Info updated on:

GhostReader is a Mac program that can read texts for you and play them through your sound output devices. This utility might prove to be of good use if you want to easily turn your text projects, such as books or research material, into quality audiobooks.

The tool uses Mac's built-in speech profiles and lets you listen to your written text. You can either paste text content within the program's interface or import a text document from your local folders. Then, all you need to do is to click the play button and listen to the written words.

You can always switch to a different speech profile by going to the Preferences panel of the utility. GhostReader also provides you with options for setting the proper reading speed, sound volume, etc.

Another great thing is that you can define a wide range of shortcut keys to immediately complete certain tasks in GhostReader (skip to the next sentence, play speech, read next paragraph, etc.). You also have access to a comprehensive help manual that comes in handy if you're new to this type of Mac tools.

The one aspect you need to consider is that the program lets you export the audiobooks to only one format (M4A) and the text content to 2 formats (RTF and TXT). It isn't a big deal as the formats are compatible with many Mac programs.

Hence, GhostReader proves to be a reliable solution for listening to written text on your Mac.

An interesting tool, we can play with. The possibility to record the track I like most. It seems to be possible to do audio books from the written ones you like, though I'm not sure about the quality of the out-coming file. Besides I consider it to be a rather expensive one.
