I'm going to miss this show. All those girls are just too adorable.

One of my co-workers recommended Sherlock. I wasn't going to watch it because I already watch too much t.v., but the broadcast season has ended so my summer viewing will be thin. The only thing I'm going to be watching on a regular basis will be True Blood. Game of Thrones will be over soon (the show is soooo good), so I probably will end up watching it. I think British series tend to be short like 6 episodes? The It Crowd is short like that so I assume most others are the same. I just need to find it online.

Back Pain, It sucks!

I hurt my back while I was walking on Friday. I'm not sure how it happened since I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, but it definitely happened. I'm fine when I sit, but when I get up and straighten my back, I get a sharp pain. Not cool! Hopefully it'll heal on its own, and I won't have to go to a doctor or chiropractor. I'm too poor for that. :(

Just received a nudge.

Hey! Haven't updated in a while. Not that my life has been quiet, just that I forget to do this. I mostly just read my friends page even if I don't comment.

Two events:

My dog Cutiepie lost a good amount of weight before we figured out that he'd eaten a towel that had wrapped around his intestines. We suspected that was it because he'll eat anything, and there had been little pieces of ripped up purple towel outside the week before. We had to get a referral to the Gulf Coast Veterinary Hospital (President Bush (yuck!) brings his dog there), so as you can expect it was insanely expensive. It was worth it though. He came back three days later like that last week hadn't happened. He's 11 years old now, but still acts like a puppy. My other dog, Pimpom, was pretty lonely as they had grown up together -- from the same litter.

The other happening isn't as big but after being away for a while, I've gotten back into CreepyPasta! I stopped reading it last year because I spook easily, but I decided to try it again earlier this month. Now I'm having trouble sleeping. Closets creep me out and the dark gives me the willies. I'm too old to be this affected. I should really stop, but I can't. It kind of reminds me when I use to read Scary stories to tell in the dark. Too old to read them, but they still freaked me out. Especially the pictures:

It's snowing! In Houston! That never happens! It snowed a little last year in late December, but it was very light, almost invisible, and lasted all of 10 minutes. This is actual snow. You can see it! And it has been coming down all morning. It actually feels like winter and like Christmas season. Yay.

Hurricane Ike

Gah! Another hurricane is heading toward the Texas coast. The last one I went through was in 2005 when Hurricane Rita struck. We were lucky then as we ended up on the clean side of the storm, but that doesn't look like it's the case for this storm. The forecasters expect that we should have 80 mph hurricane force wind in my area. It's a hell of a lot more than what occured during Rita, but this time the hurricane is so huge -- covering most of the Texas coast -- no matter where it lands, you're gonna feel it. I'm definitely worried, more so for my three dogs than for me. Well, I am a little worried as my father has decided not to board up the windows and mine is directly in front of a huge tree. Of course not just the wind is a concern but the rain as well. Any type of flooding is a cause for concern. My area does tend to flood when extended rainfall is introduced. One good thing in our favor is that we've had a bit of a drought, so the ground is dry and can probably take a good amount of rain before saturation kicks in -- hopefully the storm moves quickly out of our area. I get the feeling power is going to get knocked out, so I won't be updating till Monday at the earliest, unless something were to happen. Godwilling nothing will. I'll come back soon!

Gah, always forget to update. I love reading my friends' entries, but when it come to my own, I can never find the time to update. Stuff does happen though -- case in point, over Labor Day while I was walking at the park, I do this every morning, this fatty on his bike ran me over. I couldn't walk for a week -- my knee was pretty banged up. What's even worse, before I could confront him and his father (he was some brat kid), they had already taken off, bastards!

I finally managed to e-mail some of the pictures I had in my phone. It wasn't working for a while, and today I finally got it to work. Yay!

This is of my birthday cake. It was earlier this year. My sister bought me a cabbage patch cake. Hee! It was pretty yummy -- no candles though. She's a cheapskate.

And this is my sister. Well, the top portion of her face anyway. I took it while we were on a tour of the riverwalk in San Antonio last year.

And here is the front of the Alamo. The inside is not as awesome as I thought it would be. It's kind of tacky that they made a section of it into a gift shop. :(

We're actually going back this November, so hopefully, more pictures. I want to go on a tour of one the haunted houses.

Taxes = Teh Suck!

I hate doing my taxes. HATE! I can never get it right the first time. I'm getting two different amounts for the refund, and I can't figure out why. I'm very tempted to file the return with the largest amount, but I don't want to get rejected or have to pay it back in the future. I think I'm going to try it with another electronic filer like Turbo Tax and which ever amount I get is what I'm going to file. I just hate how as you get older things just get more complicated. :(

My Dogs!

I found these hiding in a drawer. I would've used a camera phone and taken new pictures but since I don't have one and the dogs haven't changed at all since these were taken, I decided to scan these instead. I should really update my phone, but I find myself resistant to change. ;)

Doogie

This one and the pitbull are the two oldest. He's older by a couple of months though. Both dogs are around 10-11 years old. We got him in '95 during my freshman year. My username is derived from his actually. The first letter of my name - Monica + Doogie = mdoogie.

I don't know why I took this one. LOL!

Princess

We got her a couple of months after Doogie. She was aound 3 when she had the pups. People think pitbulls are evil, but she's so sweet.

Cutiepie

The Pups were born January 1999 while I was on vacation from school. They were originally from a litter of nine, but the other seven died. :(

He got Parvo when he was a puppy, and lost a ton of weight. I remember he went to the vet rou nd and chubby and came back sleek like a greyhound.

Pimpon

Pimpon got his name from a mexican doll. It had a theme song my mom would sing to him when he was small, and the name stuck.

Together

This is a polaroid we took a few of months after they were born.

Weather...

My sister woke me up this morning at 6 am to tell me that our street was flooded. Somehow without me realizing, it had rained all night. There was even thunder and lightening which had escaped my notice. Most of the bayous overflowed their banks, and Southwest Houston like always got hit the hardest.

I live in North Houston which didn't get hit too hard, but there was enough water on the streets that I couldn't go into work today. That pisses me off because now I have to make up those hours. On top of that my left hand hurts something fierce. I think I have arthritis. It's a dull ache that spread from my wrist to my thumb. It's difficult to open and close it. I'm a shelver so I need the hand to work. That's the only good thing about me not going to work; hopefully the rest will give my hand time to get better.

Now from the depressing to the pathetically sad. I never watched this show as I avoid mostly all cable news programs, but I saw this on youtube. Connie Chung and Maury Pauvich have (or rather they had as they were recently canceled) a program together, you know when he's not busy cheating on her or so it's alleged. Well, they just aired the last show and for some unknown reason Connie, who up till now and will never be again was a serious newscaster, decided to act a fool. I get the feeling that her co-workers must hate her. Why else would they let her make a fool out of herself. It's almost too painful to watch -- painful but funny.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcozKfpbmaA

Underworld: Evolution

The first movie wasn't exactly the most amazing thing ever, but I still loved it. It offered something different -- female heroines are scarce these days and a nice twist on old horror cliches. The sequel on the otherhand didn't offer anything new. It was just kind of there. The relationship between Selene and Michael had no spark. They had so much more chemistry in the first movie and here it seemed to have disappeared. To say I was underwhelmed would be fairly accurate. It wasn't a boring movie exactly -- the action scenes were frequent enough and very well done to keep me from falling into boredom, but it didn't have the kick I thought it would. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't have the pay to see it. Probably should have waited till it premiered on HBO. I like mediocre things better when they're free.

It's so cold . . . and other musings

It's so cold and I couldn't be happier. It finally feels like November. I've been toying with the idea of moving away from Houston - eventually. Hurricanes, unseasonably warm weather, republicans I could really do without all that. I've lived in Texas my whole life though, so I know it's just wishful thinking. I'll probably never leave. But if I ever did, I choose a place where the weather acts as it should. Not a place where it's summer all year round. Blah!

My dog Doogie -- which is where my screen name is derived from -- had to have his back teeth taken out. They were pretty badly infected. He said he was surprised Doogie could eat. We had his teeth cleaned last year, and they weren't anywhere this bad. I'm not sure what went wrong. I wonder how he could eat. He did lose 4 pounds from his last weigh in. So, I'm thinking maybe he wasn't eating. :(

Lost:

I hate Ana Lucia. After watching "The Other 48 Days," I can understand her a bit better -- they obviously went through a difficult time compared to the other castaways -- , but she's still a major bitch. Such an unlikeable character. I honestly don't understand how the other tailies could stand to be around her. She's bossy, and I'm wondering how she'll interact with the others when the merge occurs. There's already a power struggle between Jack and Locke, and now she comes in, used to ruling her little band, and I can only imagine what'll happen when she buts heads with those two not to mention Sayid.

Veronica Mars:

Love! I just love this show. The only complaint I have is the character of Duncan. Boring! He's such a boring character. At least Ana Lucia inspires a strong emotion. Duncan on the otherhand, is bland. I don't know if it's the writing or the actor, but something is not working. I wasn't really a fan of him during the first season, but it's just gotten worse this season. I don't want an actor to lose his job, but I really wish he'd get written off.

Fullmetal Alchemist:

I'm re-reading the manga now and just love. Really so much superior than the anime.

New layout featuring Grim Jaw from the manga Bleach, and a new Arrested Development mood theme. All hail paid accounts! ^^

Stuck...

Turns out we couldn't leave the city. The highways were, hell they still are, virtual parking lots. There are just a massive amount of people trying to flee the city. Of course with so much traffic, they were stuck for hours while the gas ran out, and none of the service stations had any to sell. One of my aunts left for San Antonio yesterday afternoon, a trip that normally takes about two hours, and she still hasn't made it. This is just really bad. Tropical storm Alison that hit us and stalled over us 4 years ago caused a lot of damage, so I can only imagine what a hurricane can do -- hell, the news keeps telling us how MASSIVE it is. We've boarded up the house, started cooking the perishable food, getting extra water for us and the dogs, now all we can do is ride it out and pray for the best. Sigh, I need a hug. :(

So, I live in Houston, and since Hurricane Rita is going to hit land by Saturday, we're probably going to head up to Dallas. I wanted to stay, but they're saying that Rita is massive, so even though Houston is 60 miles inland, we'd definately feel it. Evacuation is such a scary word. We have four dogs, and they're to big to put in carriers, so I'm not sure how we're going to handle it. I'm not leaving them that's for sure. So freakin' nervous.

So very poor

I'm so poor and yet I can't help buying things. I just paid my tuition, and seeing as I'm only taking 3 classes, $430.00 dollars isn't too bad. But all I have is part-time job, and I get paid every other week, so that took a huge chunk out of my already depleted bank account. Hell, I haven't even purchased my textbooks. And for some unknown reason I just had to go to Barnes and Noble, which didn't accept my giftcard, and spend 40 dollars. I bought some yaoi manga -- Only the Ring Finger Knows and Desire -- and the fourth volume of Imadoki. Actually, they weren't really yaoi as much as they were shounen-ai. They even had them shink wrapped with an explicit content sticker. Explicit content my ass. I've seen worse on television. I wonder if the publisher even knows the difference. Either way, I spent money I don't have, and truthfully, I'll probably do it again. :(

EEE! I just saw a commercial for the Samurai Champloo dvds! I can't wait till I get them. :D

Fanforum looks so weird. It wouldn't let me log in, saying I had entered the wrong password. I've had the password for 5 years. I've never changed it.

Old and New

It's been forever since I last updated. Of course, I always seem to write that when I make a new entry.

Christmas was probably the best I've had in years. I got most of the shopping done before Christmas eve unlike past years where I was still shopping till the stores closed. It was just very relaxing. I got everything I asked for -- a new laptop (although I can't plug in my keyboard and I have to use the one from the laptop and it majorly sucks!), a scanner, Fruits Basket Volume 6, a gift certificate to Waldenbooks and Borders, and the most important of all -- money. Which I need because not only did I buy present for others, I also bought all seven volumes of the manga Alice 19th, the first three volumes of Imadoki Nowadays, and Kaiken Phrase volume 5. And each volume is about 10 dollars a pop, so I ended up spending well over a hundred dollars. I was going to buy the volumes of Bleach that had been released, but I didn't think my bank account could take it. Although that didn't stop me from buying Samurai Champloo volume 1 which has the first four episodes of the series. It shipped yesterday, and I hope it gets here before school starts on the 18th.

Speaking of school, I passed all my classes, even Biology which I had been thinking of dropping seeing as how I could never get anything better than a high D on my tests. But I ended up with a low B for the class. I was surprised how well I did considering that on the final I went through pages of questions not knowing the answers. I just went along filling in random letters. Hopefully, this semester will be better. I'm taking Biology II, which has to better than the first one because I think this teacher actually hands out notes, Survey of British Literature I, and Intermediate Italian II.

Also, I'm going for my driving test this coming Wednesday. Which is kind of sad seeing as I'm 23. Better late than never I guess.

It's Official!

One of my favorite shows this season, other than Lost, is the sublime Veronica Mars. This show is so reminiscent of Buffy but without the monsters. It has the great acting, complex story lines, and layered characters. One of my favorite characters is the 'villain' Logan who while at first sight seems to be, as Veronica herself put it, a psychotic jackass is in fact anything but. His character really reminds me of Spike. More shades of gray than an out black and white villain. I kind of secretly ship Veronica/Logan just because their relationship is so antagonistic.

Unfortunately, the ratings weren't so hot. They got better with each episode, but it was uncertain if they were good enough for UPN to pick it up for the rest of the season. Until today! Here is the article. Hee! I'm so excited!

Update Alert!

Yeesh! It's been over a month since I've updated. School has been unbelievably hectic. There was a two week period where I had a test every other day. One for Biology, two for Western Civilization, and one for Italian. And of course, there are the quizzes I have to take after every lab. I'm also behind three chapters in Biology. I have no idea what my professor is talking about when he lectures. So far, I'm passing Italian and Western Civ., but Biology is kicking my ass. I have a 77 in that class. I've gotten low 70's for each of the tests I've taken, but if it weren't for the curve, I would have gotten 60's. This class is going to bring my GPA (I have a 3.9 right now) down so bad. :(

I've completely lost touch over at fanforum. I haven't been able to post in a long while. I think I posted once, but then got swamped by school again. So, this is a belated congratulations to Jen on becoming mod of the Buffy board! Also, I really need to drop by the Angel Un-appreciation thread. I miss that place.

My dog went into surgery on Thursday to remove a growth on his leg. When the doctor went in, he found another growth nearby as well as several small lumps up his leg. He had the growth sent to a lab to see what it is. I'm hoping it's nothing serious. I don't know what I'd do if it was. I don't even want to think about it.

Blah!

Great, I'm losing my voice. It's been going off and on since yesterday. I'm not even coughing that much anymore, so I don't know what's wrong. Maybe it's pent up phlegm? 'Cause I'm not really coughing anymore, it's just stuck there. Eww, gross. Hopefully, I won't really lose my voice.

In the meantime, I'm being productive and doing my Italian homework. I only have four more questions to go. Okay, truthfully, if something good were coming on cable other than the 50th showing of The Ring and a Planet of the Apes marathon, I wouldn't even be doing my homework right now. Geez, they made a new POTA movie very year. I mean '71, '72, '73, '74. They ran that franchise into the ground.

I did stop to watch Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. Man, that movie rocks. I never get tired of watching it. Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon! I love his voice!

New Layout

As my entry title suggests, I have a new layout. I got tired of the Haruko layout pretty quickly. Red and Gold, and nothing else, got old fast. I decided to go for simplicity this time -- here and at my icon journal kismet_icons. Photobucket went down earlier this week and all my layout images were affected. There were too many to store somewhere else, so in order to avoid this in the future, I decided to simplify. The new layouts are mostly default but with a header and certain customizations to add personality. I went with a Wolf's Rain motif at kismet_icons with a header of Kiba and Tsume and actual variety of color. I used the same idea here but I went with a Cowboy Bebop motif with a header image of Spike Spiegel from Knockin' On Heaven's Door. I think it's from his fight with Vincent when he's going to light a cigarette. I just think it's cool.

I got sick on Wednesday. Or rather I woke up sick on Wednesday. I went to sleep fine, but I woke up at four in the morning with a sore throat. I thought it would go away when I woke up at six, but alas no. It was horrible! I couldn't swallow at all, and I couldn't get medicine till Thursday afternoon. It was obvious it hurt to talk, but did the patrons care? Hell no! This one woman kept me at her computer for thirty minutes trying to download a job application. Damn, was she stupid and inconsiderate. I don't know why I didnt just send her to the reference desk. Probably because she looked the type that would cause trouble if I tried to foist her annoying self onto someone else. The sore throat is gone now, but I'm left with a scratchy throat and cough that that feels like I'm hacking up a lung.

Second week of school is over and hopefully the rest of the semester will go as smooth. I'm taking Biology I, Western Civilization, and Italian Intermediate I. Of course, I'm already procrastinating. I got an assignment on Monday in Italian that is due this coming Monday, and I haven't even looked at the chapter. I'm just falling back into old patterns.

New Layout!

I was going to make a Hellsing layout, preferably with Alucard as the focal point, but I couldn't find a picture I really liked. Then I found this picture of Haurko from Fooly Cooly, and I new this was the one. The lyrics on the header and comment links are from the song Bachelorette by Bjork. I remembered we used it as the first challenge over at manga_icontest. I think it fits the character so well.

An actual update

It's been a month since I've updated, and before this journal gets deleted, I decided to actually write something.

In March I turned 23, and one of things I've always regretted was that I never learned to drive past a few lessons I took after I graduated from highschool. So about three weeks ago, ny mom decided she would to teach me to drive. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. She says I drive better than her friend. I just need to study the driver's handbook so I can go for my license. Hopefully, I'll be ready pretty soon, because school starts in about a month, and I would like to either have my license or be as proficent as possible so I can go by myself.

Which of course brings me to the fact that the summer is almost over and the fall semester is almost ready to start. I'm actually going to take more than one class. I've actually managed to register in time, so the classes I need to take aren't even half full yet. Right now I've managed to register for Biology I and Intermediate Italian. I'm going to register for an Aerobics class which will probably take place in the night, so I can go after work. The only other class I want to register for is History of Western Civilization. My sister says I should take Professor Crow because she had him and he was supposedly great. The only problem is that his class takes place between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm and I start work at 11:00 am. The other classes I'm taking finish at 10:30 am, so this is the only class that may be a problem. I think I can get the hour I go into work pushed back to 12:30 pm. The only thing is that we just got a new head of circulation, and he starts tomorrow. I don't want to throw this at him right away because he's just starting out and doesn't know the schedule. I'm going to have to talk to the head librarian instead. I 'm going to register for this class, and I really can't wait for this guy to assimilate to his new job. I'm not going to wait and have the seat taken up by someone else.

I started this job over three years ago, and you're supposed to have a job evalutaion within six months of starting. But here I am three years later, and I've never had one. Till now. my boss told me today that one is coming up. I had to do a self evaluation. It had the stupidest questions. Like what career goals do you have and how would they benefit the library. Or what skills do you have and would like to use more often and how would they benefit the library. Please. I'm a freakin' shelver! I don't need any other skills other than knowing how to put things in alphabetical and numerical order. There isn't any training I could take that would help with my job. They were the stupidest questions and really didn't apply to my position. I had no idea what to write. I practically left some questions blank. I'll probably have to do it over. Gah! So stupid.

Let see, what else. I got the new xbox game: The Suffering. I've been wanting to get this for the longest time. I like it so far but the controls are hard. I hate the point of view. It's hard to shoot because unlike in other games like, The Thing, for instance, the gun doesn't automatically aim. So the creatures are coming at me, and I have to move the controls to get the gun in position. Which, of course, takes forever, and I end up dying. Sigh.
