Funny thing, I started making icons today and as I'm looking for good pictures to icon, more and more pictures crop up...does it ever stop? I feel like I've seen the entire film already! Anyway, hope someone is interested and looking for some new OotP icons! also made a few icons with the very new Emma and Dan pictures that showed up. I'm not sure if I like the new Emma pictures, I hardly recognize her, and the pics look like one of the many manips that have been made of her over the years!

HI :)

Can't get enough of the OotP madness, so I made some more icons and tried my hand at a few wallpapers. If you have some time, click the link. There's obviously lots of HP, but there are also some icons with the new picture of jack sparrow (film 3, looking very singaporian(?) ). And there are some wallpapers with..flowers. If you haven't seen the new OotP clips, then beware of spoilers (nothing big, but still).

Hi everyone!!

It's been ages since I updated, about 9 months...I've been home from my trip tp South America for some time now, I just haven't had a lot of inspiration...there are so many, many talented iconmakers out there, it's a bit daunting I guess...I have been on LJ a lot though, I still know about all the crazyness going on, esp. the latest OOTP craze! :)
Anyway, a couple of days ago I opened photoshop again, and I tried out some dfferent things...I like some icons better than others, but let me know which ones you like!

I can't believe this is the first time I'm updating since the release of HBP...that seems ages ago
How is everyone?
Lately I've had very little inspiration, which is so frustrating, because almost none of my icons turn out the way I want them to. Still, by now there are a few that I do like, and it's about time I updated again :P
This batch includes many candle icons that I made a long time ago but I haven't come around to posting them yet, so here they are...Apart from that there is the usual Harry Potter theme and some random icons as well.

There was a request by chipping for a tutorial of this icon, so here it is!

I can't find the picture in it's original size, but this is the base I used for my icon:

with almost every icon I make I start with the same basic steps:
-duplicate the base and desaturate it completely, you can do that in a fast way by holding down ctrl alt u
- duplicate the base again (the colored version) and set it above the desaturated layer. Set this layer to soft light (100%)

It will now look like this:

- Now duplicate the 'soft light' layer and leave this on soft light (100%)
- Duplicate your second layer (the desaturated one) and set it on top of all your other layers. Set the opacity to soft light (100%).
The icon looks like this:

Now I know I said I always do the same basics steps with every icon. However, I never do exactly the same. What I mean is that I always duplicate the layer and desaturate it. The other steps may vary: sometimes it's better to set a few layer to screen or multiply. After trying different things I found that I liked it best this time with all the layers set to 'soft light'.

Anyway, to continue:
- create a new layer, fill it with a dark blue color (I did 020210) and set the layer to exclusion. it hardly makes any difference, but whatever :P

Now here comes the tricky part:
- Create another new layer, set it to exclusion and set your color to a light pink (I can't remember exactly what color I did, something like F4E1F3). Now fill the layer with a gradient. If everything goes well you will get a gradient that flows from the light pink color to white/transparent!. Change the angle of the gradient to something like 45 degrees.
Make sure you have your gradient set to transparency, otherwise it won't work.
The icon looks something like this:

Hmm now you can only see her face, but nothing of her neck of anything.
- Duplicate the desaturated layer, drag it above the exclusion layer you just made, and set it so 'soft light'(64%). Now you can see a bit of her neck and collar, but it all looks a bit..vague..

- Duplicate the desaturated layer again (don't worry, this is the last time) and set it to soft light (43%).

Now we need to make it all look 'one', the blueish hair in the corner looks a bit weird. Make a new layer, set it to exclusion. fill the layer with this gradient, which I think is by crumblingwalls, correct me if I'm wrong :)

As you can see I changed the angle of the gradient a bit. Drag the layer under the desaturated layer, the one that is set to 43%. Does it look something like this:

good :)
- Make a new layer, fill it with this gradient, also by crumblingwalls

Set it to Color burn (70%), and make sure it is on top of all the other layers:

Well to finish the icon I added a brush, on a new layer. it is this brush, and I'm not sure who made it..

Anyway, I did the brush using a white color. Then I resized it to make it a small box (you can use ctrl t). I dragged the brush layer under the last three layers (the two gradients and the desaturated layer). Then I copied it, dragged it all the way up, and set it to 50%.

The same goes for the tiny text brush I used.

(Oh and I think you can imagine that I won't be happy if you just make the exact same icon and claim it as yours).

TUTORIAL

This is my first tutorial, hope you like it!
We'll be making this:

I use PS7, but perhaps it's also possible in other Photoshop programs. I think you need the basic knowledge for icon-making to completely understand it, I tried to make it as clear as possible though.

It’s not the best icon I ever made or whatever, but just thought I’d share it anyway…

We’re starting with this picture , that I resized to make it 100x100:

[x] sharpen it once
[x] duplicate layer and set the saturation to –100 (You can do that by holding ctrl + u)
[x] duplicate the bottom layer again (the colored one) and set it to screen (100%), then drag it above the saturated one
[x] duplicate the screened layer and set it to overlay (100%), this layer should be on top
[x] duplicate overlay layer and saturate it to –100, set the opacity at soft light, 78%

You should have this now:

Okay, now make a new layer and fill it with the color #010613 and set it to exclusion (I do this with almost every icon, it’s very handy)

Make another new layer and fill it with the color #D7B9B9 ( light pink color) and set the layer to soft light:

The color layers only make it slightly different, but still…

Another new layer, and this time we’re using a brush. Choose the normal round brush, with a diameter of 13. Make sure your color is completely white (#FFFFFF).
Now, while holding down the shift-button drag a line at the left side of the icon. In this way you can make your own border, like in the picture.

Create another layer and hold down the following keys: ctrl+shift+alt+e
In this way you copy the entire icon on a new layer. Resize this to the size I used in the icon (you can resize by holding down ctrl + t ). Drag the small picture to the right place and sharpen the layer.
To make the small pic stand out more I made a white border around it. You can do this in several ways. I did it by creating another layer which I made sure was under the layer with the small pic. Then with the ‘rectangle tool’ I made a small white square (the square is behind the pic so you only see a thin border) I hope this is clear.

Now I duplicated the small pic and set it to ‘difference’. I wasn’t sure where to put it, in the end I dragged it to the bottom of the icon. This is how it looks now.

I made two new layers. One of them has a flowery white brush, it’s placed a bit randomly. On the other layer I added a tiny-text brush in a dark red color.

In another new layer I added this gradient which I think is by crumblingwalls, correct me if I’m wrong :) The layer is set to color burn.

I wanted to have some sort of dark border on the right side. I picked a random texture and copied it on the layer, then dragged it to the right (It doesn’t really matter what texture or picture you choose, as long as it’s dark). I made sure this layer was behind the gradient layer.

To finish it I added the text ‘WHY’. The font is ICT Garamont, size 14. I made sure the text was very longdrawn (180%), then I rasterized the layer and (while holding down shift so that I could make a straight line) I erased the very bottom part of the letters.

Please don't copy and make the exact same icon I made, that would be totally useless. You can take the icon, but please comment and credit me.

well, I'm back with a fresh iconbatch...
I tried out some different styles, so there may be some that'll make you go WTF??!
but hopefully there are also some that might not be too bad :)

the small notes:
17 & 18 were made for hhr_chorus, the text for the first one is: 'it started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this' (from Mr. Birghtside, by The Killers),
for the second one: 'it's impossible to ignore you' (from Goodnight and Go, by Immogen Heap)
22-24 bases are by wizzicons
23&24 it says: 'my soul is painted like the wings of a butterfly', no idea where that quote came from.

If someone wants to have a certain text on one of the icons, or have something removed, just tell me (I'm not good using the right words on icons, so any ideas are welcome :).

just a question, whoever is reading this :)

our data-limit (or maybe it's called bandwidth :\ ), has gone up with, like, 300% last month, and our server was threatening to slow down our connection...
anyway, this is probably because I posted a few iconposts in febuari, and I was wondering if that is because people are hotlinking or is it 'normal'? I guess what I am asking is, if this can be prevented or not? (I use photobucket to host my icons...) I'm a real muggle when it comes to internet and stuff like that =)

Well, I hope that made sense :) Help!

Hi, how's everybody doing? I had a pretty tough week, so much to do for school...but it's finally weekend, and I'm celebrating by sharing some icons with you :)
