Department of Genome Sciences

The Department of Genome Science (DGS) is dedicated to addressing fundamental and applied questions in biology and medicine by developing and utilizing cutting-edge genetic, genomic, and computational approaches. Our research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of complex human diseases and translating these discoveries into meaningful clinical applications.

DGS labs are committed to bridging the gap between genomics research and clinical implementation. By leveraging advances in genetics, genomics, and computational biology, we aim to enhance disease prevention, improve diagnostics, and optimize treatment strategies tailored to individual patients.

The DGS provides exceptional training and research opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Our labs participate in graduate education through the UVA School of Medicine (the BIMS program), the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences, offering an interdisciplinary environment that fosters innovation and collaboration.

By integrating advanced genomic technologies with computational and experimental approaches, our faculty and trainees work toward groundbreaking discoveries that have the potential to transform human health.
