Sell Music On iTunes Cost

sell music on iTunes cost
How much does it cost to sell music on iTunes?

Selling your music on iTunes can cost anywhere from $5 a month to $100 a year if you are using ADED.US Music Distribution. ADED.US was voted as the best music distribution company by Indie Music Guide.

Understanding the difference between retail and wholesale rates is key on your part. The retail rate is basically the cost to the customer. The wholesale rate (royalty rate) is the ‘cut’ you receive from that sale.

If someone goes on iTunes and purchases your song for 99¢ then iTunes will pay you (actually your music distributor) 70¢ and iTunes will keep 29¢ out of that transaction. The same goes for albums that sell for $9.99. iTunes pays you $7 and keeps $3 for themselves.

Now, here’s the tricky part… is your distributor keeping a cut for themselves? Because most of them do (side note: ADED.US does not).

How To Put Music On Apple Music

aded.us logo play 300PX

If you’re an independent artist and you’ve ever wondered how to get music on Apple Music then you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to tell you about a company that can  do it for you… and for a cheaper price than most other music distribution companies.

Apple tends to only deal with the ‘big fish’, so independent musicians will not be able to upload music to apple music directly. Instead, you will need to go through a middle-man of sorts. Apple calls them ‘aggregators’, and the best aggregator out there is ADED.US Music Distribution, not to be confused with the words added us.

Once your music is available on the iTunes store and Apple Music in general, your fans and customers will be able to download music from Apple Music directly. Although, they would actually be paying a monthly fee to stream your music on Apple Music as opposed to purchasing and downloading it from the iTunes store. There is a difference.

How To Get Your Music On Tidal

If you’re an independent musician, and you’re interested in learning how to get music on Tidal, then you’ve come to the right place. And the answer is simple. Sign up and submit your music to ADED.US Music Distribution and they will upload your music to Tidal for you.

So, you’re probably wondering, why can’t I just upload my music to Tidal myself. Well, it’s because Tidal doesn’t deal with independent musicians individually, and rightfully so… I mean, just look at the mess SoundCloud became.

The music distribution industry is way to tough for any individual artist to navigate on their own. You’ll need a company like ADED.US to represent you. Companies like this are called aggregators. Essentially, ADED.US has contracts with over 1,000 digital music stores and apps around the world and they can service your record to these stores for a small fee. All the guess work is taken out of the music distributor process.

So, if you want to roll with the big boys and be featured alongside the likes of Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Lil Wayne, then sign up with ADED.US and get the ultimate package so that they can upload your music to Tidal.

BullyPAw: What It Means

BullyPAw is an acronym for Bullying and Suicide Prevention and Awareness. This site is dedicated to those who took their own lives as a result of the constant torment they received at the hands of bullies. Bullying is a problem that has become an epidemic and effects more people in more ways than you can possible imagine.

This site will serve as a hub to display resources available to the following types of people:

  • Those people whose children are being bullied, whether it’s in school or in their neighborhood
  • People who have lost a loved one to suicide
  • Parents who have lost a child to suicide as a result of their child getting bullied
  • People who are suicidal

Blink

Jeff Berman – vibraphone
Ben Opie* – saxophones
Jeff Grubbs – bass
Dave Throckmorton – drums

* = Ben Opie filled in for Erik Lawrence on sax

The vibraphone is one of my favorite instruments used in jazz.  It’s percussive and melodic at the same time and the vibrato is incredible. Several of my favorite Blue Note records from the 60’s feature vibist Bobby Hutcherson and one of my favorite musicians doing it right now is Jason Adasiewicz out of Chicago.  Unfortunately, the vibraphone has a few things going against it like its bulky size and lack of availability (I dare you to find one on the sales floor of a Guitar Center or any local music store).  Therefore, it’s not an instrument you encounter very often at weekly jazz sessions.

Having never seen this particular quartet, called Blink, I made it a point to free up…

Digital Music Distribution Deal: How To Sell Your Music on iTunes

Music Distribution Companies

Selling your music on the iTunes store is a lot easier than you might think. Of course, you should know that, iTunes doesn’t do direct deals with independent artists. They only like to do deals with with the big boys. The big boys are those music distribution companies that…

  • have a direct contract with Apple/iTunes
  • have a catalog with approximately 2,000+ artists and/or albums that they intend to distribute to the iTunes store
  • intend to deliver 400+ releases to the iTunes store per month

Apple, and much of the music distribution business, refer(s) to these music distribution companies as aggregators.

The part that bothers me is that, when an independent musician is looking into selling songs or albums on the iTunes store, other bloggers are giving them the details on how to  ‘apply’ to the iTunes store. Well, let me tell you, there is a 99.9% chance you will be rejected immediately because Apple just doesn’t do deals with indies like that.

So, as you would expect, your only other option is to deliver content to iTunes through an aggregator. Right off the bat, I will tell you that the best music distribution companies are:

ADED.US Music Distribution was voted best music distribution company by Indie Music Guide and is based out of Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.. ONErpm is based out of Brazil. RecordUnion is based out of the U.K..
