What Are Missions?

Missions are a chance for characters to be sent on special assignment outside of the Luceti enclosure. It's a chance for them to 'prove their worth' and escape the daily slice of life that often pervades the village. For the most part, mission details are assumed and not played out. For the players, objectively their purpose is to serve as an IC reason for characters to be removed from the village during hiatus. These missions are treated as an in-character volunteer only operation, meaning that characters who would be unwilling or unable to participate will not be able to go on missions.

Each mission has a variable amount of time for how long it lasts, depending on the wishes of the player. In general, a mission should at least take place three days and not extend for over two weeks without mod permission. In order to emulate the 'randomness' of kidnapping, characters will, in-game, receive only a one day notice of being sent on a mission. If they continue to refuse multiple missions, they will no longer be requested by the Malnosso to go on them, providing characters an incentive to proceed with a mission, in spite of whatever current affairs in the game might look like. During their missions, they will not be in possession of the their journals, making it impossible to communicate or interact with the rest of the game.

What if I want to play out a mission?

If players would like, they can play out interactions if two or more characters are sent on the same mission. During these missions, players may use generic NPCs (which are described in the Nitpicker's Guide and are distinct from the ones played by the mods) as background characters for tags, but we do discourage making them a focal point of your threading. They are to be used as 'flavor', not as the main ingredient of your interaction. Most interaction with NPCs should thus be assumed.

There are two overall types of missions. There are those that are 'generic' and can be used multiple times as described here. Threading on missions of these type will NOT be acceptable for Activity Checks. We do not wish to encourage players to keep their characters constantly away from the village. We still expect most of your tagging to take place in the village enclosure. Conversely, one-time only missions are created for plot-developing purposes and only a limited number of people will be able to go on them. These threads will be allowed for Activity Checks.

NOTE: For any threads taking place during a mission, please limit these to taking place on the lucetilogs community or in individual appointment posts.

Why would my character go?

As described on the IC Malnosso post on the subject, characters will be able to accumulate rewards for going on missions. The most basic rewards will be the sort of items that Bil used to distribute freely - such as electronics, books, instruments, items from home, and so on. Characters may choose to go on multiple missions in order to earn special rewards that will grant them 'immunity' to experiments, drafts, and kidnappings.

Naturally as the player you may not share your character's interest in achieving these results. Please note that these items will not be easy to obtain and do not have 100% functionality. These items simply provide an extra incentive for altruistic or selfish characters who would not be interested in a new electric guitar and would prefer to secure means to avoid drafts either for themselves or a friend.

Can my character get hurt or die?

Some combat-missions will result in a character getting wounded, depending on the player's decision. The Malnosso will generally send wounded Luceti subjects back with their injuries bandaged and tended to, but further attention may be required from Luceti's various doctors and healers.

In general, characters should not die on missions. However, if you'd like to have your character die on a mission, please contact a moderator about it first.

What do I need to know about missions?

Very little. You have the option of handwaving the interactions and may choose to have your character not remember the mission at all. If you would like to take the time and consideration to know what they are doing on the mission, the [LINK] Nitpickers Guide details the various aspects of going on missions.

Can I still kidnap my character?

You can! This is not meant to replace involuntary kidnappings. Instead, this is only an alternative for people to 'hiatus' their character without the negative connotations of captivity by ruthless Malnosso scientists.

Can my characters study or understand [insert item]?

It varies. Malnosso use technologies that in some ways mirror our own, but in some ways are more advanced. Most technologies will not be too difficult for a person to understand if they would have no trouble with modern technology. However, many of the more unique machines (such as the droids) will often run on an indeterminable power source, this being the result of a special Shift. The Malnosso are careful to guard the secrets of Shifting and characters will unfortunately never get a chance to closely study it. They will be absolutely unable to access Shift Machinery at all.

The special bonus items (such as the anti-draft bracelet) can be taken apart, but without an understanding of Shifting, characters will be unable to duplicate its effects in Luceti. Thus the only way to receive such items is through the Mission Program.

How do I sign up?

You don't need to! However, you may post your character [LINK] here and keep track of their time on missions, drafts, and kidnappings. You are not required to keep track of your information here, but doing so will be to your own benefit and the rest of the game.

For special one time missions, you must respond, ICly, with your character here. This is the only way your character may be considered for a mission. Please do not volunteer characters for missions they are unsuited for. The Malnosso will know which people are not fit for a mission, but we moderators don't always know your character as well as the Malnosso do.

Mission Suggestions

This is where you can make a suggestion as to what type of mission you would like to see. The general mission categories are the following:

Combat Observation: The Malnosso put the subjects in Battle Dome scenarios, under various settings, to log their combat effectiveness and abilities
Test Subject: Volunteer for various experimental scenarios
Reconnaissance: Work to infiltrate a facility or scout out a previously unexplored terrain
Retrieval: Recover specific objects, people, or documents
Ability-Specific: Missions that require special abilities, like being able to breathe underwater
Guerrilla Warfare: Characters are sent out on either solo or small group missions to conduct guerrilla warfare against Third Party camps or groups
Guard Duty: Protect convoys of Malnosso supplies from Third Party raids or other criminals
Medical Assistance: Work either in Malnosso hospitals or on battlefields assisting Malnosso doctors in healing and care efforts
Labor: Missions that require physical labor or heavy physical labor of some variety (cooking, cleaning, heavy lifting, debris removal, etc)
Mechanical Maintenance: The upkeep and repair of non-specialized Malnosso machinery, buildings, etc
World Research: Characters are assigned to research history, culture, magic, or another facet of another character's world

(PART 2)

Some people have requested an additional guide to things that only certain people/characters would care about. Since including this information would make the FAQ obscenely tl;dr, additional details will be kept here and added onto periodically.

Disclaimer: These are not rules. These are guidelines for players who want world-specific details. PLEASE keep that in mind, and don't panic if you see something current (or recall something in the past) that doesn't coincide with this list. It's meant to be flexible and offer players more material to work with, NOT to restrict anyone. These are the official standards of the game, but we won't be griping at anyone who's done things differently in the past, since that would be silly.

Kidnapping

Playfully dubbed "mallynapping" by most of the players, a kidnapping occurs when the Malnosso decide to individually capture and experiment on a character at their facilities outside the barrier. This is often used as a method of explaining a character's absence during a hiatus, or to create a player plot, or just to give players and their characters something to do. Kidnappings can be public (the kidnapping is seen by other characters or accidentally posted to the journal system) or secret (the character disappears and others notice, but it is not posted to the network). When a character is kidnapped, they are taken away by the bots, programmed to target a specific villager's barcode.

This is the closest representation of how the kidnapping robots appear.

The scientists developed advanced, nigh-indestructable robots to kidnap residents for the sake of experimentation. They are fast, dangerous, and exceptionally strong. Often the victims are drugged in some way to weaken them; some are just physically overpowered or knocked out. They appear and disappear without warning and do not speak; often they're not even seen by other residents of the village unless said villagers are close to the target of the kidnapping at the time. While it is possible for one or two of them to be defeated by the strongest of characters, the scientists usually send an ample amount to take care of business; any CPUs of destroyed units are collected by the other droids before leaving. They generally can't be tampered with, and certainly not hacked into; you'd be extremely lucky to get that close without capture, and they wouldn't allow it for long.

If there is more than one person present around the target, the droids will incapacitate the other individuals if they put up a fight. Otherwise, they generally ignore anything that isn't their target.

What to expect during a kidnapping:

-The facilities are underground, in a protected area outside the barrier. It is impossible to escape.

-Characters are typically held in some sort of cell or cage, separated from any others, though if several characters are kidnapped at the same time it's possible that they might be able to speak with one another across the hallway, if both players are in agreement.

-The experimentation takes place in rooms much like the tunnel laboratories, only clean, well-lit, and manned by multiple Malnosso. Said Malnosso are humanoid in shape, typically, and often hide their wings beneath lab coats for the sake of sanitation - no shedding feathers on the lab floor (unless it's the character, of course). For the same reason they wear headcaps and masks, hiding most of their faces. Their voices are muffled, and they speak only to themselves and each other, very rarely if ever conversing with the subject of experimentation.

-Subjects are often drugged and under the influence of the same power cap that exists in the Luceti tunnels; all powers, abilities, super strength, etc. will be supressed unless for whatever reason the Malnosso want to test it. More often than not they prefer to play it safe.

-Malnosso can do lots of things to characters, sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently, though keep in mind that if you choose a permanent condition and wish to revoke it later, it might not be so easy. Experimentation includes but is not limited to:

Tolerance for pain/torture
Healing ability
Blood tests
Drug testing
Comparison between species/couples/siblings/etc.
Sensory deprivation (the removal of a sense, temporarily or persistently
Power measurement
Mental probing (such as digging through a subject's memories or something similar)
Transformation
Battle recruitment

There's plenty more that could be added to the list, but it would take forever to note it all. If you have any questions or ideas about what might happen but you're not sure if it's allowed, feel free to ask a mod.

When the character is returned to the village, they are dumped at a random location relatively close to the village (or occasionally within it). They can be in whatever condition you prefer (hurt or perfectly fine, conscious, unconscious, with risidual effects or no effects whatsoever, etc.); players have a great deal of freedom in regards to kidnapping.

For the record, you have no obligations whatsoever to put a lot of detail into your character's kidnapping, experimentation, or return, nor are you obligated to have them kidnapped at all. These are just a handful of options that are available for those who want to expand upon their experiences. There is no set length of time a kidnapping has to be, either; it can be as short or as long as you require, provided it doesn't go beyond the 2-month rule for hiatuses (unless special permission is granted).

Missions

Due to the nature of the missions, characters will have access to parts of the world of the Malnosso previously only glimpsed or mentioned in previous dealings. Information is very important to both the Malnosso and the inhabitants of Luceti. Due to the sensitivity of information control, the Malnosso will be careful to keep volunteers from discovering too much about the open world. But they can't hide everything. So what ensues will be the sorts of things your characters can expect to hear, see, and discover while operating on missions.

Note: You do not have to know all of this! The information below is for the purpose of enhancing and elaborating on mission details for people who want to play with the concept. If you are not interested in dealing with the complexities of it, then you are free to handwave the details. If you would like your character to go on a mission and not remember the details, then you may choose to have them not remember any details of the mission. Such a consequence would be the result of a character 'finding out too much' and having their memories erased.

Foremost, when operating in non-combat areas, characters will be accompanied by a 'handler', a friendly and helpful droid that will instruct characters on their tasks, guide them to designated areas, and limit their ability to wander from their posts and interact with civilians. The droids will never use force, at most they will step in front of a character and encourage them to desist from doing any unauthorized activities. If a character is warned by a droid three times to desist in a particular behavior, they will send a signal to have the situation dealt with. In populated areas, this will generally involve local security forces to arrive and detain the subject using nonlethal means. More powerful volunteers will be placed in a Shift that will disable powers so they can be captured.

Often the Malnosso will send Luceti subjects on missions where they will be cooperating with inhabitants from other domes similar to Luceti. Consequently, these people are under similar conditions to the Lucetians and will talk openly with their fellow volunteers. Notably what will come to light is that these domes are smaller than Luceti, exist at various levels of technology (many being similar to how Luceti was pre-electricity), but none will be quite well off as Luceti. Although their populations will be diverse, these people will be less 'impressive' subjects and even their fighters will seem average compared to what can be found in Luceti. In relation to their own history, the domes will vary in how long they have existed, some having been around for ten years and some being only months old. Some will have already participated in drafts and experiments, but most will speak of having experienced failure on drafts and that experiments are generally infrequent. On a whole, subjects from non-Luceti enclosures will be markedly less impressive than the current Luceti population. However they will be suited for whatever task they might be encountered on. A character going on a combat mission might be accompanied by a space marine, a police officer, or wizard.

As for what makes up the other enclosures, these will be a fair mix of characters from other worlds. For simplicity's sake, characters will never encounter people from worlds not currently represented in Luceti by an existing character. However, they will never meet characters that show up on screen in a canon. These will be be semi-average, ordinary people from various worlds that nobody in Luceti will personally know. If your character happens to be world famous, they might recognize your character, but the Malnosso will rarely pair up Luceti volunteers with other inhabitants from their own world. So for example, if LInk was to go on a mission, he might notice one of his allies on an assignment happens to be using alchemy and if prompted, the NPC might have heard of the 'Fullmetal Alchemist' named Edward Elric, despite never meeting him in person.

Among other things, other enclosure inhabitants will not be as knowledgeable about the state of the world. Although they will recognize mention of the eccentric 'blue man' (Biliruben), they won't know him by Bil or Catherine. You may consequently expect to hear them using a large variety of feminine names, depending on the enclosure they are from. They will have no idea what had happened to him recently and there will be mixed feelings about the different Malnosso currently in contact with their enclosures. They will know nothing of "The Great One" or death penalty removals, nor have very much information on the history of the Malnosso. In extreme and rare cases, some inhabitants may mention their enclosures being raided by Third Party soldiers, with many of the inhabitants being taken and never returned, sometimes frequently. It will be up to the discretion of the individual characters on how much they feel like sharing with their fellow captives.

Subjects may also sometimes come across civilians, either in passing or due to being assigned to rescue them. They will be more talkative than members of the Malnosso organization, but they will be wary about sharing information. In general, many will be in the dark about the extent of the Luceti project or current affairs within the organization. Some may express pity for those being held in enclosures, while others will express jealousy or outright hatred for being 'so well protected'. Luceti subjects in general will be treated with a small amount of admiration due to their reputation in regards to victories over the Third Party and advances made in Shifting due to them. Like above, civilians may come from all manners of different worlds, but all of them will have either been born on this world or have existed on the world for multiple life cycles. (Life cycles meaning that they have died of old age and been restored to the age they first arrived to the world at).

When on combat-oriented missions, characters will have a member of the Security Forces leading their team. These will be experienced soldiers that will reveal little about themselves or the Malnosso if pressed for information. As above, they too fall under the same criteria in regards to coming from various different worlds. Thus you may encounter a Security Officer with Hylian pointed ears, or Ishvalan white hair with red eyes. Despite this, they will be strict and stick only to the mission, not fraternizing or volunteering information, even under torture. They will be prepared for other methods of information gathering (such as telepathy) depending on who is sent with them and have methods of resisting it. In extreme situations of a character attempting to take hostages or escape, the Malnosso may take extreme measures, including dangerous long range Shifts that might kill the entire group. Consequently, Luceti subjects may find it easier to simply participate as they agreed to do.

One unique mission for Luceti subjects is Research. As exciting as this might sound, the Malnosso will generally be requesting for characters to index books, scrolls, computer files, and so on collected from other worlds. These may include a vast array of topics ranging from the history of the Earth Kingdom during Avatar Kyoshi's time to potion-making books normally found in Hogwarts or a comprehensive bestiary of creatures found near Nibelheim. In general these will be subjects that will likely not prove to be terribly useful once back in Luceti. We expect people to exercise common courtesy in what kinds of information their characters are tasked to research. For instance, if you would like your character to go and research the Oak family history, it's expected that you would go and talk to the players or someone playing someone in the Oak family line in order to make sure they are okay with that information being discovered (and what kind of information they might access).

On Recon missions, characters will be sent to spy on the Third Party (and later, other entities). In regards to the Third Party, volunteers will have a chance to see them in peaceful situations. Although they can be understood, these are a people who do not speak or write without need and when they do, their meanings are hidden beneath metaphors and riddles specific to their culture and beliefs. Though it will be important to remember or record these phrases, it will be difficult or impossible to figure out their meaning without context, thus characters will be unlikely to ever obtain information meaningful to the people of Luceti, though the Malnosso will have experts capable of capitalizing on the information. Should the Third Party discover they are being spied on, they will attack ruthlessly. Volunteers will be provided with means to cause self-termination if they are caught, thus preventing volunteers from being sacrificed.

Death Penalties and Removals

There have been numerous questions as to what is an appropriate choice for character deaths and the penalties that result from said demises. To make things simpler and hopefully help players out, here's a list of guidelines for it:

1) Be sure to choose a Death Penalty and clear it with a mod before your character is killed! Your penalty has to be approved, and we like to know what's going on when there's a character death.

2) Be careful to pick a Death Penalty you can live with for a long time! The minimum before you can have the penalty removed is four months, so make sure you pick something that isn't too much of a hassle, like, for example, perpetually broken kneecaps or something.

3) We've had a variety of death penalties in the past, and while we encourage players to be creative and choose one to suit their character or their own needs, here is a list of some of the death penalties we've had in the past in case you need help with choosing one.

Loss of certain abilities/powers
Memory loss (Short term, selective)
Full or partial loss of senses (sight, hearing, voice, taste, touch)
Color blindness
Loss of sense of temperature
Loss of feeling in limbs
Loss of a transformed state (eg. werewolf unable to change into wolf form)
Inability to digest solids

This is by no means a complete list, nor are the penalties limited to this.

The process for removing a Death Penalty can be somewhat long at times, but we try to take care of them as quickly as possible when it's important. Here is how it's done, step by step:

1) Post here and supply the necessary information. Make sure you qualify for the process first.

2) The character must contact the NPC John; they can do this by tagging this entry here on malnosso or calling him out directly on the journal system. You can also have this process handwaved, so long as you contact the mod playing John (Akai). A date for their special kidnapping will be arranged oocly with a mod, and you're free to have your character kidnapped. Please contact Akai (guynophobic on AIM, or use the other contact info on Luceti's profile page) for all Death Penalty Removal requests or use John's Appointments post to arrange a date for the character to be fixed up. A removal can't be arranged unless it's scheduled, for the sake of keeping track of things.

3) The character should be returned from their kidnapping after about 3-4 days, though it's alright for them to stay longer if you're going to be on hiatus or something. Side effects may appear for a short while (more or less a week, but there is no set amount), but after they wear off the character is right as rain!

4) If for some reason your character has two or more Death Penalties, only one can be removed at a time; ICly it's a delicate process. You can, however, pick which one will be removed, provided the character has had each for four months or more. Once the first penalty has been removed, you can start the process all over again whenever you like, though you may have to wait a while before John's willing to fix the next penalty.

Elemental Spirits/Filial Magic

Luceti has a number of elemental spirits with whom the residents can meet and learn magic from. They are invisible to the eye and are felt, rather than properly met. Each spirit has a different personality and power, and characters must meet certain requirements in order to gain their power. Currently the spirits residing in Luceti are:

Nala - Healing Alignment: good.
Works as the standard RPG healing magic usually goes, sans any revival spells; wounds, broken bones and most poisons can be addressed. The magic can affect any character- the one casting it, or others around them. The spirit to communicate with is called Nala. She’s generally kind, warm and upbeat, but as all the other spirits, has no physical form. She is easy to learn from, and eager to share her knowledge with the villagers. She can be heard pretty much anywhere. It only takes about two weeks to get a decent grip on healing magic, shorter if you have a teacher who has already mastered it. Despite her "good" alignment, Nala's magic isn't limited to only inherently "good" characters; she cannot sense or feel evil, so a cruel or evil character could learn magic from her by faking "good" characteristics while they interact with her. If she witnessed their true nature, the bond would be broken and they would have to earn back her trust, but she's also very forgiving. Basically it takes more work and some caution, but it's possible.

Some players have expressed concerns about how powerful the healing spells are. It depends on several things- the wishes of both players, the abilities of the healer, and the severity of whatever is being healed. If a strong healer tries to heal the injury of a character whose player wants them to stay wounded for a while, the healer's ability to heal it will be dampened. Basically, the wounded character has control over how much the healing magic will affect their character. Usually the Filial healing magic doesn't fix bloodloss, though, so keep that in mind.

Eferin - Fire Alignment: neutral.: Create light and heat; nothing as drastic as summoning a fireball the size of a tank, but it can be disastrous if used improperly. The spirit of fire is Eferin (“eh-feh-rin”). He’s impulsive and very picky; usually your character will not be able to learn from him unless he or she already has an affinity to fire. He is heard most clearly in the forest, and takes at least a month to grasp the basics.

Sona - Water Alignment: neutral.: Pulls the water from the air, manipulates shape and temperature/density. Again -like fire- nothing like pulling forth a tidal wave, but definitely enough to soak someone if your character is feeling mischievous. The spirit of water is Sona(“soh-nah”). She’s cool and collected, and can be a little snobby. She’s not nearly as picky as Eferin, but again if your character has an affinity to water, they will pick up much more quickly. Obviously heard best when near or in bodies of water. It takes two to three weeks to control water magic.

Kipinn - Wind Alignment: neutral.: Control breezes up to the occasional gust; yet again, no tornados or typhoons, just a rush of air. Manipulates the air around the user, but doesn’t create it. Can also affect sound, if the user has enough control over the air to alter the vibrations; mute sounds, throw them farther away. Create sounds with enough practice, but it’s exceedingly difficult. The magic isn't enough to make a character fly, but it can boost their speed a little, with practice. The spirit of wind calls himself Kipinn (“key-pin”). He’s playful and quick to take to people, and very friendly. His “voice” is the loudest near or on the mountains. It only takes around a week to master the art of wind.

Tsinku - Electricity Alignment: neutral: Control the combined energies of heat and light kinetically; direct lightning, harness it from the natural elements. Higher level users can create electricity, but it is very difficult, and very draining on the user as it utilizes one’s own energy. The spirit of electricity is known as Tsinku (“sin-koo”) and is brash, headstrong but extremely intelligent and quick to respect people that catch his attention. He is most readily heard in wide, open areas with plenty of room to move about freely. It takes around three or four weeks to form a decent enough relationship with him to learn mid-level electrical magic.

Faeren - Earth Alignment: neutral: Connect with the plant life and feel the ebb and flow of life within the land. Can move/raise mounds of earth and rocks from the ground, but not to hover in the air or anything like that. Can manipulate the growth of plants to some degree; heal plant life (such as crops or flowers) but cannot accelerate the growth process. The spirit of earth calls herself Faeren (“fair-en”) and is very, very soft and timid, when first spoken to. However, her voice is the most easily heard, constantly available as long as your character is outside and standing on the ground. It doesn’t take long to get to the “awareness and rock-raising” part of the powers, but being able to cultivate plants and heal them from illness takes at least three or four weeks of practice.

Hyt - Light Alignment: neutral: Manipulate light to either recede or grow. The art of controlling light is a very complicated one; the spirit is fairly quiet, and difficult to hear even when in direct sunlight. The powers can increase shade or manipulate available sunlight to be a little brighter. There is not enough power to say, blind an opponent permanently with a flash of light, but there is enough to stun. Also, for more skilled users of light, illusions or "drawings" can be created by bending and refracting the light around an object so that it appears altered to the viewer. The spirit of light is referred to as Hyt (“height”), and can barely be heard as even a whisper, even when in direct sunlight. It takes at least a month to even communicate enough to earn Hyt’s trust, and it (for it is genderless) will be reluctant to teach anyone.

General Spirit Information

'Contacting' the spirits doesn't mean actual, verbal communication with them; plain and simple, the spirits don't talk at all. Communication is more of a vague experience involving feelings, emotions, and mental images if applicable. Characters can speak with the spirits, but the responses they might get would vary in emotion and the level of willlingness to be helpful. For example, Nala might send the character feelings of approval, eagerness, and kindness. Eferin might be more brash and easily irritated, his emotions apt to flaring out and changing on a whim. Additionally, the spirit's overall 'feeling' can also be associated with their element; Kipinn might make you feel like the wind is blowing when it's not, Hyt might make you squint now and then, etc.

Since the spirits don't talk, they obviously can't offer up any information about the nature of Luceti, or even how to get in their good graces; much of the learning curve is based on trial-and-error and the info provided by those in the village who have mastered the magic already.

If a character doesn't contact a particular spirit now and then, it's possible that their connection - and as such, their proficiency with that element - could wane, perhaps even sever. This is purely optional (the spirits are either fickle or quick to forgive), but if this were to happen, a simple reacquaintence is all it would take to reconnect. It wouldn't take nearly as long to relearn everything as the first time did, unless of course the spirit is unhappy about your character losing touch. This is more likely to happen to characters from canons that lack magic, but it's not restricted or limited to just them, obviously.

As said above, severed connections are an optional thing for people looking for something to do, and can be ignored.

How The Magic Works

Generally we give people the freedom to determine how powerful the spells are, and at which level they're at between the day they start and the day they master it. Due to the power cap, naturally none of them are excessive; most of the limitations and strengths are listed in the spirit-specific details.

Provided that the elements don't conflict, characters who have mastered two (or more) elements can combine them into a single use, such as a water attack laced with a lightning element. Opposing elements can't be used in tandem: one couldn't use a fire ability with a water one, for example.

Filial magic is not a matter of constant communication with the spirits, or summoning the spirits to do the work through the character. Once a character contacts a spirit and begins learning, the spirit teaches the character how to draw the magic out of themselves. It's sort of like learning a special technique from a martial arts master- the master has to agree to teach you, but he doesn't have to be around every time you use it once you know it.

Shifting

'Shifting' is defined as any physical, mathematical, mental or subcultural change in one's surroundings. Essentially it's the official term (used by NPCs) for both the experimentation going on within the village, and the abilities of the Third Party NPCs, the enemies of the Malnosso, and what the barrier is protecting your characters from.

There are three types of shifts; Natural, Progressive, and Synthesized/Artificial. Natural Shifts occur outside the barrier, and are more or less unknown at the moment. Progressive Shifts are an ability of the Third Party, a natural ability of the full-winged Filial. It is extremely powerful and very dangerous in a fight, as it can alter the effects of most character actions if not properly neutralized with Artificial Shifting technology; this is what makes the Third Party so dangerous, since the neutralizing technology has only recently been created for widespread use. Artificial Shifts equate to the events and strange occurrences that take place within the barrier, and can vary in effect. It is less powerful and, to balance, less dangerous for both the world and those involved.

Tunnels

Original post here. The tunnel system once ran beneath the entirety of Luceti's main area, namely, the west edge of the barrier to the mountains. Currently the tunnels from the collapsed entrance (the center of the town plaza) to the warehouse at the western end are blocked by John's barrier, and it is there that he conducts his own experiments and removes the Death Penalties. There is no way to access his tunnels.

The eastern tunnels, however, are still accessible, providing a two-day walk beneath the mountains to the beach. Close to the village entrance, there is a side room chosen to contain the laptops that allow for journal entries locked from the Malnosso completely.

Tunnel Laptops

Original post here and here. John and Jacob arranged for two laptops (found by the temple ruins) to be offered to the villagers as a method of communicating with their fellows using the journals, but without the Malnosso seeing it. These laptops are used to create secret, village-wide announcements and information entries in the lucetilocked community; these entries cannot be viewed or hacked by any of the Malnosso. They can be viewed by John since he set up the network, however.

NPCs

Luceti has a set of NPCs designed to keep the plot going, to provide the world's history, and to (on occasion) aid in character plots.

John: The Scientist. A scientist once affiliated with the Malnosso, he has now defected and works primarily alone. He is responsible for controlling the barrier and curing the Death Penalties, along with other little jobs here and there. He takes requests on occasion, but only at his own whim. John lives in the western tunnels, protected by a private barrier. He shares a history with both Jacob and ANI's creator, though the details of it are unknown. An extremely eccentric and rather cold-blooded character, he is a researcher through and through.

Jacob: The Traitor. A one-time captive like the rest of Luceti, Jacob landed himself a job with the Malnosso through a very strange series of events that he has yet to reveal. Now he acts sort of as John's go-for, occasionally appearing in the village and manning the bazaar. He's sarcastic and can be sort of a jerk, but is much more reasonable than John. Basically, if someone treats him with respect first, he'll return the gesture. While he can be paranoid and a bitter individual, Jacob also feels a lot of empathy and pity for the captives. Jacob was sacrificed by the unknown intruders during the August 2009 event. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

ANI: The Observer. ANI is the Automated Neutral Intelligence system created by a nameless individual who associates herself with neither the captives nor the Organization. While ANI has no preferences whatsoever, she usually provides the captives with whatever information her creator deems necessary for them to know. She's a step below an AI in that she really doesn't have any thoughts or feelings of her own, and usually won't respond unless the person with whom she's having a conversation asks a question. Her creator - called Rem by most people - wavers between a sympathetic person and a mere observor.

Bil: The Eccentric. Little blue old man. Really scatterbrained and eccentric. From Romania. John fanboy. Probably knows something about Shifting, but is so stuck on carrying the four that he can't hardly explain himself. Math is not his forte.

Tyr: Deceased. Previous proprietor of the weapons shop. He seems to be held in great esteem by Jacob and the Malnosso, and was described as a "hero-type". Died during John's experimentation.

Carol: Previous headmistress of the local school. She was taken by John for experimentation and has not been heard of since. Her status is currently unknown.

The Third Party: Including "the General", the Third Party is a group of humanoid warriors with huge angelic wings that grant them the gift of flight. They have incredible powers that, without extensive limitations brought about by the barrier, can easily wipe out the village, or so it's said. Even with limitations, they have a natural ability to Shift, which is easier and much more powerful than the artificial Shifting that takes place within Luceti; unfortunately it is also more damaging.

Filial of the Past

Originally the "Filial" in the village were quite different; they functioned like normal residents though their movements were unrecorded, and one in particular (Carol, the schoolteacher) spoke directly to the characters via the journals. As Luceti changed from a small, simple roleplay to a larger, more plot-driven RP, of course the purpose of the Filial themselves had to change and expand. Since they were spoken of so rarely and Carol herself had a small, typically-unused background role, they were retconned and Carol (possibly permanently) disposed of. Currently, the "Filial" are:

-essentially pre-programmed to fulfill simple roles within the village

- devoid of brain function beyond the minimum required to fulfill those roles and survive daily life

- vacant, lifeless, like the living dead for the most part (except they do not eat brains :|)

At the moment, John has confiscated Carol and the previous proprietors of the grocery shop and item bazaar. There are only a handful of Filial left in the village, and they keep to themselves.

The Third Party

The Third Party is a dangerous organization of barbaric warriors that are distinct and seem to predate the Malnosso. Not much is known about them, other than that they are led in battle by The General.

They are human in appearance, with variations in size, hair color, eye color, skin tone, age and so on. They are comprised of both men and women and there is no sense of segregation in their ranks due to appearance, only in ability. Unlike the residents of Luceti, they possess larger wingspans capable of flight. Their armor varies from simple leather armor to heavy chainmail, sometimes protecting their wings, which while not as sensitive as Lucetian wings, are just as vulnerable and removing them will result in death.

Foot Soldiers

All Third Party soldiers are capable of using the same Filial Magic as in Luceti, though their magic is far more potent. They also possess some telekinetic ability to let them manipulate objects around them, but it has a limited range and can only be done every few minutes and is easy to avoid. Their weapons tend to be crude, oudated weaponry that is sometimes dull and rusted from use. But in spite of that, they are fierce killers and they don't need elegant or well cared weaponry to kill. A normal soldier is stronger than your average humanand and very skilled, but their style of battle is simplistic. Most Lucetian combatants should be able to take one on and be victorious. They are only likely to take on a skilled warrior by overwhelming numbers. For those who play video games, think of them as your Pre-Boss enemies. Tough, but manageable.

Elites

Some of these Third Party will count among the Elite and be far more powerful than your average fighters. They are comparable to the General and the original Intruders. These guys are like your mid-bosses, guys tough enough to give even some of the superpowered characters trouble. They possess superior Shifting abilities to manipulate the environment around them (the effect being like Filial Magic, but many times more potent) and are much more durable, even wearing light armor over their wings. They often will use Shifted, 'invisible' weaponry, though this often varies due to their own personal preference. Ultimately each Elite varies from another, so some may be more powerful than others. They will count among the hundreds and will usually be found leading regular soldiers, although squads of Elites working together may also occur. (In other words, group them however you like).

Shifters

Ever since the battle in the farmlands, there have been Shifters present. These are identical to regular Soldiers, but they possess extremely powerful natural Shifting abilities. Their favored tactic is being surrounded by soldiers, while projecting a Powers Dampening Shift. This will disable ALL superhuman abilities. If a normal human isn't capable of doing it, then neither will your character. This works identical to the tunnel system below the village. They may also use Shifts that can cause technology to cease functioning. This will work on anything electronic or anything more complex than your most basic mechanical devices. For instance, a standard handgun will still work because of the simple mechanics involved, but a weapon more complex than that will stall.

Of course, if your character is not your standard humanoid (for instance someone like Moro or a robot), the power dampening will work a little differently. Moro will still be as powerful as two ton giant wolf would still be, likewise a robot would have all the normal advantages that being a robot has (within reason).

The Shifters are often the least common enemy on the battlefield. Encountering them is completely optional, as they exist solely for an extra challenge for people to play around with. They are capable of defending themselves as well as regular soldiers and will never, ever be found alone. They can only be identified by the fact that their eyes will be glowing while projecting Shifts.

Shift Hunters

Shift Hunters are beasts native to this world (or at least predate any records) and are trained used by the Malnosso, the Third Party, or just roam the forests as wild beasts. Although they live in packs and often hunt together, others are solitary creatures. They have all the normal senses (hearing and smell being quite acute), but they are noted for their incredibly unique ability to detect Shifts through unknown means. This includes Filial Magic, Summoning (for those who have received that ability from an NPC), Shift Afflictions, Kidnapping effects, and so on. Although wild Shift Hunters will only target solitary, weak targets, those that are trained and accompanied by soldiers will attack any enemies using Shifts that they detect. They are vicious, brutal killers that don't seem to register pain, have razor sharp teeth, and are immune to energy based attacks, whether the energy is magical, natural or technological in origin. Because they have no wings, the only way to permanently kill one is to remove its head, otherwise its rapid healing will have it back on its feet in less than an hour, regardless of how much damage it has taken.

Drafts

Every so often, the Malnosso will call up a draft, typically starting with some general information about the battlefield, enemy deployment, and a map of the battlefield. These battlefields are surrounded by a barrier that prevents Lucetians from escaping. This protection does not prevent the Third Party from receiving reinforcements, as it only keeps stuff in, not out. Details below are for general Drafts and are subject to change depending on plot reasons or due to setting. If such changes occur, the mod posts for drafts will make note of it. If a person is on the draft list, they will be drafted, despite their objections. If they do not go willingly, they will be dragged there by a Malnosso droid, the same type used for kidnappings. Additional droids may arrive for those who resist.

Most drafts will be accompanied by an NPC posting details. On these posts, characters can requests weapons and vehicles they are otherwise unable to obtain inside the enclosure. This can include military-grade weapons, jets, giant robots, or whatever is standard for their canon. This can usually be assumed. Additional ammunition or replacement weapons can be requested during the draft as well, using the assistance button in their quarters.

Departure / Quarters

On the morning of the drafts, at 9AM, characters will be directed to head to the tunnels. Down in the tunnel system, there are red arrows on the walls and floor that will guide characters to the nearest room on their left, after turning westward. (Beyond this room is John's territory, which is still protected by a barrier. It's just been moved back about 20 feet or so.) In that room there is a silver platform; some characters may find it familiar. It's labeled with a black H.47 on the top. There's only room enough for one person. Once a character steps on that disc, the barcode on the back of their neck will grow warm and they'll find themselves suddenly in a white room with a door, and no disc (it's not like Star Trek where things shimmer and stuff, they just are suddenly in a different place).

-If more than one character stands on it, so long as they're both drafted then they will both be transported. If one isn't or both aren't, nothing will happen.

-If your character is being dragged a la droid, the droid will stand with your character on the platform. However, once your character arrives in the white room, they'll be alone.

Past the door is a white hallway. Each of the doors has a character's name on it, in alphabetical order by either given name or last name (depending on whether or not a character has a last name). First a door on the right, then the left, switching back and forth until the last character's door. After that the hallway dead-ends. There are no windows, and doors that do not belong to your character are locked.

Each room is customized to the character. When they enter, they'll see just a blank hotel room and whatever effects they requested. If they asked for a type of vehicle that won't fit into the room, there is an additional door on the far wall that leads to a storage area or a hangar. On the wall beside the entrance is a buzzer and an instruction plate that reads, "press for assistance." If your character asks questions about who this is, why they're here, etc, they won't get an answer. But if they press and ask for something in their room -"I want an HD TV, I want a hot tub, I want..." etc, when they turn around it will be there. Items in their rooms cannot be removed from their rooms or taken back to Luceti with them when the fighting is done.

Rations for time spent on the battlefield will be provided, and can be found with the supplies/weapons. Meals, snacks, drinks, etc. can be requested via the assistance button while they're staying in the rooms.

They can visit other rooms so long as the owner invites them in.

Characters can use their journals to contact people in the village enclosure.

On the first day, characters have from 9AM to 1PM to prep for battle, at which point they will be sent out to battle. Their schedule for battle wll fluctuate after that and when they are and aren't at the dorms is at player discretion.

If your character is mortally wounded, collapses in battle or has been out longer than eighteen hours, they'll immediately be transported to their room. If they need medical attention, a pair of droids will come in and patch them up and leave them to rest. If it's minor enough that they can go back out and fight, as soon as they're up to it they'll be sent back out; likewise, if they get a healer with them and can be healed up, they'll be sent back out once they rest. While out on the field, they will remain there until they return to a deployment point (if they have been out for at least eight hours), have been on the field for over eighteen hours, or have been injured and rendered immobile or unconscious for a significant amount of time.

First and foremost, MOST -IF NOT ALL- OF THE FIGHTING WILL BE ASSUMED; in other words, without mods playing the NPCs. If you absolutely must -MUST- play out something of great importance, please let a mod know and they may provide an NPC, we can set up a log, something. But please, unless you need it for a specific purpose, don't ask for NPC battles. It will be largely uneventful and full of your character kicking ass and taking names and knocking down buildings and enemies, etc etc. This is to give you guys some freedom as well as keep us from a) getting overloaded and/or b) holding you back.

After all enemies have been defeated, characters will be returned at midnight of the last day (no matter how much time they have to spare) and will wake up in their own beds (or just an empty bed in an empty community house room if they have no bed).

Shift Afflictions

In past drafts, characters were not allowed to participate due to 'Shift Incompatibilities', the most extreme of which can kill a character. Due to the Security Forces taking over drafts, characters may be sent out with a 'handicap' due to these incompatibilities, but the Malnosso will still only choose those that will suffer 'minimal' side effects. These can include:

1) Flu like symptoms
2) Power/ability loss
3) Temporary blindness
4) Unexpected injuries
5) Narcolepsy
6) Skin turning an unusual color and being sensitive to sunlight
7) Dizziness and headaches
8) Effects of inebriation
9) Extreme nausea

And so on. These are only examples, but do note that these incompatibilities aren't the same as mallynapping effects, so an incompatibility won't, for instance, cause your character to age up or down, genderbend, turn into an animal, or so on.

PET REGISTRATION

Only one pet per character. The exception is made for Pokemon, in which case trainers may have three.
Once your character is dropped, their assigned pet will follow them. If a specific pet is applied for by another mun, you will lose god mod rights over that pet.
These pets cannot be ones that regularly speak and are understood by their owners.
Pets will behave exactly like regular Luceti animals do in regards to the journal system, as such, they cannot speak over the journal system.
Animals cannot be overly large. Unfortunately this means not bringing your pet brontosaurus to the game.
Pets do not have wings. This also means pets will NOT be revived if they die. So do not kill them. That wouldn't be cool at all.
Although their speech can be translated like other animals in Luceti in person, it will only be simplistic speech that would be expected from a simple animal.
Pets can still be applied for even if brought into the game. If a pet, such as Momo from Avatar, is accepted into the game, the NPC Momo would be 'sent home' and return days later, only with a pair of wings and with no memory of their time in Luceti.
Please do not create additional journals for the purpose of pets. They are meant to stay in the background and should rarely be used without their owner (or a stand-in owner) around. This means you should NOT RP as your pet or make posts as your pets. This means that if Character Bob has Jill's dog Sparky while Jill is nowhere around, Bob would narrate the actions for Sparky, not Jill (or Jill's journal).
Pets are not affected by experiments unless its environmental (such as the earthquake).

Note: This page and the information above apply only to canon pets or pets received from the Malnosso either as a gift or reward! Animals adopted within Luceti are not subject to the 'one pet limitation' and do not need to be registered on this page!

Luceti: The Nitpicker's Guide
(PART 1)

Some people have requested an additional guide to things that only certain people/characters would care about. Since including this information would make the FAQ obscenely tl;dr, additional details will be kept here and added onto periodically.

Disclaimer: These are not rules. These are guidelines for players who want world-specific details. PLEASE keep that in mind, and don't panic if you see something current (or recall something in the past) that doesn't coincide with this list. It's meant to be flexible and offer players more material to work with, NOT to restrict anyone. These are the official standards of the game, but we won't be griping at anyone who's done things differently in the past, since that would be silly.

Due to changes in how the roleplay works there may be some inconsistencies, but we're trying our best to ensure that everything makes sense. It will be updated periodically to keep everyone up to speed as much as possible on the plot. Keep watching it!

Details about Wings

The residents' wings are much like angel's wings, but substantially smaller. They're roughly 3/4 arm's length, emerging between the shoulders, from about 1/4 of the way down the back to the middle.

They fold at the center and can lie flat against the back, and can even be concealed under loose clothing. After they are attached, the wings cause pain up to around 24 hours as the body adjusts to them, and afterwards are painless as long as they're undamaged. The residents should have decent control over them after that. They are designed with the power to allow for slight hovering, not flight.

Much like birds, the feathers have varying levels of softness depending on the age of the resident. Children have softer, downy feathers, more fluffy and numerous, but shorter. Around puberty (roughly age 11-15) these feathers are exchanged for longer, stronger, and more silk-like feathers. Adults start out with such feathers, and as they physically age (past 50 or 60), the quality of color and beauty decreases over time. Immortals, or characters who don't age, will keep the feather quality they started out with. Wings grow in proportion to the growth of the body.

The wings are a delicate part of a character's health in Luceti, and as such they do not molt or otherwise lose feathers unless they are pulled. Removing them entirely without killing the character is currently impossible. The removal of one wing causes great pain and an extensive illness until it can grow back; this usually takes five days to a week. Removing the feathers without touching the structure will sicken and/or weaken the character but will not kill them. The feathers grow back in less than a week. If both wings are removed, death is painful but immediate.

Barcodes

Essentially Malnosso GPS. They allow the scientists/robots/whatnot to find people for kidnappings and keep the journals linked to the characters. As of now they cannot be removed or altered. Each barcode is programmed with a number that is unique to every character. (Think the LJ account number.)

Languages

In Luceti, all characters are built with their own universal translator; namely, the wings. Speech, text, anything that involves language of any kind is automatically filtered through the changed physiology of the characters and translated into words. As for whether the character is naturally speaking/writing Luceti's native language or their own and simply perceives everything else as the same... use your imagination.

Sometimes bits and pieces of languages will filter through, particular if it's a well-known phrase the character uses, such as coup d'etat is sometimes used in English society. Just words and little phrases though, never full sentences. IC examples would be if Alphonse prefers to call Edward "niisan" instead of "brother", or someone with an accent might speak oddly to others.

Journal System

The journal is a mixture of complex magic and technology; it was designed as a method of secret communication for the Malnosso when the organization was still small, and eventually became the primary method of observing the effects of the experiments. A group of scientists linked them to computers, so all entries, written or voiced, are tracked by the Malnosso. Neither the village nor the surrounding area is actually observed, but this is not ICly known. There are a set amount of pages, physically, but as a character flips through it, the pages shift so that characters can backtrack to entries made before they arrived. This shift is not noticable in any way besides the fact that there are inexplicably more pages.

As a special note, since there have been numerous mix-ups: strike-out text is only available on ooc/action notations and written entries/comments, not voice posts or speech in action posts. The same rule applies to "keysmashes", though some people likely have audible equivelants.

The first page of the journal is always the entry page.The second page, and every page after it,
are the entries of the other residents.

Journal Functions

Written: Simply write what you want to have posted; drawings can also be shown on the pages. Content will appear on the network and be visible to other characters after one minute has passed without any new content to the entry being added. Comments are made in the same way.

Voice: There is a [VOICE] "button" at the top of each page; you must touch it to initiate the voice function. It can be turned off at any time. Other characters can either hear it via real-time or, at a later date/time, press on the "entry" or the "comment" with the pen (much like actual voice posts on LJ) and the entry will play.

Accidental Voice: Records and plays in real-time. Doesn't usually have a playback function. This happens sporadically, ie. whenever the player feels like revealing something the character wouldn't normally share.

Camera: Takes snapshots periodically, which serve as the character icons; each page is slotted so that the camera can view the journal user. The camera can be covered or obscured.

Call Function: At the bottom of the main entry page there is a box that contains a small image and the barcode of each resident of Luceti. Characters need only tap the image to call for the selected character's attention; said character's journal will ring periodically until it has been opened, where (in their own call box) the one that summoned them will be shown.

Links: When a character is given a "link" (ie. "Go [here] for the Guide") they are directed to the next page over, which will shift to reveal whatever entry they have been linked to.

Regarding 'Hacking'

Whenever characters have an entry or a part of an entry that they wish to lock from the rest of Luceti, they need only draw a box around what they want hidden and write "Unhackable/Locked to [Character Name]" and then either some sort of passcode, or a puzzle. The level of hackability depends on the complexity of the puzzle or passcode, which in turn depends on how much effort the character puts into making it. This is why certain entries are more hackable than others, and some are impossible to hack. Hacking takes a lot of practice and intelligence, so don't expect every character to get it immediately.

In order to hack an entry, characters must first suspect that it is locked; they must write "Hack" in the comment to reveal a passcode box or puzzle. If they are successful, the entry will be revealed; if not nothing will happen. They can then lock their own comments in the same way. Hacking must be done within a certain amount of time; the amount of time is inversely proportionate to the complexity of the lock. If it is a very complex lock, characters have less time to hack it than, say, something that is only 10% hackable.

Disclaimer: For the record, this was the official manner of hacking that Eggy and I agreed upon during our brainstorming session, but it is not by any means the only way of hacking or locking entries. Other characters have invented a number of different ways of doing it, so there really is no right or wrong way. Be as creative as you like!

Location Details

A lot of details are available on the Map/Housing post, so check that out first. The expanded info is separated into sections for your convenience.

Distances and Travel Time

From the furthest corners of the map, Luceti is 190 miles from west to east, and 85 miles north to south. Since the barrier is oval-shaped, the distance from one end to another often varies. Travel time can also vary, so here is a scaled map of the area:

If you'd rather not work it out yourself, here's the time it takes to get around the area, on average. (Average being 3 miles per hour for 8 hours a day.)

From the plaza to the northern edge of the barrier: 2 days or 50 miles
From the plaza to the western edge: 2 days or 50 miles
From the plaza to the southern edge: 1 day or 30 miles
From the plaza to the red tunnel exit: 2 days or 60 miles
From the edge of the mountain to the beach: 5 days or 60 miles (6 miles high + 50 miles wide = approx. 60 miles; travel time is lengthy due to the precarious climb, as the mountain is extremely difficult to scale without proper equipment)
From the tunnel exit/mountain across the ocean to the eastern edge: 65 miles (no attempt to cross it has been made yet)

The village itself is only about 1 square mile overall; one can traverse the entire village in a few hours, and it only takes a few hours to reach the southern lake.

For those who can fly, they'll find that they can only reach a height of about 10 miles before they hit the top of the barrier. If you're inclined to try and dig under it, it runs about 30-40 feet deep, but... the Malnosso have ways of preventing that, so expect some interference there. It's been tried before.

Village

The village is a quiet little collection of sturdy but old-school farmhouses and brick apartment buildings. There are also a number of shops surrounding a plaza, run by either players or unnamed/unplayed NPCs. The village has a homey look to it, meant to be a close community rather than a vast city. It sort of resembles this:

There's a few buildings built by citizens scattered here and there, as well as shops within established buildings. Most of these should be labeled on the Map/Housing post, so if you happen to build something or decide you want to run a shop, be sure to let a mod know.

The houses have electricity, so they have lights, electric stoves, and an upgraded icebox. There is a fireplace to keep the houses warm when necessary, indoor plumbing, and a water heater. They all come fully furnished and remain that way whether they're occupied or not, but if characters want to switch out or get new furniture, they can find some at the item bazaar.

Self-Repairing

The houses, buildings and other elements of the environment are generally programmed to self-repair when extensive damage is incurred. If the characters take it upon themselves to repair damage, of course the "system" might not get around to it. Basically if a wall is torn down, it'll remain as such for a couple days until -quite suddenly- the wall will exist again. More extensive damage -like a house burning down- would take a little more time in that sections of the house will appear over the course of a few days or so until the building is once again as it was before destruction.

Any structures built by the residents of Luceti, however, are not repaired when damaged. The barracks are a good example of this; should anything happen to that building, it wouldn't be repaired by the system.

Forests

...THERE ARE TREES. The species sort of vary with no particular organization; there's evergreens mixed with deciduous, tiny saplings mixed with ancient giants. They are exceptionally fast-growing, with a tendency to sprout a few inches or feet in the dark or when no one is watching, though they don't grow to excessive sizes. It's quite remarkable, really - and lucky, considering how often Luceti is damaged by one disaster or another.

The forest is also populated by a variety of creatures; birds, mammals, insects, whatever's normal in a number of regions. Bears, foxes, wild boars, mosquitoes, raccoons, robins, fish... lots of critters to pick from. They're wild, but on the same level as animals that live around, say, a campsite; they usually stick to the woods, but see humans so often they're normally unimpressed and often bold, if not outright friendly and helpful. Don't mistake them for pets, though. That takes much more work.

Speaking of pets, characters can occasionally find strays around the village, somewhat tamed animals such as cats or dogs, and manage to convince them to follow them home. They're easier to tame than forest wildlife.

Mountain

The mountains on the eastern side of the village are tall, jagged, and awfully precarious to climb unless one has the proper equipment. The mountain is comprised of a number of different rock types, varying in age, strength, and hardness, and a determined person might be able to harvest metals and elements from it, if they look hard enough. There is also a series of caves, not necessarily all connected, but scattered across the entire mountainside. They vary in length and size, which offers players the freedom to explore with few restrictions. There might be some crystals in the caverns, too. Go nuts!

There is an empty Malnosso structure in the mountains, with the look of something that has been abandoned for a long time. There are several cells inside, with chains attached to the wall. In a large room towards the center of the building, there is a room with a few dusty tables and large, rusted machinery; a console that is built into a wall and a tank, large enough for a full grown man to fit inside. The console's monitor is empty and dead, and the electricity that once ran through the building is long gone, a rusted, busted generator locked up in a room deeper inside. While pieces of the more simple parts (gears, wires and the like) can be salvaged, anything computerized is too damaged to be used properly.

Lakes/Rivers

For each of the lakes, the temperature varies depending on season, but they're usually between 65-80 degrees F in spring and summer, and between 32-55 degrees F (0-13 C) for the rest of the year, colder when frozen.

The western lake is about 10 miles across; it takes several hours (on average) to walk the perimeter. The deepest point is approximately 50 feet, the average depth overall is 25-35 feet, with low depth for about 10-15 feet from the shore before the water level starts to drop. The shoreline has about five feet of sand-and-rock beach before the water starts, and there is a dock on the east side, close to where the river joins the lake. It's safe to dive off of, and there are several small cliff edges around the perimeter (ranging from 5-25 feet high) for cliff-diving.

This lake is totally frozen over (safe for skating and such) in approximately mid-December and is fully thawed by March.

The southern lake is about 5 1/2 miles across; it takes an hour or two to walk the perimeter. The deepest point is 40 feet but the overall average is closer to 20 feet, with low depth for about 10 feet from the shore before the water level starts to drop. The shoreline has about twenty feet of sandy beach on the northern edge, and primarily rocky terrain around the remaining perimeter. There is a dock close to the lake house.

This lake is frozen over by the first week of December and thaws by February.

The size of the river running through Luceti varies depending on location, but typically the statistics are as follows: 10-15 feet wide, 5-8 feet deep. The river usually flows slowly and steadily through the village from the mountain source to the two lakes. Despite the fact that it only flows in one direction, the lakes never overflow, nor does the mountain spring drain.

The mountain lake is about the same size of the southern lake, but there are no beaches; it's strictly surrounded by rocks, and it's not easy to get to by any means unless you know the route well enough. The lake is a great deal deeper than the others, however; unnaturally so. The center of the lake is seemingly bottomless. This lake never freezes over due to the depth and the proximity of the hot spring. It's usually a comfortable temperature regardless of season.

There is a hot spring located within half a mile of the mountain lake. It's not very well known; since it's primarily under the mountainside it stays out of sight and isn't often used due to its hard-to-reach location. The spring itself is soothing, warm, and clean at all times of the year, and the water has some curative properties. There is a small stream connecting the mountain lake to the hot spring.

Currently there is a teleporter that goes directly to the hot spring, and a bathhouse has been built.

Ocean

Beyond the mountain is a sandy beach for a mile or less; after that is a saltwater ocean that goes as far as the eye can see, well beyond the limits of the barrier. The ocean is fairly nondescript and self-explanatory at the moment; it's big, it's deep (500 ft farther out), it has some interesting ocean creatures, much like any other.

At the very edge of the ocean (before the barrier, that is), the former desert temple is now miles and miles under the surface. No doubt that it'll become an underwater castle for the fish before long.

Weather

The Weather Calendar (as linked above) shows Luceti's monthly weather schedule. For those who want more details:

All temperatures are in Fahrenheit due to the majority of players who use it; a converter for Celcius is here.

What this means:

AV = Average temperature; this is approximately what the weather is like on unmarked days.

MIN = Minimum temperature; this is roughly the coldest the weather gets. In all seasons this is the weather marked dark/light blue or brown on the calendar.

MAX = Maximum temperature; the hottest the weather gets. In warmer seasons this is the weather marked orange on the calendar.

SNOW = Whether or not it snows that month, obviously!

INCH = How many inches of snow a typical snowfall gets (marked brown on the calendar). Light snow (marked dark blue) is half that amount. An Imperial to metric converter is here.

Weapons/Clothes/Miscellaneous Items

Characters can find their own specific weapons and/or items (ie. whatever they might have been using prior to their arrival) in the weapon shop or the item bazaar, respectively. Any weapons/items with certain unnatural powers (ie. changing time or their environments) will have been stripped of said powers and reduced to that of their normal, every day counterpart. Most of these items will be handled on a case-by-case basis, depending on what powers they possess. For example, magic wands or the pins from The World Ends With You still work, but Link's ocarina would not change time, though it could still play prettiful music.

As stated in the FAQ, character's clothes are brought to Luceti with them; they can appear with the character upon arrival or in the clothing shop within a few days. Clothes are either left unaltered or cut to provide holes for the wings as per the players wishes.

If you have a specific article of clothing or item that you are not sure will work or is even allowed, please ask a mod.

Local Shops

A list of shops are available here, in the Housing Post. To expand on the summaries above-

Weapon Shop: Weapons! Duh. A character's main weapon should arrive within a few days of their arrival; if they have more than one weapon type (ie. Link having an entire army's worth of tools he uses to pwn things), they should wait a bit longer for others to arrive, if they come at all. Don't go crazy, but if you feel you need those other weapons, then feel free to have it arrive at some point. See the section above for more details on weapons.

Clothing Shop: Clothes! Also duh. Typically what a character finds here is whatever outfit they were wearing when they were brought to Luceti's world. If it was damaged, it should be repaired; if it was ruined, it would be replaced. If you want your character to get something different, then unless it's a specialty outfit that they shouldn't have, then it's probably okay for them to have it. On occasion, depending on how long the character has been in Luceti, other outfits or accessories they owned previously might also arrive in Luceti. There's also a good chunk of general clothing types, generic outfits of varying fashion from all kinds of worlds. In other words, feel free to use your own creativity in regards to what your character finds in the shop.

Grocery Shop: Food! More duh. We've had a few questions about what's here, so in short: think of an average, every day grocery store, and remove any food that requires something specific like a microwave/toaster/blender to make it. For the most part, it's just generic meal-making foodstuffs. Occasionally something weird or world-specific might show up (like a character finding flan cake, Pocky, or molepig steak) but it's usually normal every-world food.

Item Bazaar: This shop is for anything that doesn't fit into the categories of the other shops. Items such as household objects, building supplies and tools, furniture, craft supplies, climbing equipment, to list a few, are organized into small sections throughout the store. Pretty much anything that isn't technological or overly complex can probably be found there; just remember that this is a simple village without a lot of resources, so don't go crazy. There are no electronic appliances and no vehicles. There's also no curative items from other worlds (potions, gels, stuff like that); Luceti has the clinic and herbal remedies for most illnesses, plus the healing magic.

Player-run Shops:

There are a number of buildings that are handled by characters who requested them for a specific purpose; again, these are listed in the housing post. If a building becomes free for whatever reason, please consult a mod about claiming it. If we think it's a necessary or useful shop idea, feel free to go about implementing your idea ICly, though you might want to wait a little while before doing so- your character might not notice immediately that the building is free, after all! Have no fear, though; once you've talked to a mod and have been approved, the building is yours, so take your time with it.

If there are no buildings free, sorry, you're out of luck. You can, however, try to recruit people to help you build a place of your own, or just run a shop out of your own house or apartment. If your character manages this, feel free to drop a note on the housing post about it, and if it's still around next time the map is edited, we can add it in.

Battle Dome

The Battle Dome is a large spherical dome that was gifted to the Luceti inhabitants as a reward for the success in the Infiltration plot in October in the 4th cycle (2010). It provides holographic enemies for the inhabitants to practice against, as well as a medical center for treating patients.

Layout of the inner dome

The Dome is separated into six separate chambers. These are self contained rooms with impenetrable walls protected by powerful Shifts (so no, not even Superman can dent the insides of them). On their own, the rooms just appear to be empty rooms with steel bolted walls. When activated, they can simulate any environment from any universe that is currently in play in the game. This means if both Link from the Legend of Zelda series and Master Chief from the Halo series are both present, that means our spartan can go to Hyrule and run around bombing dodongos.

The chambers are activated by a central console in the center area of the dome. From here, characters can pick a scenario from a list of options, using either a touch screen or by voice command. An audio tutorial is also available for the most basic of functions. More advanced options can be found to customize scenarios with the following options:

You start off the game as what the locals refer to as a "New Feather." A bit of a clever term, coined by one of the residents and just picked up and carried by the others through word of mouth. You arrive with a little pair of miniature feathered wings on your back, which are more of a hassle than anything and usually ignored. Well, except for in the case of being injured or ripped off; then very bad things happen. So it's probably a good idea to take care of them.

Once you get settled, it's just a matter of trying to understand the situation; to the best of everyone's knowledge -disregarding any theories flying about- this world is called Luceti. There's a barrier that encircles the village and the adjoining desert, preventing further exploration beyond those boundaries. The groceries and all other stores are replenished seemingly through magical means; housing is free, everything is free. It's a pretty sweet deal; several of your fellow captives have even opened up shops of their own, to occupy their time or simply because they just like to do...whatever it is they're doing.

There are many different people and many diverse cultures you can spend your time getting to know. There are also the spirits -invisible, intangible manifestations of nature- to harness, so that you can perform elemental magic. The animals talk, although usually they don't provide very stimulating conversation. The library is chock full of books and scrolls containing information on the nature of Luceti and other worlds, homes of your fellow captives. For at least a week or so, your character should have plenty to do.

Well, and then there's the experiments; once or twice a month, very strange -sometimes ludicrous- occurrences will take place. People will change shape, change personality; the environment will warp drastically, a disease will spread, something out of the ordinary of Luceti will happen, whether it affects you directly or just your surroundings. Usually these changes are temporary; there are only very, very rare cases where people altered by these experiments or curses keep their new forms or frames of mind. When there aren't experiments, there are kidnappings; (seemingly) random abductions by their captors for individual study time. Usually those returned are left in a state far worse than when they'd been taken.

Definitely the bruise on the perfect apple, that. It's not an entirely hopeless situation, though; two traitors to the cause seem to have taken it upon themselves to "help" the people of Luceti. They call themselves John and Jacob. Whether or not anything good is coming of it has yet to be seen, but it's better than stagnation. Nothing could be worse than absolutely no change at all.

Not to mention there's just something odd about the whole set up; what's the point of the wings? Where did the Malnosso come from, who were the original Filial? There are no history books in the library to speak of, so that resource is out. People don't stay dead, but return with what's called a Death Penalty; something precious is taken in exchange for a second chance at life. Why? And what, precisely, is Shifting? Too many questions and not enough answers.

Or maybe someone simply hasn't asked the right questions.

Timeline
True to the definition of the word, this is a timeline post; this is for all past events and plot-related goings-on on Luceti, so that newcomers can get a good idea of what's happened and old-timers can refresh their memories.

-2007-

October 26th Luceti opens.

November 4th-11th: The Flood Not much to explain here; the rivers welled over and flooded most of the village. The water stayed for a week before receding back into the rivers rather abruptly. All water damage repaired itself.

November 18th-25th: Flowers Flowers covered the village like a girly plague of color and cute. Even the insides of the homes were not safe.

-2008-

Janurary 8th-15th: Chibis Again, pretty self-explanatory. For a week, characters of the muns' choosing were shrunk down to cutesy little snuggables. Whether or not they retained their state of mind was left up to the mun.

January 23rd-30th: The Hunter A Hunter was released into the woods; he was humanoid in appearance, but hulking and wingless. He was an invincible foe, and attempted to tear off the wings of any he came across. One wing lost earned you weeks of agony, and two earned you death.

February 14th-21st: V-Day People fallin' in love all over the place. The first commenter on a journal fell in love with the poster, unless either were already taken by a previous affliction of affection.

February 27th-March 5th: Genderbender ...it's genderbender. Characters are genderbent. ಠ_ಠ

March 19th-26th: The Virus A horrible plague spread throughout the village; depending on the strain, characters either fell ill for several days before recovering, or they died. Symptoms included pain spasms, fevers, and coughing up blood; after that, they varied.

March 27th: In addition... Itsuki had held the hospital hostage with a bunch of bombs; he demanded the head of Nina Parker as payment. Speculation places this mostly as a social study on his part, but the Malnosso pitched in by releasing dangerous monsters into the forest for a little while, just to add confusion.

April 5th-12th: Animals Characters turned into animals; whether just regular, plain old w/e animals or animals from their worlds, it was up to the mun.

April 28th-May 7th: Personality Switch Again, pretty self-explanatory; for a period of about three weeks, characters got some of their powers back and underwent radical personality changes. Whether these changes were humorous or all for the angst, or hell just to explore another aspect of the character one isn't able to under normal circumstances, it didn't matter. Characters also frequently reverted back to their original personalities to be utterly horrified at what had transpired during their moments spent changed.

June 11th-18th: Darkness ...it got dark. :| No sunlight, no moonlight, no starlight.

July 21st-August 10th: Time Skip Kind of like the above chibi event, only you could make your character younger or older.

September 1st: The End, Part 1 The barrier disappears, the sky turns red, all powers are restored to full and Death Penalties are null and void. An abandoned facility sits deep in the woods beyond the mountains, but otherwise Luceti appears to be an island floating within nothingness, rivers simply roaring off of the edge of the land and into the fathomless sky.

September 3rd: The End, Part 2 Food is not replenishing in the stores, and the buildings aren't repairing themselves. Also, about the abandoned structure there are flits of ghost-like figures sliding in and out of the character's vision.

September 7th-13th: The End, Part 3 Characters heard a high-pitched shriek at the same moment the bar codes on the backs of their necks burned sharply. It only lasts for a moment, but from that moment onward the wings grew numb, began to molt and grew thinner and thinner until they were practically skeletal. During this, the characters fell ill with a terrible weakness.

September 12th: The End, Part 4 (The Rapture) Several characters disappeared for 24 hours, having vanished without even a trace. Turns out they went back home for that time, only to pop back into Luceti a day later.

September 28th: Chatterbox Characters had the uncontrollable urge to talk and talk and TALK. Very fun for the strong and silent types.

October 18th-26th: Ghosts of the Past Characters would see up to three ghosts of people who'd died in their pasts; either those who they've killed, those who are closely tied to their lives who died, it doesn't matter. The ghosts couldn't be interacted with unless the character haunted by them "introduced" them to another person. The ghosts all appeared exactly as they had when they'd died. Gruesome.

November 7th: It starts raining in Luceti. For a long time.

November 26th: Well Collapse The well collapses and reveals a tunnel system beneath the village; characters gathered to investigate.

November 30th: Tunnel System/Coded Papers Characters can now access the tunnel system and head down to explore; going into the tunnels robs one of their super powers, however. There are several examination rooms branched off (inside these rooms are a bunch of papers on each character), a warehouse at one end and an opening into a vast desert at the other. The desert crew received instructions from a certain "helper."

December 4th: Desert Ruins The characters that were trekking through the desert have come across the desert ruins. A temple with excavation tents set around it, a couple laptops, but mostly barren of anything useful. Inside are a bunch of chambers emblazoned with a spiral motif, bones, ceremonial jars, markings on the wall worn with time and sand, etc.

December 19th-20th: Fourth Wall Characters only have a hazy recollection of this at the very best...but basically it was a fourth wall event. :| You know how those go.

December 11th: Traitor Talk The traitor, aka Jacob now, requests that residents come up with a key phrase to use in their entries, in case they want to contact him. ...but muns should just put a note at the bottom of the entry saying they'd like to talk to either John or Jacob because there is no way the mods can remember all those key phrases.

December 24th: Presents! Each of the characters got a little something from home! It could've been something they've wanted, or something they'd never want to see again, it was up to the player.

December 29th: Further details on Luceti boundaries are set. Also, on the 30th following, John introduces himself as Secret Santa and gives some info.

-2009-

January 4th-11th: Chaotic Pantheon Mystical creatures ahoy! Just like the animal event, only with legends/mythical beasts/etc.

January 24th-31st: Total Recall Characters got to repeat any personal event they liked the best, just because it's fun. There is a list of the events for them to chose from.

Feb 3rd: Power in the Tunnels Jacob dishes out a few orders and over the course of about ten days, a group of the characters collects together and jumps into the tunnels to hopefully get power back on for numerous reasons. They are successful; there is now power in the tunnels, the outlets work and the floodlights above are on.

February 14th-21st: V-day (Repeat) A repeat of the previous year's V-day event, since it was such a smash. Only a few changes, highlighted in the post.

February 22nd: John Announcement The shopkeepers having gone inexplicably missing a few days before, John lets the populace of Luceti know what's become of them. Somewhat. He also starts gathering some rather curious information.

February 26th: The Laptops On the first expedition out there, Albert Silverburg's crew had snatched the two laptops found in the tents around the desert ruins. Here Jacob tells them to use them. He also mentions Tyr, the weapons shopkeeper.

March 19th-26th: Stranger Than Fiction Characters pick a genre -some sort of movie, TV show, video game, etc- to act out. ...basically, be as ridiculous and weird as you can.

April 7th: Death Penalties John requests volunteers for experimentation on the removal of the Death Penalties. Also, the Death Penalty Removal Sign-Up was added OOCly to the community.

April 19th: Personality Glitches A character's specific personality trait is either suppressed or exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness. Not a lot to explain.

April 23rd: John removes his first Death Penalty John conducts a silent kidnapping and keeps his "patient" for three days. Friends and loved ones are not pleased.

April 26th: Jacob Talks Jacob tries to hint to get some gears moving, and ends up revealing a hell of a lot. Very plot-choked post, here, though half the threads are locked.

April 27th: A Following Summary Where Estelle sums up very nicely what knowledge Jacob saw fit to share, along with whatever else was shared by the residents.

May 12th: Introducing ANI A new NPC is introduced; ANI, the Automated Neutral Intelligence system. While many topics of conversation are noted as classified by ANI as per the wishes of 'her' creator, she does indeed divulge a great deal of information. Another plot-heavy post.

May 15th: Albert Takes Charge In which Albert...well, takes charge. He makes a post to inform new residents what to expect, as well as to start a discussion based on what was revealed in the ANI post several days prior. A good read.

May 24th: The Accident Oops. A very, very plot-heavy event. Certain residents are possessed by the elemental spirits; their wings grow, they can cast powerful magic, some of them even experience changes in personality to reflect whom they were possessed by.

May 26th: ANI Blabs ANI reveals that the recent changes are not the result of an experiment; she doesn't have much to offer besides conjecture, but the residents discover that the recent changes are worldwide.

May 26th (later in the day): An Offer Not to be Refused The Malnosso give the residents an ultimatum; kill the affected, or they'll take matters into their own hand. Weapons and powers are returned to full, save for summons and vehicles. They provide no information on the crisis, and two days later, affected people begin to die in horrific ways.

May 29th: Viva la Resistance Some of the villagers decide to take matters into their own hands and usher the affected into the tunnels, as an effort to protect them from dangers within and without. (Actual tunnel post here.)

May 30th: John to the Rescue! John informs everyone -including the Malnosso- of their blinding incompetence and rushes in to save the day with a smug laugh, too much attitude and that insufferable grin. Here are the OOC details of the event end.

June 2nd: Guy gets talky. ...Guy gets talky. He kind of summarizes what both John and ANI said about the possessions, and offers up the floor for comments.

June 6th: Player plot Haruki drew a peculiar chalk symbol on the ground. Several days later, strange things were happening. Relevant OOC posts concerning this particular phenomenon are here, here and here.

June 20th: You are what you...hate. Another form-changing experiment. Characters despise something -a person, an item, an ideal- and they become it.

June 29th: John trolls the village again. John sticks his nose into people's business, and asks for another volunteer for the Death Penalty removals. He also offers a little bit of comfort concerning the barrier...not that it's very sincere.

July 11th: President Albert Speech. Albert summarizes what's known/assumed about all the things that have to say off the journal system.

July 14th: John calls for Svala. They have a brief word; Jacob is revealed as still alive -though vaguely incapacitated- and is taken topside and cared for by Svala. The next day he's found in the courtyard handing out POV guns.

August 3rd: Hypnotic Characters have the strangest urge to obey every order given to them. ...this cannot end well.

August 9th: The Breach ANI reports a mysterious "breach" to both John and the population of Luceti. Details are scarce, but apparently it's by two members of the mysterious Third Party the Malnosso seem to be battling outside of Luceti. John swiftly adjusts the barrier to exclude the desert ruins, where they reside.

August 17th: The Ever-helpful Albert Upon the conclusion of the month-long "New Feather Cycle" of July, Albert neatly sums Luceti up and provides an explanation of the current events. Better than CNN.

August 21st: Sacrifice A video feed is sent across the journal systems. Jacob has been ritualistically sacrificed in the desert ruins.

August 22nd: Explanations John offers what little information he cares to part with concerning Jacob's death.

August 28th: The Torch is Passed John gives up the task of protecting the village to the inhabitants; he lowers the barrier to allow the intruders passage and places a blanket dampening effect on their Shifting abilities. Inhabitants also get all of their powers returned to them in full for the duration of the battle.

August 29th: The War With an OOC explanation here, a massive log for characters to battle with the invaders begins. The General offers more roundabout explanations; it seems that the Third Party believes itself to be the saviors of the people of Luceti, claiming that "death is the only escape."

September 1st: Congratulations, your prize is nothing! ANI basically says "Hey you guys won, glad to see you alive. Now sit back and be specimens again." Not very good news, but existing is always nice.

September 17th: Raine is Also Ever-helpful. Raine sums up Shifting, the Malnosso, Jacob, John and ANI, the Third Party, the possessions in May and the current situation.

September 23rd: Body-Switch Event Back to business as usual! Another experiment, which goes to show that either the Malnosso are still working on their Shifting or they've got nothing better to do.

October 25th: Luceti Land Basically, John is showing off. A chunk of the forest is transformed into a massive themepark complete with a free hotel/resort for characters to stay in. Droids are running the attractions -save for those who run out of tokens- and fun is had by nearly all. Also, Jacob is alive and well! Only...he's a little strange. And there seems to be a very strange man going by the moniker of "the Great Mysterio" reading fortunes. ...when he feels like it.

October 31st: Halloween Ball The characters are required to attend a Halloween Ball thrown in the lobby of the hotel in Lucetiland. The droids seem pretty dead set on keeping party goers inside...that could be because the Hunter was set loose in the park. ANI had warned John of it beforehand.

November 7th: Kurtis proposes an idea. The 38th Defender of Earth in a Prinny's body suggests that residents set up a concrete plan for escape if the barrier is ever breached, as well as begin conception and construction of a distress signal.

November 9th: Guidlines and "Gifts" ANI lets everyone know what's safe to discuss over the journals while her creator offers a stolen conversation for some brain food. The conversation reveals that though Jacob's been revived, he apparently remembers "nothing." Which...doesn't make sense since he recognized people he'd met in Lucetiland...

November 21st: The Letter Characters receive a uniform letter instructing them to go to the central plaza that Friday for a chance to escape. The letter specifically notes that there are consequences to people staying in Luceti, but fails to expound upon them. People are understandably skeptical.

November 24th: ANI's creator sticks her nose in everyone's business. She insists that the letters were sent by neither the Malnosso nor herself. When the contents of the letter are brought to light, ANI urges Estelle to warn the inhabitants not to talk about the consequences over the journals. The reason for this? They're true.

November 30th: The Eccentric The portal that appeared and sent people to random places within the barrier suddenly morphs into a holographic old man who proceeds to be...very strange.

December 3rd: Jade brings people up to date. Concerning the portal, the little old man and the private networks. He's awesome.

December 17th: Albert's Talk Show Albert does his usual "this is how this is" talk for the new residents over in the locked community, bringing people up to date concerning things they can't discuss over the network.

December 18th: 4th Wall Event Extremely self-explanatory. :|

December 21st: Rem mothers. She checks back with the kids and explains a few things; apparently the 4th wall event is described as some kind of Shifting accident.

January 31st: Don't Quit Your Day Job Characters are influenced to suddenly pick up another career. Fun! There are some hilarious outcomes for this.

Feb 10th: Rem Recruits Or just pitches the idea, mostly. John's the one who suggest it in the first place, and Rem follows up on her promise to talk to the residents. What exactly this entails is explained OOCly here.

February 13th: A Town Meeting People were brought up to speed about the situation, discussions were made concerning the battle that took place, and suggestions to make the world go round were brought up.

February 20th: More Newsflash from Albert I should come up with a catchy title that sticks, here.

February 21st: Dragobete Somewhat dissimilar from previous V-day events. Love with a little spin on it. There's also a very exciting log to look through.

March 1st: The Eccentric Revealed! The Eccentric offers a compromise: Work for them and receive common luxuries. Some would rather call it bribery.

March 9th: The Draftees The Malnosso show a list of people recruited for the war, including those who never volunteered, with a choice to fight for them or not. As if they really have a choice. Preparations are made.

March 13th: War The draftees arrive in Desset City (although some are dragged against their will) and take advantage of the fact that, literally, anything can come to them if they ask for it. They spend the next week fighting off the Third Party, then return on March 22nd. As promised, the Malnosso supply electricity to the populace. Wild parties and attempts to gain electrified super saiyan hair are had.

March 19th: Newsflash from Raine Raine brings the current New Feathers up to date with what's hip and happening in Luceti.

March 30th: A Proposition... is Summoned The Observer informs the summoners that there is a way to summon things from their world; however, she also tells them that doing so is extremely damaging to it. Still, she tells them that she'll return with lessons regarding it.

May 2nd: The Observer Fulfills Her Promise Basically what the title says; The Observer contacts the village and tells the summoners to meet her. There, she teachers them how to summon in Luceti and warns them of the consequences this may have.

May 31st: Echoes from Home Inexplicably, characters notice or find tiny little hints of their home worlds in the enclosure. OOCly, applications closed, so villagers begin to notice the lack of New Feathers.

June 12th: Bil Talks Business Bil brings several things up for discussion: ANI's existence, the kidnappings, giving Albert the next draft list, taking credit for sending villagers home. John corrects him.

June 17th: Internet Memes Event From the 17th to 23rd, Lucetians became subject of an experiment that seemed to have a lot in common with internet memes. Somebody had to have been fired for that.

July 22nd: Bil Talks Business Bil announces the second draft, sending the villagers to Sirry Crags, a canyon-esque mountain range. The battle took place from the 25th to 31st.

August 4th: The Earthquake At 9:30 AM on an average morning, Luceti was abruptly shaken by an earthquake that devastated the village, caused massive flooding from the river, and collapsed the western tunnels. John sounds an emergency, prompting ANI to call for assistance. He is rescued in short order.

August 9th: Who Summoned You? Still in the wake of the earthquake, things get worse in the village as it is suddenly invaded by a host of summoned monsters, torn from their home dimensions. These villagers are forced to fight the beasts until they vanish on the 14th. On the 12th, John wakes up in the barracks. He soon speaks to Bil to fix the village.

August 15th: Alternate Universes Although John's fix managed to cause the village to repair and banished the summoned beasts, things take a twist when people begin to be replaced with versions of themselves from alternate universes! On the 21st, everything returns to normal. OOCly, apps re-open at the end of the month and residents begin to notice a bi-monthly New Feather cycle starts up again.

September 15th: Bil Talks of Pets Bil reveals that the New Feather cycle has indeed returned. He also begins prodding villagers about their feelings about having pets. Maybe this isn't just him being generous.

September 23rd: Teleporting Experiment The residents are once again forced to put up with yet another experiment as they find themselves teleporting around Luceti at random.

October 7th: The Infiltration Bil organizes a mass infiltration of a Malnosso experimentation facility. The details of the facility are outlined, and as a reward for their efforts, a Battle Dome is installed for the residents.

October 23rd: Halloween Shenanigans Luceti is decorated for Halloween, dead animals are found in the woods, and hallucinations begin to plague the residents. A tent appears for the Halloween Ball, where a strange Beak Doctor slips through the party, stealing feathers, until he is destroyed in the tunnels. A new NPC is discovered, Molly.

November 21st: Total Recall Past experiments are brought back yet again in a two-week free-for-all.

December 12th: Underwater Draft Another draft occurs, this time in an underwater facility. The General makes a return appearance, claiming the lives of several draftees. As a result of the draft, the desert in the enclosure floods and becomes an ocean.

January 24th: You Are What You Love Residents become what they love. Obviously.

February 14th: Choose Your Own (Love)venture The annual Valentine's Day event, with more options and more crazy antics.

February 22nd: Southern Farmlands Draft Bil announces another draft, this time including side effects for those forcibly Shifted into the battle.

March 27th: Change Of Species Residents of the village awaken to find themselves transformed into a completely different species.

April 21st: Luceti's Alternate History The village is Shifted to believe that they have always lived in Luceti, having grown up there; families between characters are formed regardless of age, species, or previously established CR. Bil is welcomed into the village as a benevolent friend and guardian, and John is revered as a god. More details here. After a while, characters begin to dream about their true lives, and Shift Hunters lurk through the village, searching for Bil. By the end of it, Bil and Molly have taken up residence beneath the village, like John.

June 1st: The Jungle Draft A new NPC, the Commandant, announces a draft taking place in a dangerous, enemy-infested jungle. Ultimately the battle is lost, and the draftees are forced to retreat.

July 27th: Battledome Malfunction: In an attempt to upgrade the Battle Dome to something brand new and shiny, things get broken. However, in the aftermath, upgrades are made to the Battle Dome.

August 18th: Luceti Land! The return of Luceti Land! Go on the roller coaster? Try your luck at the midway? The choices are all up to you.

August 25th: The Naval Warfare Draft The Commandant announces a draft taking place on the open seas while protecting a cargo ship of unknown supplies.

September 2th: A Fairy Tale Life Residents are forced to act out fairy tales or character archetypes.

October 22nd: CJ and the Missons The R.P. Manager of the Malnosso, CJ, announces brand new missions for residents to go out on.

November 15th: The Underground City A general announcement from the Malnosso is sent out over the journals alerting the villages of an upcoming draft, one taking place in an underground mine that had breached a Third Party underground city. Unique to the draft was the ability to "tag" or capture Third Party members to place in a special detention center. Overall, the draft was a success and the draftees were returned on the 19th.

November 15th: Blizzard Villages not on the draft find themselves trapped wherever they are as a blizzard hits the village. The blizzard eases up on the 17th and finally ends on the 18th.

A WORD TO THE WISE. We don't have a hiatus limit, but if your hiatus is going to be longer than a couple weeks, PLEASE either contact a mod or state what you're going to do with your character(s) in the meantime. Also, realize that you are going to miss a hell of a lot, so it would be a good idea to think of some reason why your character is unaware of what's happened.

ADDITIONALLY. We need an estimate for hiatuses. We can't have "indefinite" or "I don't know" because if an AC rolls around and you've been on hiatus for two months, we may have to cut you. It's not fair to have someone sitting on a character for an unknown length of time, to canonmates and those with CR with that character. Please be considerate to your other players.

Setting Questions

1. Where is my character?
You’re in Luceti. Around you are lush forests and towering mountains, and you get to stay in a cute, quaint little village. The village is a series of houses and apartment complexes, a system of cobbled and/or beaten dirt roads, a plaza at the center of town with a river forking through the village and bridges spanning over it. There is indoor plumbing and gas-powered stoves, as well as furnaces to heat the water and fireplaces to heat the house, so you can be comfortable. There are iceboxes for food and such, but they aren’t refrigerators. There's a fountain in the plaza, as well as a hole serving as an entrance to the tunnel system that passes under the mountains. There are several shops run by both characters and NPCs; a general item store, a clothing shop, a grocery, and a weapons shop are where character's items will appear after their arrival. All items are, of course, free.

Outside the village, there is a large mountain range and two lakes that are fed by one of the river outlets. There is a structure in the mountains that was uncovered in the event “The End;” the structure is an empty base. Beyond the mountains is a large desert, with the ruins of what was probably once a temple. For more information regarding the layout and features of the area, please refer to the Map/Housing post and the Nitpicker's Guide.

2. Barrier? What barrier?
There is a transparent barrier around Luceti preventing characters from moving further than the designated area. As of right now, the barrier extends well beyond the village in all four directions, and it can take hours or even days to reach it. The north and south edges are easier to reach than east or west. The barrier is impenetrable by any means and doesn't change unless dictated by an event.

3. Who's fault is this?
The Malnosso. The Filial don’t provide a lot of information on their torturers, but basically what you’ll know is that they are scientists performing experiments for the sake of collecting data. Why, how and what for, on the other hand, are topics you are free to explore in the game. For more details on what goes on during experimentation, check out the Nitpicker's Guide.

4. Is my money of any use in Luceti?
Nope, you’ve been robbed! There is no money here in Luceti, but you don’t have to worry about food or anything of the like. Any food, supplies or medicines you need will be provided for you.

5. Will there be events in Luceti?
Of course! It would be a boring game if there weren’t. Occasionally the events will be light-hearted and silly, but sometimes they’ll be dark and trying for your characters. Sometimes, they’ll even be neutral. They’ll usually run a week long, although more involved events have been known to last an entire month.

6. Is there health care?
Yes indeed! While there is healing magic able to be learned and a multitude of healers already within the village, there is also a clinic for the severely wounded/ill.

7. Are there monsters in the forest?
Not especially. There’s mostly the regular wildlife; foxes, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, rabbits, wolves, deer…the like. There aren’t random giraffes or dinosaurs or anything of the like though; keep in mind that these are forest animals. Some events will have monsters released into the woods and mountains, so be sure to pay attention!

8. What is time/day system like?
It is your average schedule; twenty-four hours in a day. There will also be seasons, just like on earth, summer, fall, winter and spring. The amount of light and dark in a day will pertain to the season.

There is one sun, one moon, and the phases are all normal unless events state otherwise.

9. Are there NPCs?
There are a number of NPCs that regularly interact with characters in the roleplay, all of whom post to the malnosso journal. Some are friendly, some not, some questionably trustworthy. The Nitpicker's Guide has more info on each of them.

There are a handful of unplayed storekeepers, who run their shops silently and seem extremely docile, almost to the point of emotionlessness. Any efforts to dredge information regarding the Malnosso from them is relatively pointless, although your character is more than welcome to try.

Character Questions

1. What can my character expect upon waking up in the Luceti?
Your character can wake up anywhere in Luceti, inside or out, provided they're within the limits of the barrier. When the boys wake up, they're shirtless and wearing loose-fitting white cotton pants. Girls will have knee-length, white cotton sundresses. Their clothes can either be folded neatly beside them, or they can find them later in the shops if you so desire. However, missing will be their money and items. Weapons (non-explosives, such as swords, staves and the like) can be found later in the weapons’ shop. Any other personal items (non-magical in nature) can be found in the smaller shops around the village. However, items like explosives and any magic-based items (materia, Link’s ocarina, wands, so on and so forth) need to be cleared with a head mod before they can be found. More details on this can be found in the Nitpicker's Guide. If certain items are important to a character's health, secrecy, state of being, or any such thing, they can keep them or find them nearby when they wake up.

Any powers, abilities, or super strengths they might have are weakened to 50% unless an event dictates it to be higher/lower.

2. How about the journal?
The most important item your character will find when they wake up is the journal, their window of communication with the rest of the village unless you're meeting face to face. It’s basically like a written live journal. A little picture, like your icon, will show up next to your comments on other’s entries. This way, others can see a snapshot of how your character is reacting to something. Also, the journal is magic, so it can imprint your voice, if you tell it to. There's more details about the function of the journal in Question #1 of the next section, or the Nitpicker's Guide.

If the journal is torn, destroyed, or stolen, it will repair itself and return to its owner within a day or so. Characters can put some distance between themselves and the journal without consequence, though.

3. How about the wings?
That's right, wings. Your character has been fitted with a lovely little pair of short wings of varying color. They're fully mobile and physically a part of the character now, and removing them causes death. They can't fly with them, but with practice they might be able to hover a bit off the ground. Overall they're pretty useless, though. More details in the Nitpicker's Guide.

4. What's with the Tags?
The Tags are markings the Malnosso put on the Filial to keep track of all their test subjects. It's this little barcode on the back of your character’s neck; it’s painless, and relatively easy to overlook, but marks your character as an experimental subject. Attempting to ‘cut it off’ is gross and pointless, since once the skin grows back, the tag will still be there.

5. Why is my character here?
The story you’ll probably get is that the Malnosso used some sort of device or ability to bring your character to Luceti, alter them so that they resemble the locals -called “Filial”- and experiment on the population, both as a whole and upon individuals. Of course, whether or not this is true is really up to what you decide to believe.

6. Can my character leave?
Technically, no. If you drop a character, the common belief is that your character was sent back to their world. In the case of someone else wanting to pick up that same character, they can; they’ll simply have no memories of their previous stay in Luceti. However, if you decide you’d like to pick your character back up again, then you can choose whether or not he or she will retain his or her memories.

7. Can my character die?
Yes. Your character is completely free to die. However, think carefully before deciding to kill your character off; there is a penalty for making the Malnosso work to bring your sorry ass back. First off, it’s gonna take at least a full week to bring someone back to life. It’s messy business, y’know. Secondly, there’s a price to pay. Your character will lose something important to them; a memory, a limb, a sense. Also, you will need to clear your death and penalty with a head mod before running through with it. 8. How do the characters communicate within Luceti?
Ah, this is a big one. Communication is done through journals. The journals are hand written, but they are magical in their design. There is a small window that serves as the “icon,” where your character can be seen. Hacking is also somewhat vague; the general rule is that if your character is extremely intelligent/good with computers, they can encrypt/hack messages with less effort. The percentage of hackability is left to the mun’s discretion, but please do be reasonable and don’t abuse it. If something is unhackable, it’s unhackable. Additionally, if you are locking an entry please provide whether or not it is hackable, and a percentage on how easy it is to hack. Thank you!

9. My character has a magical ability. Can s/he use them in Luceti?
That depends on the ability! Spells, elemental and physical, songs, all that jazz is allowed. Characters can even learn such abilities from their canon fellows if such abilities are something that can be taught. However, we can’t allow summon spirits unless the character has received teachings from an NPC, simply because of the complications involved with some of them having personalities and acting of their own accord. You’re more than welcome to app a summon spirit, though!

In regards to the ability to summon a weapon into existence, characters can keep it. An example would be most characters in the Kingdom Hearts games.

In regards to spells and powers, consider their potency to be at fifty percent. Also, there is a specific brand of Luceti elemental magic that can be learned addressed in another question.

In regards to telepathy/precognition/etc., they too are limited to 50% ability. In addition, since telepathy can invade another character's mind, it can be considered as godmoding, so if you have a character with some sort of psychic ability, you must have some sort of permission post so players can tell you what your character is allowed to do when meeting theirs.

10. My character has a non-magical ability. Can s/he use them in Luceti?
Any natural talent, such as swordplay, hand-to-hand combat, etc; these skills are left alone. Anything like super strength or enhanced speed and agility is toned down as per the dampening effect; consider your character at fifty percent potential regarding this. So if your character can lift a truck, maybe now they can only lift a compact, so on and so forth. If you are confused about exactly how much weaker your character is, please contact a mod for specifications!

11. My character is an immortal who can regenerate and can't be killed!
Since powers are halved in Luceti, they might not be the case. If a character is torn apart or completely vaporized, that counts as a death. But regeneration in general is allowed; it will take longer and not be as strong, however, due to the power cap.

12. What if my character has already died in canon?
Doesn't matter! Characters can be taken post-death and be alive with no consequences in Luceti. They're not zombified or anything, just normal folk.

13. My character can transform! Is this affected in Luceti?
Generally it's allowed, though it sometimes depends on what they transform into or what said transformation requires to trigger. More often than not we have no problem with it, and if you're not sure, feel free to ask us! Also, the wings remain on the character regardless of their form.

14. What if my character isn’t human or humanoid?
All characters are permitted regardless of species, provided the character is a character and not, say, a random creature in whatever fandom of your choosing. We've had animals in Luceti (such as Amaterasu from Okami) and humanoids (like Sonic the Hedgehog or various robots). If you're apping a creature that is some sort of pet/companion to another, you should consult a mod to see if the character hasn't already been allowed to have that creature in Luceti! (A good example of this would be Pokemon.) Also, some creatures may not qualify to be apped, so ask if you're not sure that they're enough of a character.

15. What if my character has an animal companion? Can they come to Luceti with them?
Depends on whether or not the character has a personality that makes them appable, and how likely they are to be apped. For example, we've allowed characters to have the following:

-creatures that are physically attached to the character (such as Ashton's dragons in Star Ocean 2 or Ginko's mushi)
-creatures that spiritually attached to the character (such as Yuzuriha's Inuki from X)
-creatures that act as a character's weapon (such as Pokemon)

What we allow, but with certain limitations:

-creatures with personalities and large roles in canon but with no speaking role, those that can be or have been apped (such as Repede from Tales of Vesperia or Ash's Pikachu)

What we won't allow:

-a pet/creature from a character's world that has no physical or spiritual bond with them (such as anyone but Allen Walker getting Timcanpi)
-a pet/creature/companion with a significant speaking role (such as Keroberos from Card Captor Sakura)

Basically it's a case-by-case thing, so just ask a mod if it's allowed. Recently the Malnosso have begun to bring creature companions into the enclosure, so if your character has one, feel free to use the Pet Registration and bring them in. Only a character's pet or an animal close to them is allowed right now, not just a random creature from the same location. There are occasional events that allow that sort of thing, though, so keep an eye out.

16. In that case, can my character find a pet within Luceti?
Most of the animals in the village and the forest surrounding it are wild, but considering they can talk, it's plausible that a character might be able to convince them to come home with them. Try to be realistic about it, though.

17. What if my character has wings already?
Depends on the wing type. If the wings are always there (eg. an angel-type character) they are supplemented with the Filial wings, ie. having an extra, smaller pair of wings (the Filial style, for those with characters like Gargoyles who have a different sort). If they are wings that can be summoned and sent away at will (eg. the Chosen in Tales of Symphonia), they'll probably be allowed, so ask a mod if it's a concern. If the wings are essential to the character getting around (eg. a dragon or Navi the fairy), the regular wings are allowed, with the smaller Filial wings between them. It makes life awkward, but them's the breaks.

18. I want my character to have crazy cool mecha wings! Is that allowed?
Sorry, but no can do; if your character is robotic, then the wings are obviously inorganic, but serve the same purpose as organic wings. They are build to appear organic, and if they are removed then your character will “cease functioning.” AKA, die, just like an organic character. Multi-colored wings and such are allowed, of course; be as tacky as you like. The wing color is not significant; you can pick a color that fits the character or have something random and silly. You can also change the wing color if you want; all you have to do is repost their character info on the Taken Characters post.

19. My character can communicate with the planet/gods!
That's nice. But not anymore, sorry |D Any communication outside of the barrier is pretty much disabled, so you're SOL.

20. What's this I hear about Filial magic?
As a Filial, your character will be capable of performing magic! The spirits each have their own name and personality, but do not have a physical form; rather, he or she or it can be “heard” by your character, simply by listening carefully. Also, beneath these spirits are lesser spirits, which are the ones your character will come into contact with most often. The lesser spirits don’t have individual names, and are flighty and difficult to talk to in that they don’t usually waste time teaching any skills or giving any hints on performing magic. It takes a bit of a breakthrough to hear the “true” voice of an element, but with enough trying, your character can certainly succeed. No mod involvement is required unless you have questions, so feel free to show initiative and get things rolling without us.

21. My character suffers from some sort of disease, disability, or injury. Will s/he still have it in Luceti?
All mortal wounds are healed upon arrival; other than that, any kind of crippling disability or disease is left with them. Unless it’s something that’ll kill your character outright and relatively quickly (aka AIDS, anything that requires medication and/or hospital care) then your character still has it. Blindness, a bum leg, so on and so forth. If you’d like your character to be healed of this disability either before arrival or sometime during the game, please contact a head mod with your request.

22. Can our characters have jobs?
There really isn’t a need for jobs since food and clothes are provided. But if you want to start some sort of little business, then it's up to you. Think about what might be needed, or fun for your character. They're allowed to have some good times. Also, there is a school for the Filial. It is one of the largest buildings in the village, so it’s hard to miss. If your character wants to attend school, there is a school program available for everyone interested.

23. What should we do if we want characters to get married/have children, etc.?
This is a good question. Marriage between characters is completely up to the muns, there is no real mod approval required. However, if you wish to have a large wedding, or something that may as well turn into its own event/affect a lot of characters, you should ask a mod as to when a good date would be to set the wedding. This way, there won't be any major events planned for the day of said marriage. You don't want fire raining from the sky while you're walking down the aisle.

As for children, Luceti will allow children to be born. Please take into account that this isn't a CRACK RP, so there won't be any random/male pregnancies. If two characters (Yes, they have to be male and female... sorry guys, that's just how biology works) decide they REALLY want to have kids together, the muns MUST discuss this with a mod. It is a BIG decision and it can place strain on the game. Please make sure the child will be accounted for and that it won't just be some random fluke. Kids are serious, even in RP. 24. What about things like guns/cigarettes/narcotics?
Previously these things have been outlawed in Luceti. However, cigarettes are now permitted; feel free to find them in the grocery. There really isn't any kind of carding in Luceti, so yes minors can get ahold of them. Hopefully their caretakers are watching. Alcohol is distributed at the bar, so it would be up to the owner whether or not he or she will give any to your character. Narcotics such as marajuana, heroin, cocaine and other illegal substances are not in Luceti.

On the issue of guns; if you character has a specific gun he or she keeps in their CANON, he or she may find it in the weapons shop where the other characters would find things such as swords, etc (ammunition can also be found here in controlled amounts). However, if your character does not use a gun in his or her canon, please do not have him or her randomly picking up a piece. Thank you very much!

Player Questions

1. What is the format for RPing in Luceti?
There is a set posting format for Luceti for character journals, which is as follows:

As a regular journal.
Namely, just making a regular text entry. Self-explanatory.

As a recording device.
Your journal can record sound, so you can most certainly do an audio post. In order to do this, please put [Audio Post] or [Voice] or something in the subject line to specify. Please keep in mind that these don't need to run for about thirty minutes, so they shouldn't be ten paragraphs long.

For quick logs, or Action Posts.
We understand that logs are tedious and difficult to complete, so we're allowing the use of an Action Post. Simply put [Action] in the subject line of the post (or comment, if your comments turn out that way) and write out your character's actions using the following format:

[Adam walked down the road, his hands in his pockets. He glanced as the sky as he shaded his eyes with a hand; bright again today.] Wonder when we'll see some rain.

[Continuing onward down the street, he was stopped by a friend.]

Like so. Using this format will unify the way everything looks on everyone's flists and just makes it that much easier to scan through things without trying to differentiate between different formats. If your Action Post is too lengthy, please use the logs comm. If it runs over three paragraphs, consider that lengthy.

You can also combine formats, eg. have a [Voice / Action] post, where a character speaks over the journal and can be found somewhere in person at the same time.

2. I live in a different time zone. Can I still apply?
We're willing accept anyone from any place and any time zone! So no worries if you live outside of North America. We don't even ask |D

3. I want to app for [insert character]! Can I?
Just about any character in any fandom is appable as long as they're not already taken. Anime, video game, live action, movies, whatever. There are some exceptions, so make sure you check the rules about that. We also allow original characters. No fandom OCs, though. We also do not allow non-fiction (real) people. Characters based on real people will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis; generally it's allowed if the character has more fictional basis to work with and is only supplemented with their real history. (An example would be the Shinsengumi characters; the main characterization is taken from Peacemaker Kurogane, with some details taken from their real counterparts.)

In regards to character duplicates, please see the rules and/or talk to a mod before applying.

4. Is there a list of wanted characters I might check to see if I'm interested in any of them?
Nope, sorry. We used to have one, but it required too much upkeep and didn't seem to help much overall, so we got rid of it. Our players are very friendly though, so if you're not sure if they'd want a certain castmate, just ask!

5. What is your application schedule?
Applications are open for one week every other month. Application Interests (aka Reserves) are open two weeks prior to the applications opening, as well as during the cycle itself.

6. How many characters can I reserve/apply for at the same time?
Don't get excessive :| The most we've seen apped in one period is three. Be realistic and not greedy- Luceti's pretty big, so you might get overwhelmed by joining with too many at once.

7. What time period should I app a character from?
You can apply for a character from any timeline within reason- eg. as long as they've been seen in enough material for that particular timeline. For example, say you wanted to apply for Beast from Beauty and the Beast. You could app him from any time period in the movie, but you couldn't app his human form from the time before he met Belle, since he's never shown in that form aside from a few images and a narrative.

8. I have a journal account I've used before/am using somewhere else. Can I use it here?
Yes to the first! For the second, since Luceti is journal-based, you can use the journal if it is being used in a community-based RP. If not, then sorry, we'll have to ask you to make a new one. It just complicates things to have entries locked or labeled to a community; it's caused confusion in the past.

9. I have an application already written from another roleplay. Can I use it/parts of it here?
If you can alter it to match the style of Luceti's application, feel free! As long as you wrote it at some point in time, we don't mind if it's been used before. The only new part of the application we need is the samples, since they must be Luceti-specific.

10. I don't want to participate in an event. Do I have to?
Nope. Most events are optional, and even the plot-related ones that involve the entire village can be handwaved if you really want to. We couldn't possibly force everyone to take part in an event, so it's your choice!

11. I want to run an event! Can I?
Sure! Players run events and plots all the time. Small scale stuff that involves just a handful of people can happen whenever you like, but if you want to run an event that will involve a large number of people, or even the entire village, you must clear it with a head mod first. Usually we'll approve of everything, no problem, but we need details to make sure it doesn't conflict with any events we might have planned.

12. I want to fourth-wall people! Can I?
For those unaware, fourth-walling means that your character recognizes another as fictional and calls them out on it. If you have a character who can do this, we ask that you have a permission post so that characters who don't want you to can specify. If they give you permission, go wild!

13. Can I change the timeline my character comes from?
You can usually change the time period your character comes from, but it depends on what you're changing it to. If you want to canon-update your character, you can, but you must re-apply for the character with the changes detailed in your app; this includes new samples.

We do not allow timeline downgrades, eg. going back in time. If you want to take a character from a previous timeline, you must reset the character and re-apply.

The red is the tunnel system; the brown squares in the desert are the fort where the tunnel opens up and the desert ruins. The small pool in the mountains is the spring system from which the river and lakes are fed. In the center of the village plaza is a fountain and the entrance to the tunnels, marked with blue and black dots.

Everything in gray is beyond the barrier.

Housing

Each house is equipped with at least one bathroom, bedrooms, a kitchen, and enough space for comfortable living. Bedrooms don't necessarily have to be used as bedrooms; it's just stating how many rooms are available. A number of the bedrooms (especially in the larger houses) can fit two people if needed.

Most houses have one bathroom because most old-style country places had one outhouse back in the day. Your characters should be grateful they have any. :|b

As stated above: Since there aren't as many houses as spots in the community apartments, we request that characters please save the houses for groups that want to live together. It's perfectly fine to move from an apartment to a house later on, but there are a lot of characters living alone in houses that could fit many others. Please be courteous to your fellow players.

FAQ

1. Where is my character?
You’re in Luceti, a world that is home to the race called Filial. It’s not a very technologically advanced place, the village is composed of small wooden houses and shops, but most are abandoned. Water comes from the wells dug around the village, and food is supplied in the shops at almost all times. The Malnosso are the ones with technology, but they’re not about to share most of it. They’re just giving you the basic needs to survive… so they can mess with you at their discretion.

2. Why is my character there?
Your character is here because the Malnosso’s machine brought them here. Your character has been turned into one of the Filial, so they are now going to be experimented on. The population of Filial is drastically low, so you are now a part of it.

3. Can my character leave?
Nope. Unless you drop somebody. In that event, it is like the Malnosso decided you weren’t a very good test subject and you were chucked back into your own world. But never fear, if somebody else wants that same character, our bad guys just may change their mind.

4. Can my character die?
Yes. Your character CAN die. But that doesn’t mean they should be doing it OFTEN. Some of the curses that the Malnosso will initiate will be deadly, such as a virus, or a hunter of some sort. Filial die if they lose their wings, so if somebody gets their’s cut off by another character, they will die. Death is something that HAS to be brought up with the mods. Hurting a character does not, but death is a big issue. If your character does die, they will be revived by the Malnosso. Genetically altered Filial can be revived. When they are brought back however, they will lose something important. A memory, an important item, or a power will be lost. And make sure that it is IMPORTANT. We mods have the right to refuse something if we don’t think it’s important enough.

5. Will my character know why they are here?
Not right away. The Malnosso will let them know eventually, and then characters can explain to new arrivals. But at first, everyone is going to be walking around going, “Why the hell am I here, and why do I have wings?”

6. Who is doing this?
The Malnosso. The Filial aren’t exactly sure what they are, but they know they are bad. In actuality, the Malnosso are demonic beings, who are also very technologically advanced. They are scientists, and doing what scientists do, they are running all sorts of tests and weird situations on the Filial to see physical and mental reactions. But your character won’t know that… not for a long time.

7. What can my character expect in the Luceti?
They can expect a lot of weird things. First off, they are waking up with wings, and alone in a virtually abandoned village. As they try to make some sort of lives for themselves, the Malnosso will be throwing experiments at them. Some are harmless, even funny, like gender swaps or weather changes. Others will be more harmful, or even deadly. So watch it.

8. Is my money of any use in Luceti?
No. Any money from any world brought into the village is completely worthless. Money won’t be needed, honestly. Everything will be provided.

9. Will there be events in Luceti?
Yup, every now and then. The events take the form of experiments, or as the Filial refer to them, curses. Everyone will be informed OOCly as to when an event will take place. They will last about a week, and participation is optional. Your character does not always need to be a test subject. However, get them involved sometimes, otherwise, it’s no fun.

10. What is the village like?
Luceti village is small and humble. The houses are wooden shacks, built carefully and to withstand most types of weather. There are, like I mentioned, wells around the village for water. Don’t worry, there’s nothing to contaminate them. The Malnosso have provided bathrooms in the houses, fortunately enough. Shops are located around the village, some with clothes, others with food, and some with some form of entertainment, such as board games and toys.

11. Is there health care?
Not really, the Filial really had no need for clinics. Most of their wounds and illnesses were healed by magic or herbs. Your character will learn to control their new magical abilities slowly, but not right away. If somebody does get sick, or hurt, hopefully there will be a healer character around to help, or somebody with knowledge of plants.

EDIT 05/19/2008 : Some of the characters have taken it upon themselves to open their own clinic! So yes, there is a clinic available.

12. My character has a magical ability. Can s/he use them in Luceti?
Too some extent. By being altered, most canon magic and abilities have been severely dampened. So they will not have unlimited power, even if their magic was all powerful back home, it’s not nearly what it was before. We are leaving it to the character’s muns to keep their characters abilities under control. If you start acting stupid, we will say something.

13. My character has a non-magical ability. Can s/he use them in Luceti?
Yes. All non-magical techniques are allowed, such as the ability to see traps or read minds, as long as they are within reason. The only exceptions are abilities that make them all powerful or indestructible, these abilities won’t work.

14. My character suffers from some sort of disease, disability, or injury. Will s/he still have it in Luceti?
In most instances, yes. As long as it is not immediately life threatening or would cause them constant suffering/keep them from suffering, then their problem will remain. (Examples of things that would be healed/removed before entering Luceti include: fatal wounds received prior to entering or the inability to feel pain.) However, for all impairments that remain, such as blindness or deafness, those are left alone. You can try to find a cure for it, but if it’s pivotal to the character, please take it up with a mod before curing it.

15. Are there monsters in the forest?
Not really. Most of the things in the forest are normal forest creatures like bunnies, deer, and squirrels. Maybe the occasional bear. And your character can now talk to them, as that is a Filial ability. However, sometimes, the Malnosso may throw in monsters as an experiment, so get ready.

16. How do the characters communicate within Luceti?
Ah, this is a big one. Communication is done through journals. The journals are hand written, but they are magical in their design. Therefore, things can be made private, or only be seen by certain people. You just have to write whether you want the entry to be private, filtered, or public. The journal will listen to you on most instances. Sometimes, if the character isn’t paying attention or something, a private entry can be hacked. We leave this up to the mun when they want entries to be hacked. PLEASE remember that everytime you post you DON'T have to be writing in your journal. It can be somebody talking, out and about, or you can do actions posts. It's not strictly written communication. Just please note when you are doing this, so people don't get confused.

17. What is time/day system like?
It is your average schedule; twenty-four hours in a day. There will also be seasons, just like on earth, summer, fall, winter and spring. The amount of light and dark in a day will pertain to the season.

18. Can our characters have jobs?
There really isn’t a need for jobs since food and clothes are provided. But if you want to start some sort of little business, then it is up to you. Think about what might be needed, or fun for your character. They are allowed to have some good times. Also, there is a school for the Filial. It is one of the largest buildings in the village, so it’s hard to miss. If your character wants to attend school, there is a teacher there, and some characters can be hired to fill the roles of teacher s who have passed.

19. What is the journaling system like?
It’s basically like a written live journal. A little picture, like your icon, will show up next to your comments on other’s entries. This way, others can see how your character is reacting to something. They can see a smile, a wave, or a look of disgust. Also, the journal is magic, so it can imprint your voice, if you tell it to. Voice entries will simply have to have ‘Voice post’ written on it. The journal will listen.

20. Is there a list of wanted characters I might check to see if I'm interested in any of them?
Mhm, there will be one! Check it out if you’re interested.

21. What if my character isn’t humanoid in appearance?
Alright, if you want a character that isn’t humanoid… say like… Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog, then we are leaving this up to you. If you want your character to be altered into a human form, go for it. If you want them to remain in their original form, but be given wings, that is fine too. Just please specify on your application which you are doing.

22. Filial magic?
Yeah, the Filial are born with the innate ability to use elemental magic. Your character will thus have this ability when they are altered. However, the magic they have is not very strong, especially at first. As time goes on, they may learn how to use it a little better, but in most instances it will not be needed.

Edit on 5/29/08: People have been asking about the filial magic itself. To be honest, there isn't much behind it, as it was never intended to be that important. But since people wanna know, I can explain. The magic the filial use is conjured using the help of spirits. Elemental spirits inhabit the world of Luceti and pretty much hand out the magic points so to speak.

Spirits talk to you if you talk to them. They may randomly bug someone from time to time for fun, since they're mischevious things and all. To get a spell going, your character calls out for the right spirit, either mentally or vocally, this is completely up to you. So for magic spells, you have to speak to the spirits first. For just plain conversation, they'll sometimes pop up for a chat on their own.

Magic won't jsut happen by talking to the spirits though. You have to practice and get the spirits trust. Unless your character is really in a bind the first time around that they need magic, practice to get spells down is required. If a character, however is freeezing or drowning, a spirit may lend power to save their life, despite magical practice.

23. Reserved characters?
Ah, you are allowed to reserve characters! Reserves will last for one week, unless you contact a mod with a problem and you need to extend. We do need a good reason though; someone else may really want that character.

24. What are the Tags?
The Tags are markings the Malnosso put on the Filial to keep track of the little buggers. All it is is this little barcode on the back of your character’s neck; it’s painless, and relatively easy to overlook, but marks your character as an experimental subject. Attempting to ‘cut it off’ is gross and pointless, since the Malnosso will just catch your character again and tag him or her once more.

25. Can our characters track down the Malnosso?
No sir. Their base is on the other side of the mountain range and heavily protected. There is also a barrier that renders it invisible, so good luck trying to find the damn thing, even if you manage that grueling hike through the wilderness.

Edit (6/14/08) by Egg: Okay, my fault here. The barrier is completely impassible by organic and inorganic things, but some light can filter through. In most cases it is refracted and renders what is beyond as invisible, but occasionally a glimpse of metal roofing far, far off in the distance and nestled hidden behind some trees can be spotted. That's all.

26. What happens when our characters first wake up?
Ah, good question. They are already in a house in the Luceti village when they wake up. The Malnosso have altered them and chosen a home for them, so they have a place to stay. ALSO, your character's original outfits are not on. Since they were being altered, men wake up in a white pair of pants, but with no shirt. Girls have a white dress-like smock with an open back. Their original outfits are given to them, but they'll have to cut holes in the back for their new wings if they wanna wear those clothes.

27. Are there NPCs?
Yes, a few. Some of the surviving Filial are still there. Just like you, they are tagged and unabled to leave. The head teacher at the school, as well as some shop owners and families are still haning around. Feel free to say you met one of them. If any character wants to become a teacher, contact Kris, as she will be acting as the "head teacher".

28. I want my character to have crazy cool mecha wings! Is that allowed.
No. All Filial wings are exactly the same. The size depends on your characters height and weight, but other than that they all look alike. Think of small angel wings. You are however, allowed to choose the color! Only solid colors please, no poka dots or stripes. And the wings aren't a violent shade of any color. They are pale shades.

29. What if my character already has wings/something on their back?
Ah, another good question. If your character had wings or anything of that nature before hand, they are now GONE. They have been replaced by Filial wings.

New 30. What should we do if we want characters to get married/have children, etc.? This is a good question, and one that came up recently. Marriage between characters is completely up to the muns, there is no real mod approval required. However, if you wish to have a large wedding, or something that may as well turn into its own event/affect a lot of characters, you should ask a mod as to when a good date would be to set the wedding. This way, there won't be any major events planned for the day of said marriage. You don't want fire raining from the sky while you're walking down the aisle.

As for children, Luceti will allow children to be born. Please take into account that this isn't a CRACK RP, so there won't be any random/male pregnancies. If two characters (Yes, they have to be male and female... sorry guys, that's just how biology works) decide they REALLY want to have kids together, the muns MUST discuss this with a mod. It is a BIG decision and it can place strain on the game. Please make sure the child will be accounted for and that it won't just be some random fluke. Kids are serious, even in RP. D: But remember, the only reason children can be born is because the Malnosso want new test subjects. They won't be exempt from some of the bad experiments that may go down. Please take this into account before your characters decide to have a child.

31. Posting Specifications

There are three ways you can use the journal system here at luceti.

1. As a regular journal.
Namely, just making a regular text entry. Self-explanatory.

2. As a recording device.
Your journal can record sound, so you can most certainly do an audio post. In order to do this, please put [Voice Post], [Audio Post] or something of that nature in the subject line, to specify. Please keep in mind that these don't need to run for about thirty minutes, so they shouldn't be about four paragraphs long.

3. For quick logs, or Action Posts.
We understand that logs are tedious and difficult to complete, so we're allowing the use of an Action Post. Simply put [Action] in the subject line of the post (or comment, if your comments turn out that way) and write out your character's actions using the following format:

[Adam walked down the road, his hands in his pockets. He glanced as the sky as he shaded his eyes with a hand; bright again today.] Wonder when we'll see some rain.

[Continuing onward down the street, he was stopped by a friend.]

Like so. Using this format will unify the way everything looks on everyone's flists and just makes it that much easier to scan through things without trying to differentiate between different formats. If your Action Post is too lengthy, please use the logs comm. If it runs over three paragraphs, consider that lengthy. Thank you for your cooperation.
