RAGE QUITTING

Shittiest lineup since 2008 UGH. Kings of Leon, really? Kanye?!?!? ARCADE FIRE?! Three headliners of serious BLECH. Even the subheadliners are slightly underwhelming. And the undertitled bands? They're...ok I guess. From what I've heard from a lot of them, it seems like blended hipstertrash music that will attract a lot of hipstertrash bros who will snort coke and go party like they could've done if they were in the middle of their rented flat and a stereo system.

The bands I would see skim the amount of 15. Not bad, right? However, the bands I've already seen in the past 2 hours reduces the bands I would see down to....hmm 6 bands. Wow. $300 for 6 bands huh? Sounds like a grand time, Coachellie.

For the sake of being pissy about this horrifying lineup, let me demonstrate and comment on how GREAT Coachella used to be, catering to a really great indie and low-ground alt rock music. Yes, this used to be a rock festival. Who would've thought.

My year last year. Not too bad. I got to see a lot of good bands, and I didn't have time for all the ones I wanted to see, like Dirty Projectors, Beach House (who I got to see later on anyways so no biggie), Fever Ray, and Yo La Tengo. So really the bands I saw were the ones I really have never seen before and wouldn't tour too often again. The headliners were alright. Gorillaz was a THRILL.

Seriously, AMAZING. Paul McCartney?! A FUCKING BEATLE CAME TO PLAY AT COACHELLA. AWESOME! Despite only going on Sunday out of Yeah Yeah Yeahs bias, the other two days had SO many better bands that I would've kicked a baby for a free 3 day pass. I mean, jesus, THE CURE. These people made HISTORY IN MUSIC. (Ok, not so much The Killers....) Fuck son, I would kick a baby just to see Morrissey live. :x This was seriously the best lineup since 2007.

Meh. Oh I'm sorry, was I supposed to give a fuck about Jack Johnson? Not a 12 year old girl. :< I have to give this year props for having really good undertitle bands though. But to be fair, EVERY COACHELLA LINEUP SHOULD HAVE A GREAT UNDERTITLE LINEUP. Although for this year, I would have been fine to have left out Sunday entirely. Maybe Sat too. Hmm...

And now I present to you, the golden year of 2007. The best year, IMO, to have existed in the past years that I have been aware of Coachella. Bjork. Red Hot Chili Peppers. I mean, jesus christ they have Jesus and Mary Chain (hurr hurr) and fucking SONIC YOUTH playing in ONE GOD DAMN DAY. WITH BJORK. These people renovated the image of rock music...and music as a whole! Even on Sat the undertitles are so so soooooooooooo good. Sure Sunday is a bit lacking, but it has been the best Sunday set I've ever seen. THIS WAS JUST...THE BEST YEAR FOR COACHELLA HANDS DOWN

Very very very good set. They really balanced out having majority of the bands be rock bands and then inject in some electro and pop\twee bands, which I believe should be every lineup composition. Clap Your Hands, Imogen Heap, Test Icicles, Mates of State, and dude....SECRET MACHINES. I would love to see them play again!!!

So that's the end of my rant. My general conclusion is thus;

Kings of Leon? Arcade Fire? Kanye? Sure the latter two are groundbreaking I guess, but they're sharing a stage once occupied by Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bjork, and jesus THE CURE. These guys were such markers in music, and they definitely don't deserve it.

Not to mention that a lot of undertitle bands seem to be sort of hipster-trashy music rather than the classic indie rock/pop/folk that used to be so instrumental and thrilling to hear. I'm seriously disappoint. I theorized that Coachella would sell out at some point and just stat catering towards some younger 15-year old themed crowd, and you know what.....I was right.
