Okay I have a favor to ask. I'm working on a project for one of my classes and part of it involves getting an idea of what people think about me. That and, well, I guess I also need a little bit of honesty in my life and really, you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings here because I'm gearing up to hear them. All I ask is that you comment (and you can do it anonymously if you want) and leave me your thoughts on my good and bad qualities. What do you hate about me? What do you love? What do you wish I would do? What do you wish I would stop doing? What you ultimately want for me in my future?

Please, even if you don't wish to join me over at the new blog or even if you feel like you have nothing to say, please leave me a comment with something. All comments will be screened and IP logs will be turned off so don't worry, only I will see what you write and I won't even know it's you unless you tell me. I'm such a family peson that I would die if I couldn't find mine. And if you notice, there is one particular part that states there is a sign with "Honore" scrawled on it. Honore is also the last name of the General that is down there kicking some ass and getting shit done. He, apparently, has a daughter and other relatives down there that he has yet to see. It's gotta be hard for him. Being down there, seeing the heinous conditions, and not even knowing if his family is alive. I guess I shouldn't say that much because from what I've read, he hasn't SEEN them, but he might have HEARD from them. I doubt it, at this point, but it's possible. I hope so.

You couldn't let the Wal-Mart trucks in because it was unsafe. You couldn't let the people walk themselves to safety because it was unsafe. Well here's a news flash! And not letting these QUALIFIED, TRAINED, READY AND WILLING Firefighters in there is a FUCKING CRIME!

Cause, you know, there was a time that existed before that. And to be honest, times weren't too bad. I remember them quite well. I grew up in them.

About 140 people - mostly elderly and infirm - arrived Saturday at McGhee Tyson Airport on a chartered mercy flight from hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, welcomed to East Tennessee by a bright sun and a host of medical professionals straining at the reins to help their fellow human beings without regard to whether they were on the clock.

The displaced hurricane victims came to Tennessee on a hastily arranged flight, accompanied by doctors and carrying whatever they had in boxes, bags or, in one case, an old suitcase tied up with rope.

Former Vice President Al Gore arranged the flight and was on board, but he declined to take credit for the airlift, fearing it would be "politicized."

The patients and evacuees arrived aboard an American Airlines MD-80 about 3:15 p.m. The unloading process took almost two hours, as some walked hesitantly down a staircase beneath the rear of the aircraft. Others were rolled down a ramp from the front of the plane to waiting wheelchairs. Personnel from Rural/Metro and the Tennessee Air National Guard volunteered their services, as did others, to get the patients and evacuees loaded onto buses or ambulances for the ride to area hospitals to be assessed medically before going to a Red Cross shelter.

On hand to help with the operation were Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale and his wife, Claudia, still decked out in orange from having attended the University of Tennessee football game against Alabama-Birmingham. The county's first couple assisted medical staff in shuttling patients from the ramp to buses.

One of the doctors on board the flight was Dr. Anderson Spickard of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, who said he had a "personal and professional" relationship with Gore.

Spickard said Gore called him about 11 p.m. Friday to ask him to participate in the flight.

"The jet was chartered," he said. "It was a private effort."

Gore chartered the plane, but, Spickard said, "we'll decide who pays for it later."

The doctor said the patients on the plane traveled well and added that he was "pleased" with Knoxville and Knox County's response to the call for help.

The patients, he said, "didn't know what kindness" they would receive here.

Spickard said the plane would leave McGhee Tyson Saturday evening for Dallas, where he would spend the night before making another mercy flight, possibly to Chattanooga, Nashville or Chicago.

The plan had been to make two flights Saturday, Spickard said, but delays in getting to Knoxville meant that the plane could not get back to New Orleans before dark. And there are no landing lights at New Orleans International Airport.

Mayor Ragsdale said he was touched by some of the heart-wrenching stories the people told him as they disembarked from the plane.

One, he said, was a man of 80-plus years who described being on his roof for three days before being rescued. Another was in an attic that almost filled with water. A third was a man who got off the plane barefooted and with obvious skin trauma to his lower legs, who told the mayor of having to stand in water for 2-3 days.

"Some folks are mentally exhausted," he said. And, the mayor said, he has been notified that the Knoxville area can expect as many as 1,500 more evacuees in coming days.

Ragsdale said a meeting was held Friday afternoon - before the mercy flight was announced - that included representatives of his staff and Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam's, all area hospitals, Knoxville's Community Development Corporation, Child and Family Services, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Knox County Health Department to come up with a plan to mobilize in case of such an emergency.

"We didn't know this would happen," Ragsdale said. "It is fortunate we had the meeting."

He called Saturday "a very successful day."

Gore chose not to speak to the assembled media, but he was seen in a black T-shirt and jeans moving rapidly from one side of the plane to the other assisting with the off-loading operation.

And as she said: "No photo ops, but doing actual work. Imagine."

Just try to imagine that duplicated by about a thousand people surrounding you. And that might, MIGHT give you some sense of what being at the Superdome or being at the Convention Center was like.

And I don't even want to go near the idea of rapings and other violence that was occur.

Edit: As I try to gather information on various ways to help, I am also trying to grasp the complexity of this situation. I am thoroughly engrossed in the articles, the videos, the photos, just every bit of information I can get my hands on. While the political Right is trying to innundate us with this "hope is still alive. we will win." bullshit, people, the media even, are finally starting to rise up and call this administration on their continous ability to FAIL our country. In the land of the fucking FREE people have to wait DAYS just to be evacuated from one of the easiest cities to get to? Are you shitting me?

Anyway, while I continue to search and become thoroughly enraged, I have combined my previous posts into a much larger, more thorough (though definitely more ill-assembled post). Remember I started gathering the beginings of these links before any form of help arrived. Then when the smallest form of help arrived. And now that they are getting in there and getting wet, I'm not letting up.

In a moment I will update this post with info that I think everyone needs to see, Bush supporter or not (though I'm fairly sure that there are no Bush supporters on my FriendsList because I would have probably ripped your head off by now, or you know, you would have unfriended me). But for now, here's just a little bit on how to help. I know we can't all lend the helping hand that we would like, but here are a few ways to help out in small amounts. Small amounts, believe it or not, add up to a whole lot more than no amount.

Then I want them to tell me that looting in time of need is a bad thing. Let them tell me that all looters need to be shot. Let them tell me that the women and children being raped had a choice to step up and say no. Let them tell me that the people there in the dome are/were completely safe and don't/didn't need the security and protection that they desreve.

It's like that old saying, "Don't worry, I got your back. Just WAAAAAAAAYYYY back."

Bill might not be able to fully criticize what's going on, but Hilary still can. And frankly, I hope she does. I hope she goes after them more and more. And I hope she attacks. Because after the last let down in the 2004 election where Democrats held their tails between their legs and didn't attack... after they sat down and prayed that the republicans would destroy themselves... after they spinelessly slumped to the ground instead of fighting back, this country could use a little bit of balls on their side. The people of this country, the ones that make up the majority, not the rich minority, they could use someone to stand up and fight for them. They could use a reason to get to the polls and vote.
