As you might have seen I'm stepping down as a moderator on Stack Overflow.

It's something I've been thinking about for a while, for various reasons, but the main reason is that I'm hoping to retire from my job by the end of the year and as a result I won't have to sit at a computer all day every day so I won't have nearly as much "free" time to moderate. I have already reduced my moderation effort and the election seemed a good time to step down.

Actually, I'm stepping down as a moderator from everywhere - though I'll only lose my diamonds once elections have been held, I suppose for my replacement. So over the next few weeks/months you'll see the diamonds going one by one. I might even remember to update my profiles!

I don't know how much time I'll be online in the future, but I will be around from time to time.

You were the original Glorfindel: a moderator for all sites (almost literally). It was impressive to see someone hold so many diamonds. While we never interacted much, you were a venerable hand in the mod rooms, adding constructive comments to conversations.

Your departure marks the last of the high-flag handlers as well. Your record speaks for itself here. You will be missed.
