The Mathematics Department at UC Santa Cruz is a community of scholars dedicated to advancing both pure and applied mathematics. Our research spans algebra, geometry, and analysis, with faculty and students working together to develop new theory and solve challenging problems.

Mathematics is foundational to the sciences, engineering, and quantitative social sciences, and our undergraduate programs prepare students to think critically, reason abstractly, and approach complex problems with precision. Seminars & Colloquia

The Department hosts several seminars throughout the academic year, including the Geometry and Analysis seminar, Algebra and Number Theory seminar, Graduate Colloquium, Undergraduate Colloquium, and the Departmental Colloquium. Most seminars are at 4:00 p.m. after an informal tea with the speaker.
