Gay Rights

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

And because I'm one with the YouTube right now, I leave you with this bit of awesomeness. James McGreevey on TDS for anyone who's not seen it yet. I know you have! :P
Here's your chance

Okay I have a favor to ask. I'm working on a project for one of my classes and part of it involves getting an idea of what people think about me. That and, well, I guess I also need a little bit of honesty in my life and really, you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings here because I'm gearing up to hear them. All I ask is that you comment (and you can do it anonymously if you want) and leave me your thoughts on my good and bad qualities. What do you hate about me? What do you love? What do you wish I would do? What do you wish I would stop doing? What you ultimately want for me in my future?

Please, even if you don't wish to join me over at the new blog or even if you feel like you have nothing to say, please leave me a comment with something. All comments will be screened and IP logs will be turned off so don't worry, only I will see what you write and I won't even know it's you unless you tell me. And again, don't worry about hurting my feelings. I just want you to feel free to be as honest as you can.

Also, for those of you who feel like they barely know me, please leave me a comment with at least the impression you got from me during our the time that you have spent with me. Oh and one more thing, if you would like to join me at my new blog and did not receive an email with the link please email me / message me and let me know that you would like the link and I will get that right to you.

Thank you all in advance! If you help me with this, you are awesome :)

Monday Funnies

Okay so for you it's not going to be Monday morning tomorrow. But for me it is. And if you are like me and hate Mondays (don't we all?) then you are most definitely going to need some cheering up. So I give you my current :

Top Ten Reasons I Love the Internets:

10. If it wasn't for the internets taking over my life in high school, I probably would have ended up a lawyer and in court with this guy!

9. Because I seriously enjoy my freedom. No really, I do.

8. Because sometimes it's easier to read on the internet

7. Only on the internets can you find shit like this and this!

6. Because only on the internets can you see things that you don't see everyday!

5. Or play things that you otherwise wouldn't get to play with!

4. Or get ideas that you don't get everyday!

3. Only on the internet can you find more than five reasons why to wear this shirt!

2. Only on the internets can you find out about some of the most awesome things EVER!

And my number 1 reason for why I love the internets:
1. Only on the internet can you catch up with old celebrity crushes AND watch them at the same time!

Not it's your turn!

Brighter side of things...

Even Clinton says the government failed

I love him. For all those politicians out there talking your way around saying "failure", take advice from him. Just get it out there. Let it be known. For god sakes, grow some BALLS and speak out. Don't just write it on your forehead.

Wow. Just.... wow. If stupidity had a name, it might be the son of this woman. Oh, wait.

Read previous link first.
"But why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"
- Barbara Bush on ABC's "Good Morning America" on March 18, 2003, objecting to critics of the Iraq war speaking of how many would die.

* I'd post the link to the audio, but it's down at the moment. I will update when it's back up.

I'm such a family peson that I would die if I couldn't find mine. And if you notice, there is one particular part that states there is a sign with "Honore" scrawled on it. Honore is also the last name of the General that is down there kicking some ass and getting shit done. He, apparently, has a daughter and other relatives down there that he has yet to see. It's gotta be hard for him. Being down there, seeing the heinous conditions, and not even knowing if his family is alive. I guess I shouldn't say that much because from what I've read, he hasn't SEEN them, but he might have HEARD from them. I doubt it, at this point, but it's possible. I hope so.

"It's a misallocation of resources. Completely," said the Texas firefighter. Hell, I'll go hand out fliers to these people. Just let the TRAINED, READY FOR ACTION, CERTIFIED crew get to work. DAMNIT!

(from above article)

"Firefighters say they want to brave the heat, the debris-littered roads, the poisonous cottonmouth snakes and fire ants and travel into pockets of Louisiana where many people have yet to receive emergency aid."

Just like the turning away of donations and relief aide, just like locking the people in the city, in the Superdome... THIS IS A FUCKING CRIME!! You couldn't let the Wal-Mart trucks in because it was unsafe. You couldn't let the people walk themselves to safety because it was unsafe. Well here's a news flash! LEAVING THEM TO DIE IN A UNSANITARY SEST POOL WITH NO FOOD OR WATER FOR DAYS IS UNSAFE! So put that in your pipe and smoke it. Oh! And not letting these QUALIFIED, TRAINED, READY AND WILLING Firefighters in there is a FUCKING CRIME!

elorie has a great article about what Gore was up to (also, the link above is the first link on the list) You know, the guy we intially elected president even BEFORE 9/11. Cause, you know, there was a time that existed before that. And to be honest, times weren't too bad. I remember them quite well. I grew up in them.

From: the Knoxville News-Sentinel

About 140 people - mostly elderly and infirm - arrived Saturday at McGhee Tyson Airport on a chartered mercy flight from hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, welcomed to East Tennessee by a bright sun and a host of medical professionals straining at the reins to help their fellow human beings without regard to whether they were on the clock.

The displaced hurricane victims came to Tennessee on a hastily arranged flight, accompanied by doctors and carrying whatever they had in boxes, bags or, in one case, an old suitcase tied up with rope.

Former Vice President Al Gore arranged the flight and was on board, but he declined to take credit for the airlift, fearing it would be "politicized."

The patients and evacuees arrived aboard an American Airlines MD-80 about 3:15 p.m. The unloading process took almost two hours, as some walked hesitantly down a staircase beneath the rear of the aircraft. Others were rolled down a ramp from the front of the plane to waiting wheelchairs. Personnel from Rural/Metro and the Tennessee Air National Guard volunteered their services, as did others, to get the patients and evacuees loaded onto buses or ambulances for the ride to area hospitals to be assessed medically before going to a Red Cross shelter.

On hand to help with the operation were Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale and his wife, Claudia, still decked out in orange from having attended the University of Tennessee football game against Alabama-Birmingham. The county's first couple assisted medical staff in shuttling patients from the ramp to buses.

One of the doctors on board the flight was Dr. Anderson Spickard of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, who said he had a "personal and professional" relationship with Gore.

Spickard said Gore called him about 11 p.m. Friday to ask him to participate in the flight.

"The jet was chartered," he said. "It was a private effort."

Gore chartered the plane, but, Spickard said, "we'll decide who pays for it later."

The doctor said the patients on the plane traveled well and added that he was "pleased" with Knoxville and Knox County's response to the call for help.

The patients, he said, "didn't know what kindness" they would receive here.

Spickard said the plane would leave McGhee Tyson Saturday evening for Dallas, where he would spend the night before making another mercy flight, possibly to Chattanooga, Nashville or Chicago.

The plan had been to make two flights Saturday, Spickard said, but delays in getting to Knoxville meant that the plane could not get back to New Orleans before dark. And there are no landing lights at New Orleans International Airport.

Mayor Ragsdale said he was touched by some of the heart-wrenching stories the people told him as they disembarked from the plane.

One, he said, was a man of 80-plus years who described being on his roof for three days before being rescued. Another was in an attic that almost filled with water. A third was a man who got off the plane barefooted and with obvious skin trauma to his lower legs, who told the mayor of having to stand in water for 2-3 days.

"Some folks are mentally exhausted," he said. And, the mayor said, he has been notified that the Knoxville area can expect as many as 1,500 more evacuees in coming days.

Ragsdale said a meeting was held Friday afternoon - before the mercy flight was announced - that included representatives of his staff and Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam's, all area hospitals, Knoxville's Community Development Corporation, Child and Family Services, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Knox County Health Department to come up with a plan to mobilize in case of such an emergency.

"We didn't know this would happen," Ragsdale said. "It is fortunate we had the meeting."

He called Saturday "a very successful day."

Gore chose not to speak to the assembled media, but he was seen in a black T-shirt and jeans moving rapidly from one side of the plane to the other assisting with the off-loading operation.

And as she said: "No photo ops, but doing actual work. Imagine."

Edit:MoxieGrrrl has more here on the Gore aide.

I haven't finished it yet. I've barely gotten through the intro. But you will reach the point you know I'm talking about and you will laugh! I promise!

Edit: EVERYONE needs to read it. You all probably won't laugh, because it's really not that funny. Stephanie will because... well, just because (at atleast one line anyhow). But it really is an uplifting article.

Outright Political Aftermath

Mr.
Rove and Mr. Bush were in Texas, while Vice President Dick Cheney was at his Wyoming ranch."

and Condi was skipping Manhattan's finest looking for shoes.
Are you fucking KIDDING me?

Edit: As I try to gather information on various ways to help, I am also trying to grasp the complexity of this situation. I am thoroughly engrossed in the articles, the videos, the photos, just every bit of information I can get my hands on. While the political Right is trying to innundate us with this "hope is still alive. we will win." bullshit, people, the media even, are finally starting to rise up and call this administration on their continous ability to FAIL our country. In the land of the fucking FREE people have to wait DAYS just to be evacuated from one of the easiest cities to get to? Are you shitting me?

Anyway, while I continue to search and become thoroughly enraged, I have combined my previous posts into a much larger, more thorough (though definitely more ill-assembled post). Remember I started gathering the beginings of these links before any form of help arrived. Then when the smallest form of help arrived. And now that they are getting in there and getting wet, I'm not letting up.

we now return to what I have posted previously

In a moment I will update this post with info that I think everyone needs to see, Bush supporter or not (though I'm fairly sure that there are no Bush supporters on my FriendsList because I would have probably ripped your head off by now, or you know, you would have unfriended me). But for now, here's just a little bit on how to help. I know we can't all lend the helping hand that we would like, but here are a few ways to help out in small amounts. Small amounts, believe it or not, add up to a whole lot more than no amount.

Oxygen will donate $1 for every person who joins

People need food and a place to stay

American Red Cross

People need help finding loved ones.

Edit: A list of good and bad charities to give to

Note: from here on out, these links will be random. A few won't work because they are to videos that have not yet been uploaded. There are some remarks that won't make sense now that there is help. But bare with me. I will come back to update and edit this post. I am just doing my best to gather the information and post it as I go. I'd rather it be a mess and not lose information than it be tidy and lose the great pieces that everyone needs to see.

Oh! And if I see one more fucking video where the son argues with the Dad about the difference between "the army" and "the army RESERVES" I'm going to punch the next Army recruiter I see in the face. Right now? The same fucking thing. Just be real about it. Just put out an ad that says "you, yeah you without a job. you need a job? we'll pay you to fight our war." All I'm saying is just be REAL about it. Tell people what they are getting into. Don't tell them they are signing up for weekend bbqs and then send them off to war.

Stop telling me that you are GOING to help and just HELP already!

Right on Cooper

On Monday Night the Mayor had news

Here's the thing, why aren't people listening. We just let them sit and fester and ROT in a human waste sest pool while we "think" about how to get them out. While we "make plans" about how to get them out that SHOULD have been thought about and prepared for a head of time. Instead, we sit around, on vacation, and THINK (OMGZ WITH THE THINKING!!@11!!!) about how best to approach the situation. And TALK (OMGZ WITH THE SPEECHES!!!@11!!) about how "help is coming".

“Many of our citizens simply are not getting the help they need, especially in New Orleans, and that is unacceptable,” Bush said during his Saturday radio address, delivered from the White House Rose Garden.

So says he from THE WHITE HOUSE! FUCKING A..... *breathes* Send him and all of his cronies down there to clean up the mess. Just send them all to live in the Superdome for days without food or water. Then I want them to tell me that looting in time of need is a bad thing. Let them tell me that all looters need to be shot. Let them tell me that the women and children being raped had a choice to step up and say no. Let them tell me that the people there in the dome are/were completely safe and don't/didn't need the security and protection that they desreve.

It's like that old saying, "Don't worry, I got your back. Just WAAAAAAAAYYYY back."

Bush met for nearly an hour Saturday with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Chertoff and others involved in planning the recovery from Katrina.

OMGZ WITH THE MEETINGS!!!

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff just pisses me off.

Fucking Trent Lott (the movie will be up later)

"If you add up all the tax breaks for Americans who earned over $200,000 last year, it totals $69 billion," says Mike Lapham, codirector of Responsible Wealth. "Think about that next time a politican says we can't afford to invest in education, job training, or affordable housing."
~Responsible Wealth

But, but... I thought tax cuts are GOOD.

You know, I miss Clinton in office
And even though I think now would be the prime time for either Clinton to get up and say something about the current administrations over whelming FAILURE (someone please, please tell me there is some form of code of ethic against it), I do believe that he holds his tongue in an effort to better serve the cause of aide to the victims, rather than any sort of polical career.

Bill might not be able to fully criticize what's going on, but Hilary still can. And frankly, I hope she does. I hope she goes after them more and more. And I hope she attacks. Because after the last let down in the 2004 election where Democrats held their tails between their legs and didn't attack... after they sat down and prayed that the republicans would destroy themselves... after they spinelessly slumped to the ground instead of fighting back, this country could use a little bit of balls on their side. The people of this country, the ones that make up the majority, not the rich minority, they could use someone to stand up and fight for them. They could use a reason to get to the polls and vote.

Way to back track there Hastert

and the red cross couldn't get food in

People dying? (I hope I posted the link the video about it on cnn.com - if not you can see it there under "newspaper foresaw...." I don't remember the exact title right now)

Talking Points Memo

What Do We Do Now?

Wow, thanks for the help
(will put up video of LA Senator talking about situation)

NBC's Hurricane Benefit concert Blog But seriously, I didn't even watch it because I didn't know it existed. I guess I was too engrossed in the Internets of news.

I must bow down to Bob Sheiffer for this: (video clip)

SCHIEFFER: Finally, a personal thought. We have come through what may have been one of the worst weeks in America's history, a week in which government at every level failed the people it was created to serve. There is no purpose for government except to improve the lives of its citizens. Yet as scenes of horror that seemed to be coming from some Third World country flashed before us, official Washington was like a dog watching television. It saw the lights and images, but did not seem to comprehend their meaning or see any link to reality.

As the floodwaters rose, local officials in New Orleans ordered the city evacuated. They might as well have told their citizens to fly to the moon. How do you evacuate when you don't have a car? No hint of intelligent design in any of this. This was just survival of the richest."

Criminal Negligence and Katrina?

Think Progress another source of articles and information

This is your accountability moment, Mr Bush

The Rest of the Goddamn Nation

It really isn't that suprising that there is so much criticism... is it?

Hello Mr. President?
