Five Years of Resilience: Why June is a Month of Pure Celebration
RESILIENCE after . . .
Five years ago this month—in June of 2021; my world shifted in an instant. I suffered a stroke.
When you survive something that fundamentally threatens your mobility, your voice, and your future, "anniversaries" take on a completely different meaning. They aren't reminders of what was lost; they are vibrant, hard-won celebrations of survival, recovery, and deep resilience.
That is exactly why I recently renamed this publication The Resilient Canvas.
For me, the canvas has always been a space for carefree exploration, a place to rebuild mobility through pure, un-perfectionist fun, and a mirror for the healing process itself. But true resilience isn't just about what happens in the art studio. It is a full-body, whole-hearted commitment to honoring this one life we have.
Nourishing the Canvas: Bringing Art and Health Together
To celebrate making it to this incredible five-year milestone, I am taking radical control of my health foundation. Art and wellness are deeply intertwined; a creative mind thrives best when the body feels vibrant and supported.
Lately, I’ve fully embraced a Whole Food Plant-Based lifestyle, and I've set a firm, joyful goal to lose 50 pounds. This dietary transition isn't about restriction, it's t's about fueling the body with pure, vibrant ingredients that lower inflammation, skyrocket energy, and protect the brain. Every colorful, plant-based meal I prepare feels like a continuation of the artwork I create: intentional, vibrant, and deeply nourishing.
We are rebuilding from the inside out, ensuring that the next five years—and the decades beyond—are filled with strength and motion.
What’s Coming to The Resilient Canvas This June?
Because this entire month is a celebration of art and resilience, I have some incredible content lined up for you. June is going to be packed with inspiration: The Art & Resilience Series. I will be sharing regular posts exploring how the creative process helps us heal, adapt, and bounce back from life's biggest challenges.
Artist Interviews: I am thrilled to be hosting a series of interviews this month with remarkable artists. We’ll be diving deep into their creative processes, their inspirations, and how they navigate their own artistic journeys.
Behind-the-Scenes: I’ll be taking you inside my own creative kitchen and art studio space, sharing how a vibrant, plant-based lifestyle and a carefree approach to watercolor or acrylics go hand-in-hand.
Join the Celebration!

This month, I challenge you to look at your own life as a canvas. It doesn't matter if it feels messy, or if you've had to paint over a few mistakes. What matters is that you keep showing up to add color.
Leave a comment below: What is one milestone, big or small, that you are celebrating in your life right now?
Here’s to five years of resilience, and a beautiful month of celebration ahead.
