Stuff Promised in Book!
Here are all of the things promised in the pages of Hot X: Algebra Exposed!, including the Solution Guides!
SOLUTION GUIDES
Of course, the answers to all the “Doing the Math” problems are in the back of Hot X, but just in case you want to see the fully worked out solutions, here they are. Hope this helps!
For other things promised in the book (like the proof that 0.99999… = 1, etc), scroll down!
Here’s some Extra Stuff for you…
stuff I promised within the book!
Point-Slope Formula, as promised on p.150. I prefer slope-intercept form, but hey, sometimes we have to learn this one, too.
Happy Unit Cancellation, as promised on p.207. If you pay attention to the units in word problems, it’s amazing how much they can make everything easier!
Percents and the Stock Market, as promised on p.215. This one is crazy; totally counter-intuitive stuff.
Scientific Notation, as promised on p.270. You might learn this in science class, but here’s a handy review!
Completing the Square and the Quadratic Formula, as promised on p.396. This was the big challenge I gave you at the end of the book — can you do it without looking? If not, that’s okay! Take a peek, and then try it again on your own next week. You are building those math muscles with this one, girl!
The Proof that 0.99999… = 1, as promised on p.399. This is one you can drive adults crazy with. Just try it.
About Danica
Best known for her roles on The Wonder Years, The West Wing, and lately for her popular holiday movies on Great American Family channel (and formerly on Hallmark channel), Danica McKellar is also the New York Times bestselling author of 12 math books for kids, with over 2 million copies currently in print.
Starting with “Math Doesn’t Suck,” “Kiss My Math,” “Hot X,” and “Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape,” books aimed at middle school and high school readers, by popular demand she then wrote her first children’s picture book, “Goodnight Numbers” followed by “Ten Magic Butterflies,” the “Bathtime Mathtime” series, and “Do Not Open This Math Book,” aimed at 6-8 year olds, introducing us to the sweet character of Mr. Mouse while helping kids parents and teachers everywhere with the new methods being taught for addition and subtraction! Mr. Mouse made his second appearance in “The Times Machine!,” aimed at 8-10 year olds and teaching multiplication and division with comics and time travel, of course! Both “Do Not Open This Math Book” and “The Times Machine!” earned Amazon’s Book of the Year. She is also an internationally-recognized mathematician and advocate for math education. A summa cum laude graduate of UCLA with a degree in Mathematics, Danica has been honored in Britain’s esteemed Journal of Physics and the New York Times for her work in mathematics, most notably for her role as co-author of a ground-breaking mathematical physics theorem which bears her name (The Chayes-McKellar-Winn Theorem). She is incredibly proud that “Goodnight Numbers” was selected for inclusion in Dolly Parton’s literacy charity, The Imagination Library, and her voice can be heard narrating its documentary, “The Library that Dolly Built.”
