COMIC CON 2011
WAS SO GOOOOOOOODDDDD!!!
This is just a post to remember what happened throughout the days. I don't want to be forgetting.
Preview Night: Archie and Dinosaur Comics
I got wicked lost trying to find parking at a trolley stop. XD I ended up BARELY making it to the lines at 8:00 when they close at 8:30! Luckily everyone had already filed in, so I was in and out pretty fast.
In the exhibition hall, I was wandering around when I ran into the ARCHIE booth. Victor Gorelick (the editor in chief of Archie since ALWAYS) was there and I was FREAKING OUT. Like literal fangirling, it was almost embarrassing. XD I ended up buying the best of Archie from all the years and another graphic novel. Victor Gorelick ended up signing my Best Of copy and taking a photo with me. :3 I think I freaked him out a bit though. :\
After that I was looking around when I realized that they were selling DINOSAUR COMIC WHITEBOARDS, and I knew I *had* to buy it for Trevor. I looked up and...LO AND BEHOLD RYAN NORTH, the creator of Dino Comics, was standing RIGHT there. I had another stupid fangirl moment and had him sign the board for Trev, but god I'm so embarrassing. XD Gotta keep myself in check.
I only had an hour until they closed, but I wandered around everywhere anyways. I was tempted to buy the entire Bone collection and get Jeff Smith to sign it, but it was a hefty $40. ~__~
I did buy *some* comics, but not a whole lot. I knew Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon had a booth, so I ended up buying Daytripper from a stall and holding onto it since I knew I'd run into them later on. That's about it for my Preview Night hour. D:
Thursday: Wilfred and Daytripper
I had to work half of the day. ~__~a I didn't want to end up losing TWO whole days worth of money, so I gritted my teeth through it. I wanted to get to Archer by 4:00pm, but I arrived JUST exactly at that time. There was no way I was going to make it inside too. XD So Trevor and I met up and started walking around. I got Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba to sign my Daytripper copy, so that was neat!
We then went to go see the Wilfred panel. TBH I like Wilfred alright, the humor can get a little too vulgar and obvious for me, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE ELIJAH WOOD and I was FREAKING OUT that he was right there in front of me. The panel got kinda boring kinda fast after they aired an ep though, so we peaced out.
It was getting kinda late (~7pm?) and so we grabbed dinner and wandered around Gaslamp to see what was happening. Cartoon Network had this really neat promo where they took a pizza place (Ciro's) and turned it into an Adventure Time pizza parlor. They also had people with TV's attached to their backs to be placeholders for people in line. AND giant versions of the characters running around downtown San Diego screaming "WHAT TIME IS IT?!" It was great. XD
Friday: Junko Mizuno, Robot Chicken, and SMBC
I showed up at 8am to get in line for pre-reg tickets but they were already SOLD OUT. Apparently they start lining up for them at 5am. ~__~;;
Got in line for Ballroom 20 in order to see The Walking Dead, but the line was so insane that I literally had to give up as soon as it was 10 minutes before. (I wasn't even IN the building!!!)
I did get to see JUNKO MIZUNO though!!! *O * I had her sign my "Little Gigolo Pelu" book and sketch for me in my moleskine! I also ran over to see the dudes from SMBC and had them all sketch for me too. XD (It was a phase, what can I say?) I was really amped to get the writer and artists for Fables to sign my crap, so Trevor got in line for Robot Chicken and I waited for Fables creators to make my day. I've already met Bill Willingham and Steve Leialoha, but Mark Buckingham was new for me and he was SUPER nice! They all signed my Fables #106 and my moleskine!
Robot Chicken was pretty funny. They all just made fun of each other and were really chill. We were there for Black Dynamite too, which was really funny in its own different way. But Trev and I were totally there for Robot Chicken. :3
After that we wandered around some more. I tried to refrain from buying too many things, but I did get a book that helped me start up my freelancing career as a designer, so that was neat! 30% off too! :'D
Saturday: Futurama, Simpsons, Family Guy, Fables
This time I left at 4:30am to get in line at like, 5:30am. XD I totally made it in though, so I'm officially pre-registered for Comic Con 2012! SCHWEET.
Anyways, right after that I tried to get in line for Ballroom 20 again, and luckily it wasn't so bad. (I got out of line for pre-reg at around 9am.) So Trev and I got into the panels for TerraNova, some new dinosaur-colony-whatever tv show that honestly looked a little dumb. XD
We got to stick around for Futurama, which was funny. They previewed their anime episode, and Matt Groening + artist for Futurama ended up battling it out to see who drew the best Bender. After that was Simpsons, which was surprisingly funny despite no actors or no clips or....anything really. :S Family Guy was pretty good, especially when they started asking the sign-language translator to translate a bunch of dirty words. XD (Seth Green = dirty floppy hobo penis; Alex Borstein = bull shit).
We hung out at the exhibition hall a little more after that. Just looking at everything else we didn't get to look at already.
We got in line early for Fables, as I anticipated that it would get packed sooner than later. Got to see panels for Jim Lee and Jonathan Hickman, but omg FABLES was so good! They always do this thing where they ask for random ass things that no one would normally have, and if you have it they give you awesome presents. One question was really hard, where you had to name all of the lands that Boy Blue visited in the Homelands. They had taken it out of the wiki's and stuff, so you had to look it up through other means. The winner got a real working horn with the case signed by ALL OF THE FABLES PEOPLE. ALL OF THEM. ALL!!!!!! EVEN THE SPINOFFS!!!! AUGHHHHH anger!
The worst part is I actually had that graphic novel, but I left it at home. ~__~ I'm retarded.
Sunday: Buying Stuff
We had a slightly late day since we were pretty beat up. No panels today. I just went through the exhibit hall buying some discounted books (illustrated Ramayana, by the guy who does Pixar art) and getting things signed. (Return of the Dapper Men!)
I also ran into Doc Hammer, the creator of Venture Bros and had him take a pic + sign my moleskine. He was totally cracked out though. XD
And that was Comic-Con! Can't wait til next year!!!
