Well my daughter has shown me the newer 'Sherlock' series. Not bad, not bad at all! I still adore ( and see it as a definitive version) the Jeremy Brett portrayal of Sherlock Holmes; but I can see the appeal of the modernised Sherlock too. Personally I think they stand together rather well.

Kiddies are back at Uni/College/School as of next week which means things will either slow down or get crazy. Why is it never somewhere in the middle?
Ooh, talking of middles my ASD MB did some work experience and they liked him so much he was offered a job. He isn't 16 yet so he has a massive application to fill in . . but ... Yes! *Yah boo sucks* to all those people who never give him a chance!!

Grandmother was in hospital again earlier this year but is now much better, back at home and looking forward to being 96 *crossing fingers etc.,*

Sadly my sister lost one of her doggies as the female was run over and the shock was too much for her. The male is still pining for his sister . . .

Might go into town on Monday. I do this roughly once a year, because after going to London for the day you realise you are quite happy living in the country!

Also? I want it to be long sleeve weather soon. I know that isn't the majority view but WAH! If I wanted the heat I'd be living somewhere warmer!! lol

We watched Eurovision last night. Or rather, I attempted to watch Eurovision whilst surrounded by chattering small fry. I wanted Malta to win - if only to watch them attempt to fit the entirety of the contest into their island . . . . .
The girlie is still singing that particular song. Personally I was also rather bemused by the high pitch singing dracu-like. Excellent! :-)

My cousin has finally been told she is lactose intolerant (read: very allergic) and has been informed that she should avoid dairy at all costs. She's moaning at me, of all people, as to why so much food contains dairy and how expensive the non-dairy alternatives are. That's right, dear - moan at the vegan, lol ;-)

I have a pretty purple sofa coming soon - hopefully it will match my walls!!

<lj-embed id="40" />

Yes, finally! Can log in properly once more - it was truly driving me mad repeatedly getting an error message!

Well now . . .

Still knitting - have knitted a jumper for one of my eldest's friends in Scotland. That went into the post today so hopefully he'll receive it tomorrow. :-)

Grandmother had another scare and has been in hospital; only this time it was fairly serious - to the point of the doctors asking my mother whether or not they should resuscitate her if she went. Grandmother has miraculously pulled through. Honestly, I think if she wasn't so strong-willed she'd be gone long before now . .

The girlie will be 17 on the 20th. Kind of scary! She seems to be enjoying her college course though.

Other than that it's really quite quiet around here. Nothing much happening!

Well now. Olympics in full swing - girlie quite liked the boxing . . .

The one-eyed sausages-on-legs that are the mascots are a little disturbing, though . . . I know what they're meant to be, but to me they just look like one-eyed sausages. Sorry. ;-)

Ahem. Anyway, small fry are doing their thing - eldest is studying for his Bsc, girlie is off to college in September, MB is supposed to be doing full days at school again when the holidays finish and youngest has had a massive physics discussion with his great-uncle today. His great-uncle's hip is actually healing really well - from the end of June to now and he is only using one crutch instead of the zimmer frame/wheelchair. Result, I think!

Our family photograph collection is expanding; we keep finding cousins, lol. Seriously, I've found some in Leicester and Aberdeen that are the Gib side of the family! Knew about Wakefield, Hull and the lot in Christchurch NZ but not the Leicester and Aberdeen people! I'm always saying (jokingly) that Gib people are all related and then life goes and proves it for me! ;-)

Hopefully going into London at the weekend (not to the Olympics but for a meeting and some food) so that should prove interesting :-D

You know what I have realised? In between all the stress of the last couple of years, we still manage to get on well as a family. :-D
If my teenagers choose to skip along the pavement, I will join them. We sit on trains and play 'I Spy' and clapping games. If my daughter cannot reach shelves in the supermarket I will climb them to reach what she was after . . . My children all dress for themselves, not as other people expect; we look very eclectic on days out, lol . . . but they each have respect for themselves and others. They hug in public (and why shouldn't they?!). We've taken to bowing if people stare at us as a group - we have it synchronised. Two able-bodied and two disabled children make for interesting journeys. If my middle son wants to waddle like a penguin for a few minutes, that's perfectly fine, too. It doesn't make him odd or strange or lacking in 'moral fibre'. It's called personality.
So; we manage to carry on even with outside influences making it very hard for MB to receive his education. Even when the girlie has to have help with her skin and cannot reach anything designed for people her age. Even when the eldest and youngest need peace and quiet and simply don't get it. They know that they have support behind them and we're aware that they all look after one another. We're still getting on okay - and that's important.

So, today I have:

i. Sorted out uniforms and bags, shoes for the kiddies' new school term

ii. Written a list of items still needed and prepared the shopping trip

iii. Re-arranged the optician's appointments, which had been cancelled

iv. Translated from Spanish to French for school notices

v. Found and released a Giant Ichneumon wasp which seemed to be making a home on the front room window.

So there is a certain amount of satisfaction, followed by a full-body shiver. Yeuch, wasps.

The house decorating continues apace; during September I intend to pull up carpets and replace them with laminate tiles in the downstairs cloakroom and my daughter's bedroom and pull up the carpet and varnish the stairs.

His sister emigrated to NZ and her daughter has also been researching the archives, so....

My great grandfather circa 1899 ish

and a little later on with my great-grandmother and great aunt:

and the elder members with their parents, great, grandfather, great-grandmother, great uncle and two great aunts:

I also pranced off to Norwich last Friday and had a lovely time wandering around the cathedral and city. The herb garden particularly caught my attention and I shall probably picspam shortly!!

Have also been wandering into Aylesbury and pottering around and a Buckingham visit is on the cards for next week. At least the house is fairly tidy (and newly decorated) so I don't feel too guilty about visiting hither and yon!

We have a B5 marathon occurring as the eldest has decided he rather likes the series; so I wandered onto youtube and found this:

<lj-embed id="34" />

Who doesn't love Marcus?

Have had a wonderfully profitable weekend in that my sister and I have decorated several rooms in the house. Looks great. She's coming back in September to help me rip up carpets and put floor tiles down/paint stairs etc.,

Both Uncle and cousin are now after something of a similar size/engine size/price, and keep asking me questions regarding mileage and repair costs/insurance etc., It's very odd indeed.....

I have bought the kiddies their new phones for school (they get a mobile and the door key when they start senior school) so now it is just the uniform. Am somewhat miffed at having to pay for their coursework texts that they have to study for GCSE, however. So far, there are three English texts and one German text book. I expect to pay for other supplies - pens, pencils, calculators, exercise books - but the texts?! Not happy.

Also, I am in the middle of editing a mammoth piece of prose which seems to be eating into any sleep time! Nephew has an inflamed appendix and is on weird antibiotics which are supposedly designed to shrivel your appendix so it can be removed, too.

Other than that, everything is dandy!

    <lj:music>Dead Promises - The Rasmus</lj:music>

I've just discovered that my daughter will be following the OCR examinations board (which I personally prefer) and one of her required texts is Pride and Prejudice. She read that when she was under ten years old. It's actually one of her favourites. Yay! Getting her to read Of Mice and Men may be a challenge, though......

In other stuff and nonsense: the youngest is at his Induction Day for the senior school, and on Friday managed to get his cricket team to the final of their tournament. Left-handed pull shots ftw! Actually he also apparently hit a couple of boundaries and quite a few fours so I am a proud mummy at the mo.

The eldest has returned from his week long trip to Wales and all he would discuss with me was the fact that someone in his shared room had a rich tea biscuit addiction. Honestly! Actually he did speak to me on Tuesday last and muttered about lichen and gravestones, so I assume he enjoyed the trip.

So, to my middle boy.....who is not having so much fun. Had a big meeting where the DDA was quoted and questions where asked regarding the bullying he has suffered all year long. Not kidding when I say he no longer wears a tie to school because we replaced four of them and then decided that £20 worth of replacement ties was enough. Not to mention the two sports kits which have 'mysteriously' disappeared (try around £100 a time). All the people at the big meeting could do was offer solutions we have already put in place - oh and blame middle boy for it all. We named names. The SENco ( who is valiantly fighting the middle boy's corner) named names. We await the results; am not happy though with that aspect of the school and their unwillingness to deal with the root cause of the issue. Not happy at all - to the extent I have investigated other systems, schools, locations and finally Education Otherwise. Oh yes indeed. Also if this is not resolved a letter may be winging it's papery way to the LEA. We shall see...

Hubby's shoulder is now better and he has been discharged from the physiotherapy unit; although he has lumbered himself with a massive project. That's what happens when you point out glaring errors, I suppose. ;-)

Anyway, I shall be wishing fervently on the next shooting star. lol ;-)
