Thomas' poetry is surprising, lyrical, rugged, funny, and beautiful--sometimes all in the same poem. That's a lot of adjectives, but they're all true.
I've been through similar struggles with my young adult children (eating disorders, depression, and other mental health issues) and it can be very lonely. I feel less alone each time I read one of Serena's clear, thoughtful essays.
Reading LeeAnn's poems is kind of similar to plunging into a pool or a lake. I hold my breath, I look around, I see a different world, and I'm completely submerged in it. Then I come up for air, but the poems stay with me.
"The Public Domain Poetry Project" is one of my favorite ways to write poetry: in community. I like the unexpected places each line of poetry has taken me so far, and I love the way Tara opens each prompt session. She's always thoughtful, funny, and encouraging.
