RULES
● Your character must attend a minimum of SEVEN electives (not counting Flying and Astronomy) in order to qualify for a Time Turner.

● If you possess a Time Turner, you will only be able to turn back time for a few hours or until the start of that day, at most. There are magical restrictions on the Time Turners to prevent students from abusing them, thus only allowing for a few hours at a time (no exceptions).

Students may be dismissed from elective courses at any time by the elective professor. Elective classes must meet once a week and, with the exception of Flying and Astronomy, do not have fixed meeting times or days apart from the elective slots designated by the class schedules. Electives are mixed between all houses unless indicated otherwise by the professors.

Please note that if your student is taking more than seven electives (not counting Flying and Astronomy), you must reply to the Mod Contact page to request a Time Turner.

CO-MOD & APP TEAM APPLICATIONS

Looking to become a co-mod of MagicDraft? You're in the right place! We are are in need of two people to help with modding and two people to help with app judging!

Co-Mod Duties include: cleaning/maintaining lists, reviewing apps, handling player problems, contributing event ideas, etc.

App Mod Duties include: judging at least 2-3 apps daily for quality, characterization, and suitability.

You are not required to have previous mod experience, but it experience is preferred. We need people with a clean record, wise judgment, and without bias, as well as those who are open minded, familiar with the world of Harry Potter, and have plenty of availability. If you've had trouble with mods or players in the past, please keep in mind that you are not likely to be chosen.

You must be a member of the game and we prefer you not have a track record of consistently "idling out" or squatting.

When: Week #. Unfortunately, playing it out meeting by meeting is impractical, so if you intend to have your class played out, professors, please select only one lesson to go into in depth. You can do more, of course, but keeping up with it is on you.
What: Brief description of the day's lesson, if you want to give it.
Rating: Self-explanatory
Warnings: Self-explanatory. This covers both spoilers and potentially triggering/squicky content.

Here is where the professor would either leave some introductory notes for the lesson or outline each stage they intend their students to play out. Outlining the stages is preferable given the format for how the lesson will proceed, which can be found below. If, however, you would prefer to keep your students in the dark about what the lesson will contain (or are making it up as you go along), feel free to stick with just an introduction.

If you are outlining the lesson, please clearly number or label each step so that students can respond to them in the comments. It may seem like a lot of work, but you'll be saving yourself a lot of trouble!

If you only want to play out part of the lesson, list only the steps you want included. The rest can be handwaved.

Here is an example of a lesson outline using potions:

Step One: Snape briefly quizzes the students on potions ingredients or instructions for potion-making covered in the reading or a previous lesson.

Step Two: Snape writes the instructions for the potion the students are to make on the board. The students begin brewing.

Step Three: Snape grades the potions.

Obviously, there can be more steps (and more descriptive ones), but this at least provides a basic idea of what the class will contain and gives the students something tangible to respond to.

NOTES
● First-years are not required to fill in their electives.
● Any student that does not fill in an elective, first-year or otherwise, will be encouraged to convert the free time into study periods. This is not required, but you run the risk of incurring the wrath of any professor that happens to see you slacking off. ~~Ron Weasleys of the world, we are looking at you.~~
● Elective classes have no strict time-frame and are hand-waved at the discretion of professors. Once a week is required, but they may take on their classes whensoever they please.
● All elective classes are mixed between the four houses.
● Students in elective classes may be dismissed from the subject by corresponding professors at any given time.
● There are no strict rules pertaining to Hogwarts schedules. You are required to take the core studies, no matter the school year, but everything else is left to the discretion and preference of your character.
● If you decide to 'pull a Granger' and take everything possible, you will need to have a time-turner authorised at the Mod Contact page. The minimum number of electives required to request a time turner is 7.
● Astronomy and Flying classes have been relegated to electives, given the sheer degree of extra students the Magicdraft spell has pulled into the castle. A full list of canon lessons can be found on the HP WIKI.
● Anyone can take electives, but no one (at present) is permitted to drop their core subjects regardless of age. ~~If you don't like Double Potions, you can cry Professor Snape a river.~~

DYING AT HOGWARTS

If you simply wish to canon update, please visit THIS page!

Should your character die for any reason (let's face it, Hogwarts isn't infallibly safe at times!) three stages will be activated:

1. BODY REMOVAL

● Your character dies! Whoops. Where they are and however much is left of the corpse, it will automatically vanish like smoke within 7 minutes to re-appear in the Infirmary under the care of Madam Pomfrey.
● For 24 hours the body will remain cold and lifeless, no matter what.

2. SEVEN-DAY RESURRECTION

● After the first day of death is complete, the body will return to life and begin to heal.
● However badly it is injured, it will always be returned to 50% by the time 7 days have passed and be healthy enough to leave the Hospital Wing.
● Memories of events immediately prior to death may prove difficult to grasp during this period, but eventually return.

3. FAULTY MAGIC

● One of your character's most prominent magical skills will have been reduced to starter-level ability. You will be forced to re-learn everything in 1 subject (eg, Transfiguration, Potions) from scratch.
● The loss of animagi abilities is acceptable in lieu of a magical subject.

Wands & Wandlore

WANDS & WANDLORE

Your wand is entirely up to you! To help with this exciting new option, we have compiled a list of options that you may want to take into consideration when starting this section on your application. Feel free to choose the type of wand that best suits your character, and remember what Ollivander says: "The wand chooses the wizard!"

WOOD

A wand's wood indicates something significant about both the witch or wizard who wields it and the individual powers and properties of the wand itself. Different woods combined with different cores can introduce even more variations in these areas, strengthening or weakening traits of wood and core alike as well as creating new ones entirely. More information can be found here.

CORE

A wand core is what gives a wand its magical abilities. It can be made up of any one of several different types of magical substances, some more reliable than others. These cores are also likely to influence the "personality" of the wand, determining its temperament and loyalty. More information can be found here. Possible cores include the following: unicorn tail-hair, dragon heart-string, phoenix tail-feather, and other (see below).

LENGTH

Wand lengths are just as variable as the types of wood available, and while they are not always determined by the height of the witch or wizard, they can be! Lengths range from anywhere between very short, like Dolores Umbridge's wand, to very long, like Hagrid's wand or the Elder Wand. The typical range is between 7½ and 15 inches.

Please note that wands shorter than 8" or longer 14" are exceedingly rare but not impossible.

FLEXIBILITY

Just like their masters, the flexibility of a wand can differ. Some wands are very rigid and more likely to break under pressure while others can be quite springy and bendable. Some of these factors depend on the wood, and sometimes it is simply the nature of the wand itself that determines how rigid or malleable a wand can be. The different variations in a wand's flexibility include the following: bendy, brittle, stiff, inflexible, firm, flexible, heavy, light, pliable, rigid, springy, sturdy, supple, swishy, unyielding, and whippy.

STRENGTH

Depending on the combination of a wand's wood and its core, a wand can be surprisingly adept in some areas over others. Given that the wand chooses its wielder, a witch or wizard's individual strengths play a prominent role, too! Some of these strengths include the following: transfiguration, charms, healing, and the dark arts.

CUSTOM WANDS

Does your character possess a magical or otherwise supernatural weapon, artifact, relic, etc.? If so and you choose this option, the item will be transformed into the character's new wand. Please note that the wand's outer shell will still be wood, but the core can consist of the original item, either in an altered state or its natural form. The wand also will not retain any special qualities apart from those that can be translated into an existing canon specialty (charms, transfiguration, etc.).

Some examples of relevant items are the Soul Gems of Magical Girls, the sonic screwdriver of the Doctor, Star Seeds of the Sailor Scouts, and so on. If you're not sure if your character's artifact will qualify, feel free to drop a line in the mod inbox!

GO TO HOGWARTS TEAMS

Tuesday. Windy. Gwenog came for nettle tea, then invited me out for a treat. Ended up watching those numbskulls playing their game on the marsh. That big Scottish warlock from up the hill was there. Now they've got two big heavy rocks flying around trying to knock them all off their booms. Unfortunately didn't happen while I was watching.
Gwenog told me she often played herself.
Went home in disgust.

POSITIONS

KEEPER
Keeping is a position best suited to those who don't mind having the wrath of three Chasers directed at them. Tall and athletic, they wear more protective equipment than any other player, occasionally including a helmet if they so wish. Their job is to guard three goalposts. Keepers are only permitted to leave their area to head off incoming Chasers.

CHASER
Chasers come in groups of three, the bread-and-butter of Quidditch with the oldest position. They exist solely to score goals and arguably fight for possession of the Quaffle, able to work together in order to score ten points with every successful goal. Even if the Snitch is captured by an opposing team, hard-working Chasers may have already tipped the game in their own favour. Only one Chaser is allowed in the scoring area at a time.

BEATER
Beaters are notably a tighter unit than the Chasers, the only two players on the field to be given the use of bats. With these, they are needed to beat off incoming Bludgers so as to protect their teammates and direct the vicious balls at their rivals. Upper-body strength is key for this position, usually leading to wizards landing the placement rather than witches, and it is not uncommon for them to play one-handed.

SEEKER
Seekers are solitary figures on the pitch, the lightest and fastest of their team so as to be able to capture the Golden Snitch. First-years aren't usually chosen for this role, despite their size, as the position is one of the most fouled and therefore dangerous. A game does not usually end until the Seeker catches the Snitch (scoring 150 points) so it is advisable for the entire team to make sure theirs isn't knocked unconscious.

REFEREE
Only the bravest witches and wizards become referees of Quidditch matches. They must be excellent fliers and able to keep track of all fourteen players at once. Madam Rolanda Hooch is the current Flying instructor and Quidditch referee at Hogwarts.

BALLS

QUAFFLE
12 inches in diameter, red, leather-covered, the Quaffle is the main ball. Chasers pass it from one to another and attempt to get it through any of the three rings at the other side of the pitch. Each goal is worth 10 points.

BLUDGERS
These are "nasty little blighters", to say the least. It is round, black and made of solid iron, enchanted to zoom around the pitch and attack players. Beaters should always watch them very closely for the welfare of their team.

GOLDEN SNITCH
Walnut-sized, gold and the fastest ball on the field, the Snitch is the hardest to get hold of and the responsibility of each team's Seeker, who must catch it before their opponent. It is worth 150 points. A game may only end when the Snitch is caught or at the mutual agreement of both captains, but given how incredibly unlikely the latter is, the greatest focus is on seizing it quickly. Before the Snitch is released, it must always be handled with gloves owing to a flesh-memory of the first person that makes contact.

EQUIPMENT

GLOVES
Giving a tighter grip on all the balls, these are rough-palmed and always worn without exception by every player.

ARM-GUARDS
Thick leather-based padding covers the arm from wrist to elbow, cinched in place by three buckled straps.

SHIN-GUARDS
From ankle to knee, the same buckled padding is strapped into place to prevent the most vulnerable part of the body, the legs, from being blown off easily during a match.

KNEE-GUARDS
As an extra precaution, double-buckle segments are provided to cover the kneecaps in the hope of preventing them from being blasted apart.

GOGGLES
In rainy weather, wide goggles are employed so that every player has the ability to see, even those with glasses.

HELMET
A Keeper may wear one of these if they so wish.

BOOTS
Lace-up leather boots reaching to the ankle.

UNIFORMS

ROBES
Each Hogwarts house wears the colours associated with their shield; red and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slythern, blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, black and yellow for Hufflepuff.

Each uniform consists of:

● Set of robes
● Knee-high socks
● Woollen jumper
● Fleece-lined breeches

RULES

The following rules were set down by the Department of Magical Games and Sports upon its formation in 1750:
01.
Though there is no limit imposed on the height to which a player may rise during a game, he or she must not stray over the boundary lines of the pitch. Should a player fly over the boundary, his or her team must surrender the Quaffle to the opposing team.

02.
The Captain of a team may call for the 'time out' by signaling to the referee. This is the only time players' feet are allowed to touch the ground during a match. Time out may be extended to a two-hour period if a game has lasted more then twelve hours. Failure to return to the pitch after two hours leads to the team's disqualification.

03.
The referee may award penalties against a team. The Chaser taking the penalty will fly from the central circle towards the scoring area. All players other than the opposing Keeper must keep well back while the penalty is taken.

04.
The Quaffle may be taken from another player's grasp but under no circumstances must one player seize hold of any part of another player's anatomy.

05.
In the case of injury, no substitution of players will take place. The team will play on without the injured player.

06.
Wands may be taken on to the pitch but under no circumstances be used against opposing team members, any opposing team member's broom, the referee, any of the balls or any member of the crowd.

07.
A game of Quidditch ends only when the Golden Snitch has been caught, or by mutual consent of the two team Captains.

HOGWARTS CASTLE

T H E C A S T L E

Hogwarts is a massive castle with an interior that likes to change of its own accord, boasting 142 staircases (that often swap directions) and numerous floors that regenerate as they please. Finding one's way through the heart of the castle proves very difficult unless an active mind can keep up with every available shortcut that outstrips them, compensating for the playfulness of such an ancient and powerful structure. To the south of the castle sits an enormous loch, commonly termed the Black Lake, whereas the Forbidden Forest lies east, the Quidditch pitch north-west and the entrance due-north.

T H E B L A C K L A K E

A huge loch with unfathomable depths in some places, the lake lies to the south of the castle and is the home of mer-people and the giant squid, the latter of whom is generally very docile. With the arrival of the Magicdrafted, a new structure has been erected beneath the clifftop upon which part of Hogwarts sits, a replica of the room above save for the fact everything is underwater. This is where the water-dwelling Magicdrafted learn their craft with a trunk that regularly updates on the new subjects of the day. Any of these new additions to the school could walk out onto dry land, if they have the ability, because nothing stops them from mingling with the world above. All boundaries between the side of the lake granted to new arrivals and that of the original residents are not clearly defined by human standards and the giant squid delights in swimming wherever it pleases.

T H E F O R B I D D E N F O R E S T

Here is where the wilder students make their home, four-legged or too large, who would be uncomfortable permanently living inside the castle. They return to the forest each night where it is strongly advised they do not wander too deeply from the boundaries circumventing the edge; centaurs are quick to fire arrows and acromantulas will bite first only to ask questions later. It is considered out of bounds to students that do not call the woodland their retreat.

T H E H E A D M A S T E R ' S O F F I C E

Whenever Dumbledore returns to the castle, this will be his first point of call. The interior is riddled with magical instruments and lined with bookcases under striking purple velvet draperies, a perch in the corner standing sentry while Fawkes is away with its master. If you are called here on the rare occasions the headmaster comes back to the school, you had better hope it's to be given a lemondrop and not a telling off. The entrance lies behind a gargoyle on the first floor that can talk but most days chooses not to. This is one room in the entire castle that cannot be gained entry to by anyone but the rightful headmaster and at his invitation.

T H E H O S P I T A L W I N G

With so many new students, the infirmary has been expanded to cover two floors, not including the storage level. This is where the injured and ill will find themselves recovering under the watchful eye of Madam Pomfrey, the school matron, the wing itself being located very close to the headmaster's office.

HOGSMEADE VILLAGE

HOGSMEADE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO ALL STUDENTS

As the only all-wizarding village in Britain, Hogsmeade offers a unique experience for the denizens of Hogwarts. Only professors are currently granted access but this will change over time and, with permission slips signed by their heads of house (in the case of all Magicdrafted), weekend visits will be sanctioned. All first- and second-years must be accompanied by an older student in order to gain permission.

THE THREE BROOMSTICKS
The go-to option for students and professors alike, Madam Rosmerta's smokey and crowded pub is the prevailing inn of the village, serving butterbeer and cheery-syrup soda to students. There is a sign beside the front door, however, proclaiming no one underage will be served anything alcoholic.

THE HOG'S HEAD
Disreputable and dirty, the Hog's Head is owned and operated by Aberforth Dumbledore. It's a somewhat shabby establishment where more illicit goings-on are conducted and shady characters frequent, and as such not the kind of place any professor would be pleased to learn their students had been patroning.

HONEYDUKE'S
Honeyduke's is a cheerful and popular sweet shop with a secret entrance to Hogwarts located in the cellar. It has a very bright interior to match the garish pink one hanging outside and can usually be found bustling with Hogwarts students every weekend.

ZONKO'S JOKE SHOP
A famous joke shop even by wizarding standards, Zonko's stocks enough jokes and tricks to keep even the most enthusiastic prankster on their toes. Cheap and cheerful, a number of products from this store are usually abroad in the school despite Filch the caretaker's on-going battle against them.

DERVISH AND BANGES
If you need anything repairing, then this useful shop is exactly what you're looking for. It sells and repairs a wide range of magical instruments including, but not limited to, every Quidditch enthusiast's favourite racing broom.

DOGWEED & DEATHCAPS
A Herbology shop that sells an exciting (and somewhat lethal) array of exotic plants, although you could also buy a perfectly nice bunch of flowers.

POTAGE'S CAULDRON SHOP
Selling every kind of cauldron you could ever want, this small branch of Mr. Potage's outlets is the best place to get any spare equipment you might have melted during a Potions lesson.

THE MAGIC NEEP
A magical greengrocer with a cart that can often be seen here and there along the high street.

HOGSMEADE POST OFFICE
Watch your head when you enter this shop, there are over two to three-hundred owls in residence just waiting to be selected for a delivery. All the shelves are colour-coded based on how fast the birds will fly to their destination.

TOMES & SCROLLS
A specialist bookshop that might be able to help with homework, if you have enough money to buy the right text.

HOGSMEADE STATION
Despite being located on the opposite side of Hogwarts to the village (and quite the walk if you miss your carriage-ride) the station is seemingly out of order. The red Hogwarts Express is silent and puffs no steam, almost as if it is no longer needed. Numbers on the station time-table tend to tumble over themselves in confusion.

THE SHRIEKING SHACK
Reputably one of the most haunted and terrifying houses in Britain, the Shrieking Shack has forsaken its namesake these days and stands docile. It owns a secret passageway into Hogwarts that can only be accessed if the knot at the base of the Whomping Willow is held down.

PLAYER INFORMATION
NAME: Your name or online alias.
AGE: How old you are: you must be 16 to apply to this game.
JOURNAL: Your personal livejournal where we can contact you.
AIM/PLURK/EMAIL: Whichever contact method you would prefer from the playerbase.
CURRENT CHARACTERS: Only include this if you already play anyone in the game.
CHARACTER INFORMATION
SERIES: Whichever canon your character is from.
NAME: Your character's full name (and any surplus).
RACE: Human/non-human? Hogwarts lets in the strangest people! If your character is technically dead/a spirit, it's worth noting they will now be alive. Whether they are human or not as a result of that is up to you.

AGE: Please state here how old your character is and, if they are 15 or under, include the sentence, I understand that I will be unable to have this character engage in sexual acts within the game while they are underage. If your character ages up canonically or via an update to be sixteen in-game, the ban will be lifted. This part is simply to prove you have acknowledged the restrictions on their age at the time of their entry.
CANON POINT: The stage at which your character will be taken from.
REFERENCES: Any reputable reference for the series your character is from, such as a wiki page.
GENDER: Both physically and mentally.
APPEARANCE: What your character looks like when they arrive at Hogwarts.

PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS: This is the main section we will be looking at. In lieu of an exaggerated history section, here is where you will need to provide an in-depth and enriched explanation of your character's motivations and the reason why they belong in two houses. The first house you detail will be considered your main elective, but it is required for you to pick a second in the event that too many characters have already been apped into your original choice and a balance needs to be struck. Please let us know if you are dead-set on your original choice or don't mind bending either way so that you are not sent to a house you will find it difficult to have your character settle into.

COMMUTER DETAILS: If you wish to align your character with Voldemort's forces, please specify whether your commuter will be tapped or untapped by the Death Eaters. Only your character will be able to read his instructions via the device, but you are free to discuss his instructions/designs at any time. You cannot read updates from another tapped commuter, so don't lose your own!

POSITION: Are you applying to be a student or a professor? If it's the latter, please refer to the FAQ before you fill in this section.

CURRICULUM: If you are applying to be a professor we ask that you give a brief explanation of what course you feel your character would be best to teach during his time at Hogwarts. Please keep in mind that the core classes are still taught by the core teachers (Mcgonagall, Sprout, Snape, and Flitwick). This section should also cover a basic outline of what they will teach in the class (ie: a lesson plan if you will).

ABILITIES & POWERS: Here, we would like to see what types of magic or classes your character will excel in based on their canon abilities. However strong or weak your character is, let us know. Remember, any insanely strong characters apped in as students will only be as strong as a seventh-year despite their age - any characters apped in as a professor will be stronger than all the students put together but weaker than the entire faculty. This is to avoid IC godmodeing. An explanation of how you think any canon powers or personality traits will translate into Harry Potter 'verse powers (better at one subject, weaker at another) is required.

WAND: The wand your character will be using in the game. What it's made of/good for, etc. and if it has been created from any particular magical artifact/ability your character possessed prior to Hogwarts. Justification is requested to provide further character insight. (For further details, see here.)

MISC.: Anything else you think the mods need to be made aware of.

WRITING SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON:
Please submit this in the form of a network post using either Video, Audio, Text or Quill. We want to get a general feel for your grasp on the character's temperament, meaning their inner and outer voices. Make sure that your sample includes at least some sort of action as well, ie: if you from a series such a homestuck we want to see that you can write more than just the character's text quirks.

THIRD PERSON:
This should be written in the form of a log post; prose or action are acceptable. Please write this to reflect the character's response to the world of Hogwarts. This section needs to be at least 250 words.

GUIDELINES

● Check the Taken List!

● You may reserve up to 2 characters at one time.

● A limit of 5 total characters allowed in-game means you cannot reserve/app a 6th.

● Reserves are effectively calling shotgun; unless the person who gets there first wishes to drop their reserve, no one else may reserve the same character even if the series deviates: eg, Cloud Strife in Crisis Core being reserved is the only Cloud Strife that will be allowed unless the claim is relinquished and the position re-opened.

● Reserves will last until the end of the application cycle, the 14th of each month.

● You may only reserve the same character 3 times in a row. If you fail to apply or find yourself rejected after three attempts the mods will no longer accept any future reserves from you for that specific character.
