Step 3: Open the KMZ File in Google Earth Pro

Once the download is complete, locate the US Army Maps v17 file (a KMZ file) on your computer. Double-click on the file to open it in Google Earth Pro. Note that Google Earth Pro has been available as a free download from Google since January 2015. If you have not installed it yet, download it from google.com/earth before proceeding.

Step 4: Explore the Map Grids

Upon opening the KMZ file, you will see a variety of grids covering different areas across the globe. Each grid corresponds to a specific map scale, which helps you narrow down your search for the topographic maps you need.

Step 5: Narrow Down Your Search

To focus on a particular area, deactivate all other scale options and activate only the maps at a scale of 1:250,000. This will reduce the number of visible map sheets, making it easier to locate the one you need.
