Life is always full of suprises

This is what's been going on in my life since Friday afternoon. My parents came to visit which is something they do fairly often because we are very close. They had news. After almost 45 years of marriage, they are getting divorced. I know that I'm 25, so it shouldn't affect me as much right? Not the case. My parents have never been ones to argue or show real signs of this coming. They had been talking to a lawyer for a week before telling my brother and I. Now I will literally be stuck between them, as my mom is moving 1 1/2 hours north of me. Daddy is 1 1/2 hours south. It's just a total shock, so I've been feeling pretty down since Friday. The upside is that it is mutual and there is no fighting going on.

Anyone else read the book? I'm so excited for the movie! Also it doesn't hurt that Mark Walhburg is in it! Here's an article of Peter Jackson talking about the film:

The Lovely Bones
The Lovely Bones is what Jackson described as "a thriller," and its a fairly liberal adaptation of a novel by Alice Sebold about a teenage girl who is murdered in the early 1970s. In the mythos of the book (and the movie), the afterlife is based on whatever you believed or experienced in real life, and so the main character's idea of life after death is "very 1970s," as Jackson put it. "We actually watched episodes of The Partridge Family for inspiration for [main character] Sue's idea of heaven," he said.

We watched a 4 minute series of clips from the film, which reminded me a little bit of The Virgin Suicides with its teenage girl protagonist wandering in a pubescent daze through a world of glowing, 1970s murderous weirdness. Saoirse Ronan, who plays main character Sue, is the perfect combination of tentative girl and anguished proto-adult. Stanley Tucci is almost unrecognizable (and amazing) as her killer. And the images of Sue's afterlife are like Lord of the Rings on acid: Jackson calls it "hallucinatory," and he's right. He also said they worked hard not to make it a tearjerker, so expect an intense experience but not one designed to make you get out your handkerchief.

Tidbit: In real life, Gerard Butler has a law degree, used to sing lead in a Scottish rock band, and once received a bravery commendation for saving a young boy from drowning.

Glee was a great show! I wish I didn't have to wait till the fall for the whole season. Everyone should go download it for free on Itunes.

I rented Fanboys and it was actually not bad. The release date has been changed so many times that you never know. It had Seth Rogan, William Shatner, Billy Dee Williams, and Princess Leia in cameos. Pretty awesome. I loved how they asked "What if it sucks?" before watching Star Wars Episode I. Because it does!

Watched the trailer for Vampire Diaries. Can't wait for the show! Now I have to read the book before fall, so I know the storyline. http://bit.ly/DRbil

My rants on my favorite shows this week so far (and not including Gossip Girl: haven't watched it yet). Behind the cut because of spoilers.

The Hills (No spoilers)

Everyone except Lauren annoys the hell out of me yet I can't stop watching. It's sick. Lauren, you are lucky for getting out while you can. I'm a little intrigued by this rumor that Kristen C. will be taking over, however. Anyways, Audrina is stupid and wears Justin Bobby's hats. Stephanie Pratt is completely brain dead. And Speidi is well just Speidi.

Pretty Wicked

Sarah C won. WTF? She needed therapy, not a reality tv show. She gets rewarded for popping pills, lying, and being a gold digger? Umm ok. Not the point of the show, but whatever. Katie was my favorite all season, but Sarah R should have actually won. She was the one that actually changed, which is what I thought this show was about. Reality tv sucks me in, so I hope there is a reunion special.

ANTM

I really wanted Allison to win. How can the judges sit there and say Tatyona needs to go back to model boot camp and then choose her as the winner? Allison was the most improved. I'm a little upset about this decision.

90210

Silver and Annie's ex are so getting together. That is the drama that makes this show. Silver and Dixon never had anything in common anyway. Her winning a write-in for prom queen when she doesn't even go to the school? Cheesy. Liam is never going to be as cool as Luke Perry. Sorry buddy. I do wish things work out between him and Naomi though. They'd be a great dramatic couple. Can't believe next week is the season finale!

Will post my review for the movie S. Darko later tonight.

STEP ONE

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO

- Surf around your friends list (or friend's friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
- Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
