The purpose of the Math Talk is to reinforce key concepts and big ideas from this problem based math unit including:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are different types of data;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data is often characterized as continuous or discrete;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discrete data is often countable and can only take on certain values;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A measure of central tendency for a data set summarizes all of its values with a single number;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mode is the number that appears most often in a data set;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mean is the great equalizer; it can be determined by redistributing the data evenly or through partitive division.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want to take a deeper dive into these concepts? <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.makemathmoments.com\/task\/olympics\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider starting from the beginning of this 5-day problem based unit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2>Preparing to Facilitate<\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Present the following data set. Ask students to identify a single number to summarize all the values.
