and barely understood what was happening last week because I had a fever and very little of anything was making sense. But! I am super gleeful that he resisted Kabuto's control. I AM REALLY HOPING THIS BECOMES A TREND. Because I totally want this whole zombie army thing to bite Kabuto in the ass. Hard. It would be so much lulz.

Also I'm loving the stuff with InoShikaChou. And I love that it's Chouji being the one to get all emotional and hesitate. Because the easy, typical thing to do would be to make Ino do that because she's the girl of the group. But, no, she's being pretty hardcore and hot right now. A+++

There's a lot going on in these chapters. I think this is one of those arcs that would be more fun to read once it's done so you can just marathon through it rather than waiting a week between each one.

HOWEVER. A few things struck me.

Lots of awesome Hyuuga moments in this chapter.

OKAY I'm not going to lie my favorite thing about this chapter was Suigetsu. I HAVE MISSED HIM. Also I totally want him to see the fight with the Seven Swordsman, it would be great.

And I think this chapter was best summed up as follows:

Need to do list for the next 24 hours:

✯ Find wrapping paper and tags
✯ Finish decorating the tree
✯ Wrap presents
✯ Make cranberry sauce
✯ Make cinnamon rolls
✯ Possibly make one last run to the grocery store.

This would all be easier if I had any motivation at all. But let's see what I can do.

I really only have three things to say about this chapter.

I enjoyed seeing Zabuza and Haku talking to Kakashi and Sakura. I wasn't sure I would, but it was kind of neat.

And Hinata and Neji fighting back to back was hot. Not in a shippy way (for me). But just. Fucking awesome.

And on a less positive note, I still don't care about Kabuto beyond just hoping that he gets eaten by his own zombies.

I have trouble taking the badassness of Kabuto's zombie technique seriously when it's so easy to take them out. Two of them have been taken out already, and I know there are like TONS MORE, but the ones that have been defeated were taken out with like, love and motivational speeches rather than any real fighting, so. Yeah. I want Kabuto to get bitten in the ass somehow, though. He is too arrogant about how nothing could possibly go wrong with the technique. And I want the ass biting to be more epic than just his zombies being beaten by a mild shounen jesusing.

Also, I wonder if Shisui's body not not being found will be significant at some point. I am curious. And my Uchiha bias is clear.

So, I haven't read Bleach in a couple of weeks. I keep forgetting or getting distracted. I'm trying to decide whether or not I should bother going back to it. I know it hasn't been so bad lately, and the lack of Aizen helps a lot, but after the last arc, I can't help but feel disappointment and frustration are inevitable. Still, I read all the bullshit with Aizen, could whatever happens now really be worse than that?

Okay, Konan is badass. And hot. And generally awesome. I'm a little sad the fight didn't last longer, but she did deal more damage to Madara than anyone else so far, and just about any confrontation with Madara is going to be short at this point since he has more plot relevance than most anyone else except for Sasuke and Naruto.

Speaking of Madara, he is still a troll.

Also, I am pretty indifferent to Nagato apparently being an Uzumaki. :|a Oh well.

Seeing Itachi and Kisame's first meeting amused me. Itachi was so hilariously unimpressed, and saw through Kisame in like two seconds. And he had his Uchiha Bitch Face firmly in place during the entire conversation. It was great.

And, okay. So, I never bought into the fanon idea that they were close, and I still don't think they were ever what you would call friends and I still think Kisame enjoyed trolling Itachi. But! I can actually see them having respect for each other now, whereas before I wasn't quite sure, considering how different their ideals and loyalties were.

Anyway, in spite of Itachi's appearance and me having a huge Uchiha bias, I have to say the best thing about this chapter? Was the last page. Fuck yessss, Konan.

Name your five favorite evil characters.

Saying "evil characters" rather than "villains" makes this question kind of hard because evil is actually really difficult to pull off well. It's very easy to fall into traps that make evil characters boring or absurd (or in the case of Aizen from Bleach both). So thinking of 5 characters who really are evil and still interesting and/or likable took some pondering. But I managed.

I don't have much to say besides this was a cute chapter. Naruto calling out Kisame was A+ and Gai was hilarious.

I also liked that Naruto acknowledged both his father and his mother as shinobi to aspire to. :3

I am bitter. I knew this would happen and I'm still bitter. I was almost interested in Gin but then Aizen turned into a butterfly in a vagina and idefk I am so sick of this pattern of events. The only thing that makes it better is that frogdance accurately predicted what would happen with pokemon.
