The weather outside -was- frightful

We lost power around 1 AM Thursday night/Friday morning. The apartment still doesn't have it back, which is why I'm at my grandparents right now. We think the hospice people mentioned my grandfather's condition to the power company and that enabled them to speed the process along, because he says this house only lost power for 6-7 hours.

Yesterday was cold and boring. Tried getting on Yahoo through the phone, but of course storms mess with the satellites and the entire mobile web thing was too much of a hassle to really be worth it. So I read, played electronic Battleship, and listened to the radio. Jeremy had it on the rock station. In the afternoon, they have something called The Men's Room, which always features a call-in question. And yesterday's was a wish list of sorts. One old-school toy, one big boy/big girl toy, and a board game. I had nothing better to do and a bit of battery left on my phone. So I called in.

My picks were, an original Cabbage Patch Doll, Nintendo Wii, and Life, respectively. After being on hold for 20 minutes, I get to say them on air. And while I know the guys like making fun of everything, nothing prepares you for having your own choices picked apart. Mentioning the Cabbage Patch Doll earned me a buzzer noise and them discussing housewives literally punching each other for them when they came out.

Of course, the Wii brought mention of the people breaking their TVs because they either aren't wearing the wrist strap or it's breaking. I had to explain why I like the game Life - it's random, funny, and the best part is doing really well while your sister has to pay a lot of money and go backwards. This gets them to start picking on me, personally, asking if I have issues with my sister and speculating that she's more successful than I am. My phone picks that moment to die. I have no chance to defend myself and get to hear the end of it. It was funny, but I simply wasn't prepared for their breed of insanity. Maybe I'll call again another time.

The only reason I slept through the cold night was because Jeremy let me borrow this very thick, faux mink blanket he got when he was in the Army in South Korea. That on top of the comforter I already had was good enough to keep my skinny ass warm. But waking up and having to change in the morning was terrible because of it. Did not want to get out from under the covers. And I had a bad dream on top of it all.

My grandparents have Vonage, so I may decide to take advantage of the fact it doesn't cost extra to call Canada and try to reach 2metaldog. And I promise that I will write the next energy drink fic as soon as I get power back at the apartment.
