Cedar is the Father of the Forest – A Siberian Guide for Father’s Day

In several Indigenous Siberian cultures, the Siberian pine (Pinus sibirica, commonly called “kedr” in Russian) has long held sacred status. Among peoples such as the Altai, Khanty, and Evenki, this tree was seen not only as a source of nourishment and shelter but also as a protective spiritual being—often referred to in familiar terms as “Grandfather Cedar” or “Father of the Forest.”

This tradition reflects an approach in which trees and other plants are understood as living beings – almost as members of the family. Among many Uralic and Siberian groups, the sun is called “grandfather,” the earth “mother,” and large trees, especially ancient cedars, are sometimes called “father” or “old man” in oral traditions and ritual language.

According to ethnographic records, particularly those documented in The Peoples of Siberia (Levin & Potapov, 1964; Anisimov, 1959), the cedar was treated with deep reverence:

  • It was associated with strength, longevity, and endurance

  • It was linked to the upper world and divine beings, including the creator god Ul’gen in Altai cosmology

  • It often served as a symbolic “tree of life” or ancestral protector, particularly when found in sacred groves or near family homesteads

Families would visit these trees to make offerings for health and protection, especially for the well-being of the household. The father of the family often played a central role in this practice, acting as both provider and spiritual intermediary. When cedar wood was used—for shelter, tools, or medicine—it was done with permission and gratitude, acknowledging the essence of the tree.

This view of cedar as a living, masculine presence in the forest reflects a cultural emphasis on the father as protector, guide, and holder of ancestral memory, a concept that is still relevant today.

To honour the enduring strength and quiet presence of the fathers in our lives, celebrate them with a special gift from the home of the Siberian Cedar, the Taiga Forest:

Instructions on Siberian Cleansing. Various cleanses and detox-programs have been promoted by nutritionists and internet influencers for many years. The process of body detoxifying is not a new phenomenon but has rather been used by cultures around the world for centuries. Our modern lifestyle, now more than ever, requires a need for cleansing.

Today, we are talking about a well-known detox method that has been used by our Russian ancestors – Siberian Cleansing. The word “detox” usually brings to mind scary thoughts about eliminating all food groups from your diet. Compared to  modern restrictive cleanses, that advise fasting for days, this regimen is not as restrictive. Read on to find out more about it.

What is Siberian Cleansing?

Siberian Cleansing is a natural way to eliminate toxins and strengthen your body’s natural healing power. In various sources you will find different variations of this treatment that have one thing in common – they are all based on cedar nut oil and cedar resin. The procedure includes minimising the toxins that enter your body while using natural purifying agents to clean off the rest. Cedar Nut Oil acts on a cellular level, pulling off harmful substances from inside the cell and restoring its normal function. Cedar resin is the strongest natural antiseptic, which fights inflammation, enhances and improves the healing properties of the Cedar Nut Oil. The members of our family perform the cleansing, using either Cedar Nut Oil with Cedar Resin 10% or Cedar nut oil with MEGRE Elixir. From our experience, the best results are achieved when using oil with elixir. The Megre Elixir contains different types of resin – not only derived from the tree as the ordinary resin enriched oil, but from the cone as well.

Potential benefits of Siberian Cleansing

Siberian Cleansing could be practiced by anyone who wants to support their body’s natural ability to detoxify. People, who would like to improve their overall well-being and increase their energy could also consider undertaking this natural therapy.

Further benefits that have been reported include:

  • relieving the symptoms of digestive disorders
  • clearing skin
  • improving the circulatory system work
  • strengthening the body’s immune system
  • fighting chronic fatigue

How to do the cleanse?

Start by eliminating alcohol and processed foods from your diet. Reducing the consumption of meat and fried foods is highly recommended. Include more seasonal fruits and vegetables, local spices and herbs.

One Siberian Cleansing course takes 33 days. To execute the treatment correctly, you would need 3 bottles of Cedar Nut Oil with Cedar Resin 10% or Cedar nut oil with MEGRE Elixir. The Siberian Cleansing Set was specially designed for this purpose.

Start with half a teaspoon, every morning on an empty stomach and continuously increase the dosage, every three days. When you reach the middle of the cycle (day 18), the dosage starts decreasing, until it reaches the starting position of half a spoon on day 33.

You will find the exact scheme down below.

1-3 day – 1/2 teaspoon

4-6 day – 1 teaspoon

7-9 day – 1 1/2 teaspoon

10-12 day – 2 teaspoon

13-15 day – 2 1/2 teaspoon

16-18 day – 3 teaspoon

19-21 day – 2 1/2 teaspoon

22-24 day – 2 teaspoon

25-27 day – 1 1/2 teaspoon

28-30 day – 1 teaspoon

31-33 day – 1/2 teaspoon

Side-effects have not been reported, except in people allergic to one or more of the ingredients. The feeling of improved energy starts being noticed around day 7 of the cycle. To retain the effects of the cleansing in the long run, repeat the procedure once every year.

Cedar Syrups – A Simple, Nourishing Addition

These syrups are made using water extracts of spring cedar greens, often called cedar “paws.” At their core are naturally occurring polysaccharides and flavonoids — compounds that support the body in quiet but important ways. Polysaccharides, in particular, play a role in strengthening blood vessels and supporting the renewal and structure of cell membranes throughout the body, including the nervous system.

Research on Cedar Syrup

Research from scientists in Yekaterinburg has shown that regular use of aqueous cedar greenery extracts may support overall resilience. There is a noted tendency toward improved blood composition, including an increase in phagocytes, which help the body respond to viral and bacterial challenges. The extract is also associated with supporting the immune system and helping to stabilize the nervous system.

More About It

To complement the cedar base, natural extracts such as lingonberry and rosehip are added. These not only give the syrups their gentle, pleasant flavour but also provide a familiar source of vitamins and trace elements. Rosehip, in particular, is known for its high vitamin content, including vitamin C, as well as B vitamins and important minerals like potassium, calcium, and iron.

The syrups are available in a few variations, including classic cedar, cedar with propolis, and blends with rosehip, cranberry, or lingonberry.

In terms of use, they are simple to incorporate into everyday routines. One or two teaspoons can be added to a cup of tea, water, or even a cold drink once or twice a day. They also work beautifully with food, stirred into porridge, added to desserts, or used to bring a subtle depth to sauces and creams.

The syrup itself is a dark, viscous liquid with a naturally sweet taste and a mild, pleasant aroma. It’s made from cedar needle and twig extracts, rosehip and lingonberry extracts, and purified water.

No side effects have been identified, and it’s an easy way to add something both traditional and nourishing into daily life.

Nettle Accessories – many people have known of the warming and healing properties of Nettle for thousands of years. There have been a number of legends told over generations about Nettles strength and its ability to protect from the evil eye. These legends have been passed down orally from family to family, with many of them starting as children’s fairy tales.

What is made from the thread

Carpets were woven from it, ropes were twisted and fishing nets were made. From thin and long fibres, fabric for clothes, nettle accessories (such as bracelets) and bed linen were prepared and blankets were sewn. Nettle is known for its unsurpassed power to influence health: to this day, nettle yarn socks save from rheumatism, belts save from sciatica and headbands from migraines. Nettle threads improve blood circulation, normalise blood pressure, enhance visual acuity and relieve pain of any origin due to the ability to harmonise human energies.

Studies were carried out by professors of medicine, and they said that dressings made from nettle yarn would have a bactericidal and hemostatic effect. That is, wounds treated with such materials will heal faster than when using bandages made from traditional fabrics.

Collecting Nettle

It would seem that everything is so simple – a weed that grows on every hillock in huge volumes is easy to take and use for good. Many businessmen wanted to put the production of nettle fibres in their factories. But the nettle turned out to be both magical and inaccessible: it lends itself only to thoughtful and monotonous manual labor. Even a young child can get a nettle thread, the main thing is perseverance and love for this thread. Not everyone manages in the same way.

It is indeed a painfully long and laborious process. Nettles are collected in summer and autumn when they have grown to their prime. The plants are collected, dried and then soaked for a long time. Then they are dried again to get the material from which the spinning fibres are extracted. If you collect nettles in winter or in the first half of spring, you will get a ready-made material: biting rains, dews, frost and fogs have already taken care of it, but then you have to get it out from under the snowdrifts.

Processing Nettle

To get yarn, the plant is first crushed up in special mills. The quality of the yarn depends on how conscientiously the stems are mashed. “If you don’t blast with a pulp, you won’t take it with a spinning wheel,” a peasant proverb warned. It is a process to remove the wooden parts of the stem from the crushed plant. The plant is ruffled with a special rattle that is similar to a large wooden knife. The material is then scraped, first with large maple combs and then with small combs and brushes. After some time and labor, long and clean fibres are obtained which can be used to make threads. This process takes more than one day.

And so it turns out that the nettle thread is a piece of work and very time-consuming. While in the age of high technology there is no other way to do it other than with careful intentions. This makes it a difficult resource to obtain. Therefore, the price of one nettle shirt is incredibly expensive. But maybe it is for this reason that the strength in the nettle thread  is so high, so much so that even one thread on the wrist is enough to feel it.

Healing Water Day

According to an ancient Slavic tradition, the bright holiday of Vodosvet is celebrated on the 19th January. At this time, the Sun, Earth and the centre of the Galaxy are positioned in such a way that an energy channel opens up. This energy changes the structure of water and everything that is made from it. Open sources of water become healing, or, as they used to say, living. This day was calculated thousands of years ago – it is the 25th day from the birth of the Sun.

A Slavic Celebration

The ancient slavic people celebrated this holiday near to any reservoirs of water. The men cut holes in the ice and the women decorated it with all kinds of ribbons and colourful patches, glorifying Mother Voditsa and throwing wheat grains into the hole. According to the custom, it was a tradition to swim in the water hole, but if you did not have enough courage, you could draw living water from a reservoir and pour it over yourself in a warmer setting. After everyone has bathed, they all got together and continued the holiday with tea and wishing each other good health.

On this day, the water possessed magical powers – and for everyone that touched it, it bestowed health, cleansed and could cure diseases. This fact was also subjected to scientific study and the conclusion of the scientists was as follows: water collected from open sources on January 19th changes the acidity and taste. It has a beneficial effect on the immune system, provides antioxidant protection, improves metabolism, increases blood pressure and helps heal wounds and burns. Magic? Rather, it is the natural property of water to absorb information, which on this day is poured into the Earth in a powerful stream.healing ice water

Origins and History

The word “water” itself comes from the word “Veda”. Since ancient times people have attributed the properties of accumulating and transmitting information to it, which means that with one touch it can restore or destroy a person’s bio field, depending on its condition. Our ancestors generally paid a lot of attention to water and its healing power – they knew that rain was a sign of fertility and a healthy harvest and they understood that health depends on the quality of water. Even in many fairy tales, water was resurrected and killed, and other miracles were performed too.

So they celebrated the Waterfall! Those who were not afraid, swam, collected water for the sick, washed their children with it and simply left it in reserves, as it was believed that it retains its magical properties for a whole year. Household men filled their home wells with magical snow so that the water in them would be clean and fresh.

It can be seen that the customs of Vodosvet are very reminiscent of the Christian holiday of Epiphany. So it is, with the emergence of Christianity that the name of the holiday was changed, but the essence and traditions were preserved from ancient times. After all – it is a natural phenomenon and the water in the reservoirs have changed and will change on this very day, regardless of your faith. Under different names, this holiday is celebrated by all the inhabitants of the Earth.
