[fourth petal] [video/action for Violet]

[Here's Aki, sitting in the Pokemon Center in Violet. She's idly stroking Mack, Rua's Espeon.]

...Even if they're not here anymore, it won't change anything. We'll stay connected, no matter what, even beyond physical distance.

I know that instead of dwelling on and living in the past, people should live more for the future's sake. If you involve yourself too much with the past and what-ifs, you stop being able to move forward. And if you abandon your hope for the future, you'll find eventually that the past is just the past, and that you'll end up stagnating. And then it can turn into obsession, for that matter -- obsession with revenge, compensation, or atonement. Isn't it always better to just live and learn, than to try and find a way to roll the dice again when you don't even know how they'll land in the first place?

Nothing in the future is ever etched in stone.

[Pause. She seems to consider shutting off the gear for a moment before putting out one last question.]

And a small question on the side for anyone who cares to answer. What do you think is the nature of your powers, if you had any? Or the powers of someone else, if not your own?

[Private text to Crow]

Thank you. I'm glad to know I can always count on you.

[Screened from Kiryu]

[Aki's attention is simultaneously divided between the PC at Goldenrod, the camera situated on a side table, and keeping an eye on the Budew toddling around the floor.]

I've decided to go to Ecruteak with Crow and put off the gyms for a while, since it's safer to do things that way now that Yuusei and Jack are gone. I'd like to know who else is going with us, if possible.

--Primula, don't even think about going outside. It's too cold for you.

[Still, despite the warning, the little Budew watches people mill in and out of the Center curiously, getting hit with a blast of cold air when the door slides open and squeaking as a result each time it happens.]

I also found Rua's Espeon in the storage box earlier. I'm not sure why, but it seems someone else had been taking care of him before leaving, too. Mack, I think he called it...

[The ball drops into the slot on the console when Aki issues the command to withdraw the Pokemon. She opens it, and suddenly, there sits a psychic fork-tailed carbuncle-thing.]

Mack... I'm sorry you had to wait so long. Your trainer is gone, I'm afraid, so I've decided I'll take care of you from now on.

[Aki offers her hand to the Espeon, who starts its inspection. She muses to herself a bit as it carefully accepts her and lowers its head for pattings. Primula wanders over at this point, practically tripping over herself in her haste to go meet the elegant new friend.]

You're a Psychic-type, aren't you? It looks like Rua trained you very well... I think we can get along just fine, in that case.

((OOC: And if we're not in Goldenrod anymore, this is backdated to when we were! |D Also idk anything about Rua's Espeon other than it has a hasty nature, soooo... um, yeah.))

[Aki seems hesitant to be posing the question on her mind, but then resolves to just come out with it.]

...What does one who has an affinity for Grass-types do when considering challenging Falkner of Violet City? It doesn't seem easy to defeat him, but even less so when your chosen specialty has a clear weakness against him. Is there really nothing else I can do save for catching one of those "Mareep" creatures I've heard about?

--And since I'm thinking of it, the number of people who genuinely have no idea what snow is is a little amazing. Do so many places really never get any at all?

[Sheltered rich-girl upbringing is kicking in for a moment. Then, slowly, almost in a grumble:] ...But I don't like it much, myself. I know I can safely say the same for my Pokemon, as well.

[first petal] [video, action for New Bark Town characters]

[So, first things first, the young woman's face on the communicator looks like the one in the icon -- wide-eyed and utterly perplexed.]

...What in the world is this all about...?

[She glances down with a strange expression on her features, tilting the camera towards the Chikorita rubbing up against her legs nonstop like an affectionate cat.]

This creature... it's a plant of some sort? It has a leaf growing out of its head. But it's not a Duel Monster, is it? I have no idea why it's so attached to me... it's too strange to be a pet. And just what is this place, anyway? The map function of this device only shows a few towns I've never heard of, and I can't find a way to zoom out. Or maybe it's so old-fashioned it doesn't have a zooming feature to begin with. But then, why the outdated technology in the first place?

I-- Yuusei, can you hear me? Jack? Crow? Rua? Ruka? ...Papa?

...Someone?

[A hesitant pause, and then:] I'm not alone here, am I? Please, if someone can hear me, I need to get back to Neo Domino City as soon as possible.

She is easily hurt if others try to point out her mistakes or just plain attempt to insult her for being a "freak". When she had the influence of Divine in her life, she was prone to fits of panic or rage if anyone tried to coax her away from him or the Arcadia Movement, no matter what their logic was. She had become extremely attached to him -- romantically or not is unknown -- and depended on him as her pillar of support. When she lost that pillar of support before gaining a new one, she went all the way off the deep end as a result. Combined with her powers, such an event could be dangerous to the safety of others, since before reconciling with her father, she could not control them properly.

Once she does make amends with her father, though, and becomes friends with the other Signers, she mellows out considerably, and even begins to strengthen her emotions, showing her true colors like they've never been seen before. In truth, she is a lot like the typical teenage girl she was never able to be; a little bit awkward and childish at times due to inexperience, certainly, but she shows a great deal of improved emotional tenacity by the time the WRGP rolls around, and winds up being far less insecure about herself in general while being far more open about her personality at the same time. Aki is more earnest when it comes to friendship now, and has become deeply protective of those she cares about. She still tends to be a little overly sensitive about things, and can still come across as gruff and occasionally immature at times, as well as relying on others for help and support when she needs it, but in her best moments, she's become a much more friendly and honest person. Though somewhat insecure when it comes to socializing with people she doesn't already know, it's not a total feat anymore to get her to speak to strangers. She's less dependent on people around her and is able to make her own decisions now, as she's far more confident in her own self, her actions, and her abilities, with the willpower to stand alone on her own measure.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

- Aki's social and life skills have improved from her first appearance. She is attending Duel Academy again, has become a riding duelist, has made up with her parents and has a better relationship with them, and overall a much more well-rounded person than she started out as. She's basically friendly now that she has learned the power of friendship from the other Signers, and has become much more open to new friends and relationships.

- As proven when she solved a duel puzzle where others could not in one episode, Aki is quite intelligent and knows how to strategize when she wants to, on par with the other Signers.

- She's also far more open-minded, willing to try and experience more new things at this point than before. Also, she isn't nearly as private and doesn't keep emotions as tightly bottled up as she used to, and is unafraid to tell others how she feels now.

- She is more able to make her own decisions and not have someone else do it for her as she was prone to having happen before; case in point is when she goes to save Yuusei from being kidnapped, rather than the other way around, and wields her powers to aid her.

- She has psychic powers that include telekinesis and summoning Duel Monsters, and while she can control them now unlike before, she doesn't particularly like to use them. They also seem to be waning over time.

Weaknesses:

- All in all, Aki is shaping up to be a much more normal teenage girl, but with that comes typical teenage girl weaknesses. She still has a tendency to be fairly immature at times when things don't go her way, though she no longer has massive breakdowns over such things.

- Though not nearly as much as before, she is still emotionally sensitive as well. On that same note, she'll probably be very hurt and insulted if someone deigns to make fun of her or condescend her whether or not she chooses to show it, but again, her phase of having violent, dangerous tantrums is over, and she handles such things much more gracefully.

- She can still be kind of mean at times, though not nearly in the outright way she was before reconciling with her father. Rather than wanting to cause pain to others intentionally, at this point, any incidents of cruelty on Aki's part seem mostly unintentional, and while she doesn't mean to come across as selfish, that's usually what such behavior looks like from the outside.

- Aki is a girl who is still somewhat dependent on others to keep her going, and while she tries hard now to be her own person (and mostly succeeds!), she often finds herself gravitating towards other people for support when she's not feeling confident, especially Yuusei.

Pokemon
Starter: Chikorita (F), "Hibiscus"

Password: Salmon riceballs

Samples

First Person Sample:

...Yuusei?

What in the world is going on here?

[It's more the setting than the pale green, leaf-headed little monster trotting around her feet that bothers Aki. She speaks only hesitantly when the video clicks on. It's not anywhere in urban Neo Domino, that's for certain -- not to mention she didn't even remember going to sleep to begin with, and yet found herself waking up in a bed anyway.]

Who was that woman who was claiming to be my mother, of all people? She wouldn't listen to a word I said, or answer any of my questions. And this creature... Pokemon, was it? It seems to like following me around... is it a Duel Monster of some kind? How was it summoned? And how did I get here in the first place? Where is "here", for that matter?

Something's wrong with this. It can't be my powers at fault, so whose are? It couldn't have been the Crimson Dragon, either... I don't remember anything like that happening before I woke up here, and my mark hasn't reacted to anything since.

[Aki gives a withering glance to the Chikorita.] If you could talk, that would make things so much easier, wouldn't it? But since that seems like it's not going to happen... this device is the only lead I have right now, even though the technology looks a little outdated.

Yuusei, can you hear me? Jack, Crow? Rua, Ruka? Where are you? What's going on?

[Silence for a moment, before an uncertain last two questions.] ...I'm not here alone, am I? Can anyone who's listening please help me find my friends?

Third Person Sample:

The transition, or perhaps lack thereof, from urban to natural was rather jarring. Not that Aki actively disliked either, but when one expects to see one place and instead sees another, it tends to be a nasty surprise.

One thing she'd found out quickly was that she would be walking long, long distances if she chose not to stay here. Apparently the trek from this tiny little town to the next one was not three hours like she might've expected, but three days, and when that fact was made clear to her, she had to wonder just what kind of place she'd found herself in. Rural country? Perhaps, since there wasn't even a car or a D-Wheel in sight. Or much of anything modern, really. If she had the D-Wheel Yuusei had recently given to her, she could've probably ridden it to this next town in no time, now that she had her license.

But that wasn't going to happen, she feared. Her D-Wheel (and duel disk, for that matter) were still back at home at her house. She remembered riding the D-Wheel home to show off to her parents and parking it in the driveway, but it was there that her memory got fuzzy. The very last thing that she recalled was the sensation of the front doorknob's cool metal on her fingers before the rest of her memories crumbled, falling away between the cracks of her fingers, and the next thing she knew, she had woken up in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room that was part of an equally unfamiliar house and town. Unfamiliarity was not her strong suit in the least, and the more she idled around in this place, the more steeped in confusion and dismay she felt.

Aki stood at the edge of a path somewhat apprehensively, one apparently part of a "Route 29" as indicated by the signpost, wondering whether she should start the long journey towards civilization, and possibly more information and a way home. She'd received no reply to her message yet, and she grew more and more anxious as the seconds ticked by like falling water drops.

She felt something bump against her leg -- the Chikorita, as that one strange device called it. It was an affectionate little thing, that was for certain.

"Since you've got your heart set on following me... do you know the way from here, by any chance?" Aki asked, a bit wryly, of the creature that wouldn't stop following her. She no longer had the heart to tell it off like she might've in the past, though had to wonder what it was about her that it seemed so... infatuated with.

Instead of responding verbally, however, it started headbutting the back of her ankles, so hard the first time that she almost fell backwards from the impact. With a sigh, she conceded defeat as it refused to let up pushing at her heels.

"Alright, I get the point. We'll go, I suppose... but it's going to be an experience, sleeping in the forest for two nights. I'm not sure whether to look forward to it or not..." She shook her head with disappointment. "I just hope Yuusei and the others are here, and that they're okay."
