I'm Mathias Lafeldt, an indie product engineer from Germany.
I started programming in the early 2000s to create my first tools for hacking PlayStation games. I've been hooked on bits & bytes ever since.
After running production systems on AWS for a decade, I thought cloud consulting would be my true calling, only to realize that I'm happiest when building products for other developers.
I still love the cloud — the future belongs to serverless architectures — but shipping delightful products requires expertise across the full stack, not just backend infrastructure. Right now I'm bullish on Rust, Zig, TypeScript, Cloudflare, Astro, and DuckDB.
AI has become my force multiplier across the entire product lifecycle — from ideation and prototyping to design and marketing. I ship more of what I want, faster, and enjoy sharing what I've learned along the way.
Freelance for hire
Over the years, I've helped companies modernize dozens of legacy applications and worked on multiple SaaS products, including a website builder, a chaos engineering platform, and a GraphQL-at-the-edge provider.
I'm available for new client engagements ranging from one-time support to long-term product development. Please contact me if you have a project in mind or believe I might be the right fit to augment your team.
